Chapter 10: Another dream coming true
Next Morning
Not meaning to, but Grissom must have fallen asleep in the chair because the next thing he knew was his wife's soft touch on his shoulder while she was shaking it lightly and her soft voice. "Babe, wake up. Babe." After another shake, he slowly opened his eyes and moved his neck, cringing a little when he felt it a little stiff, causing Sara to ask in concern while holding out a cup of coffee for him. "You ok?"
Once he moved his neck around to work out the kinks, he smiled as he took the cup from her. "I'm fine, it wasn't the first time I fell asleep in a chair." Then he moved his left hand up to her stomach as he finished. "And it certainly won't be the last."
That was the truth because for the first few weeks when their sons were born, while taking those weeks off work, he would be in their rooms, watching over them, and eventually he would fall asleep in the chair, wanting to be the first one there when they needed someone to take of them so Sara could get a little extra sleep. Of course Sara tried to convince him she could get up some nights, but he wanted her to get as much rest as she could while he was sill home.
Sara smiled sweetly as she placed her hand on top of his, running her thumb along his golden wedding band while thinking she couldn't imagine having a better husband.
He took a sip of his coffee before asking with a raised eyebrow at the look she was giving him. "What?"
She shook her head with the smile still on her face. "Nothing, just amazed on how lucky I feel to have you."
He smiled as he took her hand. "Funny, I was thinking the same thing." He then tugged on it so she would come closer, and when she did, he wanted her to sit on his lap. Once she was comfortable with an arm around his shoulders, he asked. "Where are the boys?"
She sighed in content while moving her other hand to his cheek and ran his thumb up and down skin. "Having breakfast with Melissa and Luke, she wanted to have a little time with just her brothers, and your mom is with Kim and Mrs. Clarkson (Deion's mom), it seems they found a common interest in art." Grissom smiled with a nod in understanding, then she asked, seeing a little pain in his eyes, signs of a headache. "So, how bad was it last night?"
He sighed. "Not too bad, for the most part at least, and while I did drink a little more than usual, I was the one that made sure everybody got back to the hotel safely."
She smiled at the last thing he said, of course he would, but smirked at the first. "But enough to get yourself a slight headache, I see."
He closed his eyes with a short nod. "It would appear so."
She kissed his temple and asked. "You want something for that?"
"Might as well."
She nodded, and kissed his temple a second time before standing up and going to bathroom to get some of his headache pills while he stood up and stretched. When she was near him again, she handed them the pills, which he took them and swallowed them before thanking her, then he sighed as he cupped her cheek. "Well, today is the day."
She nodded. "We are watching her be given away before we even had a chance to know her."
He then smiled brightly. "Which that is about to change."
Sara perked up with a bright smile of her own. "And I can't wait for that to happen." She took a shaky breath as she continued. "To have all my kids...close by will be a miracle."
He nodded with the smile still on his face. "The best of miracles."
They kissed softly before wrapping their arms around one another.
Hours later/25 minutes before the wedding
Alone, after dismissing her bride's maids, and standing in front of the mirror inside her hotel room, Melissa, who was in a thin strapped wedding dress that went down to her knees with her hair braided with a subtle touch of make-up, smiled as her heart raced in anticipation on marrying the only man she ever loved. Even though she was young and had only two other boyfriends before Deion, which she didn't get too far with them, she knew the connection she shared with him was everything she ever dreamed about having, just like what her adoptive parents have, and like she later found out, what her biological parents had as well.
Her moment alone was interrupted when there was a knock on the door.
She took a breath and turned around before walking towards the door and opened it, smiling at the two men she needed to talk to. "Hi, thanks for coming."
David smiled with a nod, along with Grissom. "Of course honey, what's going on?"
She let the men in and closed the door before turning to look at them again, which the way they were looking at her, made her shyly smile. "What?"
David was the first to speak because Grissom was just too speechless on how beautiful his daughter looked. "Wow honey, you look beautiful, amazing."
Grissom finally cleared his throat before smiling. "I couldn't say it better myself sweetheart."
Melissa cleared her throat before replying. "Thank you." After they nodded, Melissa continued, now feeling a little distressed. "Now the reason I asked for you both to be here. I was hoping you could do me a favor."
Hearing the tone in her voice, David replied in a reassuring one. "Honey, this is your day, whatever you want, no matter what it is, it's yours."
Grissom nodded in agreement, he would do absolutely anything his daughter wanted him to.
Melissa smiled with tears in her eyes. "I was hoping you would say that."
On the beach & moments away from the start of the ceremony
As family members/guests started taking their seats, Sara was asking around if any of them had seen her husband, which they all said they hadn't, and just as she was about to get worried, Hailey had walked up behind her and spoke with a smile. "Hey, I think I found your husband."
Sara turned around to look at Hailey, then she pointed to the side of them, where the bride's maids and bride was walking, so Sara looked and about gasped at seeing her husband walking with their daughter on one side while David was walking on her other side, and despite sharing this moment with another man, Sara knew that walking their daughter down the aisle was something he's always dreamed of doing, so in other words, his dream of doing that just came true.
She smiled at her sister with tears in her eyes, and Hailey, with the smile still on her face, took her sister's hand and walked them towards the front row before helping her sit down on the second seat.
A few moments later, once the bride's maids were in place, a violinist, who was a long time High School friend of Melissa's, started the wedding march tune so everybody stood up and turned to watch the bride walk down the 'aisle' until she was standing in front of her future husband.
Both men kissed their daughter's cheek before walking up to their wives, who were on different sides of the 'aisle', and when Grissom and Sara were next to one another, she could see tears in his eyes, so she cupped his cheek and ran her thumb up and down with a smile. He smiled in return, then kissed her on the forehead before they turn their attention to their beautiful daughter, eventually hearing their beautiful vows, where there was not a dry eye who was watching the ceremony.
At the Reception
After moving the wedding party to the same restaurant they had dinner at the beginning the week, they all sat down to eat with a mixture of emotional speeches and good natured jokes, then the bride wanted to say something, so she took the microphone and stood in the middle of the room, looking at her guests, all family members really in her eyes.
"First of all, I want to thank all of you for being here, I know it can sometimes be a pain to schedule time off and make trip arrangements, but my husband and I..." She stopped and chuckled while she shook her head. "My husband, I can't believe I am saying that right now."
They all chuckled and cheered while husband and wife looked at one another before Deion shouted. "I love you, baby!"
Melissa smiled brightly. "I love you too, babe."
After another round of cheering, Melissa continued after she cleared her throat. "Anyway, we really do appreciate it." She took a moment before her words became more emotional as she looked at three special women in her life. "I also want to take this time to thank three women in my life, who mean the world to me, my moms." She looked at her mother-in-law first. "First my mother-in-law, I want to thank you for welcoming me into your family with open arm, even though know you had your reservations, and I understand why, but you trusted in us, in me, and I promise I will do everything I can for your son, he is in good hands."
Mrs. Clarkson nodded with tears in her eyes, mouthing 'I love you', and Melissa nodded before looking at the woman who raised her. "Next, my adoptive mom, I want to thank her for choosing me to raise, out of all those babies out there she and my dad could have picked from, they chose me to love and care for, to teach me from right and wrong, inspired me to follow my dreams and heart, no matter where it lead, and it's because of you two and how supportive you have been that I found the courage to find my biological mom." Melissa's eyes connected with Sara's, which there was no stopping both of their tears as Melissa finished. "It's only been three months since I met her, them, my biological family, but I already feel like I've been with them my whole life. She could have went in another direction when she found out she was pregnant at a young age, but she choose to go through with it, she gave me life, and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and I can't wait to get to know you more." She looked at the three women again as she finished. "I love you all."
Without even thinking about it, the three women walked up to Melissa and gave her a hug, and when it was Sara's turn, she whispered. "I love you too, sweetie."
Melissa nodded with tears going down her cheeks, and Sara wiped them away before giving her a kiss on the cheek and walking back to the table to sit down next to her husband.
Once Melissa finished the rest of her speech, it was time for husband and wife's first dance, once again, not a single dry eye in the building.
When the bride and groom had finished their dance, they took turns dancing with their parents, even their in-law parents.
Once the dance floor became open for the others, Sara and Grissom were one of the first ones out there, somewhat still in a daze that they were here among these amazing people and actually participating, like Grissom dancing with his daughter while Sara danced with her son-in-law.
They couldn't stop smiling with a few chuckles here and there, then Sara asked after clearing her throat. "So, how was it?"
Grissom raised an eyebrow. "What?"
Even though she pretty much knew the answer to her question, she wanted to see it in his eyes when he told her. "Walking our daughter down the aisle?"
As he talked about how he felt about it, which Sara wasn't that surprised on how emotional he got, his mind took him back to that unsuspecting yet touching moment.
Flashback
Melissa smiled with tears in her eyes. "I was hoping you would say that."
There was a short pause before the young girl spoke again. "I would really like it if both of you would walk me down the aisle."
Both men were shocked for several seconds, so Melissa took that opportunity to explain as she looked at David. "Daddy, I know you've probably been wanting to do this since you picked me, and I don't ever want to you think or feel I don't appreciate everything you have done for me, that's not what this request is about..."
David finally came out of his shocked state with a smile and shake of his head as he cupped her cheek. "Oh honey, I don't think that, and what you are asking is totally reasonable. I think a part of me knew and was prepared for this once you found out you had another dad and wanted a relationship with him, and it's ok."
Melissa sniffled as she asked. "Are you sure?"
David nodded with a smile and tears in her eyes. "Any way I can make your day be the best day of your life, I'm here for it, no matter what it is. I love you."
She brings her dad in her arms. "Thank you, daddy."
He kissed her head as he whispered. "You're welcome, honey."
After they pulled back, Melissa looked at Grissom, who seemed to still be in a little shock, so she spoke to him. "I bet when you thought of walking your daughter down the aisle you didn't expect to share that experience with another man, and I get it, so if you don't think you..."
Grissom finally cuts her off with emotion. "I would be honored."
Melissa's eyes lit up. "Really?"
Grissom nodded with a smile. "Really." He took a breath before continuing. "While you're right, it is a different vision then what I had always dreamed about when it came to this moment, it's still a dream come true that I am actually here and you asking me, so if you want me there next to you, I'll do it." He then looked at David, respecting how he must feel about sharing this moment too. "If you're really ok with it?"
No hesitation, David looked at Grissom held out his hand and smiled. "I am, and you're a good man."
They shook hands while Grissom nodded. "So are you, and I must say we have the best daughter in the world."
They release hands with bright smiles on their faces before Melissa stepped up to Grissom and gave him a hug, whispering. "Thank you, dad."
Hearing her call him 'dad' sent his heart flying as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head, whispering in return. "You're welcome, sweetheart."
End of Flashback
Sara smiled as he finished his story. "Wow, that's amazing."
Grissom nodded with tears in his eyes. "Just being here was everything to me, but for her to ask to share that moment with her was, I..." He stopped for a moment while she ran her thumb up and down his cheek, calming him down, then he shook his head. "I don't think I have the actual words to describe it. I would say it was a dream come true, but it feels like we've been saying that a lot lately."
Sara shook her head with a smile. "And I don't care if we have. I bet not a lot of biological families get to share these types of moments with the children they gave up, whether it was by their choice to stay away or the 'kids' not wanting them to be a part of it, let a lone get to have a relationship with them, so I'm going to keep saying it and thinking it, because that's what this is."
He nodded with a smile. "You're absolutely right, honey."
Her smile got wider before they shared a kiss and held one another close.
About an hour and half later, the bride and groom broke away from the party, ready to have the rest of the night to themselves.
After walking out of the elevator, which took them to the bigger suites, they walked towards the door hand in hand with smiles on their faces, but before he unlocked the door, he spoke after clearing his throat. "Before we go in there, I have to ask, are you sure?"
Melissa looked at her new husband with curiosity. "About what?" She smirked but she was still a little worried. "Are already having second thoughts about us?"
Deion's eyes lit up as he shook his head before cupping her cheek. "Not for a second, I've been waiting for this moment longer than I care to, or should, admit."
She smiled shyly. "Because I was forbidden when you first met me?"
He took a breath and nodded. "Yes."
Then she sniffled, knowing he could have given up on her. "But you waited for me."
He ran his thumb up and down her cheek. "Best decision of my life, you were worth the wait."
"Then what are you asking about?"
"About the next step of our lives, are you sure about me taking the job, because I..."
She places a finger to his lips before she continued with a smile. "Yes, I'm sure, and admittedly I'm kind of excited about this new chapter in our lives."
With both of her families supporting her on this decision, she felt more confident about the biggest move of her life.
"Yeah?"
She wrapped her arms around her husband. "Oh yeah. I love you, Mr. Clarkson."
He smiled as he wrapped one arm around her while sliding in the key card in the door to unlock it. "And I love you, Mrs. Clarkson."
A nice shiver went down her spine as she whispered. "I already love it when you call me that."
He opened the door before he swept her up in his arms bridal style, causing to her gasp with a smile, then he smiled as he walked into the room. "Well in that case, welcome to the honeymoon suite, Mrs. Clarkson."
He took another step in the room, letting the door close behind them as their lips touched for a kiss, just the start of their night filled with passion and romance.
AN: Hope you enjoyed the wedding. Thanks for reading, and please review. Stay safe.
