Ike X Ruby: Do You Even Lift Gurl?
Ruby: What do you call it?
Ike: Beorc Ragnell. Forged it myself.
Ruby: It's so cool! Look at this hilt. It swivels.
Ike: Well, since mercenaries often regard their weapons as extensions of themselves, I took a more…literal approach to the expression. (And garnered the ridicule of about two dozen Greils in training as I banged away at the forges)
Ruby: Amazing! What else does it do?
Ike: *smiles* Why don't you try it?
Ruby: Alright! *grips the hilt and tries to lift the sword.*
Ike: Hehehehe.
Ruby: *strains for another minute* Okay *huff* It's pretty heavy.
Ike: Is it? *Lifts Ragnell with one hand and raises it into the air, wielding it as if it were a normal blade*
Ruby: *jaw drops* One hand?! Why did you design it to be two-handed then?
Ike: I do like to indulge in a little bit of flexing. A bad habit of Marth's that rubbed off on me.
Ruby: *smirks in assurance* I bet I know someone who can lift it.
(Several friends later…)
Ruby: Okay, you're not seventeen.
Ike: Last I checked, I am.
Ruby: So how can you lift that hunk of metal as if it was made of tissue paper?
Ike: *straight faced* Simple. Through the rigorous training all mercenaries must undergo.
Ruby: *screams in frustration* You're a troll is what you are! *stomps off, then falls after taking fifteen steps*
Ike: *clears his throat to fight the snicker rising in his throat while at the same time attempting to produce an apologetic look for the blonde brawler staring the flesh off of his bones*(This went a lot better in my head. Now, where I can hide from Yang…)
Yes, one of Marth's most vivid early memories of Beacon was how Ike somehow managed to belittle Ruby and a few others we will not name by flexing his arm strength. However, there's more to this than you think, and if you read the next chapter, Marth actually shares that there is ONE person in Beacon (outside of Team KEIM), who's privy to the secret of Ike's ability to wield his mighty stick. Read on to see who it is.
