Honestly though I apologize that the last chapter took so long but luckily the end of the quarter for my online classes are coming up so I'll have a wee bit more time to work on the next chapter. Anyways enjoy the chapter and leave a review if you have any questions or comments. As per usual any questions will be answered at the end.
Chapter Nine: Hello Little Flower
"NGAHHH, where are they?" shouts a humanoid blue fish Monster as she punches a tree, cracking it before recoiling in mild pain. "We've looked everywhere, Al. All the way from New Home to the Ruin's door and there's no trace of em!" she continues to yell as a quiet voice comes out of the cracked phone she's holding in her other hand. "Al, you need to speak up, you know my phones broke." The fish Monster holds the phone closer to the side of her head.
"I, uh I said to calm down Undyne, we-we'll find them." says a meek voice, sounding panicked as typing and mouse clicks are heard. "I'm checking all the cameras I have set up. The, uh, last place they were was in Waterfall b-but the footage is severely distorted. I'm sorry I can't provide more help.." they mumble sadly.
The fish Monster, Undyne, sighs as she pinches between her eyes. "It's okay Alphys, don't put yourself down, kay? Look, some help is better than no help. How about I come over to the Lab and we look over the footage together?" offers Undyne as she trudges through the snow, "I'd prefer being' cooked in Hotland than freezing my sticks off here." She shivers as a group of younger Monsters run past, one of them tripping then falling on their face before getting up and running after the group.
"Y-yeah, three eyes are better than two." says Alphys with a light chortle.
"Was that a joke I heard?" questions Undyne playfully as she passes by the large decorated tree in the center of Snowdin.
"M-maybe," responds Alphys as a tone is played over the line, "Oh, I h-have a call coming in, I'll talk to you when you get here."
"Kay, see you later Al." replied the head of the Royal Guard before hanging up and stuffing the phone into her pocket. She continues to make her way through the snow before stopping in front of a familiar house. Turning to look at the darkened house she lets out a sad sigh, "Don't worry guys, I'll find you.." she mumbles before a sound catches her attention. Whirling around she sees a yellow flower facing away from her in the snow. Questioning this Undyne blinks and rubs her good eye before looking again to see that the flower had disappeared. She continues to stare for a moment longer before continuing along her path to Waterfall.
A blanket of fog rolls around her as she walks, Undyne ignores the mist as she continues. The sound of running water slowing increases as the snow around her melts away into soggy dirt and moss. The haze gives way to damp cave walls and waterfalls. Undyne rubs her arms as she embraces the warmer climate of Waterfall. She glances at a small outpost near the corner before looking away and jumping over a few rocks that were being washed downstream by a waterfall. As she lands she notices that something feels off, the hall felt longer and the sound of running water was gone. She takes a step forwards before lurching to the side and grabbing the wall as her vision swims.
"Woah." she mumbles as she leans against the wall for support while continuing down the corridor. As she walks she feels a dry spot on the wall, turning to look at it reveals it to be rectangular and grayed out as if something was here before. Wincing in pain she looks away and grabs her head while squeezing her eye shut tight as her head pounds. She pushes on past the gray rectangle and down the hall until the feeling of vertigo vanishes as she falls to the ground.
"Ngh, what was that?" she groans as she gets to her feet and looks back into the hall. The hall now looks normal, no ominous feeling and no pounding headaches. "Weird.." she mumbles before continuing on, noting to tell Alphys about her experience. She finds herself in a field of Echoflowers, all mumbling some long forgotten wish or conversation. A familiar noise catches her attention as she quickly looks behind her only to see rows of blue flowers gently swaying. She grumbles at her findings before turning and continuing on.
As Undyne marches off a small yellow flower peaks over the sea of flowers. It chuckles to itself, "Oh what a stubborn fool she is, Undyne head of the Royal Guard, outsmarted by a little flower like me. Although the missing bone bag is worrying, it's never happened before…" mumbles the plant before burrowing back into the ground.
[Lab]
A loud banging disturbed the yellow, reptilian Monster from her work. "Oh that must be Undyne," she mutters before adjusting her glasses, "C-coming!" The reptilian Monster shuffles over to the door before opening it, "H-hey Undyne." mumbles the scientist as she invites taller Monster in.
"Hey Alphys, I take back what I said earlier. I'd prefer to be a fishcicle." says Undyne as she steps into the cooler lab. The fish Monster tugs at the neck of her black tank top before slowly lowering herself to the floor, "Ah. Nice and cool floor." she groans as she presses her cheek onto the off white tiles.
"Un-Undyne you need to get up, I, uh, I have the footage pulled up on the screens." mutters Alphys as she scoots past the prone fish Monster.
"Fine, fine. I'm gettin up." replies Undyne as she peels herself off the floor and dusts the front of herself off. "Alright what have we got here." she says as she hunches over and drapes an arm over the back of the office chair the scientist was sitting on.
"Ah, w-well this is what the cameras picked up before they disappeared," says Alphys as she clicks onto a video file.
The file opens to a recording of the waterfall next to the entrance of Waterfall from Snowdin. A Human child leads two skeletal Monsters through the falls. The taller Monster almost gets hit by a boulder being pushed down stream before comically scrambling to get away from it. The trio passes the cascade out of the sight of the camera. With a few more clicks Alphys pulls up a second video. The group walks into frame down a corridor as the video feed flickers. The Human continues to walk while being followed by the two Monsters until stopping in front of something enveloped in static. The Human reaches out and grasps onto what seems to be a doorknob before pulling open the object before the video is corrupted.
"What the…" mutters Undyne before she remembers something, "Al, I recognize that hallway."
"W-what do you mean by th-that?"
"Well I had to go through it to get here right? Well when I was there something weird happened, I felt like something was wrong before I got really dizzy. Like, I couldn't walk straight and I found this gray spot on the walk," she explains while standing and turning to Alphys, "It was dry, which is weird for Waterfall, but when I looked at it I felt like my head was going to explode!"
"A-are you okay?" asks Alphys, panic deep in her voice as she goes to get out of her chair.
"The feeling went away after I got through the hall," she says while trying to calm Alphys down, "I'm sure that I'm fine now." She lifts the smaller Monster and sets her back into her chair before something pops up on the screen. "Hey Al, there's something here."
"What?" says Alphys as she looks at the message on her screen before opening it. "Sender unknown?" mumbles the Monster before looking at the content of the message. "For you..? W-what does that mean?" she mutters before the power goes out. The lizard Monster screams and almost falls out of her chair before being caught by Undyne as a screen turns on casting a dim light over them. A grainy video begins to play with a timestamp dated a little under two decades ago. [HOTLAND LABS 19XX]
Two small figures run through a large hall before ducking down a side corridor with warning labels surrounding the entrance. Soon after a hazy and distorted figure enters the hall before running down the same way the smaller figures went. The view shifts to another camera in a room down the hall where the two figures hide under some tables as the distorted one enters the chamber. They look around quickly before confronting the hidden duo. One crawls out and stands before them while the other stays under the desks for sometime before begrudgingly coming out. The later figure stares at the distorted one before stomping off. The distorted one stands at the edge of a gaping hole as something strikes the back of its head. The distortion around the figure disappears revealing a lab coat and a skull as they fall into the fissure. The screen suddenly cuts out with a loud pop as the lights turn back on.
"W-what in the…" mumbles Alphys as she stares at the blank screen while trying to comprehend what she just saw.
"The hell was that?!" shouts Undyne causing Alphys to jump, "Did you see that?! Another skeleton Monster! I thought Sans and Papyrus were the last ones!" Undyne looks to Alphys who mumbles something. "What Al?" asks the blue Monster as she leans down.
"W-well that footage is old an-and the uh smaller ones looked kind of familiar…" mumbles Alphys as she dwells on the familiar figures.
"What do you mean by familiar Al?"
"Well despite the l-low resolution they seem familiar to, uh well this will sound a bit strange but uh, they remind me of the Prince and their Human sibling…" she mutters the last part as she fidgets with her claws. Undyne stood there taking this new information in before shouting once more.
"You mean to tell me from that jumble of dots you can tell that they were Prince Asriel and Chara?!"
"C-calm down Undyne," says Alphys as she raises her voice slightly, "I guessed by their mannerisms, one was reluctant to follow along while the other was headstrong and f-forged their own path."
"But who was that skeleton?" insisted Undyne.
"I-I don't know, I d-don't think I've seen them before. But judging from the lab coat I uh guess that they worked on the Core before I became the Royal Scientist.." mumbles the yellow lizard Monster while fidgeting.
Unbeknownst to them a small flower rested behind them. "Interesting." it silently mutters before burrowing itself into the ground.
[Core]
A light rumble loosens some of the reddened ground as a flower erupts forth. It spits a mouthful of dirt out before looking at its surroundings. "This should be close enough." it says before diving back under and resurfacing every few feet. The flower comes to a stop at a pair of old doors sealed shut with rust. It sighs as it summons small white pellets and fires them into the door, a resounding clang is heard as the door is pushed ajar. The plant begrudgingly squeezes between the doors into a rundown laboratory, dust floated through the air and settled on cracked tiles.
"Well this is new." mutters the Golden Flower as it continues down the weathered halls, looking at the walls for anything recognizable. Before long it arrives in a medium sized room, much more worn down than the previous hall. On the floor with barely distinguishable words with arrows pointing in various directions. The one that caught the plant's attention though was the one that read 'Co e han b r 17' with an unworn arrow pointing down a large corridor. Following the arrow it pushes its way along.
The plant soon disappears down the hall, leaving the chamber barren. The worn writing painted on the floor begins to boil over in a thick black tar-like substance.
"Why does that number sound so familiar?" ponders the flower as it continues to follow along with the directions. "Seventeen.." it hums as it mulls it over before noticing the path has made a sharp turn to the right. They look towards the numerous warning labels strewn around the entrance of the dark passage, the path marker continues down the length before disappearing in the gloom. "Ominous," remarks the flower as it raises its leaves in a shrug, "Oh well."
It pushes onwards into the unlit corridor unaware of the mound of black rising out of the marking on the ground.
"Well gee, it sure is dark down here." says the plant as it's voice bounces along the walls. "Wish I had a flashlight or something.." The hallway opens to a large room with a dim fluorescent light hanging over a gaping fissure. It looks to the left to see a small alcove of desks and shattered monitors barely illuminated by the light. "Just like the video.." it mumbles quietly, "But I don't remember being here before…" It puts a leaf on it's chin area trying to remember before a rusty squeak is heard from the ceiling. The light fixture sways gently as the plant snaps it's head towards it. A gurgle emanates from the pit which draws the flower closer to the lip. It peers into the abyss below as something wet drips next to it from above.
The plant looks up to see a white face in the darkness above the light, staring at it with a cracked smile reaching from ear to ear.
"W-what the hell are you?!" it screams at the face only for it to stretch down from the ceiling on a viscous tendril before detaching and falling to the floor in a splatter of black. The face floats up to the surface as it rises, blocking the exit. A boney hand frees itself from the mass and reaches for the flower, dragging the 'body' with it.
"S-stay back!" screams the plant as it flings pellets into the creature just for them to sink into the dark. A pellet slams into the face of the being, tearing a hole into it. The mound stops moving as it jerks from the impact.
"Ha!" shouts the flower in triumph, "I got you!"
Static echoes from the hole as white bubbles forth to fill the space. The mass continues it's approach.
"N-no, l-leave me alone!" yells the golden flower with fear in its voice. The only response is static as the creature looms over it. The hand slides down and grasps the flowers stem before yanking it out of the stone. Screaming in pain the plant writhes in an attempt to free itself. Stretching outwards the limb holds the writhing flower over the abyss.
It then lets go.
[Falling]
It was dark and became darker and yet somehow darker. This ever present darkness was unfamiliar to the lone plant as it plummets, screaming into the abyss below. The flower continues to scream until it somehow runs out of breath and takes a moment to take in what had happened.
"The hell was that?!" it screams into the darkness, "and where the hell am I? I can't access the reset button nor the reload, the hell is happening?!" The golden flower attempts to adjust itself into a more upright position before a dim light washes over them.
A small tattered flower shivers in fear behind a cracked pillar as a larger figure looms on the other side.
The vision fades as the falling flower blinks a few times. It opens their mouth but before they can say anything another light fades in.
A vaguely cat-like, yet dog-like as well creature sits on a patch of flowers as it cracks a wicked grin and laughs at a figure in the shadows.
"The Fuck?!" cries the flower as they return to falling before a feeling that something was wrong creeps along their stem.
[Void]
Within the ever expansive darkness an entity made of static stares into a large frame that rests on the floor. The figure lays on its stomach and gently kicks its legs as it watches a large castle bathed in a dull violet light. A brief scream is heard as something falls from above and into the frame causing a ripple in the picture.
"Uh… that wasn't supposed to happen." mutters the entity as it looks off into the distance.
[?]
A crack is torn asunder with a dull boom as a screaming object slams into a deep purple table.
"Ow, my everything." mutters the creature as it uprights itself before looking around "By the Angel where am I?"
As they do so a cold voice calls out behind it, "Hello there little flower."
Oh hey here we are, I finished typing this before posting the last chapter so hopefully I can get started on the next one before long.
Betty: To be honest, I don't like that Frisk and other monsters are in Remnant.
The main reason I wrote it this way is because at the time there were sooo many "Oh Ruby falls down a hole and goes through the undertale story" fics.
Gamma-X: Interesting~! You know, I hope Chara is a part of Frisk and can take over for her when they fight to kill. XD
Interesting concept but I was thinking about making Frisk more of a supporting tank character while fighting.
