Demetri - DPOV

The meeting with Carlisle and the Major goes off without a hitch. Jasper explains the battle plan and allows us to ask questions. He also keeps an open mind while listening to my input. He weighs the pros and cons of every suggestion as we go through the entire battle plan over and over again.

The result is flawless. I must admit that the stories of the Major are true. His strategic and tactical insight is astounding. I know that Caius would be impressed as well. I look over to Bella and see her looking at me and Jasper with a beaming smile on her face. I smirk as I give Jasper a nudge in his side. He looks at me questioningly and I point to Bella, who giggles at the sight of us. I walk over to her and pull her close.

"Why are you shining like the brightest star in my universe, tesoro?"

"You two look like two boys that are playing some imaginary war game to defeat the great evil. It's kind of cute if you ask me. It makes me happy that you two are getting along so well."

"The major is a person that deserves my respect. His knowledge of newborns is better than ours. It would be foolish of me not to listen to his advice, just as it would be foolish of him not to listen to my suggestions. We get along for our mutual benefit, amore mio."

Bella rolls her eyes at me and looks at Jasper for a moment, before saying:

"Just admit that you see Jasper as more than just the major. I know you, Demi, you like him, even though he is a bunny-munching vampire. There's no need in hiding it. He can feel it anyway."

Jasper and I laugh out loud at Bella's remark. I can see Jane rolling her eyes, while Alec and Felix try to hold their laughter. Carlisle looks at Bella with a loving smile on his face. I hope that he finally sees and understands how happy Bella is.

Jasper moves over to us and looks at my Bella. Suddenly I feel her tensing up and she gasps for unneeded air. Her eyes fill with venom tears that will never fall. She lets out a sob and rushes into Jasper's arms. I hold back a growl, but I know that he can feel my discomfort and worry for Bella. He nods at me in confirmation and tries to move a step back as he says:

"Bella, darlin', I didn't mean to make you so sad. I just wanted to apologize."

Bella hugs him even tighter and I can see the disbelief on Jasper's face as Bella's emotions register in his mind. The words that follow are almost rendered unnecessary by them.

"You have nothing to apologize for, Jasper. Didn't Edward tell you? I never blamed you for what happened. Why would I? You felt everyone's bloodlust and still managed to restrain yourself. If you really had wanted to drain me, no one would have stopped you. You let Emmett and Rosalie drag you outside because I meant something to you. You're so strong, Jasper."

"Bella, you're an amazing woman. Demetri is a very lucky man. I wish you all the luck in the world, sugar. I hope that you know that you can always call on me if you ever need anything. You will always be worth it."

Bella – BPOV

God, I never realized how guilty Jasper felt for what happened on my birthday. I never blamed him for that. He was never giving the chance to get used to my scent and the accumulated bloodthirst from seven vampires was enough to push the strongest vampire over the edge and still, he resisted. If he really wanted to drain me, I would have been dead. He's the best big brother I could ever wish for.

I let all the brotherly love and affection that I feel for Jasper flow through me and watch as he closes his eyes the moment my feelings reach him. He smiles and places a kiss on my hair before taking a step back. He turns to Demetri and says:

"The love that radiates from the two of you is incredible. I've never felt anything like it. Promise me that you'll always love her that way. She will always be my little sister and I'll hunt you down if you hurt her."

I walk back to Demetri's side and smile as he pulls me into his arms. He kisses the top of my head, before answering Jasper.

"If I ever hurt her, you won't have to search for me. I'll come to you and I'll let you kick my ass."

I snicker as I hear Jane say:

"Not before I'm finished with you. She's my sister too."

"Well, it's a good thing that I plan on never hurting you, amore mio, because I don't think I'd live through the punishments if I did. You touch the heart of everyone around you, tesoro. Even Jane is going soft on us. I love you so much."

Jane gives Demetri a swat against his head before saying:

"Is the meeting over, captain? Can we go back to the cabin?"

"Yes, Jane. The plan is set. We only have to wait for the newborn army to arrive. I suspect that Alice will keep us up to speed on that."

Jasper nods in affirmation. I can see Carlisle looking at me with a weird look on his face. Jane, Alec, and Felix make their way out of the study, and as Demetri and I move to do the same, Carlisle speaks up:

"Bella, could I talk to you for a minute?"

I feel how Demetri's hand squeezes my hip tightly in a clear sign that he's not leaving my side. I move closer to my husband as I turn to Carlisle. I notice that Jasper is still in the room too. He gives me a reassuring smile. I take a deep breath and say:

"Of course, Carlisle, but Demetri stays. Whatever you have to say, you can say to us both."

"Seeing first-hand how much he loves you and how protective he is of you, I wouldn't expect anything else. I just wanted you to know that I can see how happy you are, Bella. I must admit that I was surprised when Alice told us Demetri was your mate.

As you know I spent a significant amount of time in Volterra and I know Demetri as a ruthless warrior, but he is also a brave and righteous man. I know that he will protect you with his life. That's all that matters to me. Your happiness matters to me, Bella."

"Thank you, Carlisle. I've never been happier in my life. Demetri is all I'll ever need. He is everything to me."

Carlisle's answer gets interrupted as Alice enters the study in complete panic mode.

"Edward went out for a hunt and his future disappeared!"

Edward - EPOV

I can hear Demetri and Jasper going over the battle plan for the umpteenth time and I can't take it anymore. His presence in my home is making my blood boil. He stole everything from me. He stole my girlfriend, ruined my future, and now he's sleazing his way into the good graces of my family. I'm more resolved than ever to end his life.

I need a solid plan. It's too bad that I can't count on my family members for help. They're all traitors. I jump out of my window and run into the woods. A hunt always helps me think. I quickly take down two deer and dispose of the carcasses. I look up and see that I ended up close to the treaty line again. I pull up my nose as the horrid smell of Jacob Black invades my nostrils once again.

"Got a new obsession, leech?"

"Don't flatter yourself, Black. I didn't come here for you."

"Then why are you here, bloodsucker? Was one warning not enough? Do you want me to knock it into your thick skull?"

God, Jacob Black is a colossal pain in my ass. I came here to think, not to be insulted by some overgrown hotheaded boy. I pinch the bridge of my nose and take an unneeded breath. I turn my head and take another look at Jacob. I notice the tribal tattoo on his right shoulder.

Wait a minute! I recognize that tattoo. It's the same tattoo that Ephraim Black wore eighty years ago. Only the tribe's shape-shifters got to wear that tattoo back in the days. Does that mean the men in the tribe are shifting again? Why would they start shifting again? We left months ago.

"Man, if that's your thinking face, I've got to tell you that it isn't a pretty sight. You look like you're constipated."

"Why are the men shifting again?"

"Bravo, the leech put one and two together. It took you long enough. It started eight months ago, right before your family left. First, it was just one of us, but over the following months, more of us shifted. Your family started this, it's your fault!"

"We don't mean you any harm. We always stay on our side of the treaty line and we feed on animals. You can't blame us for this."

"Yes, I can. Your presence lured other vampires to Forks. We've been busy the last few months, thanks to you."

"Busy with what? Scaring them off with a howl?"

"Busy with killing them, leech. Want me to demonstrate?

He can kill vampires... I never liked Jacob Black until now. His friendship with Bella bothered me back then. He always wanted more from her than she was willing to give him. But he will be of use to me now. I'm going to exploit his weakness, his feelings for Bella, and he is going to help me kill Demetri.

"Listen, wolf boy, there is this vampire that I want dead and I have a good reason to assume that you would love to kill him too."

"I don't work for leeches. Get lost."

"Not even when that leech killed Bella and turned her into a vampire?"

Demetri - DPOV

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me why Edward's disappearance is a bad thing. I know that the indifferent look on my face is pissing Alice off but the boy is not my responsibility. I sigh as I look and see the sad look on Bella's face as she looks at Jasper and Alice. God, the things I do for my wife.

I check the whereabouts of the missing Cullen. I can track him easily, which means he very much alive. Too bad, really. Bella realizes what I'm doing and places both of her hands in mine before kissing me softly. I snicker as she pulls back and whispers:

"You're the best, Demi."

I turn to the Cullens and say:

"He's a few miles to the south, near highway 101 and he's alive."

Jasper nods in affirmation and jumps out of the window in pursuit of his so-called brother, Alice follows close behind. Carlisle moves over and lays his hand on my shoulder. He looks at my Bella and then at me, before saying:

"Thank you for that, Demetri. I know my eldest son is not on your list of favorite people at the moment. He is stubborn in his beliefs, but I'll make sure that he leaves the two of you alone. You're the perfect match for our Bella. He will see that too, in time."

"I truly hope so, Carlisle. You said it yourself, I'm ruthless. I protect what is mine and Bella is mine. If he hurts her again, his life is forfeit."

I smile as I smell my wife's arousal and I know that Carlisle smells it too. I smirk as I see him looking away uncomfortably. My dominant side always turns Bella on.

"Are you ready to go back, tesoro?"

Bella moves her hand to my ass and pulls me flush against her. I'll take that as a yes. Her voice is husky and downright sexy as she whispers in my ear:

"Take me to our cabin, Demi. I need you."

"Send word if Alice sees anything that is linked with the newborn army, Carlisle. One of us will always be at the cabin."

I take Bella's hand and start running back to the cabin. I didn't even wait for Carlisle's reaction to my last demand, knowing he will follow every command I give him. He knows not the anger the Volturi. He learned firsthand what happens to vampires that anger Aro when he lived with us. We reach the cabin and run straight into our bedroom. I hear Felix mutter something that sounds like 'fucking newlyweds' but I couldn't care less. Bella is the only one that matters to me, and she needs me right now.

Bella - BPOV

I close the door behind me after we enter our bedroom. I watch as Demetri takes off his cloak and throws it onto the chair in the corner. He kicks off his shoes and turns around to look at me. I let out a soft growl as his hands move to the hem of his shirt.

"Take it off, Demi."

He takes the shirt off in one go and I'm rewarded with the sexiest view ever. I can feel smell my own arousal as it soaks through my panties. I clamp my legs together to create some friction as he stalks toward me. He moves in behind me and I let my head fall back against his shoulder as he takes off my cloak.

I close my eyes and shiver in pleasure as Demetri slowly undresses me. The places where his hands touch my naked skin are set ablaze. I moan softly as his hands start roaming my body.

"I love you."

He picks me up, bridal style, and carries me to the bed. His eyes lock with mine as he lays me down.

"I love you too, my Bella."

He takes off the rest of his clothes, before moving on top of me and settling between my legs. He kisses me softly while sliding into me slowly. We both moan as he stretches me, and fills me completely. We make love for hours. We keep whispering how much we love each other and how happy we are, while our bodies move in perfect unison. The rhythm is tantalizingly slow, but it's exactly what we need. God, I love him so much.

It's early morning as Alec knocks on our door. I smile as Demetri groans and tries to hide under the covers. I quickly slip into my clothes and answer the door. Alec's smug look quickly changes as he notices it's me instead of Demetri. He gives me one of his sweet smiles and says:

"Jasper called, he asked if we wanted to join them for some combat training. We need to train anyway so it's actually a good idea. Are you joining us? I mean, you've got to stop …"

The rest of Alec's sentence gets lost as Demetri pulls the door open further and stares Alec down.

"You're lucky my wife likes you, Alec. Call Jasper, tell him we'll meet them in thirty minutes."

Alice – APOV

Something is wrong and it has something to do with the fact that Edward vanished from my visions yesterday. Ever since then, the vision of the battle turned blurry. I can still see the beginning, but somewhere in the middle something goes wrong and I can't see what. What the hell did Edward do?

I look out of the giant windows in the living room and smile as I watch Jasper spar with Demetri. The tone of Jasper's voice is strict and decisive. He's learning Demetri the fine art of dealing with newborns. Demetri is a quick study and can take Jasper down in no time. The rest of our families are watching them, only Edward is missing.

Jasper and Demetri shake hands as I'm pulled into a vision. I watch as Jasper and Demetri walk through the clearing. They're making sure that everything is ready for the battle. Suddenly Demetri stops and Jasper looks at him questioningly. Demetri's face changes from his usual indifferent look to one of worry and uncertainty.

'Jasper, I want to ask you something. You already know that I will give my life for my Bella. She is my number one priority; her life matters more to me than anything on this planet. If this battle somehow leads to my demise, promise me that you'll take care of her. Escort her home and help her through it. Tell her how much I love her and that I will always be with her.'

Jasper nods and sticks out his hand. Demetri shakes it and both men start walking again. I take a deep breath as the vision ends. I push down the sadness that the vision brought on and try to focus on the love that binds my best friend and her mate together. Why was I getting a bad feeling about all of this?
