A/N: Sorry it took me so long to get this out. I was having problems with the flow and still am not 100% happy with it but it seems no matter how much I work on it I'm not getting it where I want to. So after much deliberation I decided to post it and move on to the next Chapter. I hope you all enjoy!.
While Logan and Colin were in New York, Finn went to Hartford Memorial to try and track down Rory. He wasn't able to sleep the night prior thinking about how broken she looked in Logan's arms the previous evening. Whenever he started to drift to sleep, he would think about the way she looked, how her screams sounded and be wide awake. Finn had always held a soft spot for Rory, she leveled out they're over the top theatrics and kept them grounded. When Logan and she had found each other again he was thrilled. Both of his friends were happy, they where were they should have been all along. But both of them were idiots and never actually talked about anything important.
Finding the maternity wing was easy but getting information from the nurse was not. After sweet talking and pleading, he was able to convince the nurse to ask Rory if he could visit. Now he stood at nurse's station trying to figure out what to say to her. He felt an overwhelming amount of guilt for telling Logan, if he hadn't said anything then Logan wouldn't have confronted her and caused her anxiety. But if he hadn't told Logan then he would have never known he was going to be a father. This entire situation was a mess, and he didn't even know how it could even start to be fixed. Logan and Colin were in New York with Mitchum executing a plan to try and get Odette and Shira to admit to what they had done, he just hoped it worked and that they would get what was coming to them.
Chris Hayden walked out into the waiting room to see the tall Australian from the previous night. When the nurse had told him that Rory had a visitor, he hoped it was Logan but then apprehensive when he was told it was Finn. Chris had been debating all morning on if he should tell Rory about the text he had sent to Logan but couldn't bear to have her crushed that he had not visited yet.
Clearing his throat slightly Chris took one more look at the man as he turned around before speaking. "What can I do for you?"
Finn turned and caught sight of the disheveled man before him. It was obvious that Chris had not slept much, if at all, and was running on pure adrenaline. "I just wanted to check on Rory. We're all worried about her," he stated as he walked closer to the other man.
Chris raised an eyebrow, "it must just be you worried since Logan isn't here or bothered to show up."
"You told him to stay away," Finn replied trying to defend his friend. "You told him to fix this and that's what he is trying to do. We went to Mitchum last night and now he is in New York. The lawyers were Odette's but we don't know how she found out about the baby or about Rory."
"I sent him a text from Rory's phone last night," Chris stated. "I gave him her room number, told him to visit."
Finn shook his head vehemently. "Logan didn't get a text. If he would have gotten it, he would have been here. He has been so worried and wanted nothing more to be here but stayed away because you told him to."
Chris studied the man and didn't see anything but honesty and worry in the younger man's face. "Do you want to come back? Rory is asleep and Emily just left to get some decent food."
"Yes," Finn immediately replied. "I promised Logan I would try and see her and let him know how she's doing."
The two men walked about to the room and saw that Rory had just woken up.
"Love," the Australian exclaimed as he rushed towards her. "We were all worried!"
Rory gave the man a small smile and looked past him. Finn noticed she looked for Logan so grabbed her hand. "I'll let him know your room number if you are okay with that? He is in New York with Colin trying to get to the bottom of this mess. He plans on being back tonight."
"Thanks Finn," she whispered, and Chris handed her a bottle of water for her to sip. "Please let him know my room."
"How are you?" Finn asked as he looked at all the machines. "How is the baby?"
She sighed and gently rubbed her belly. "I'm waiting for the doctor to come back in but from what the doctors told dad last night the baby is okay."
Before anyone could say anything else the doctor came in and Finn stepped outside. He took a few deep breaths feeling relieved that Rory seemed okay but still worried about her being in a hospital bed hooked up to all those machines. He pulled out his phone to message Logan and let him know that he was clear to visit and that Chris had messaged him from Rory's phone last night.
It only took moments before he received a message back. How is she? How is the baby? Odette blocked Rory on my phone. The situation has been handled. Colin and I are on our way now, should be there in a few hours.
Finn read the message and quickly typed back She seems okay, hooked up to a bunch of machines. Baby is fine, the doctor just went in to talk to her. For the first time in 24 hours felt like some things were going right… but then he saw Emily Gilmore walk towards him.
"Hello Mrs. Gilmore," Finn said as the older woman walked towards him.
"Finn," she replied. "Where is your friend?" she asked in a cold tone.
"In New York. He is in a meeting with Mitchum, Odette and Shira trying to figure everything out," he replied trying not to squirm under her gaze.
"If I find out that Logan or the Huntzberger's had anything to do with this Rory wont be able to stop me this time from hunting them down," she paused and a small smile formed on her lips. "Actually, I don't think I will need to do anything I am sure Paris will come up with something… suitable."
Finn gulped remembering Rory's crazy friend from Yale. "I assure you Mrs. Gilmore Logan had nothing to do with this and we met with Mitchum last night… None of believe that he had anything to do with this either."
"Hmmm, so that gold-digging cocktail waitress might be involved? I've wanted to destroy her for years for the way she treated Rory." A calculating look crossed Emily's face as she debated on ways to destroy the woman who told her granddaughter she wasn't good enough.
"I am not sure what will happen today, but I am sure Logan will tell you all when he gets here. I just messaged him, and he is on his way back from New York," Finn stated shifting uncomfortably.
Emily gave him a pointed look. "You should warn him that none of us is happy with this situation. While Rory shoulders blame for her part in the mess he is just as equally responsible."
Before Finn could reply she walked off and headed to Rory's room and Finn sat down debating on if he should tell Logan about this encounter now or later. Shaking his head slightly, later he thought to himself. I'll tell Logan about Emily when he gets here.
Emily walked to Rory's room and paused when she saw Chris standing in front of the door. "Is everything okay?" she asked.
Chris nodded, "the doctor is examining her right now. When he is done, they will come grab me and let us know what is going on. I'm sure she won't mind if you are in there as well."
She nodded and placed her hand gently on his shoulder. "After the doctors give us an update go home. You need to shower and try and get some sleep. I'll stay with her."
Tears formed in his eyes and shook his head no. "Logan will probably be here eventually, and I don't want to leave her alone for that."
"She will probably want to face him alone," Emily sighed. "They have a lot of things to discuss. I saw his friend in the waiting area, he told me that neither Logan or Mitchum were involved and Logan is on his way now from New York."
Before Chris could reply the door opened and they walked in the room to hear what the doctor had to say.
"Rory," Dr. Franklin began. "You had contractions when you came in but luckily, we were able to stop them. Neither the fetal monitoring or ultrasound show any issues and your blood pressure is normal so you're doing good now. Your measuring at 27 weeks pregnant and we need to get you to at least 30 weeks. The survival rates for a baby born during 30 – 32 weeks is around 99% and there are limited complications we would prefer to get you to as close to your due date as possible. I know you have stress, but we need to limit that as much as possible."
Rory sighed, "The baby's father just found out. There were some… miscommunications and while I thought he knew about the baby he actually didn't. He is planning on visiting later today. Is that going to cause an issue?"
The doctor rested him hand on Rory's arm and saw the worry in her eyes. "If you are talking to him today, we can monitor you and we will be notified if your blood pressure or the baby's vitals spike. When you talk to him you need to remain calm and that goes for the rest of your pregnancy."
"Thank you, doctor," Rory said with a slight nod.
"Thank you," Chris said as he shook the man's hand. "We will make sure that he knows that the stress needs to be limited."
"My shift ends soon but I will be on call and can be back in about 30 minutes. Dr. Franks is coming on shift and she can handle anything until I can get here. I'll be back tomorrow morning and if everything looks good we may be able to release you then but you will need to be on bed rest for at least a week."
Rory smiled at him and as soon as the door closed behind him, she looked at her father. "Okay dad. The doctor came, everything looks good so now it is time for you to go home, take a shower and get some sleep."
"Rory," he started but she held up her hand.
"Thank you for everything but you have been with me all night and all morning and now you need some sleep. I know that hospital chair wasn't comfortable. I'm sure grandma will sit with me for a while," she said hoping her father wouldn't argue.
Chris looked at both women and sighed. "Fine. I will go home and get some sleep but if anything happens…"
"We will call you," Emily said with a smile.
He walked over to Rory and placed a kiss on her head and then gathered his things. As soon as he was out the door Rory turned to Emily and asked, "So what do you want to watch?"
Emily settled in the chair next to Rory and smiled, "how about something funny?"
Chris walked into the waiting room Finn immediately spotted him and jumped up and walked towards him. "The doctor just left," he stated not giving the young man a chance to say anything. "The baby is fine, Emily is in there with her now." He paused and ran a hand through his hair. "When Logan gets here… you need to let him know that Rory can't handle the stress. She needs to make it at least another 3 weeks to give the baby the best shot but if she can make it all the way it's better. He needs to control himself. Rory is emotional and hormonal, he needs to be the bigger person in this situation."
Finn nodded his head. "I'll let him know. It will still be awhile before he gets here they left the city not long ago."
"Okay," Chris sighed in a tired tone. "Rory kicked me out to get some sleep. So… I'm sure I will see you later." With that he left the hospital feeling every bit his age.
As Finn watched Chris walk out of the door, he headed to the nurses' station. He needed to do something for Rory but he had no idea where to start. The obvious choices coffee and food would not work in this situation, so he needed to get creative.
When Logan sat down in the car, he immediately pulled out his phone and went to Rory's contact information and saw that the contact was blocked. He let out a humorless laugh, "that bitch blocked Rory's contact so I never got any calls or texts." Logan unblocked her and rested his head back on the chair. "How the hell am I going to fix this?"
Colin glanced at his friend and sighed. "Logan, about last night…"
"No, I get it," Logan sighed as he leaned his head back in the chair. "No one had any problem telling me what an ass I've been. It just hurt that you all thought I could… go after her like that. All of you immediately jumped on me the minute you saw those papers."
"I should have given you a chance," Colin sighed not knowing what he could say to possibly make up for his comments. "It's just…" he trailed off looking for the words. "With her… the two of you… She's always loved you, no matter what. You have that kind of love that we have all wanted to find. But you fucked up, this entire go with her you fucked up and don't get me wrong she fucked up to. I meant what I said last night you treated her like shit, but she loved you too much to let you go and we all saw it. We tried to talk to you about it, but you always pushed back saying she wanted casual, but she didn't suggest Vegas until after Odette. She didn't date another man until after the engagement was announced even though you were always out and photographed with women."
Logan sighed and ran his hand over his face. "I know, I fucked this up but how do I fix it?" he growled. "How do I prove to her that I've always wanted her but was to much of a.. a.. butt faced miscreant to let her get to close. She destroyed me when she said no!"
"And you destroyed her when you told her all of nothing!" Colin countered. "She needed time! She just graduated! She told Finn that you two had never even talked about marriage before! You of all people should know she doesn't handle big life surprises well."
"We said we would factor each other in," Logan defended. "I factored her in, I found a job, researched jobs for her, even found us a house that I knew she would love, and she said no! She didn't want what I wanted, what I needed!"
Colin laughed and the sound caused Logan to look at him with a murderous look. "You didn't factor her in. You made all the decisions and expected her to follow you like she always did. But for once she pushed back, just a little, she needed to figure out her next move and she wanted to do it with you. She said not yet but you were the one that said all or nothing, you are the one that walked away. When you came back into her life, she was too afraid to tell you what she wanted. She wanted you but you still lived your life, did what you wanted, and made it seem like… you allowed her to be a part of your life but you never fully let her in. You had the perfect women, and yet you rarely treated her like she mattered to you as much as you mattered to her. You both are highly intelligent people and great writers, but you don't communicate with each other!" He let out a tired sigh then continued, "like I said you both made mistakes. You have to decide what you can do it fix yours, Rory attempted to start fixing her mistakes by sending you that email."
Logan wanted to punch his best friend, yell at him that he was wrong, argue that Rory never acted like she wanted him, but he couldn't. The words sank in and he realized that Colin was right, both he and Rory had made a lot of mistakes. Neither were willing to talk through the hard things, neither told the other what they were thinking or want they wanted. They both walked away instead of fighting for them. He always wanted Rory, he needed her, she was the only one that ever made him feel like he could accomplish anything. He needed her to tell him she was proud of him. Fuck! he thought to himself I need her. I still love her more than anything but how can I fix this? How can we be together? Should we be together? Does she still want me? How can we work through our issues and being able to parent together… will she even let me in my kids life?
