AMY´S CREEK - S01E10 - THE WEEKEND GETAWAY

Disclaimer: I don´t own Dawson´s Creek or the characters from it.

1. Ext. Gas Station. Day.

Joey comes out from the gas station store, carrying a bag of things, she´s bought in there. Pacey is putting gas on his car. Joey smiles at him.

Pacey (voice over):

I´ve known her since we were five and that smile can still make me melt.

Joey:

They ran out of Mars bars, so I got you a Snickers.

Joey gets in the car.

Pacey (voice over):

She knows what my second favorite candy bar is, just like I know her favorite and second favorite. There´s pretty much nothing, we don´t know about each other. Except for a few personal things, none of us want to know. I don´t need to know about her first period, as little as she needs to hear about my first wet dream. But we do about pretty much everything else. That could be why, we can´t start over. It always ends up a continuation.

He finishes gassing up the car and hangs the nozzle in it´s holder. He gets in the car.

2. Int. Car. Day.

They looks excited for the weekend.

Joey:

How long, until we get there?

Pacey:

An hour or so.

Joey:

Which means, that we could be in bed by half past 2.

He smiles at her.

Pacey:

Is that the only thing your perverted mind can think of?

Joey:

It´s been a while. A LONG while!

Pacey:

I´ll have us there in 45 minutes!

He starts up the car. She smiles to herself in anticipation.

OPENING CREDITS

3. Ext. Parking Lot. Day.

Joey and Pacey are looking around and it´s very picturesque, in the middle of nature and the motel looks very nice too and fits into the surroundings.

Pacey:

How could this get two stars on Trip Advisor?

Joey:

I know. It´s beautiful here.

Pacey:

It looks like a bargain.

Joey:

It´s strange, that there weren´t more cars in the parking lot.

Pacey:

We might have found a hidden gem.

Joey:

I can´t wait to get you naked!

Pacey:

Easy there, Potter. One thing at a time.

They head into the motel.

4. Int. Woodside Motel. Day.

Pacey and Joey come in and another couple hurries out past them. A 22 year old girl named Haley is busy on her phone and chewing gum behind the counter and doesn´t look up.

Haley:

Come again!

She doesn´t even notice Joey and Pacey come up to the counter.

Pacey:

Miss?

Haley:

Chill! Give me a second to finish this level.

She makes an annoyed face.

Haley:

I died.

She puts her phone away.

Haley:

Welcome to The Woodside Motel, also known as my personal hell!

Joey and Pacey don´t really know how to react.

Joey:

Ehm ... Sorry?

Haley:

It isn´t you fault, that my dad decided to move us into the middle of nowhere, is it?

Pacey:

You don´t like living here?

Haley:

It the worst! Nothing happens!

Joey:

It´s beautiful though, with the nature and everything.

Haley:

Sorry, I didn´t mean to burden you with my problems. I´m just having another bad day. You probably want your key.

Pacey:

The name´s Witter.

Haley looks a list over.

Haley:

You´re in room 73.

She gets the key.

Haley:

The elevator´s been busted for days, so you´ll have to make due with my brother. JAMES!

They have to clear out their ears to get their hearing back.

Haley:

He doesn´t hear that well. Too many concerts, where he stood next to the speakers. We kept telling him, that it would make him deaf, but he wouldn´t listen. JAMES!

Joey and Pacey are amazed at how loud she can be. A long haired 28 year old guy in flip flops, a pair of sweats and a very old looking t-shirt comes rushing.

James:

Are you trying to make me completely deaf?

Haley:

You have work.

James:

Can´t you do it?

Haley:

It´s your job!

James:

Urgh!

Pacey:

I can take one of them.

James:

Thanks. You´re nice, UNLIKE SOMEONE ELSE!

Haley:

MAYBE I WOULD BE, IF YOU WEREN´T SUCH A JERK ALL THE TIME!

James tries to settle down. Pacey and Joey make motion to leave.

James:

I´m not gonna let you pull into it again, Haley. Not in front of the customers. Follow me, please.

They head for the stairs.

Haley:

IT´S NO WONDER, THAT YOUR WIFE KICKED YOU OUT! I WOULD TOO!

He rolls his eyes. Joey and Pacey hurry up the stairs after him.

5. Int. Hotel Room. Day.

James is showing them their room.

James:

Our cleaning staff quit on us, so I can´t guarantee the same standards, we usually have.

Joey:

It´s okay.

James:

My parents are too busy to do it, so it falls to me or Haley. We both gave up months ago.

Pacey:

When is dinner?

James:

From five to seven. Do yourselves a favor and stick to the number 3 or number 5.

Joey:

Thanks for the recommendation, I guess.

James:

The other items on his menu are, let´s just say, of varying quality. Enjoy your stay.

He leaves them. They can´t help laughing.

Pacey:

What did we land in the middle of?

Joey:

A sibling rivalry, by the sound of it!

Pacey:

Can you imagine, what would have happened, if my dad had forced me and Doug to spend every day together, with no other friends to pre-occupy us?

Joey:

Me and Betsy would have been like those two within a day!

Pacey:

Their dad probably meant well and decided, that he would unite his family under one roof. It just backfired horribly on him.

Joey:

This place, sure has it´s quirks!

Pacey:

Sorry, Jo, but after that ...

Joey:

That spectacle put me off it too. For now.

They kiss.

Pacey:

Do you want to check out the surroundings?

Joey:

We might as well, while we´re here.

He takes her hand and they leave the room.

6. Ext. Forest. Day.

Pacey and Joey come walking through the forest.

Pacey (voice over):

Maine in the fall is as beautiful, as it comes. The birds, the tress, the ...

They see Haley and her mother Virginia throwing axes at a tree.

Pacey (voice over):

Strangest mother/daughter bonding activity, I´ve seen in a long time!

Haley throws one and we hear it it the tree. She high fives her mother.

Virginia:

Right between the eyes! That´s my girl!

Joey and Pacey try to turn around, but are noticed.

Haley:

It´s the Witters. Hey, Witters!

Joey and Pacey reluctantly walk over to them.

Virginia:

I´m Haley´s mother Virginia. Welcome.

Joey:

I´m Joey and this is Pacey.

Haley:

How cute. Are you any good at axe throwing?

Pacey:

It´s not a skill, I´ve done much work on.

Virginia:

Neither had we, until we moved out here.

Joey and Pacey see, that what they were throwing at was a printed out picture of Donald Trump.

Virginia:

The one thing we can all agree on, is that we hate Trump.

She throws an axe, that lands right in the forehead of the picture.

Haley:

Score! Take that, for taking my future away from me!

Virginia:

So now it´s his fault, that you have a record?

Haley:

Would it hurt them, to be just a little bit forgiving? It´s not like anyone got hurt!

Haley offers hand axe to Joey.

Haley:

Do you want to try it? It feels so good, when you get him right in face!

Joey:

I´ll pass. Have a nice day.

Virginia:

Don´t venture too far into the woods. I´m sure, I don´t have to tell you, that It can get dark quickly this time of year, You don´t want to be lost out there, when it does.

Haley:

There was this dumbass couple from New York, who wouldn´t listen and got caught out there.

Joey:

We´ll make sure, that we´re back in time.

Haley:

You DON´T want to know, what did to survive! Anyway, have a lovely hike!

Virginia:

If you head down the road and keep left, you reach the cutest little waterfall!

Pacey:

We´ll check it out.

Pacey and Joey hurry down the path.

Joey:

At least, they agree on one thing!

Pacey:

Keep that in mind.

Joey:

Why?

Pacey:

In case, they call us as prime witnesses at the regicide trial!

Joey:

Lee Harvey Oswald had nothing on those two!

They head toward the waterfall, that as Virginia said, is very cute..

7. Int. Restaurant. Evening.

Joey and Pacey are handed a pair of menu´s by Haley, who´s also a waitress there. There´s only about 10 other people in the restaurant.

Joey:

You have a lot of jobs here!

Haley:

Someone has to do them. Did James tell you, which ones to stay away from?

Joey:

He did, but I forgot.

Haley:

The woodhouse burger is decent and the fries are home made. The chicken Kiev is pretty good too.

Joey:

Two burgers.

Haley:

Good call.

An elderly man tries to catch Haley´s attention.

Man:

We´ve waited for over an hour.

Haley looks him in the eyes with complete indifference.

Haley:

It´ll get here! I don´t come to your house and bother you for food, do I?

Haley heads into the kitchen. The customer looks mad. Joey can´t help smiling.

Joey:

If you had any idea, how many times I wanted to say that to a customer!

Pacey:

I felt satisfied, just looking at it! Imagine, if young you and her had been friends.

Joey:

We would have hit a sarcasm overload!

Haley comes back to their table with a bottle of wine.

Haley:

On the house.

Pacey:

Thanks.

Haley:

It´s an apology for having to watch me and James fighting. Plus, you´re the first couple to come here in months, who aren´t stuck up city people or boring old farts.

The wife of the man from before looks insulted.

Woman:

I heard that!

Haley turns to address her.

Haley:

Congratulations. You´re not as deaf as my brother!

John (off screen):

WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU FORGOT TO BUY IT?

Virginia (off screen):

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY IT? IT´S YOUR JOB!

John (off screen):

WHAT IS YOUR JOB? BEING USELESS AND A BITCH? THAT´S ALL YOU´VE BEEN, SINCE WE BOUGHT THIS PLACE!

Virginia:

SINCE YOU BOUGHT IT. I NEVER WANTED TO!

Virginia comes in from the kitchen and walks through the dining room, sobbing. It draws the attention of everyone and Haley looks embarrassed. She whispers to Joey and Pacey.

Haley:

This dinner comes with a show and it´s the same one every night.

She heads back in the kitchen.

Joey:

It´s sad, that her and her brother have hear that all the time.

Pacey:

Poor girl. Do I dare go out there and ask her to open the bottle?

Joey grabs the bottle.

Joey:

Consider it done.

She gets up and heads out into the kitchen.

Pacey (voice over):

At least, one thing can´t go wrong.

Joey comes back with the bottle opened.

8. Int. Motel Room. Evening.

Joey and Pacey are lying on the bed after they´ve had sex. She´s snuggled up in his arms and they both look very satisfied.

Joey:

I needed that!

Pacey:

Me too. I couldn´t stop thinking about Haley and James, though.

Joey:

Not in a sexual way, I hope.

Pacey:

Of course not, but can you imagine, what their life is like?

Joey:

She in her early 20´s and her best friend is her mom! That says it all!

Pacey:

I would have lost my mind, if I were her. My home life wasn´t all roses either , but at least, I had an escape in my friends. How are her and James gonna make friends out here? There aren´t anyone!

Joey:

Does she remind you of someone? It hits home with me too.

Pacey:

Promise me, that we´ll never turn into John and Virginia.

Joey:

We´ll never be like them and you know why?

Pacey:

Why?

Joey:

We´re both normal!

They smile at each other and kiss.

9. Int. Hotel Room. Night.

Pacey comes out of the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Haley (off screen):

They´re gonna end up getting divorced, if we don´t do something.

James (off screen):

What am I supposed to do about it?

Haley (voice over):

We can´t just do nothing.

James (voice over):

Grow up! We´re both stuck here, until they go broke. The way things are going, that won´t be long!

He hears a door slamming and the sound of Haley crying outside the door. He puts on his pants and leaves the room as quietly as he can.

10. Int. Hallway. Night.

Haley is sitting on the floor and hugging her knees, while she´s crying. She tries to hide it from Pacey, who sits down next to her.

Pacey:

It´s okay to cry, when you need to.

Haley:

Did you hear that?

Pacey nods.

Pacey:

I´m a good listener, if you want to talk.

Haley:

What else is there to say? My parents sold everything they had, so they could buy this place. Half the reason, was so me and my brother could have a place to work, but we haven´t been paid in months and the motel is losing money every day. We´re stuck here with no money and no place to go, waiting for the bitter end. Everyone´s on edge all the time and none of us get along anymore. My brother and I have always been close and look at us now. Prison wasn´t as bad as this. At least in there, I knew, when I was getting out.

Pacey:

Joey and me are both experts, when it comes to messed up families. It can suck the life out of you, can´t it?

Haley:

If I had anywhere else to go, I would. With no money and a criminal record, it´s close to impossible. I need money to find a place, but none of the few, who would hire me, will if I don´t have an address.

Pacey:

If you don´t mind me asking, what did you go to jail for?

Haley:

I got ten months on a DWI. They let me out after six, for good behavior.

Pacey:

What was your alcohol level? 10!

Haley:

It wasn´t that bad, but there was also the evading capture ... in a stolen police car.

Pacey can´t help grinning.

Pacey:

You went down in style!

Haley:

I fell in with the worst crowd, that would have me and I did some dumb things, when I younger. I´ve grown up a lot since then, but society won´t forgive me for it. I´m 22 and doomed to be a loser for the rest of my life, because I got drunk that night. It wasn´t my idea to steal it. I only went along with it, because I was drunk and my so-called friends said, that I was too chicken to do it. How was I supposed to know, that it would cost me everything?

Pacey:

It must have been fun, though.

Haley:

For the three minutes, that it lasted, it was.

Haley wipes her eyes and composes herself.

Haley:

Do you want to talk some more? I have access to the bar.

Pacey:

You look like, you need it.

He stands up and gives her a hand to help her up.

11. Int. Hotel Room. Morning.

Joey wakes up and is surprised, that Pacey isn´t lying next to her.

12. Int. Hallway. Morning.

Joey has gotten dressed and locks their door. Virginia comes over to her.

Virginia:

I don´t know how to thank you!

Joey looks surprised.

13. Int. Dining Room. Morning.

The mood is actually good in the dining room and the guest are enjoying what looks like a very delicious breakfast.

Virginia:

Whatever you do, don´t let that man of yours, get away from you. He is a God sent!

Joey:

What did he do now?

She is led into the kitchen by Virginia.

14. Int. Kitchen. Morning.

James and Haley are working as a team cooking breakfast and they´re actually enjoying themselves. Pacey comes out from the walk in cooler with John.

Pacey:

For what we talked about alone, that´s 60 grand, you´ll save each year.

John:

Where were you, when we opened this place?

Haley:

Pacey, can you check, if I´ve done it right?

He looks over what she´s cooking.

Pacey:

Mmm! That smells delicious.

John:

Great job, Sweetheart.

Haley:

Thanks.

Haley looks proud of herself.

James:

French toast is ready to go.

Joey smiles to herself. Virginia looks thrilled.

Virginia:

We haven´t felt united like this as a family in months. Isn´t it great?

Pacey finally notices Joey.

Pacey:

Good morning, beautiful.

Joey:

I should have known, that you couldn´t stay out of the kitchen.

They kiss.

John:

It´s nice to meet you, Joey. This guy is better than Ramsay.

Pacey:

John, we all make mistakes when we first open, no matter how much we think, we know. You have a great place here and if you can make the guests can feel the love in here right now, there´s no way, they wouldn´t want to come back.

James:

Can it be saved?

Pacey:

If you keep working as a family and stop arguing. If you revert to your old ways, it can go downhill, just as fast again.

Haley:

Don´t worry, Pacey. That won´t happen.

James puts his arm around Haley and they smile at each other.

James:

We´re all tired of the fighting. It´s time, we got back to feeling like a family again.

Haley:

Without the yelling and bickering.

Joey:

Are you too busy to join me for breakfast?

Virginia:

We can take it from here.

Pacey:

I´ll look over those books with you, after we´ve had breakfast. There´s sure to be other places, you should be spending and others, where you´re spending too much.

John:

Relax and enjoy your breakfast. What you´ve done for us already, is above and beyond.

Joey takes his hand and begins to lead him out.

Pacey:

Watch out with those Hash Browns, Haley! They´re close to being done.

Haley:

I will!

Joey smiles to herself.

15. Ext. Parking Lot. Day.

Joey and Pacey are saying goodbye to the family.

Pacey (voice over):

It ended up a vey different weekend, than we imagined. Still one, we won´t ever forget.

Virginia:

Come back any time, you hear?

Joey:

We will, when we get the chance.

Haley:

Joey, is it okay, if I give Pacey a hug? I think, he deserves it.

Joey:

Since you asked nicely.

Haley gives Pacey a big hug.

Pacey:

Stay in the kitchen and out of the dining room, Haley. Customer care, just isn´t your thing.

Haley:

When you come back, I´ll cook you something, that´ll knock your socks off.

They break the hug and Pacey shakes hands with James.

James:

If she doesn´t, then I will.

Pacey:

Getting along with your siblings isn´t always easy. It never helps, if you turn to yelling.

John:

If they start up again, I´ll sell the place.

Haley/James/Virginia:

You can´t!

Joey and Pacey grin.

Joey:

It´s been a blast, but we should get going. It´s a long drive to Capeside.

Pacey:

Take care, everyone.

The family waves goodbye to them, as they get in their car.

16. Int. Car. Day.

Joey is in the driver´s seat this time.

Joey:

I should have known, that you couldn´t help yourself. If there´s a girl in trouble, you still have to help her.

Pacey:

I don´t!

Joey:

Hello! Let´s look at your girl history. Miss Chambers - obvious creepy issues. Andie - mental problems. Me - daughter of a jailbird. There was that restaurant manager girl, you dated for a short while.

Pacey:

Oh, yes. The one who tried to kill herself, with me in the car with her! Thanks for reminding me. It´s SUCH a cherished memory!

Joey:

She fit the profile! Next there was Audrey ...

Pacey:

Who was just being Audrey. Okay, so you might have a point.

Joey:

It´s a big part of why I love you. You can´t stop yourself from caring about those around you, Pace!

Pacey (voice over):

I suppose, she could be right.

He smiles to himself, as she starts the car.
