POKEMON: LET'S GO

Episode 9: Second Chance At Pewter Gym

"After losing his first Gym Battle against Brock Chase worked hard on improving his strength. Now, he has a strategy and Pikachu has learned Iron Tail. Will he be able to defeat Brock in a rematch?"

Chase and Riley plan for the former's Gym Battle against Brock at the Pokemon Center. Elaine gives Pikachu and Eevee a cup cakes she made from Oran Berries, that will give energy to the former for the battle ahead. Nurse Joy calls Chase and hands him over his other Pokemon- Pidgey and Bulbasaur. Chase finds himself ready to go against Brock again and the group departs.

Elsewhere, Meowth explains his plan to steal Pokemon from the Gym to Jessie and James. He uses a blackboard to explain his plan. According to his plan, they would dig an underground tunnel that will lead them to the Gym's back room, where all of Brock's Pokemon are likely to be kept. Jessie and James find to be an excellent plan as they take up their shovels and start to dig.

On the other hand, Chase arrives at the Gym, challenging Brock for a rematch. Brock accepts it, saying he was expecting him to return. They take their positions on the battleground as Riley and Elaine head towards the stands. The referee explains the rules of the battle as before. Brock sends out Geodude and Chase sides with Pikachu. Brock tells him that he expects some sort of plan as he is again using Pikachu, despite of his type-disadvantage. Chase assures him that he does have a plan before the referee calls to start the battle. Elaine wishes Chase best of luck. Pikachu again begins with Thunderbolt which hits its mark again but remains ineffective. Geodude rushes in with Rollout. Pikachu dodges it and lands a strong Iron Tail, shocking Brock. However, he keeps his calm and commands for another Rollout. Pikachu again dodges and tries Iron Tail, but Geodude swiftly turns and launches to dodge it and hits Pikachu. He quickly regains composure and uses Quick Attack, dodging Geodude another forthcoming Rollout and getting away to a safe distance. As Geodude stops rolling, Pikachu jumps for another Iron Tail. Geodude uses Iron Defence to lower the impact of the attack. Geodude again begins Rollout, Pikachu swiftly dodges the move and uses Quick Attack. Both the Pokemon approach each other at a good speed, but Chase commands Pikachu to use Iron Tail at the last moment. The move lands to be a critical hit that is enough to defeat Geodude. Riley calls it a good move from Chase as the speed gained by Pikachu with Quick Attack helped increasing Iron Tail's impact.

Underground, Team Rocket digs a tunnel as per their plan. Jessie asks if they are near their destination. Meowth tells her that they are just a little away from their promotion. Meowth's words motivate Jessie and James and they begin digging again.

Brock calls his Geodude back and sends out Onix as his next Pokemon. Chase scans his Pokedex for it and finds it to be a powerful opponent. Brock asks Chase if he wants to switch his Pokemon. Chase finds Pikachu to be a little weary, so he switches out to Bulbasaur. Brock begins the battle by having Onix use Tackle. Bulbasaur answers with Razor Leaf, but Onix breaks through it hitting Bulbasaur. Chase commands Bulbasaur to use Vine Whip and Onix by its horn. Bulbasaur does so before using Rozor Leaf that directly hits Onix's face. Onix uses Rock Tomb, boulders form and fall all around Bulbasaur, hitting it hard and causing it to leave Onix. Onix then uses Dig and vanishes underground.

Team Rocket feels the ground shaking as they dig. They are surprised and scared as Onix passes behind them. Saved by a close shave, the frightened Team Rocket try to run back away as they have another close experience as Onix returns to surface, passing from their right.

Onix appears beneath Bulbasaur, landing a critical hit. This activated Bulbasaur's Overgrow ability. Riley reminds Chase that now Bulbasaur's Grass-type moves are stronger. Onix uses Rock Tomb, but Bulbasaur uses multiple Razor Leaf, destroying boulders around it. It again gets hold of Onix's horn by Vine Whip, but before it can do anything, Onix charges in with a Tackle attack, hitting its mark. Onix again digs in, brushing past Team Rocket. It returns to surface, leaving Team Rocket stunned, beneath Bulbasaur and defeats it. Riley remarks that Overgrow is useless if Bulbasaur can't hit Onix. Chase, shocked at Brock's strength, calls back Bulbasaur.

Underground, Team Rocket is surrounded by pits dug by Onix. Jessie and James charge on Meowth for putting them in such a danger. Meowth defends himself by explaining the need of getting out of the tunnel.

Chase shows trust on Pikachu, sending him against Onix. Brock has Onix start the battle with Rock Tomb. Pikachu uses Quick Attack, trying to dodge the boulders, but gets hit at last. Onix uses Dig, the ground around Team Rocket shakes and this time they are hit hard by their luck and Onix, blasting them off from the tunnel to the sky. Onix reappears beneath Pikachu and hits him. Chase thinks about ways to get closer to Onix so that Pikachu can use Iron Tail. Onix uses Rock Tomb. On Chase's command, Pikachu uses Quick Attack jumping from boulder to boulder and approaches Onix. However, Onix uses Bind and squeezes Pikachu. Pikachu uses Iron Tail all around to make space for itself and gets freed. The move surprises Brock. Onix uses Dig and goes underground. As Onix appears beneath Pikachu, he jumps, uses Iron Tail and lands a critical hit on his dog's face. Onix tries using Bind but Pikachu uses Quick Attack, climbing on its body and lands another Iron Tail on Onix's face. The large Pokemon falls to the ground and faints. Chase is declared the winner by the referee. Riley and Elaine go to Chase to congratulate him. Brock calls back Onix and approaches Chase too. He smiles, accepting being surprised by Chase's tactics. He gives Chase the BOULDER BADGE. Chase is overjoyed to have it, his first Gym Badge.

Next day, Elaine and Chase prepare to leave Pewter City. Riley comes running to them with a backpack. He insists on joining them on journey to which the duo agrees gladly. The episode ends as the trio leaves Pewter City, with Riley praising Chase for his performance against Brock, as Brock does not smile until he is greatly impressed.
