BIO

Serpci Sphynx is known to outsiders as a graceful, calm, and collected pharaoh ghost who keeps a cool head over everything. What only her closest friends know is that this is merely all an act. She is far from the calm ghost that she pretends to be. In reality, she is extremely timid and afraid of nearly everything.

She was born in the Sand Kingdom, as the daughter of King Sphynx. The king was quite the tyrant to his servants and slaves but treated his daughter like the princess she was. After Serpci's mother died giving birth to her, her father made sure that she had the happiest life she could. This led to Serpci becoming quite the spoiled brat as she got older. King Sphynx would gladly give in to her every demand, and she loved every moment of it.

Like most spoiled rich kids, reality hit Serpci like a truck when she got older. Her father was assassinated by a neighbouring territory via poisoned food, and since Serpci was his only child she inherited the throne at a very young age. The exact age is unknown, but estimates are between the ages from 8 to 16.

While she at first enjoyed having such power at such a young age, everything changed when she wandered into the kingdom at night. Not only did she nearly freeze to death, but she was attacked by aggressive Chinchos. Though she came back alive, she realised just how dangerous the world could be. Suddenly, ruling a kingdom so young seemed far scarier. Only the snakes whom she befriended helped her get through it.

The consequences of forcing her to rule only became obvious soon after her thirty-ninth birthday. Not only was her territory losing resources, but the kingdom down the river was growing more powerful by the day. Unable to handle the fears and stress going on in her head, she allowed a snake to inject her with lethal amounts of poison, killing herself within minutes.

She roamed the world in never-ending horror, before Hellen Gravely took pity on her and brought her in. After many years of working there, she heard of the great Mushroom Kingdom hero. No, not Mario – Luigi. She heard the stories of how he was terrified of everything he ran into, but never let that stop him from saving the day. The heroism and courage that this man seemed to possess awed her, and day by day she wanted to know more and more about him.

It only took a month for her to go full fangirl over him. The way he coped with his fears and insecurities far better than she ever did amazed her, and next thing everyone knew it became her afterlife's dream to meet him. To her, the obsession lasted since her death, though it only started a few years ago.

EXTRA NOTES

-Everyone in the Last Resort is perfectly aware that she is secretly terrified of everything, but she still feels the need to maintain the illusion of grace around them.

-One of the reasons she loves MacFrights so much is his warrior-like bravery and courage. It makes her feel a little safer in this world.

-She has what is called the 'Sand Kingdom' accent. Since the Sand Kingdom is based on both Egypt and Mexico, said accent could be interpreted as either Mexican or Egyptian. I personally lean towards the former, but it doesn't really matter.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Original Title - The Graceful Pharaoh

Oh boy, this gal. The idea of her being a Luigi fangirl came from how there's inexplicably a picture of him in her chamber, and that was my explanation for it. It started off as being a minor thing meant to be revealed at the end, but after a while it ended up being a major part of her character and how her part of the story goes. Soon, I realised that I needed an explanation as to why she was such a big fan of his. This is where her timid nature comes from. They're both terrified of everything, but while Serpci killed herself over her fears Luigi kept on going. She adored this kind of courage, and became his fan.

Cleopatra, who Serpci is no doubt based on, was used as inspiration. Cleopatra also died at age 39 via a suicide in 30 BCE, though obviously there are some major differences. Serpci was an only child for one, and she committed suicide to get away from stress and fear while Cleopatra did it to die with pride.

The last name 'Sphynx' comes from the Sphinx thing from Super Mario Odyssey, which is now named after a king of the kingdom and don't even think about questioning my headcanon. 'Cleo' is obviously based on Cleopatra.
