It really hit me how similar he is to Miroku what with his curse, powers and status... not identical but kindred spirits none the less. I like that even if Miroku is my least favorite main character...

Brian sensed the power of the others before he entered the small shack they were taking residence in. They radiated powerful lifeforce, though one was weakened greatly. He sensed two other forces, demonic in nature, though not of great stature. He figured they were Shippo and Kirara, the two demons Kagome had told him had joined them on their quest. He was oddly excited with the whole scenario, meeting them added to that feeling. Who would have guessed that one day he would meet many demons, several of them good beings? He never would have guessed that such a path would ever be possible for him and yet here it was.

Kagome was the first to enter the shack, a smile on her face as she said. " Sango, Kirara, we're here with your medicine."

Happily they all entered the room, and he saw the new people. First and foremost was a handsome young monk in a purple set of robes. He had a staff in one hand and a hand print on his face. He looked almost supernaturally happy. Getting closer to him as he entered the room, Brian sensed a subtle demonic presence which he presumed was the Wind tunnel as well as the Monk's strong but low spiritual powers. They were no where near as potent as Kagome's but they were impressive and had a flow that Kagome's just didn't, a sign of his mastery of his powers Brian presumed.

Then there was Sango, laying on her back, signs of injury covering her muscular body. He could see wounds on both of her arms and both shoulders. He knew there was more, the healer in him was horrified to see them and he wondered what had been done to patch her up safely. He knew she would be a frequent patient of his, he could just feel it. However what drew his attention most of all was the sheer Chi in her body, it was almost on par with his own, and as far as he knew she wasn't a witch... maybe there was something to her heritage as a demon slayer? He'd look into that another time.

Then there was Shippo, an adorable little fox demon with the cutest poofy tail and little fox feet. His aura wasn't that powerful but from what he knew about Fox Demons, they possessed a knack for illusions, natural magic and fire based spells. He might become a healer one day, something Brian would keep in mind.

Kirara, the tiny little kitty, was the last focus and he wanted to squeeze her into a hug but refrained himself. Kagome said her true form was that of a large Saber toothed beast that could rip him to shreds... so, not exactly safe to cuddle with.

"Kagome, your back... and you brought a friend?" Sango frowned at him, her gaze sharp as it was concerned.

The Priestess looked stunned. "Oh that's right, everyone this is Brian. He's from my time! He's a powerful sorcerer and priest, he helped us fight a demon when we went to get the herbs for Kirara. He can heal her and Sango too!"

Their eyes went wide, but it was Miroku who spoke first. "A sorcerer you say, and from your time... but I thought magic wasn't practiced in your time Kagome?"

Not liking being talked about, Brian stepped forward then kneeled before Sango. "I am from her time, but when I was brought here a priest taught me how to use Chi and Spiritual energy. I focused mainly on healing, barriers, sutra and sensory magic so I would be of the most use. It was strange to come from my time, where there was nothing, no trace of demons or the like, and end up here... but I adapted.

Now, if you don't mind Sango, may I see your wounds? Kagome come around and help me, your energy will be of a great help to my magic."

His orders were clear and strong enough that even Sango obeyed them, shedding her blanket and the top part of her shirt just as the other males left the room. He saw the extent of the damage and knew she would always have scars. The wounds were deep and they oozed a thin veil of weak miasma, a demonic presence that was hindering the healing of her wounds. He knew she was probably very weak and would be for some time without his help...

"What do you need me to do?" Kagome asked, looking determined and confident.

He just smiled at her. "The wounds are deep but not terribly so, mainly we need to extract and purify the miasma in her wounds. They are slowing down her healing and sapping her vitality. Put your hands over mine and pray for her salvation, for her recovery but do not allow your passion to run wild. She needs purity and healing to be focused."

"I understand."

Placing his hands over the wounds, Brian started to hum a lullaby. It was a simple song, one he had heard at a friend's house. He had found that humming songs were easier then chanting as he had trouble memorizing the words. Really as long as you could focus on the spell with a vocalization it was enough. As he hummed he focused on the Chi in the air, in the earth, in the wood of the shack. The power of life coursing through the world and the veil that covered it...

Slowly it started to fill him, shifting to his hands where it glowed a soft silver. Kagome's powers joined, twisting into it and adding warmth and power to his spell. He felt the spell latch onto Sango and her weakened body, drawn like a water to a sponge, she soaked in it perfectly. He felt the strain of healing her immediately as the miasma tried to fight back. On his own it would have sapped his strength and slowed down the healing considerably, but with Kagome's immense well of strength he burned right through the poison and his power penetrated into her flesh.

His fingers move, trailing over her injured body, the silver light dipping as he reached a new wound or particularly deep cut or a source of thicker Miasma. He wasn't sure how long his spell took, the injuries were many and they were poisoned but slowly he made progress. He could feel the Miasma fighting against him, but with each attempt he blasted it with power and pushed through it. Eventually he finished, falling back onto his back when he finished, wheezing long and hard.

"Are you okay?" Sango's strong arms wrapped around him, pulling him upwards where he was forced to look at her in the face. Her color had returned, leaving her practically peachy and with a serious look of concern on her face.

"It's exhausting, I am drawing on the world for power but the strain and mental exhaustion is a serious toll. I like healing, I feel useful but boy does it make me tired."

Sango smiled. "It worked wonders, I feel amazing. Stronger then I have since... well in a while." Her quiet was telling and he knew he was missing details. "Can you take care of Kirara as well or do you need to rest first?"

"Rest would be nice, but yes... give her the herbs first, and take them yourself as you too were exposed. It will help get rid of any miasma I may have missed. I am still new at this... to be honest if it wasn't for Kagome helping me I wouldn't have healed you as much as I did. The Miasma, though weaker, was still strong enough to resist the magic. You should be fine but you'll be weak for a few day still, I only healed your wounds I didn't heal the bloodloss or the effects the poison had on your body. I would eat a lot of meat and green leafy vegetables to bolster your blood. Lots of water too."

Sango nodded, a happy smile on her face. "I will listen well, really you have done me a great service. I will not forget it."

"If you want, you can be my sparring partner. " That caught Sango off guard, then her eyes turned to his staff.

"Oh you want to improve with your staff? It is not my primary weapon but I am more then familiar, as is Miroku. The Monk is remarkably skilled with a staff, I am sure we can manage."

It was his turn to smile. "I have only been training in both magic and with my bo staff for seven months. I have some skill, enough to hold my own but I have more then enough room to grow. Speaking off, I agreed to fight Inuyasha to get him to train with his sword and spiritual powers. I could tell from his stance he has little practice with a blade."

"I noticed the same but I didn't think it was my place to say anything."

"Please, if you see any such issues with my style please say something. A wounded ego is better then a wounded body."

That made Sango nod. " I agree."

"I am glad your feeling better Sango." Kagome said, smiling happily at the two of them before looking at her two hands. "I still can't believe I did that! It felt amazing, I could feel the Miasma fighting against us and I just pushed against it. I have never felt so helpful."

"Your not a weak priestess Kagome, with training you will be deadly and helpful in all ways that matter." Brian groaned as he shifted his body, moving to pick up Kirara who mewled into his body. "Now is your turn, have enough juice for another healing Kagome?"

The girl just smirked before leaning over, hands at the ready, eager for the new challenge.

Nobody noticed the small smirk on Brian's face as he wedged himself into the group. 'There is no way I will not survive, with a group of powerful allies like this... screw you demonic infection, warring states era... I will not stand idly by and die for you. I will fight back with all I have and thrive. I have pushed firmly into this group both as a teacher and a healer and now with this new power I will thrive... nothing will stop me from living now... Nothing.'

Miroku didn't like change, he was too comfortable with the familiarity of life. It anchored him, especially with the horrors of the curse on him. "Say, Inuyasha, can we trust this Brian?"

His friend frowned. "I think so, why do you ask, you jealous he's more powerful then you?"

A little, but Miroku wouldn't admit that. "No, but it does seem strange that just when we need a healer we happen to find one."

"The timings definitely off but I won't look a gift horse in the Mouth, besides, he had a letter from Kaede. I recognize her writing, she trusts him and that's enough for me."

Sighing, Miroku nodded. "I guess... but do me a favor and keep your eye on him."

"Already on it."

Chapter end, tell me what you think.

My first chapter on my new laptop! I love this story so freaking much.

Do you like Brian's motive of survival being the true reason he wants to join their group? I like the selfishness but it might change as he bonds with the group.

I wanted to make Brian able to be on his own and do well but thrive on a team.

Love, your Ninja Overlord,

Mika.
