In Wyndon Stadium, the Gigantamax Drednaw had it's head stuck and was being mocked by Team Rocket, who were in disguise.
Drednaw road angrily at the evil trio and scared them away.
"What's going on here?" The Announcer questioned. "A Gigantamax Drednaw, and it's on a rampage!"
"Let's go!" Ash stated.
"Right!" Goh and Leaf nodded in response.
"Pikachu, this way!" Ash told Pikachu as he ran off.
"You too!" Goh said to Scorbunny.
"Hurry!" Leaf urged.
Pikachu, Scorbunny and Bulbasaur replied and followed their trainers.

Ash, Goh, Leaf, Pikachu, Scorbunny and Bulbasaur arrived outside the stadium to confront Drednaw.
The Gigantamax Bite Pokémon looked down at them.
"Hey there, you gotta calm down!" Ash called out.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu shouted.
"If you keep wrecking the place, there won't be a stadium left!" Goh told Drednaw.
"Scorbun!" Scorbunny added.
"So please stop rampaging!" Leaf called out.
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur said loudly.
Drednaw extended it's head and tried to chomp on the Research Trio and their Pokémon , causing all six of them to run away.
"Guess it's time for a Pokémon battle!" Ash stated.
"Huh?!" Goh and Leaf asked in shock.
"That way, we'll draw it's attention and lead it away from the stadium!" Ash explained.
"Pika pika!" Pikachu said, liking Ash's idea.
"But how in the world are you going to battle a giant Pokémon, Ash? Goh asked.
"We don't have any way of making our Pokémon super huge!" Leaf reminded.
"Beats me." Ash said simply.
"You don't know?!" Goh and Leaf questioned.
"I'll give it a try." Ash said with a confident smile.
Goh and Leaf looked at him in surprise.
"Goh, Leaf, you two stand way back!" Ash told his friends.
"No way!" Goh replied with his arms crossed.
"If you're gonna battle, we'll battle, too!" Leaf stated.
"Scorbun!" Scorbunny said, determined.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur added.
"Okay, it's a Team Battle!" Ash stated.
"Alright!" Goh remarked.
"We're ready when you are!" Leaf said confidently.
Ash and Pikachu ran up to Drednaw.
"Let's do it, Pikachu!" Ash told his partner.
"Pika pika!" Pikachu replied.
"We're in on this too, Scorbunny!" Goh stated.
"Scorbun!" Scorbunny said in determination.
"Get ready, Bulbasaur!" Leaf said, getting her game face on.
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur said, ready to battle.
"Alright, Thunderbolt!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu fired Thunderbolt at Drednaw, but didn't do that much damage.
"Use Double Kick!" Goh ordered Scorbunny.
Scorbunny ran up to Drednaw and kicked it's leg twice, but the Gigantamax Bite Pokémon didn't feel a thing.
"Oh man!" Goh grunted.
Scorbunny growled in annoyance.
"Razor Leaf, go!" Leaf ordered Bulbasaur.
Bulbasaur launched Razor Leaf, but Drednaw didn't flinch one bit.
"No good!" Leaf said nervously.
Drednaw tucked it's head in and got ready to attack.
"Heads up!" Ash warned.
"It's gonna attack again!" Leaf added.
"Okay!" Goh replied.
"Pika pika!" Pikachu stated.
"Scorbun!" Scorbunny glared.
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur said firmly.
Drednaw launched it's head at them.
"Now, use Electroweb!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu launched Electroweb, but Drednaw smashed right through it and advanced towards him and the others.
The Research Trio shouted in fear as the ran away with their Pokémon.
Drednaw pursed them until it's long neck reached it's limit and couldn't stretch anymore.
Ash, Goh and Leaf catches their breath as they sat on a crater letting out some small energy pieces that were flowing into Pikachu.
"What's going on?" Ash asked.
"I think I know, Ash." Goh admitted.
"That red glow can only mean one thing…" leaf started.
Suddenly, Pikachu started getting bigger and bigger.
Ash, Goh and Leaf screamed and ran away as Pikachu was revealed to have Gigantamaxed.
"Pikachu just Dynamaxed!" Goh exclaimed.
"No! He Gigantamaxed!" Leaf corrected. "Look at his tail!"
Ash and Goh saw Pikachu's tail glowing yellow.
"You're right, Leaf!" Ash said in awe.
Pikachu stomped on the ground with his massive foot and caused his friends to fall off their feet.
Drednaw got ready to attack again.
"Over there!" Goh directed.
"Pikachu, use Quick Attack anyway!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu ran over to Drednaw slowly due to his increased size and weight.
Drednaw stomped on the ground and caused an enormous geyser to appear below Pikachu.
Ash, Goh and Leaf gasped in shock as Pikachu crashed into the wall and caused the stadium to shake some more.
Pikachu then recovered and got back to battling Drednaw.
"Hey guys, there are still lots of spectators here!" Leaf reminded her friends.
"Yeah. Pikachu, use Iron Tail!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu complied and grabbed his tail before advancing towards Drednaw.
Leon arrived and looked at Pikachu in shock.
"It's a Gigantamax Pikachu!" Leon exclaimed.
Pikachu then slammed his tail into the ground and a bunch of huge steel spikes rose from the ground and damaged Drednaw.
"Yeah!" Ash cheered. "Way to go!"
Leon looked at Ash and gasped.
"It can't be." He said in disbelief. "That young man! He's in a Dynamax battle without a Dynamax Band!"
Drednaw got up and made a giant rectangle-shaped rock appear from the ground.
"What's that?" Ash asked.
"It has to be Rock type max move!" Goh assumed.
"What should Pikachu do now?" Leaf asked worriedly.
"Ask it to use G-Max Volt Crash!" Leon called out, gaining their attention.
Ash, Goh and Leaf were surprised to see Leon.
"Leon?" Ash gasped.
"Your Pikachu can do it!" Leon told Ash. "G-Max Volt Crash!"
"Okay, I'll try it!" Ash replied.
Drednaw then bashed the rock with it's head and made it fall down slowly.
"Pikachu, G-Max Volt Crash!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu jumped and landed on the ground before releasing a lighting bolt into the sky.
A thundercloud appeared and released a powerful electric blast that destroyed the huge rock and sent Drednaw flying.
Leon smiled in approval.
Drednaw landed on it's back before returning to it's normal form.
"Did it work?" Ash asked silently.
"It sure did." Goh answerd. "G-Max Volt Crash."
"That's a pretty awesome move, alright." Leaf said with a giggle.
"Pika!" Pikachu said in victory before the Dynamax energy left his body, returning him to normal.
"You were awesome, Pikachu!" Ash said proudly.
Pikachu looked at himself before climbing onto Ash's shoulder.
Leon then ran up to the Research Trio.
"Excuse me! You're not hurt?" He asked in concern.
"Nope. Everybody's just fine." Ash assured. "Thanks for helping me back there. I really appreciate it."
"Well, I should be the one thanking you." Leon admitted.
"I'm Ash Ketchum, from Pallet Town." Ash introduced.
"I'm Goh, from Vermilion City." Goh said with a smile.
"And I'm Leaf, also from Pallet Town." Leaf said kindly.
"I'm Leon." Leon introduced himself.
"Yeah, we know." Ash replied.
"Because you're the world's greatest Monarch." Goh added.
"You and your Charizard are really incredible!" Leaf complemented.
"Thanks." Leon said.
"You know what? I'd like to ask a favor." Ash confessed.
"You're not, are you?" Goh asked nervously.
"Would you please have a battle with me?" Ash asked Leon.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu said.
Leon was surprised by what Ash said.
"I figured you'd ask him that." Leaf said with her crossed.
"Ash, come on!" Goh said in embarrassment. "You always say the craziest things!"
Leon looked at Ash in silent.
"You know you can't Gigantamax your Pokémon here!" A Stadium Personal said sternly, walking up to the group. "What do you think you're doing?"
"I didn't mean any harm!" Ash quickly replied.
"Yeah. We were just trying to lure that huge thing away." Goh said.
"It's the truth." Leaf agreed.
"Lure it away?" The Stadium Personal repeated.
"These three are the heroes who saved the entire stadium from ruin." Leon explained. "At least treat them with respect."
"Oh! Please forgive for being so very rude!" The Stadium Personal apologised.
Ash looked at Leon, who gave him a wink, making the Pallet Town boy smile brightly.
(Linebreak)
The next morning, Ash, Goh and Leaf were at a Pokémon Center having some scones.
"The scones in Galar are the best you can get anywhere!" Goh said with a smile.
"I've gotta make some myself!" Leaf said sweetly.
"Scorbun!" Scorbunny remarked.
"Pika pika!" Pikachu said in delight.
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur said with a smile.
Goh and Leaf noticed Ash looking a bit dazed.
"Ash, what's wrong?" Goh asked.
"Didn't you get enough sleep?" Leaf asked.
Ash didn't respond.
"I've never seen you turn down a chance to eat before." Goh admitted.
"Me either." Leaf added.
"Huh?" Ash asked with a wired smile.
Pikachu, Scorbunny and Bulbasaur saw a small squirrel-like Pokémon and a red centipede-like Pokémon crawling onto the table.
They saw Ash's scones and started eating them.
"There's two Pokémon I've never seen!" Goh exclaimed, bringing out his Rotom Phone.
"I wonder what they're called!" Leaf wondered as she brought out her own Rotom Phone.
"Skwovet, the Cheeky Pokémon. A Normal type." Goh's Rotom Phone said. "Skwovet keeps berries in it's cheeks, but if it's stomach is already full, it can temporarily store food in the tufts of fur on it's tail."
"Sizzlipede, the Radiator Pokémon. A Fire and Bug type." Leaf's Rotom Phone said. "Sizzlipede stores flammable gas in it's body and uses it to generate heat. The yellow sections on it's belly get particularly hot."
Goh and Leaf then took out a Pokeball each.
"Pokeball go!" They ordered.
Goh threw his Pokeball at Skwovet and Leaf threw hers at Sizzlipede.
Both Pokeballs caught the two Pokémon inside and shook around before stopping.
"Skwovet has been registered to your Pokédex."
"Sizzlipede had been registered to your Pokédex."
"Another Pokémon for both of us!" Goh remarked.
"And this time, they're from Galar!" Leaf said cheerfully.
They both deadpanned when they saw Ash still staring into space.
"Ash, what's bothering you?" Goh asked with his arms crossed.
"If you wanna talk about it, we're here." Leaf offered.
Ash snapped out of his daze and looked at his friends.
"Oh yeah! I was just thinking about Leon's awesome battle yesterday, that's all." Ash explained.
"Now why am I not surprised?" Goh asked himself with a sigh.
"Huh?" Ash asked in confusion. "What's wrong with that?"
"If there were 25 hours in a day, you'd have one more hour to think about Pokémon battles." Goh replied.
"Come on!" Ash complained. "If I don't get ten hours of sleep, I start acting all goofy."
"Yeah, we just found out about that." Leaf said, reminded Ash of his previous state.
"So, take away 10 from 24 and you get…" Ash continued.
"Now, let's not get stuck in the weeds." Goh interrupted. "See, this is about how you want to battle Leon, right?"
Ash nodded in response.
"Bingo." He said.
"I get it. I get it." Goh said, looking at his Rotom Phone. "Alright. You know, trying to get a battle with Leon is not as easy as you think."
"Huh?" Ash asked.
"Just to get into the get into the World Coronation Series in the first place, you enter online and build up your ranking by having lots of Pokémon battles." Leaf explained.
"My ranking?" Ash repeated.
"Your position compared to others." Goh told him. "And based on battling records and statistics, the eight highest-ranked trainers then form what's called the Master Class. At the end of the class match season, there's a tournament where trainers in the Master Class battle each other, and the winner becomes Monarch."
"So does that mean if I submit my entry, then I can battle Leon?" Ash asked with a smile.
"Ash, it doesn't work that way." Leaf said.
"How come?" Ash asked in response.
"Based on whether an entrant wins or loses in Pokémon battles and looking at the content of those battles, entrants get separated into four distinct classes." Goh explained. "All recently entered trainers are put into Normal Class. Then they battle other Normal Class trainers and lift up their scores. And those ranked between 100 and 999 are Great Class. And above that, those ranked between 9 and 99 are Ultra Class."
"Uh, what about Leon?" Ash asked.
"He's in Master Class, of course!" Leaf answerd. "Not only that, but he's number 1!"
"So Ash, for you to battle him, you have to start climbing the ranks to get up to Master Class." Goh told the Pallet Town boy.
Ash sweat dropped and was having trouble following through all of this.
"Sorry if that was a bit too much." Goh apologised.
Ash then stood up and smiled.
"Well, all I've gotta do is win battles, right?" Ash asked confidently.
Goh laughed sheepishly, while Leaf face palmed.
"Got it!" Ash stated before he started eating his scones super fast.
Unfortunately, Ash ended up having trouble swallowing them and started pounding his stomach.
"Drink this." A familiar voice said, giving Ash a glass of water.
Ash took the glass and drank all the water in it, helping him swallow his food.
"I'm fine." Ash said kindly. "Thank you."
Ash opened his eyes and saw that the person who gave him his drink was Leon, causing his to gasp in shock.
"Leon?!" Ash exclaimed.
"No way!" Leaf gasped in shock.
"What are you doing here?" Goh asked.
"You said you wanted to battle me, right?" Leon asked Ash.
Ash immediately nodded with shiny eyes.
"But Leaf and I just finished explaining to him that it wouldn't be so easy!" Goh pointed out.
"Being the world's greatest Monarch, I thought it would be nice to help a young man realise his dream." Leon admitted with a smile.
Ash had tears in his eyes and smiled gratefully after hearing that.
"That'd be so awesome!" Ash said loudly.
"Well, if it's gonna happen today, I can't wait to see how it goes!" Leaf remarked.
"Huh?!" Goh asked in absolute shock.

Later, Ash, Goh and Leaf arrived at Wyndon Stadium with Leon.
Ash and Leon faced each other as the Referee floated in beside them on his Aegislash.
"Since it's a request from Leon, I'd be honoured to referee this match." The Referee said.
"Thanks a lot." Ash replied.
"Ash, take this." Leon said as he tossed a Dynamax Band to Ash. "Here."
Ash grabbed the Dynamax Band and looked at it.
"It's called a Dynamax Band." Leon explained. "I noticed while you were battling yesterday that you weren't wearing one on your wrist. But the Dynamax Band gives you complete control over Dynamaxing."
"It does?" Ash asked.
"Yeah." Leon answered. "Once your Pokémon is Dynamaxed, it's move names change, too."
"I'll take it from here." Goh volunteered. "The Normal type Max Move is called Max Strike. The Steel type Max move is Max Steelspike. And the Electric type Max move is Max Lightning."
"Wow, those sound cool!" Leaf said in amazement.
"So it's Max Strike, Max Steelspike and Max Lightning?" Ash asked with a smile.
"That being said, your Pikachu is able to Gigantamax." Leon said.
"Pika?" Pikachu asked in confusion.
"Gigantamax?" Ash repeated.
"That means it can use an Electric type move called G-Max Volt Crash." Leon replied.
"G-Max Volt Crash." Ash said quietly. "We used that move!"
"When you prepare to Dynamax, you send your Pokémon back into it's Pokeball." Leon explained. "Then you throw the Pokeball while channeling the power in your Dynamax Band!"
"Pikachu doesn't really like to go into his Pokeball." Ash admitted. "We'll come up with something, right?"
"Pika pika!" Pikachu said cheerfully.
"Thank you for the loan." Ash said kindly. "Really."
Leon nodded to him in response.
Ash slipped his Dynamax Band onto his wrist and looked at it in amazement.
"This thing is so cool!" Ash remarked.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu agreed.
Ash and Leon then took their positions, while Goh and Leaf watched from behind the Pallet Town boy.
"Now contestants, your Pokémon!" The Referee ordered.
"I choose you!" Ash said to Pikachu. "Let's go, Pikachu!"
"Alright Charizard, come out!" Leon stated as he threw his Pokeball.
Pikachu and Charizard appeared on the battlefield.
"Awesome!" Ash remarked. "Both Pikachu and I really want to battle your Charizard! Great!"
"Pika pika!" Pikachu said with a confident smile.
"It's obvious you understand your Pokémon partner, which makes me happy." Leon said kindly.
Ash chuckled in response.
"Give it your all, Ash!" Leaf cheered.
"In a matchup of types, Pikachu has the advantage!" Goh called out.
"Perhaps. But when it comes to Charizard and Monarch Leon, we never lose a battle!" Leon stated.
Charizard roared in agreement.
"That's how we want it!" Ash replied.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu agreed.
"Ready, battle begin!" The Referee stated.
"Pikachu, use Quick Attack!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu charged at Charizard with lightning fast speed.
"Charizard, counter it with Thunder Punch!" Leon ordered.
Charizard used Thunder Punch and collided it with Pikachu's attack.
The two Pokémon struggled before Charizard sent Pikachu flying.
"Pikachu!" Leaf said worriedly.
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur gasped.
"Scorbun!" Scorbunny exclaimed.
"Charizard's power is amazing!" Goh said in shock.
Pikachu landed on the field.
"Pikachu, use Iron Tail!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu got ready to use Iron Tail.
"One more time! Use Thunder Punch!" Leon ordered.
Charizard made another collision with Thunder Punch and before pushing Pikachu away.
Ash gasped in shock as Pikachu landed on all fours.
"Follow it up!" Leon ordered.
Charizard used Thunder Punch a third time.
"Electroweb, go!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu launched Electroweb.
"Punch right through it!" Leon ordered.
Charizard smashed the Electroweb with Thunder Punch, much to Pikachu's surprise.
Ash gritted his teeth.
"Now use Air Slash!" Leon ordered.
Charizard fired Air Slash at Pikachu and scored a direct hit.
"Pikachu, no!" Ash shouted.
Pikachu jumped out of the smoke and was okay.
"Pika!" Pikachu said, smirking at his trainer.
"Alright, use Thunderbolt!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu prepared to use Thunderbolt.
"Now use Flamethrower!" Leon ordered.
Charizard used Flamethrower and Pikachu used Thunderbolt.
Both moves collided with each other, but Charizard's Flamethrower managed to get through and sent Pikachu skidding back.
"Scorbun!" Scorbunny said worriedly.
"Even Pikachu's Thunderbolt can't seem to get past Charizard's Flamethrower move!" Goh exclaimed.
"Come on, Ash and Pikachu!" Leaf encouraged loudly. "Stay strong!"
"Bulba, Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur called out.
"Do it!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu continued to fight back before Ash's Dynamax Band suddenly let out some Dynamax energy and made Pikachu grow bigger.
Ash smiled brightly as Pikachu finished Gigantamaxing and overpowered Charizard's Flamethrower, dealing some super effective damage.
The Flame Pokémon fell down to the ground.
"Charizard?" Leon asked in shock.
Charizard collapsed onto the battlefield and shook it's head before giving Leon and reassuring growl.
"We did it without a Pokeball!" Ash remarked.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu said loudly, glaring down at Leon and Charizard.
"Amazing. I'm glad we're here!" Leon said happily. "Now Charizard, return!"
Leon returned Charizard to it's Pokeball.
"This is what I call a real champion time!" Leon said as his Dynamax Band expanded Charizard's Pokeball.
Ash, Goh and Leaf knew what was about to happen next.
"Gigantamax!" Leon stated as he tossed the Pokeball at the battlefield.
Charizard appeared in it's Gigantamax form and let out a huge roar.
"Alright Pikachu, it's time!" Ash stated. "Use Max Strike!"
Pikachu stomped on the ground and yellow energy made it's way towards Charizard.
The Gigantamax Flame Pokémon avoided the attack.
"Now, Max Airstream!" Leon ordered.
Charizard blasted Pikachu with Max Airstream.
Pikachu struggled to stay on his feet.
"Don't let it get to you!" Ash encouraged.
The wind was too strong and Pikachu fell backwards.
"Quick Pikachu, Max Steelspike!" Ash ordered.
Pikachu got back up so he could use the Steel type max move.
"Charizard, use Max Lightning!" Leon ordered.
Charizard acted quickly and managed to hit Pikachu with Max Lightning before he could use Max Steelspike.
Ash, Goh and Leaf gasped in shock as Pikachu stumbled back.
"It's time!" Ash announced. "G-Max Volt Crash!"
Pikachu fired a bolt of lightning into the sky, getting ready to use G-Max Volt Crash.
"Now, let's enjoy the finale!" Leon stated. "G-Max Wildfire!"
Both Pikachu and Charizard fired their G-Max attacks at each other and they both made contact.
Leaf looked on in awe.
"It's a draw." Goh whispered.
"It's not over yet!" Leon said with a smile.
When the G-Max Volt Crash stopped, Charizard was standing strong.
Pikachu on the other hand, was hit by the flaming Phoenix multiple times while surrounded by fire.
"Pikachu!" Ash exclaimed.
Pikachu then returned to his normal form and had swirls on his eyes.
"Pikachu!" Ash called out, running to his partner.
"Pikachu is unable to battle!" The Referee announced. "Which means the winner is Leon!"
Leon looked down while smiling.
"It's a shame it's over, Charizard." He said simply.
Charizard growled in response as Leon returned his ace partner to it's Pokeball.
Ash held Pikachu in his arms.
"Pikachu, you were awesome out there." Ash complemented.
"Pika." Pikachu said with a small smile.
Leon walked up to them.
"Here Ash, give this to Pikachu." Leon instructed, handing Ash an Oran Berry.
"Thank you very much." Ash replied as he accepted the Berry and fed it to Pikachu. "Leon, I'm really happy that you went all out on me.
"Battles are no fun when you're not going all out." Leon said. "It's simple, right?"
"Thanks for letting me use this." Ash said kindly, handing his Dynamax Band to Leon.
"You hang on to it." Leon told him.
"Wait, are you sure?" Ash asked.
"Of course." Leon replied. "You're a trainer who still has some rough edges. I like that type."
Ash smiled brightly after hearing that.
"But to beat me, you've got a bit of work to do." Leon admitted. "I want you to break out!"
"Huh? Break out?" Ash repeated, confused.
"It means he really wants you to let 'er rip!" Goh told him as he and Leaf walked up to them.
"So, you need to start building up your ranks in the World Coronation Series if you wanna battle him again!" Leaf explained.
"See ya." Leon said as he walked off.
"Hey Leon, let me have a battle with you in the future, 'Kay?" Ash asked him.
"The next time will be in the tournament, Ash." Leon answered.
"Okay!" Ash nodded.
(Linebreak)
The Research Trio and their Pokémon left the stadium.
"I've decided, Goh and Leaf." Ash told his friends.
"Hm?" Goh and Leaf asked.
"See, I'm going to enter this competition and battle Leon again!" Ash stated. "And I'm gonna win it, too! That'll be my next step to become a Pokémon Master!"
"Perfect." Goh said with a smile. "That plan has Ash written all over it."
"You'll do absolutely great in the competition." Leaf said sweetly.
"Buddy, what do you say we get stronger together?" Ash asked Pikachu.
"Pika pika!" Pikachu replied.
Ash, Goh and Leaf looked back at the stadium as the Pallet Town boy imagined himself battling Leon again.
Now that Ash has a new goal in mind, what kind of new adventures will he, Goh and Leaf have now?
