I woke up sometime later as Dr. Garrison walked into the room with his wife. The room was now dark, and silent, even though the small television had some game playing in the background.

"Hey, Bee, how are you feeling?" Regina asked, placing a small basket of food, a small blue stuffed bear, and balloons by the small sink.

"Groggy, tired, and hungry," I muttered, feeling my eyes get heavy once more.

"Oh, let me go and get you something to eat from the cafeteria then, dear. It is six in the afternoon. You must be starving." Regina said, rushing away.

I nodded, before turning to look at Masen and raising a brow at him.

"How long was I out for?" I asked, softly.

"A few hours." He answered, as his eyes flickered down to his wrist before looking back at me. "Do you want my mom to bring you something to eat? I know the cafeteria food isn't as good as a home-cooked meal…" he suggested.

I looked at him shocked before licking my lips, "Do you think she can get me some teriyaki chicken and rice or some pasta alfredo with chicken?" I asked as I reached for some water.

"Sure. Let me just step outside to call her. I'll be back soon." He promised.

As soon as he left the room, Dr. Garrison walked closer to me, sitting down on the chair Masen had vacated. "How are you feeling, deary?" He asked, softly.

"I feel really tired, and groggy. To be honest, I am not really all that hungry, but I know he has to eat to get stronger." I said, patting my stomach gently, smiling as I felt a small kick under my fingers.

He nodded in response. "The test result for your blood and urine samples came back. You had traces of protein in your urine— which I will be monitoring closely— and your blood pressure is a bit too high for my liking. So, I am going ahead and keep a close eye on you while you are here." He explained, as he checked my hands and feet, a frown appearing on his face as he did.

My eyes flickered towards my hands, feeling shocked, as I noticed my hands had slightly swollen since I had gotten here. "What does this mean, Doc?" I asked, concerned as I opened and closed my swollen hands.

"This is a side effect to the medications and Iv fluids, so I am not too concerned about the swelling, but I am concerned about the protein in your urine. I need you to increase your fluid intake, and also rest on your left side to get better blood flow…" he explained.

"Can I get up to go to the bathroom?" I asked, shyly.

He looked over at the machine, checking the small paper before nodding. "Sure. Let me call a nurse to assist you, and I'll go ahead and get you some more water with ice chips in it." He said as he got up.

As the doctor walked out, Masen walked back in, looking at me, in concern.

"Is everything alright?" He asked as he took his prior seat.

I sighed, shaking my head at him as the nurse walked in. "I'll explain right now, I need to use the bathroom," I said, as the nurse quickly disconnected me from the machines, and helped me sit up on the bed.

She guided me to the only other door in the room, flicking the lights on before setting down something on the toilet. "The doctor wants to measure and sample the urine." She explained before helping me sit down.

I silently did my business, before getting up and walking over to the sink to wash my hands.

The nurse then walked over to the toilet— mind you, I was standing by the sink, still waiting for her help back to the bed— where she proceeded to pull what looked like a massive measuring cup, and poured the urine into it before pulling out a paper and writing something down, and pour some into a small plastic cup.

She then emptied the rest, flushing the toilet, before walking over to the sink, where she proceeded to wash her hands.

"Sorry, the doctor wants to keep track of how many times you use the bathroom, and to check if there is an increase in the protein within your urine." She explained as she dried her hands.

I nodded, as she turned to me slowly opening the door, and guiding the machine out of the bathroom.

Masen sat on the chair once more as the nurse helped me get settled on the bed once more.

When she left the room, I turned to him sleepily, "You said you were sorry earlier, but I don't understand your apology." I softly said as I adjusted the bed to help me sit up slightly.

He started at me, wordlessly gulping before he answered, "I should have tried to contact you after you left that morning. The truth is, after I got back from my morning run, I got called away on some business. The entire thing turned into a legal clusterfuck situation that involved me traveling out of state— to and from our location here and in California — and wasn't settled until a few weeks ago. Honestly, I feel like an idiot for not asking Jasper about you sooner. I should have after you left so suddenly. If I had known this had happened, I would have tried harder. I swear it." He said, touching my hand.

What could I say to that? I was at fault. Jasper wanted to call Masen when he found out but I refused. Arguing that he wouldn't want to be involved.

"I am sorry too. Jasper wanted to tell you but I didn't let him. I thought you would hate me… I didn't want to burden you or anyone else…" I whispered, rubbing my stomach with my right hand.

Briefly remembering my egg donor's last words to me after my father's funeral. 'You have become nothing but a burden to me, I can't handle it. I should have gotten rid of you when I had the chance…' I hadn't spoken to her since that day. Nor do I plan to ever again. As far as I know, I am an orphan.

"Bella, you will never be a burden to me. Not will this baby. You two are the two most important things in my life now, and I hope you can give me a chance to prove it to the both of you." He said, lifting my hand to his lips and kissing the back of it.

His reaction surprised me.

Not only that, I actually felt bad for not telling him sooner. Jasper was right when he said Masen isn't a bad guy.

It just goes to show you how stupidity can blind you. Not only that but how bad it is to assume. I've made a complete ass out of myself.

I have judged a book by its cover, and boy have I gotten said judgment wrong.

A/N:

So, as I stated in the chapter prior, Bella's stay at the hospital is partially my experience.

Hope y'all enjoyed it. Until next time. Stay safe.
