Chapter 8
Siblings
Idiot stood at the entrance of the offices. Her mind was still stuck on what happened at the hotel, stuck on what she had said. She walked up to the door and stared at her reflection. She was still wearing the shirt from yesterday, stained with Vanessa's blood. She looked at the rest of hell behind her before opening the door and heading inside. She walked through the familiar buildings and catwalks of the offices, the raging fire pit below spitting up every now and then. Toddlers on opposite catwalks ran as soon as they saw her walking. Idiot wasn't interested in taking out her anger on small children right now. She continued to the apartments, made her way to her own and opened the door. She was greeted by Aries sitting on one of her chairs, drinking her wine. He motioned for her to sit on the chair across from him. She sat looking around the room noticing two more demons.
"You've met my son, Jeremy, correct?" Aries said, noticing her looking at him.
"No sir. But I did see him yesterday when my…" Idiot paused. "Vanessa quit. You decided to make him the heir instead of Mary."
"Yes. Well, I don't think she was a good choice to begin with, she never really showed interest in the first place. She never listened to me and her ignorance would have had this whole place burned to the ground," Aries stated. "So, my son was the better option." Idiot knew he was lying, but she was too interested in why he was here than why the heirs changed.
"Anyways. Enough with that. We noticed that you weren't at work today, so we decided to check on you just in case you were ok. Seeing if you had any second thoughts about working here," Aries stated before taking a drink of the wine.
"No sir. I was helping Vanessa," Idiot responded, tapping her claw on the chair.
"Ah yes. I almost forgot. You and her were good friends weren't you." Aries said. "It's a shame that she was a quitter."
"Yes. It is a shame," Idiot said. Aries furrowed his brow, as he stood from his chair and started to walk around her apartment, picking up trinkets and books. The other demon made his way to the front door, blocking it. The son stared at her with his goat eyes making her feel more uncomfortable. Idiot sank in her seat.
"I need to ask you something," Aries said finally, while examining one of her shelf trinkets.
"What is it sir?" Idiot responded.
"Did Vanessa tell you anything about what I told her?" Aries asked, looking back at Idiot. Idiot stiffened. She knew that Vanessa told her the day she was going to lose her arm. She remembered their talk with Angel Dust and his suggestion to kill Aries. On top of that, what she had told her of what would happen if she told Alastor. But despite that, she did. Idiot thought about the continued idea of killing her boss. Vanessa's attempt at convincing her to stay at the hotel.
"Did she?" Aries asked, breaking Idiot from her thoughts.
"Oh. Sorry sir. Yes. Yes, she did," Idiot replied, her mind searching for ways out of this situation.
"So, you are aware of the consequences of her telling Alastor." Aries asked, following up his question.
"Yes sir," Idiot said. Aries walked back to his chair and sat down again.
"So, I'm assuming she told him anyways," Aries stated, taking another drink of the wine. Idiot was about to respond until Aries started to talk again.
"And I would like to assume that Vanessa also understands the consequences of what she did," Aries growled.
"I assume so sir," Idiot responded, as she looked around the room again. Her eyes met Jeremy's, unable to read his expression.
"What will happen, sir? Alastor knows and I'm pretty sure he won't let you get to her," Idiot stated.
"She is the least of my problems right now. I need to make sure that he can't hurt anyone here," Aries said. "Especially my heir." He gestured towards Jeremy.
"Ah, I see," Idiot said. "Do you need anything else from me, sir?"
"Nope. That was it," Aries said, standing up to head to the door. Jeremy and the other demon followed them out. Jeremy stopped at the door, looking at Idiot. He stood there before leaving. Idiot walked out, watching them leave. She started to head back in before noticing a bottle of wine at her door. It looked as if it had been sitting there for a few days. There was a note tucked under it.
'Idiot,
I'm off to my second day at the hotel. I found this and thought to give it to you before I headed out, knowing you were probably still asleep. I'll see you soon.
~Vanessa'
Jeremy followed Aries before breaking off. He headed down a long hallway, crossing the catwalks of the offices. He only had been in the office for a few days so he didn't really know how to navigate through it. So, he used his keen sense of smell to find Mary. He came down another hallway before almost running into her, her staring at him angrily.
"For fucks sake man! First you take my job and now you're trying to run me over!" Mary shouted at the goat boy. He stared at her shifting his body.
"Well? Are you going to stand here or are you going to say something?" Mary asked impatiently. He took out a clip board and wrote.
'Mute, can't talk. Sorry.' Mary stared at the note before looking at him.
"So. What do you want?" Mary asked, watching him write.
'I need to talk to Vanessa .' Mary read the note and looked back at him.
"So you want me to tell Vanessa something?" Mary asked him, rolling her eyes. He nodded.
"Do you know who Vanessa is?" Mary asked annoyed at this little shit.
'She lost her arm.' he showed Mary the note.
"So you do know her." Mary said. "What do you want me to do then?"
'Take me to the Hotel.' he shifted anxiously, watching her read the note. Mary stared at him before walking off, gesturing for him to follow her.
