Kacey and Max had been dating for a month. Kacey was asleep in her hotel room. Her alarm went off. She shut it off.
"Not yet." Max said tiredly beside her.
"We have get up Max."
"I want to cuddle."
"I know but you have a plane to fly." She got up. "I can't wait for you to meet my friend John tonight."
"So if I pass his test, do I get to keep dating you?" He said jokingly.
She laughed. "It's not a test I just want you two to meet."
"So he can size me up?
"No." "I have to shower."
"Can I join you?"
"We have to be quick."
"Ten minutes."
"Ok."
John was on a flight to Florida. Randy was sitting next to him.
"Do want to go out for a couple of beers after the show?" Randy asked
"I can't."
"Why?" "Is Kacey in town?" He asked smirking.
"Yes but we won't be doing anything." "I'm going out to dinner with her and her boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?"
"Yeah." She really likes this one."
"What's his name?"
"Max, I think."
"It must bother you."
"I've met her boyfriends before."
"Yeah but it must bother you that another guy's putting it to your girl."
"She's not my girl."
"I think I know why it doesn't bother you."
"Really, why?"
"You always know she'll come back." "I'd hate to break it to you dude, but one of these times, she's not coming back."
Later that night Kacey and Max were already at the restaurant when John got there.
"Hi John." She said.
"Hi." "You must be Max." John said looking at him.
"That's me." Max said. They shook hands. "It's nice to meet you."
"It's nice to meet you to."
John told Max stories about Kacey leaving out the ones that involved sex with her. They were all having a good time. Max got up to go to the bathroom. Kacey turned to John.
"What do you think?" She asked.
"He's a nice guy."
"It feels different John." "I could really see it going somewhere."
"I'm happy that you're happy."
"I am."
"Do you love him?"
"I think I do."
