To Woo A Genius
Chapter 8 – Partners

A/N: Hey guys, HAPPY 2021! This is my first time actually trying to write a case for the team. I don't know how effective it was but I did want our wonder boys to do one together. Either way, we'll be back to all the fluffy, smexy goodness in the next chapter. Hope you all have a blessed year and better days ahead. And I'll see you next time. ENJOY! R&R PLZ!

It was painful to part and the residual ache stayed with the two lovers as they drove down separately to the UNSUB's house. All Reid could think about was Derek in the with the rest of SWAT, with large guns and bullet-proof vests and helmets and still not being protected enough. Morgan kept his focus on the kiss they shared, as far as final moments went, it wasn't a bad one. For him. Not Reid. Nothing was going to happen to Spencer, absolutely nothing. He just hoped he could make good on his promise and come home.

They had decided against going in hot since a) they weren't sure they were in the right place and b) if they were in the right place, there are two potential hostages' lives at stake. The various vehicles they were in rolled to a stop at strategically chosen spots near Hass's home. "What are we looking at?" Hotch asked over the radio.

"Thermal reading shows 4 people. 2 upstairs, 2 downstairs."

"Alright everyone get into position," Hotch ordered and they moved out quickly but silently, surrounding the house. On the team leader's signal, SWAT went in first and one man tried to get out the back only to run straight into JJ and Reid and their squad. The blonde levelled him with a straight kick to the diaphragm and he fell heavily to the ground.

"It's not Hass," she reported to her comms while cuffing him.

Reid looked at the house just there was shouting that sounded distinctly Morgan then an unexpected series of loud bangs that had them all ducking.

*TWAG*

"Goddammit," Morgan growled. They had gone in and they only found one guy who bolted to the back. He knew Reid would get that one so he went upstairs and found the girls tied up on the ground. Thankfully they were alive, but from the look of things, heavily drugged. JJ's message came through and he directed the SWAT boys to help get the victims out while he continued to the canvas the house for Hass. It was unlikely but he still ran through entire upper floor but it was clean. 'COME OUT HASS' he yelled and all of sudden the house was full of ear-splitting cracks.

It stunned all of them for a minute and then another person yelled, 'FIRE!' Morgan bolted down the stair and indeed saw a small fire had begun the living room but it was spreading. "Son of bitch threw firecrackers," Rossi shouted. "He went out the back."

"I'M ON IT!" Derek called over the din and made mad dash into the backyard. He spotted Reid helping JJ and fought down the urge to check on his boy, "Which way?" he asked, hoping to communicate more than that.

Ever the genius, Reid nodded imperceptibly turning it into a head jerk, "There."

Derek took off and caught up to Hass running through a park. "STOP FBI! HASS!"

The UNSUB predictably only ran faster but Morgan was gaining ground. Then there was a flash of metal right before Hass shot at Derek, hitting his chest. Morgan tumbled to the ground but before he could do anything another shot rang out and another body fell with a heavy thud. Derek looked up and saw Hass dead on the ground. Spencer slid into his field, kneeling next to Hass, checking his pulse. "Derek are you okay?" he asked shakily.

"Yeah baby boy, got me in the Kevlar," Derek rasped.

"He's gone," Reid pronounced and reported to his comms. "Shots fired at Aubrey Park. The UNSUB is dead, Agent Morgan non-fatally injured." They looked at each other and simultaneously sighed in relief.

"Medical team is on it's way," JJ replied. The ambulance, and the team arrived within minutes, then Derek was sent to the hospital while Spencer recounted what happened to their Unit Chief.

"I took into account the UNSUB's speed and the general area and made a calculated estimate of his avenues of escape," he repeated on the plane home. "Taking into his account his familiarity of the area, the nature of his crimes and experience with law enforcement. I was almost certain he'd use the park as it provided him the greatest amount of control. Now that I had an approximate location, I took one of the cars to head you guys off. I arrived a minute or so before the UNSUB fired. Then he stopped and was about to shoot again so I fired."

"Well your shot has certainly gotten better," Hotch approved. "That was almost 60 metres."

"I was sincerely motivated," Spencer quipped.

"I'd say so," Rossi commented dryly. "Too bad about the cracked rib Morgan, makes it a bit hard to 'express your gratitude'."

"Don't underestimate me Rossi," Morgan winked.

"Good god stop," Emily groaned.

"Seconded," Reid elbowed Derek.

"I should also commend your professionalism in the field – if no where else." Hotch added with a pointed look at Dave. "The higher ups are watching but keep it up and there shouldn't be any problems for the team."

"Hey we'd never mess up the team," Derek assured him. "As far as the FBI is concerned, nothing's changed. Right partner?"

Reid grinned, "Right."
