Fred and Hardee's bond was becoming more secure with each passing day, their relationship turning from what might seem like close friends to unmistakable flirting. The banter they shared both inside and outside of classes was enough to make George gag, which he had done, on many occasions, often followed by a slight shove from Fred as he winked at Haidee.
Halloween had come and Haidee was in Charm class, which she shared with Fred and George. It had become a class she would regularly look forward to. Often the two of them would work together, leaving them time to chat when practising their charms and they were about to rehearse the Summoning Charm for the first time.
"Professor, can the Summoning Charm summon people?" Fred asked, not bothering to raise his hand or even wait for Professor Flitwick to finish his sentence.
"Ah, no. Accio can only be used on inanimate objects-" Professor Flitwick had continued answering but Fred had heard what he had needed to hear and turned around to Haidee.
"What a shame. I wouldn't mind being able to summon you every once in a while," Fred smirked causing Haidee to blush deeply. Luckily, the class had started the practical part of the lesson causing the class to erupt in voices of students, meaning they had not heard his remark but rather the laugh that came bounding afterwards due to her reaction.
"Fred!" she gasped, trying to calm herself so that the blush would reduce and by the time the burning had evaporated from her cheeks, she had thought of a witty comeback. "Can't get enough of me?" she asked innocently, moving her attention to the pillow that was across the room.
Without waiting for his response, she flicked her wand and muttered, "Accio," causing the pillow to fly towards her at her first attempt, leaving a pleasantly surprised Fred beside her.
"Brilliant, Miss Deirdre!" Flitwick cheered. "Ten points to Hufflepuff!"
Fred was amazed at her response, for if he hadn't been there to witness it, he would not have believed it himself. Never before had he heard such "profanity," as he liked to call it, come out of her mouth and he smirked throughout the remainder of the class, constantly badgering her on proud he was that she was finally learning his secrets, ever so often stating proudly how he was a bad influence on her.
She left that class, which was the last class of the day, feeling extremely satisfied with herself. She was not one for witty comebacks and she was quite surprised she even had it in her to reply with such a scandalous response. Fred was as equally surprised as she was, however, pleasantly so, as he could not stop smiling at her throughout that whole class.
It was that evening that Fred introduced her to some of his friends. They had met previously as they would often appear and talk to Fred while she was around, but it was then that they were acquainted.
"This is Angelina," Fred introduced, pointing to a tall, dark-skinned girl with gorgeous, wavy black hair that fell over her shoulders. She reached out to shake Haidee's hand with a wide smile and great confidence while Haidee feebly shook her hand.
"And this is Lee." She shook the hand of a boy with dreads and dark-skin, who smiled cheekily down at her with a hint of mischief, similar to Fred and George's, in his eye.
"I've seen you before. Yeah, walking around with the twins," Lee said as he eyed Fred with a smile. "Has he kissed you yet or is he-"
"Oh, shut up you great git," Fred interjected, as he began to chase Lee around the Hall, trying to get him in a headlock. Angelina and George laughed as Lee narrowly missed Fred lunge at him, causing him to stumble over his own feet.
Hardee's cheeks were red with embarrassment at the comment Lee had made, which George could see even from under her curly locks of hair.
"Don't you worry yourself there, Haidee," George said with a laugh. "One day he'll pucker up the courage. Make sure you moisturise your lips from here on out. It bound to happen any day now."
Without another word, they separated as they entered the Great Hall so that they could sit at their houses table. It was Professor McGonagall who had parted Fred from Lee, who he had in a headlock as they sat at the Gryffindor table.
Haidee sat, once again, alone at the end of the Hufflepuff table awaiting the Halloween feast, which soon sprung up onto the table. Platters of food covered the large table, causing a delicious aroma to drift around the room, consuming peoples noses and attention; all except Haidee. Although she munched on some food, most of her attention was engrossed in Fred, who she would often catch looking at her. Of course, he did not know she had caught him as he could not see where her eyes wandered from behind her hair, but he knew he had caught her attention when he had sent an enchanted note towards her. In the shape of a paper aeroplane, the note gently glided towards Haidee and landed in the pudding she was eating.
Looking up from the note warily, she had seen that a few people had caught it flying across the room and landing in her food. She watched as the stranger's eyes wandered from Fred to Haidee before they turned to the person next to them and whispered while pointing. Slightly embarrassed, she opened the note.
"That human summoning charm would come in handy at the moment, wouldn't you think?"
Smiling slightly, she shook her head and wrote just bellow the message before sending it back.
"I'm not so sure. It's quite peaceful here without you."
Fred's mocking gasp was loud enough for Haidee to hear from the Hufflepuff table, causing her to giggle under her breath as he looked at her. George looked over his shoulder to read the note and laughed at his brother once he read it.
She looked back down at her meal, expecting another letter to come playing her way in a sarcastic response but the sound of oncoming footsteps caused her to shoot her head up. Fred had emerged from his seat at the Gryffindor table and walked over to her.
"That's the beauty of a Summoning charm. You wouldn't get a choice," he answered with a smile. "And I wouldn't have to get off my butt to be with you. Scooch."
Though slightly hesitating, Haidee slid over sideways so that Fred had room to sit beside her. He placed himself next to her before leaning over to get some potatoes.
"Are you allowed to sit here?" Haidee asked in a hushed whisper, subtly looking around to ensure none of the teachers were moving their way. However, she did notice a lot of people staring, especially some Gryffindor students from across their table.
"Probably not," he shrugged. "Pass the chicken." Haidee, who was sitting directly in front of the chicken, passed him the plate. She watched as he continued his dinner without a care in the world. Not bothered by the offhand rule-breaking nor the stares and whispers that were directed towards them.
"Do you always aim to get me in trouble?" she asked as he began to eat. He smiled at her as he finished his mouthful of chicken.
"Hey, I haven't gotten you in trouble yet," he defended.
"Yet," Haidee repeated, emphasizing the word.
"Exactly and until then, there's no getting rid of me," he smirked to which Haidee laughed.
"So there's a chance I could be rid of you?" she enthused in a teasing way.
"Not if I find a spell that summons people first."
The two of them spent the rest of the feast talking and teasing and when it was over, Fred and Haidee walked with George, Lee and Angelina back towards their house areas when they stumbled across a distort looking Harry, Ron and Hermione. They were standing before a hanging Ms Noris, Filch's cat, and a message on the wall that read: 'The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Enemies of the Heir, beware."
All students who were heading back to their house areas gathered in groups as they watched the scene unfold. Haidee looked up at Fred, who was beside her. A concern expression settled across his and his brothers face to see their youngest brother, Ron, in the middle of the scene.
As quickly as they had come across the scene, they had departed. Teachers and Head Students huddled their house groups together and lead them in the direction of their house areas. Haidee had no time to speak with Fred before the night ended and they weren't allowed to leave their rooms. It was the next day when they spoke to each other next. It was in their class together, Defence Against the Dark Arts.
They met in class, sitting in their usual seats next to each other. While Haidee was already seated she waited for Fred to met her in class. It was a while before Fred had entered, he had made it just in time for class. It was lucky Professor Lockhart liked to make a dramatic entrance to every class.
He sat down next to her with a single book and a quill, just enough to get by. Haidee looked to him and sighed before moving her textbook between them so that they could share. Fred smiled at the action.
"Thanks, love," Fred smiled cheerfully at the new nickname, however, Haidee chocked on her breath at the title. She quietly, and as politely as she could, splattered and coughed in surprise as Fred stared down at her with a raised eyebrow, his signature smirk still on his lips.
"Did- did you-"
"-Just call you love?" he said, finishing off her sentence as he rubbed her back, chuckling as she tried to gather her thoughts and breath.
"Yeah," she nodded, finally composing herself enough to look up at him.
"Yeah, I did," he said confidently, not taking his hand from her back. "Do you prefer darling? Maybe Cheif? Captian! No, you can call me that," he said. She rolled her eyes playfully and smiled up at him, as even when they were sitting, he towered over her.
"I'm not calling you Captain," she laughed, shaking her head.
"I got some pretty raunchy one too if you wanna hear."
"No, thank you," she replied quickly, pulling the textbook more towards her as she flicked to the chapter they needed to be on. She knew he wasn't going to listen in class anyway, he would just talk to others and interrupt. She had learnt to ignore that, otherwise, she wouldn't hear a thing.
"How's Ron?" she asked, looking up at Fred as she continued to wait for Professor Lockheart to enter. Fred looked down on her, his smile not as bright as before.
"He's okay. Ron wasn't blamed for the petrifying of Ms Noris, but Harry's on the watch list," Fred explained.
"Why would Harry be on the watch list if Ron wasn't. I'm assuming Hermoine isn't either?" she asked. Fred shook his head and Haidee sighed. "Poor Harry."
"He'll be all right. It's Harry. Remember what happened last year with Professor Quirrell?" Fred asked, leaning towards her in a whisper. Haidee nodded softly, almost as if it was a whisper itself.
"How could I forget?" she whispered back.
"That's why everyone's suspicious that it was him," Fred continued.
"By everyone, do you mean the students or teachers?" Haidee enquired.
"Students. It's all I hear in the halls now."
Haidee felt her heart drop at this. She knew all too well how it felt to be the centre of attention for something not particularly pleasant as she looked back down at her work. There was a silence between them for a moment as they all waited for their professor to arrive, his office was even in the classroom. "You don't think it was Harry, do you?"
"No, of course not," he said urgently just as the Professor Lockheart barged in, arms spread as he entered, waiting for an applause. He didn't get one.
For the next few days, the attack on Ms Noris was on everyone's mind and the rumour that Harry was the Heir of Slytherin was sent around the school through waves of whispers. It was quite obvious that he was bothered by the rumours, as anyone would be, as he avoided everyone who wasn't his immediate friends. He no longer waved or greeted Haidee when she passed him in the hall, although she had seen Ron passing him one of the sweets she had given Fred and George.
"Here, take this," Ron said, passing Harry a sweet as she popped a lolly into his mouth. Harry took it warily. He had seen that Fred and George had been giving them out and was suspicious of them.
"What are they?" he asked.
"They're just a lolly that changes the colour and shape of your iris but only for an hour or so. Here, look." Ron turned to look at Harry, his iris' had turned purple and bumpy, like grapes. Harry laughed slightly and looked at the sweet in his hand. It was light pink with some green trailing through it. "Fred and George gave some to me."
"Did they make them?" asked Harry.
"I assume so," Ron shrugged. Harry took the sweet in his mouth and rolled it around his tongue. It was sweet and flavoursome with a refreshing taste of watermelon. Harry turned to Ron quickly to show him his eyes, causing Ron to burst out laughing.
"You have watermelons for eyes!" Ron cheered as he crunched the remainder of his lolly.
"Come on, I wanna see." Together, they ran off towards the boy's bathrooms to examine their new eyes.
