Once again we have an update! I'm glad to see the last chapter had you all on the edge of your seats and also...Happy belated New Year to you all and pray and hope that things can pick up for 2021, though I do have doubts...2020 does make you question life. Anyway without further delays in wanting to keep you hanging around any further, let's start!
Chapter 11
Peter's Confession
How could this have happened? In the years since his Uncle Ben first uttered those words that with great power brought great responsibility, Peter had stuck by those words to do the right thing and do whatever he could to help the city as Spider-Man.
Now he had done something truly horrible; he was certain that he had killed a man in cold blood, even if he were out to kill Peter's friend. Granted he still did not know if Kraven was truly dead but remembering how battered and bloodied the great hunter had looked before Peter had sent him to his presumably watery grave, it did seem a likely fate for him. With this, Peter was gripped by a wave of countless emotions either being of fear, shock, anger but strangely above all else, confusion.
Confusion as to why this had happened; why he'd done this, why only now Peter would perform something that would make his dear old uncle turn in his grave. As Felicia had already gone up ahead with a now, and thankfully de-lizard, Curt Connors towards the end of the sewers, Peter had to make the slow walk to find his way out.
That walk itself felt like one of the longest he'd ever taken and although he and Felicia might've completed the task that they had set themselves out for by saving Curt Connors, that now paled in comparison to what had transpired. How was he going to explain this to his wife? God, Peter was awash with shame and he glanced down at the black Symbiote suit still gripping him tightly and he swore that he felt that somehow it was staring up at him.
Why do you feel grief?
Peter's fists tightened out of anger as he walked along the sewer pathways hearing that voice in his head.
"Don't you know what happened? I killed someone!" Peter snarled angerly with it slowly dawning on that the Symbiote must have had something to do with this.
You do mean that we ended his pitiful life!
"I can't believe you're saying this!" Peter replied a gasped.
But didn't you want the power?
"Yes, b-but not like this!"
You fool! You dare to disregard after what I have given you? Maybe your beloved mate shall make a better host.
"Leave Felicia out of this!" Peter snapped, his anger now getting the better of him again. Just what the Symbiote was wanting.
Yeesss, let your anger flow. You know you cannot resist such power!
It was all becoming too much for him. As soon as he heard the voice deliberately trying to manipulate him, Peter with a cry of anger sent a curled fist punching at a concrete wall that was hit with such force that it left a deep indent on the wall and that wasn't including the fact that Peter never felt any pain when he hit it. Something that was not possible before he found the Symbiote.
As he tried taking deep breaths to try and calm himself down though Peter could hear the voice in his head chuckling at his current situation.
There you are, Parker. Such power I have given you. Why would you want to throw it away without a second thought?
Peter didn't say anything and as he walked off again seeing that he was now not far from the entrance of the sewers, he felt the Symbiote affecting his mindset yet again. This time one of not hate but of lust with the mindset focused on one Felica Parker.
"What are trying to screw with me now this time?" Peter groaned feeling annoyed for some reason now.
That wasn't me, you did that yourself thinking of her…
Peter rolled his eyes. "Don't lie to me, I know you want Felicia to have the Symbiote on her too…I don't think she will after what I've just done."
Then find another then. Surely more worthy than that woman if you say so.
The brunette would've called out the voice in his head with so many curse words under the sun, but he was so pissed off as well as being horrified at what he had done that he didn't bothered to reply and he walked on in silence for a good few minutes until he found the quite literally light at the end of the tunnel which was his way out of this horrible place.
At the other end, he could see Black Cat crouching down by the wounded but nonetheless human again Curt Connors lying up against the wall of the tunnel entrance as Black Cat was trying to give him some medical attention by trying to bandage up his wounds. Upon seeing Spider-Man appearing on her left, Black Cat smiled up at her husband.
"Peter! Are you ok?"
"Uh, yeah, fine, we're ok," he replied before looking down at Curt and letting his mask roll back to reveal her face and Curt's eye narrowed trying to adjust to the sight.
"Peter…how?" Curt uttered.
Felicia gave her husband a 'go-tell-him' look and Peter knew there was not point hiding anything and ended up tell Curt about the Spider bite on that school trip, the many times he was late and how he met Felicia.
"Good God," Curt muttered as he was trying to take this all in. "I mean…this does answer a lot of questions but…what's with the suit? Isn't it supposed to be red and blue?"
Peter sighed knowing what his former teacher's reaction was going to be. "Well sir…just to let you know, this…is the Symbiote."
Cue a shocked Curt Connors who's eyes widened in horror. "Peter! What the hell were you thinking of taking it?!"
"It didn't happen like that!" Peter replied. "It just sort of…happened."
How else would you explain it, Parker?
"How so?" Curt asked.
The Symbiote clad hero gave his wife a brief nervous look knowing that it possibly wasn't right to talk about what happened that night regarding it was also on the night when Curt transformed. Nonetheless he knew he had to explain himself. "It was that night when you, um, transformed."
"We were trying to stop a raid on the university," Felicia added. "Though it did seem we got more than we bargained for. Seems during all the fighting the Symbiote must have got out and, well, there you are." She looked over at Peter while Curt was looking more nervous at the Symbiote.
"How is it affecting you?" Curt eyed him up. "You feel anything not normal?"
"Just being stronger I guess," Peter admitted though his hesitant tone was easily picked up by Curt who was determined to make sure that his former student was not going to end up in a horrible place. He proberly felt wise not to talk about a voice in his head.
"Peter don't think I can tell that you have doubts otherwise. I can tell something is not right. No, what am I saying? You can't let that thing get the better of you!"
Curt groaned in pain at one of his wounds and Felicia quickly tried to dab it with one of the clean cloths she had in the duffel bag. As she managed to ease some of the pain from Curt, a thought came to her she was wanting to know since she had left her husband to fend of Kraven.
"Peter, what happened with Kraven?"
The brunette bit his bottom lip; this was something he most certainly wanted to avoid but knew there was no way around it, he'd have to tell her but how? The Symbiote though had other thoughts.
Tell them that that foolish hunter now lies in a watery grave!
Peter was really starting to hate the voice in his mind more than ever and Felicia was looking up at him waiting for his answer and a long silence followed that was awkward to say the least. However luckily for Peter, Curt let out another cry of pain and this was a good excuse to get the attention of him.
"Dr Connors! We need to get you to a hospital now!" Peter said as he let the Symbiote mask on him return to cover him while Black Cat helped him the doctor back to his feet for them to make their mission to find a nearby hospital in the area.
As they finally stepped out of the darkness and into the open air of the tunnel, Peter held the wounded doctor close to as he and Black Cat began to swing away from the sewers to a hospital nearby and Spider-Man glanced down at the badly wounded Curt Connors and in a brief moment a serious consideration was brought to his mind of using the Symbiote powers to help heal Curt like what the Symbiote had done to Peter before but he quickly shook this off; he had enough on his plate already.
Fortunately, it didn't take them long to find a nearby hospital and as the superhero pair swung down with the injured scientist, two ambulance men who were just so happening to be chatting to each other by their vehicle looked up and were stunned to see the city's two crime fighters landing near them.
"S-Spider-Man!" One of the men spluttered before looking at Curt. "What's going on?!"
"This man needs medical help now!" Spider-Man answered rather curtly; clearly, he didn't want to lose another person he looked up to die like the others…
The other man scrambled round to the back of the ambulance to pull out a wheelchair and wheeled it round to allow Curt Connors to be seated before they quickly rushed him into the hospital and in that moment, some comfort washed over the pair knowing that their mission to save Curt Connors. The only hope though was that he could create a cover story about the Lizard and not reveal who Spider-Man and Black Cat were. That said though, there still was that elephant in the room question for Peter…
"Tell me, Peter. Where's Kraven?" Black Cat demanded.
Spider-Man glanced over at a small and curious crowd of onlookers who weren't expecting to see them right there in the flesh and this clearly wasn't the best place to let out a shocking confession.
"Better if I tell you at home, it's serious."
His wife eyed him suspiciously and sensing that something was off with him, she hmphed in agreement before the two launched a web line of grappling hook respectably and began the swing back towards their home in which all the way back, Peter could feel his stomach twisting in knots. He already was feeling guilty yet one voice in his head did not…
Oh, for goodness sake. Why are you acting like this? You got rid of that waste of space of a human though if you ask me you should've let that monster die in that sewer too rather than saving him!
"The only monster is me," Peter uttered to himself.
When shall you let your mate feel this power in which then we'll all become one?
"For God's sake," Spider-Man hissed. "Have I already told you that Felicia won't be brought into this?"
But I thought you wanted her to feel the power? Or have you utterly lost your backbone, coward?
Peter didn't know if the Symbiote was deliberately trying to take itself of Peter (most unlikely) though if it was, it was making a damn good job of it. After much swinging for about fifteen minutes since then left the hospital, they arrived at their penthouse and from the moment Peter landed on that balcony, there was no turning back to hide from what he had done.
As they entered, Felicia flicked on the light switch in illuminate the living room before she removed her mask and finally flopping down on their leather couch. Peter let the Symbiote mask rolled back off his face and he gave Felicia a look of worry and the platinum blonde woman looked up at him and could read him like a book.
"Alright Peter, what's happened?"
"How do you know?" Peter asked.
"Being married to you, a wife always has to know how her husband always ticks and I can always tell when something is wrong with you." Felicia straightened herself up from the couch and placed her hands on her lap. "So what happened to Kraven?"
Peter placed his hands on his hips and was almost ashamed looking at her. With a sigh, he began. "Look, Kraven was…I did something bad, really bad."
Peter glanced up briefly to see a wary expression from Felicia. "After you left with Curt and I started fighting Kraven I…I just got…mad. Crazy. I don't know what came over me then…"
"Go on," Felicia instructed, her lips drawn in a tight line that made in hard to tell how she was feeling.
"I just beat him into a bloody pulp," Peter shuddered rubbing a hand through his hair. "His face was all bloody, he looked like death and when he was at his weakest point, he…well. Damn it…" Peter covered his hands over his face and shuddered as he was about to drop the bombshell of news on his wife. "I…I threw him over the edge and into the water…I've let a man die!"
There was a stunned silence and a guilt-ridden Peter Parker fell on a leather chair opposite of the couch and he hung his head low placing it in his hands and had all the look of a man absolutely broken. No one knew what to say or even if anything should have been said for what Peter had said.
Without saying anything, Felicia slowly stood up and walked over to her husband before kneeling to place her hand on his cheek to raise his head up to make sure they faced eye to eye. Peter's eyes were filled with tears though as he looked back his wife, he couldn't quite tell what Felicia was thinking from that strange expression of hers. Was it anger? Sadness? Horror? Grief?
Then she finally spoke. "It's the Symbiote, Peter. It's using you!"
Peter didn't know what to say to that, who was she angry with? "Felicia, I killed someone!"
"You didn't kill anyone, that thing did, and you have nothing to do with this! The Peter Parker I knew would never kill anyone and the Peter I know was a man who help me lead me away from a life of crime and for acting as a hero for the city."
Her husband was taken aback. Why was she sympathetic to him after the horrible act he had just done? Granted any husband would have been greatly thankful for the large amount of forgiveness that Felicia could be capable of, but Peter was still feeling horrible about this. How did he deserve this?
"Felicia don't you get it?!" Peter cried out as he stood up. "I let myself go over the edge, it's my fault in all this!"
His wife was not going to give up though and stood up to stare him right in the eye. "No Peter, listen! The Symbiote did all that. Granted I don't know what that thing is capable of, but I know that the man I married would never do such a thing. As I said before, that Symbiote is the real murderer here!"
At this point, any man would have probably fallen to their knees with relief that they seemed to be forgiven, but Peter was a man who just did not seem like one who could ever forgive himself. He couldn't quite tell if his own thoughts were making him feel so awful of if the Symbiote had decided to mess with his feelings to enlarge the problem further, either way he was not in a good state of mind.
"But this Symbiote is my responsibility!" Peter retorted. "If I learnt how to control myself this would never had happened!"
Oh, spare us the useless tears, Parker.
That did it. The voice in his head only tipped him over the edge and in his cry of anger, he grabbed one of the table lamps by the couch and threw it across the room with such force that not only did it shatter into hundreds of pieces, but it even left a dent in the white walls if that was even possible.
The couple were both wide eyed at what had happened, and Peter's face was white as a sheet. With one finally sad look at his shocked wife, Peter let the Symbiote cover his face up and he made a dash towards the balcony to begin a web swing away from their home.
"Peter, come back!" Felicia cried out as she tried to stop him from leaving, alas it was no good as thanks to his sudden burst of speed, Peter had all but vanished by the time Felicia rushed onto the balcony and could only helplessly stare at the surrounding city to find any trace of her runaway husband.
"God damn, Peter!" Felicia groaned loudly as she rested one arm on the barrier and let her other hand cover her face in anguish.
Did she say something to send him running or was he so horrified at what had happened that it was pretty much all but impossible to try and reason with him? Now she was filled with horrible thoughts herself, was the Symbiote about to take control of him even more to the point he would not have any moral compass or perhaps even worse…end it all?
How she wished she had attached some sort of homing device on her husband to know where he was going, but even finding the only person who had spider abilities in this whole city who could web swing was going to be impossible no matter how hard she looked. Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard thunder and the clouds were evident that it was going to rain later the evening and the last rays of the day were disappearing over the horizon.
As foolish as it might have sounded, the only hope she had of Peter returning was if New York were about to experience a downpour of torrent rain and he would have little choice but to return. With a sad sigh and looking resigned to the fact that there seemed nothing she could do, she walked back into the penthouse and pondered what else could she do.
Maybe was there someone else to help Peter see sense that it wasn't his fault? Then it all clicked, and her eyes widened as she felt foolish of not thinking about this before. One person who had yet to know of Peter's secret identity and pretty much deserved to know it more than anyone else. Felicia smiled as only one word slipped from her mouth.
"May."
XXX
"Damn, looks like a bad one this evening."
"You mean a rainstorm?"
"Yep, if I were you, I'd probably get back home before it gets worse…or wish to stay I don't mind"
Inside a small, crummy and earthy bar, a barman was chatting to a female customer by the bar bannister. They had been getting to know each other pretty well and it looked like if the woman was going to be stuck here due to the weather, the barman wasn't exactly going to complain about it.
The barman then looked over to someone sitting a few chairs away from the girl was on his third drink since he walked into the bar and hadn't said much in all this time. Knowing his unspoken rule of helping people with their problems like with any bar owner, the man could tell that the man drinking away there was clearly giving off signs that all was not well.
"Excuse me Lizzie, some guy needs some help," the barman excused the woman before walking over to the man who glanced up seeing he had an uninvited guest. "You alright, bud?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, whatever," the man grumbled as he took another swig of his drink.
"Come on man, I can tell there's something up, what's your name?" No comment from the man. "Alright, fine. I'll start things off, my name's Jamie Fergusson. You are…?"
The other man let out a sigh and rolled his eyes. "Eddie…that's all." The man was of course Eddie Brock but knowing how most of the city was aware of the hoax that had try to pull, he was now trying to keep low of being noticed by any members of the public.
Jamie smiled. "Alright, good. Broke the ice there. Anyway, a barman always wants to help someone's problem and I can tell you have problems going on, maybe I can help?"
Eddie let out a sarcastic chuckle. "Oh really? I doubt you can help me out here."
"Try me then."
"Fine," Eddie sighed. "I was fired from work, screwed over by another employee."
He wasn't lying per say, he just left out the important detail that he had tried to pull of a hoax that ultimately led to his downfall, nonetheless Jamie seem to believe Eddie. "Damn, sorry buddy. You have my sympathies. Any idea what to do now?"
"Haven't a clue," Eddie muttered as he drummed his fingers on the side of his half drunken glass. "Guess I just have to sit tight until some inspiration happens."
"Drinking away your sorrows won't help," Jamie pointed out. "But there is one idea if you want to look for inspiration…go to church." Eddie eyed the barman with suspicion, but Jamie carried on speaking. "No, no I'm not some religious nutjob saying everyone is a sinner and all that, I'm just saying that going to church might help you find something that you're looking for."
"You mean like an answer for my questions? How"
"As strange as it sounds, pretty much. I know it sounds out of left field, but it did me well. I was on my lowest point like you are right now and I went to church one night pretty much out of being desperate. I don't know what happened, but I found something that gave me inspiration and that started me rebuilding my life and look…I opened this bar up."
Eddie glanced round the bar; granted it was quite a grubby place that normally the wrong sort of crowd would hang around in, but nonetheless it did make him think that maybe, just maybe, he could still turn this all around. Could it be done? It was a long shot but what did he have to lose after his reputation was pretty much all but down the gutter?
Without much second thought, he downed the last of his drink and headed towards the door much to the surprise of Jamie.
"Uh, sir. The weather's going to get bad." Jamie called out.
"I'll be fine," Eddie replied with looking back before opening the door and heading out onto the city streets to wherever it was he was going to.
Despite the sudden nature of his departure, Jamie shrugged his shoulders and headed back towards the woman he had been speaking to earlier to carry on where they'd left off from. However little did he know as he was speaking to the woman known as Lizzie, had he known what was going to happen next he would most likely not have said any advice to anything to Eddie. Things were about to take a turn for the worse.
Oh no! I think you might all have an idea of what will happen next. So yeah, I bet some of you weren't expecting to see Felicia aim the blame at the Symbiote and not Peter. I think she would know by now that the Symbiote had a mind of it's own and the actions that happened to Kraven were so OOC for Peter. Anyway, time to read your reviews:
Jay Youngblood - Yeah, think we're all shocked seeing Peter do that, however it seems like Felicia has other ideas in thinking that the Symbiote has a part to play in this as we see here.
nataku2709 - I suspect after what's happened that might not exactly be a thing but anything can happen I suppose!
Akira-Hayama - You were have right about Felicia, though she is more of a grounded voice of reason here which I know might sound a little bit OOC but I guess a married life does that to you. It does seem that a strain has happened though it's more of Felicia putting blame on the Symbiote rather than Peter which I think works more of a good twist, she would known this was not Peter doing this.
NeoTyson - Happy (late) Christmas to you and Happy New Year as well! It seems that the Symbiote is on the verge of taking over Peter but it looks as though Felicia might have just done enough to save her man from going down a dark path but is it too late?
A guy with a big imagination - You want to write a version of Spider-Man 3? Would like to see that but if to ask me if I could write a version of it in my universe? Mmm, would have to see your story first but I have enough to write at the moment but I would like to see what you have in mind.
Anyway the next update will be the final chapter of Alien Territory which I think most of you will like. Anyway before I go, do you think Kraven survived and if so, what will he do next? Until then, stay safe. leave lots of nice reviews and catch you all later!
