It was later that night when Jay heard the faint buzzing of his phone, he went over to the jacket her wore that day and took out his mobile from the pocket. An unknown number displayed on the phone, the detective's stomach dropped, and he answered it in a second.

"Hello?" ALl that Jay could hear on the other end of the phone was gut-wrenching sobs, with that Jay immediately put on his shoes, grabbed his jackets and pocketed his badge and gun. "Erin! Erin? Is that you, are you alright? Come one baby speak to me!" Jay pleaded, not realising through his adrenaline that he had let the pet name slip.

"Jay! Help please, he drunk. He's drunk! He's really, really drunk and mad!" Erin cried, at this point they didn't really know what she was saying. Through her tears and fast breathing, Erin rambled all that she could. "He's got the knife, Jay im scared!"

Already in his car, Jay Halstead had already messaged his team with the address given to him by Mouse, informing them on what was happen ing. "Alright, alright. Erin, you need to listen to me, I know you're scared but I need you to hide. Grab anything for defence and hide. Keep quiet but stay on the phone, you don't need to talk. Im on my way!" Jay could hear the rustling on Erin's side, as well as her continued crying.

What felt like hours, when it was actually minutes due to his recklessness and police lights. Jay pulled up to the small rundown house that was home to Erin Lindsey. The detective noticed the rest of his unit readying up, he grabbed his phone and only then noticed that the phone call had ended. Cursing to himself he followed his team raid the house, quickly apprehending and steaming Charlie. He had been raving and ranting, clearly intoxicated, swinging a knife screaming for Erin.

Taking two steps at a time, Jay reached the main bedroom in seconds, he threw open the crooked dorr and heard the small sniffles in the oak wardrobe across the room. Knowing how scared Erin must be he decided it was best if he made himself know.

"Erin? It's ok, its Jay. My team have Charlie he won't hurt you, he can't hurt you." He slowly approached the closet and opened that door. The detective was met with an Erin curled p n the corner, with a lamp clutched in her shaking hands. Jay noticed the split lip and large cut above her eyebrow, as well as the darling bruise running along her neck.

"Hey Erin, you can come out now, you're safe it's just me", Jay whispered. Jay managed to grasp her chin and lift her head towards him. He could hear how heavy Erin was breathing and could see how unfocused her eye seem to be. As if she wasn't here or didn't hear him at all. With his past in the rangers, Jay had experience with this sort of stuff, dealing with years of PTSD the detective knew when someone was having a panic attack.

He gently shook her shoulder trying to grab her attention, he took the lamp out of her hands, prying it from her tight grasp. He took her head between her hands and gently stroked his thumb up and down her cheekbones, trying to gain eye contact.

"Hey, hey, Erin! You're ok, you're safe. Its Jay, im right here." Jay whispered, "Can you hear me? Squeeze my hand twice if you can hear my voice"

Squeeze. Squeeze.

Jay left out a sigh of relief. Erin was safe, and she knew that she was just in shock. "Ok, Erin im gonna ask you some questions ok? I need you to squeeze once fore no, and squeeze twice for yes, ok?"

Squeeze. Squeeze.

"Ok great! Are you in pain?"

Squeeze. Squeeze.

"Do you need the paramedics, I can bring them and get you checked out?"

Squeeze.

Jay's brows furrowed. "Are not comfortable with them?" Recalling how other women in this position didn't feel comfortable with strangers from previous cases.

Squeeze. Squeeze.

"Ok, how about I do it? Can I check you out?"

Squeeze. Squeeze.

"Alright, I need to get you off the wardrobe first." With that Jay felt Erin tense up, the thought about coming out of her safe haven caused her to fear to increase. "Hey, hey," Jau shushed smoothing down her hair, "Charlies not out here, it's just you and me. Im not going to let anything happen, promise."

"Promise?" A small voice whispered. Jay snapped his head up and notice her eyes were locking with his and her breathing had calmed down, although she still sounded wheezy, Jay could see her getting some oxygen in finally.

"Always" Jay asserted. "Ok how about we go sit on the bed and i can take a look at you." Jay helped lead Erin over to the bed, he could see how shaky she was, so he had an arm around her waist and his other hand on her elbow. Sitting her down on the bed, he gave her a look over. Her wound above her eyebrow still had fresh blood flowing from it, that's definitely going to need some stitches. He tilted her head so he could take a look at her neck, and frowned when the still darkening bruise clearly showed handprints. Looking at the rest of her body, Jay didn't see any serious or 'life-threatening' wounds, only bruises and scratches littered around her body.
