Song: Ariana Grande - Safety Net

Dabi has been at Sirens place for two days straight, and while Siren was happy she was very unsure what it meant. Her confession was never brought up and besides eating, sleeping and having sex the few conversations they had consisted of normal topics.

It was almost three in the morning and Siren had left the warmth of Dabi in her bed to sit in her studio and work on her next song. She was actually nervous about this next one, more so then she was with her first video.

This song was going to focus on a part of her past that no one knows about. She never even told Sean about what happened to her before he took her in, and he never stressed the issue.

Placing the oversized headphones over her ears, she booted up the computer and instead of writing out the lyrics first, like she normally did, she decided to start with the beat. Most of what she wanted to say was already there in her head, she just needed the music to match the tone of what she was going for.

Siren worked until after sunrise listening to the same chords over and over and over again. She was having a hard time with this song and she wasn't sure if it was because she was doing her usual method backwards or because of the subject matter. She paused the beat and took the headphones off her head. Sighing heavily she sat back in the computer chair and closed her eyes as she stretched her limbs. She tried not to think about the past that still haunted her dreams and reopened her eyes slowly. She noticed something out of the corner of her eye and turned quickly to the doorway.

Dabi was leaning against the frame watching her intently. He was wearing his shirt, boxers and jeans as he walked into the room and stood next to her. Looking at the mixing board Siren could see that he was intrigued.

Unplugging the headphones Siren grabbed the mouse, saved her current work and scrolled through the saved files. She found the one she was looking for and pressed play.

The drums started at ten seconds into the song and the guitar picked up right after that. Dabi instantly found himself nodding his head to the music. This was more his style, which of course she was able to figure out.

"This sounds nothing like your other stuff."

"That's because this is for the band I'm a part of," "I've never seen you perform with anyone else let alone a live band," "That's because we go by the name Nowhere Kids. We haven't performed together in three years…hell we haven't even kept in touch until recently." He grabbed the other computer chair as he sat down. "I can't see you singing to this," he said quickly. "Why, because I'm a woman?" "No, it's the overall tone of the song-" "Listen to you sounding like you know what you're talking about," Siren giggled at her joke.

"But you're not one hundred percent wrong. Vocally I would normally have AJ take a song like this but that's only because I wasn't ready to put myself out there like that. But this time I want to hit the audience with the shock of a lifetime."

Dabi starred at Siren and he could see the fire in her eyes. Whatever she was about to do put a huge smile on her face and Dabi couldn't help but to smirk.

"Whatever you do is definitely gonna turn some heads." She smiled at the statement that doubled as a compliment.

"You know, you actually have a very sexy voice," he looked at her as she continued "I remember you said you've never sang in public, but…I know you could turn some heads yourself if you actually gave it a shot."

"So that's what it is?" "What what is?"

"The reason you like me," Siren laughed "There's much more to it than that." They where interrupted by the sound of a phone ringing. Siren knew right away it wasn't her phone so she watched as Dabi pulled his phone from his pocket and silenced the call.

He opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted yet again by his phone. With a heavy sigh he answered it this time. "What?" Siren did her best to ignore the brief conversation.

"Fine, I'm on my way," he said after a minute of silence as he hung up the phone. Siren turned to him and waited.

"I have to go," "When will you be back?" She asked too quickly.

"Not sure," she poked out her lip in a pout and he chuckled. He stood from the chair and left without another word and Siren listened as the front door to her apartment opened and closed.

Siren felt a rush of inspiration for a new song and stood to go to her bedroom for her latest notebook of lyrics so she could write down everything that was flowing into her.

It was going on noon when Sirens phone rang, showing an overseas number she answered on the second ring. "Hello?"

"I'll do the album," it was Sabine, this was a bit of a surprise, "But…I need you on my next single. I didn't want to ask you, but no one else wants to do it-" "Why would someone turn down a song from you? Your last album was really good."

They had seen each other at the brief meetup of the group members in America but Siren kept it professional and only discussed the possibilities of doing a fourth album. Sabine and herself where the only ones that were hesitant about the situation.

Siren was hesitant because of her already loaded down schedule, and Sabine was hesitant because of Siren. "…Thanks, but the problem is that my first single for my second album isn't selling so well and I was about to hit them with this dope track but no one wants to take a risk with me…it also might have something to do with the lyrics," "Let me guess, is it too sexual or too violent?" "Very sexual, they said I'll have to do a radio edited version or it won't be able to play." Siren sighed into the phone "If you can't do it just say so," "That's not it…play the song for me and I'll give you an answer." She heard silence and then slight rustling before the bass dropped at the beginning of the song.

The beat was simple but infectious and once Sabine started rapping it was apparent right away that this song was intended for a very specific audience. The song wasn't just about sex, oh, no, the chorus alone was about her pussy. It was raunchy as hell and Siren was smiling as it ended.

"Well?"

"I'll do it, if I can add my own verse," "I guess that's only fair…Thanks, for doing this Siren," "Don't thank me just yet. I personally love the song but we're both older now and you know what it means once you officially put yourself out there like that," "Yes I do" "Then there's nothing else to say about it. I'll let the guys know that we came to an agreement and we'll schedule a video conference to hash out the details of this album. Man I'm gonna be busy as hell," she finished in an exasperated tone. "What else is new? Even as kids you where always doing something. Scribbling in your notebook, making beats, dance lessons-" "Is that why you never liked me?" Siren interrupted with sarcasm. "I didn't like you when we where kids because of your attitude and the fact that you where so popular in the industry. And then we're supposed to be a group and they put you front and center on the posters and CD's while we got smaller and pushed to the background." Siren waited for Sabine to continue.

"But…after Seans' funeral AJ told me that it was all the labels doing putting you out in front, that you told him you where happy being a part of a group. I realized just how much the label manipulated us back then," "You can say that again. That's why I'm an independent artist now," "Are you actually making money though?" "You worried about me?" "Hn, never."

Siren smiled at the unfamiliarity of having a normal conversation with Sabine of all people. When the group first started there was animosity between Sabine and Siren from the moment they met. Sabine only made her dislike more apparent as time passed. Especially when the label started making Siren 'The Leader' Sabine started making snarky comments to her face instead of behind her back. She never lashed out physically but had they continued the way they where it would have been inevitable. Just another reason why Siren left the group.

Siren could have easily stayed in the group, even with the disagreements, because deep down they all knew that they had become a family. And as the only girls in the group that made them sisters, and sisters fight. At least that's how Siren rationalized it all in her head. The true dynamics of a functional family was not something she was familiar with.

"I'm not making anything off of my singles but once people noticed that I was back in the game I started getting calls about writing for other artists and doing songs for movies and shows. I get a good amount from that and I have a normal-well not normal but I have a job that pays well and some savings but I plan to make some money with my first solo album. It won't be much but it will be something."

"Why didn't you just restart your career here in America where you already have the largest fan base?"

"I wanted a challenge," "Seriously?!"

"No…I wasn't sure if I'd ever make music for other people to hear again but…I don't know. I guess America just doesn't feel like home to me anymore." "And Japan does?" "Yeah, I think so."

"Well I can't lie the industry was getting pretty dull without you…oh by the way they're playing one of your songs on the radio now," "Really? Which one?" "Ruins," "That's a bit of a surprise, but I'm happy none the less. Thanks for telling me Sabine, I'll save your number and talk to you soon gotta get back to work," "Bye Siren."

It has been two weeks since Siren last saw Dabi. She didn't want to text him for fear that he wouldn't respond and that would send her into a tailspin of terrible thoughts. 'I knew I shouldn't have confessed, he's probably ghosting me and never planning on coming back,' her mind rationalized.

At the same time she wanted to know for sure so she could move on if that was the case. 'But what if he's busy? Caught up with work? A family emergency? Anything could be going on in his life right now and I wouldn't even know.'

"You okay Siren?" Came the voice of Hana snapping Siren from her thoughts. She looked at the mirror in front of her and realized that she was in the process of putting on her makeup for her shift at The Den.

"Yeah I'm fine, just thinking about some things." Siren busied herself by putting on the red lipstick that was in front of her. "Do those things include your boyfriend?" Hana asked unexpectedly causing Siren to flinch slightly and clam up. Her silence was enough of an answer for Hana.

"Wanna talk about it after work? We could grab some cheap food and beer,"

"I would love to Hana but tonight I think I'm going to try to catch up on my sleep," "Working too much?" "Yeah, I've been putting in overtime on my music."

This was very true. Siren was working so hard lately finishing up her own album, trying to redo a previously written album and trying not to think about a certain handsome devil. All this plus her insomnia had come back with a vengeance.

"I get it. But seriously if you still can't sleep and you do want to talk, you can always call me."

"Thanks Hana."

Siren was walking to her apartment as the snow came down in a light flurry. It must've started awhile ago because there was already a few inches on the ground. Bad enough it was cold, but add snow and Siren was out of her element. Thankfully she had dressed warm in a pair of grey sweater leggings and a black sweater dress that hugged her curves and stopped at her knees. Over that she wore a black bomber jacket with a white beanie covering the top of her head and a pair of black military style boots to complete the look.

She was still a few blocks from her place as she stopped at a cross walk and waited for the signal. The light changed and Siren continued her walk to the apartment. As she approached a twenty four hour convenience store the chime of the doors could be heard as someone left the store and stopped right in her path. "Siren! Long time no see!" Hawks waved at her with a bag in hand.

Siren waved back, "Yeah, how ya been?" "Same old, same old. Can't complain though, you?"

"Eh, just been busy as hell. Although I'm glad I ran into you. Still wanna be in one of my videos?" Siren had a song that she wanted to put out awhile ago but she'd honestly forgotten about it with all the recent events.

"Is that even a question?! Definitely, what you got in mind?" "Well-um…do you mind if we talk about this later? I'm freezing my ass off here," She shivered as a chill hit her spine.

"Want me to give you a ride back to your place? It'll be faster than walking."

"When you say ride, you mean-" "Of course," she blinked a few times as she starred at his wings.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious," "Just put your arms around my neck and hold on tight, but not too tight." She stepped closer to him and tentatively put her arms around his neck and he quickly picked her up bridal style.

Before she knew it they where in the air and she was above the buildings as they flew in the direction of her apartment. The air was colder as they moved at a decent pace but Siren was too happy to care. It was absolutely thrilling being like this, feeling so free. She could imagine doing this in the spring when the weather was perfect and the sun was out to warm her skin.

Hawks could see the smile on her face and actually felt her relax slightly in his arms. Never in his life had someone trusted him so quickly in flight before. A smile formed on his face as he landed on his feet in front of Sirens apartment building. He set her down and her arms stayed around his neck for a moment as they faced each other, noses only an inch or so away from each other.

Both of their cheeks had a slight blush but neither was sure if it was from the cold or something else. Either way before she knew what she was doing Siren spoke up "We should go inside," "After you."

They sat on the couch, drank the beer that Hawks had bought and talked about Sirens idea for the music video. Hawks didn't understand it all, but if Siren said it was going to be great he had no choice but to trust her.

"When can we shot it?" "I have some free time this coming weekend," "That's perfect I'm off on Sunday," "That'll work." Siren looked off to the side and Hawks say the look in her eyes change from happy to sad. Something was bothering her, she'd been off since they ran into each other at the store. Hawks wasn't the most perceptive guy in the world but he'd be an idiot not to notice that look.

"Something on your mind?" He asked genuinely curious.

"…No, just tired," she answered with a yawn. "It is pretty late, I'll get out of here and let you get some sleep," he stood from the couch, "Before you go," she held out her phone to him "I'll need to be able to contact you," he nodded and grabbed the device, "Right, probably should've done this the last time." He typed in his phone number and handed it back to Siren.

"Thanks," she immediately saved the number to her contacts and sent him a quick text. Hawks nodded in response and made his way to the door. Siren stood and followed him so she could lock it after him.

He stepped into his shoes and turned to her fully "See ya Sunday," she smiled softly at him, the tiredness in her eyes was more obvious now.

"See ya Sunday." Hawks wanted to scoop her back up into his arms and kiss her but he restrained himself. Instead he reached his hand out and caressed her cheek before turning to leave.

It was Sunday in the early afternoon, just ten minutes before Siren was supposed to met Hawks so they could rehearse the moves before filming it.

Siren still hasn't heard from Dabi. She wanted to know what was going on but at the same time maybe this was his way of telling her. 'I should give it a little more time, right?! Isn't three weeks enough time? I should let it go…I should let him go. I shouldn't have fallen for him in the first place. The guy literally screams "Don't date me I'll ruin you." And yet-'

"You're early," she was pulled from her thoughts by the one distraction she was happy to have. "So are you. I'm actually surprised," "Thought I'd be late?" "Yep," "Glad I could prove you wrong," "I don't expect it to happen often," "Does that mean we'll get to hang out more? If I didn't know any better I'd say we where becoming fast friends," he wiggled his eyebrows.

Siren rolled her eyes "Come on, I'll show you the spot I was talking about and we can get started." Grabbing her duffle bag she stood and was about to throw it over her shoulder when Hawks snatched the bag from her grasp. He did a fancy hand gesture and bowed with a "After you malady," causing Siren to giggle as she lead him to the building she had scouted.

Hawks set a small camera Siren had given him in the place she said would get the best angle from above. He also set up his phone next to the camera but instead of recording it he decided to start a live stream of them making the video.

Siren finished putting her phone front and center and they both pressed record. Hawks landed in the center of the abandoned building, just a few feet behind her. Siren produced another phone and a small speaker from the duffle bag. After a quick setup she looked back at him and asked "You ready?" He smiled and gave her a thumbs up "Ready." She pressed play and began a count down from ten in her head as she joined Hawks and they posed themselves with his arms wrapped around her just as they'd rehearsed.

"You know your really something, yeah

How'd we get here so damn fast?

Only you can tell me that

Baby, 'cause you know I'm coming back

You're making me forget my past

Never thought I'd feel like that, again

I came to peace with my path

Now you got me off track" They danced together and it was the first time in years that Siren felt this in sync with someone. The movements where simple with them performing the same moves, but this next part is where it was going to get interesting.

"I've never been this scared before

Feelings I just can't ignore

Don't know if I should fight or fly

But I don't mind" Hawks grabbed Sirens hips and she jumped at the same time that he threw her into the air. She caught the aerial ribbon that they had set up earlier and she pulled herself into a sitting position on the material as it was already looped around a pole that hung parallel to the ground. She stayed that way for only a second as she fell backwards and hooked her legs onto the material. Hawks at the same time flew to her level and helped her back into a sitting position.

"Trippin', fallin' with no safety net

Boy, it must be something that you said

Is it real this time or is it in my head?

Got me trippin', fallin' with no safety net" Siren began to swing on the material, once she got to the speed she wanted she stood making sure to hold on to the ends of the ribbon.

Hawks mouthed the words for the male part. The guy who originally recorded the song with Siren was too busy to be in the video. So when she pitched the idea of a top hero in his place he was cool with it.

Siren tried not to laugh at Hawks acting but couldn't help the smile that was spreading across her face. She started singing again and 'fell' backwards forcing Hawks to catch her.

The song was almost over and Siren was back on the ribbon. She let one side of the loop fall towards the ground. Siren wrapped her arm in the material and began to do multiple tricks using only the ribbon to hold her in place.

Hawks watched as Siren practically walked on air. The things this girl could do with her body had his mind wandering into dangerous territory. She began to lower herself back down to the ground and this was the part where he was supposed to catch up with her. He caught her in his arms as she let herself drop from the last of the material and they both smiled as the song ended.

"I can't believe we did it in one take. That was awesome," she said with a smile and dropped her legs to stand on her own. She pulled her arms from his neck and stepped away from him to go check on her phone.

Siren stopped the music before it started all over again and pressed the button to stop the video recording. She scrolled through the footage and was pleased with what she saw. Hawks appeared behind Siren with her camera in hand and held it out to her.

"Thanks," her hand brushed against his as she grabbed the fragile piece of equipment. She checked the footage and smiled. "I don't know how we did it, but this looks great," "It was all your idea," "I know I just…I've never done this with someone before. I'm always the only living thing in my videos so this was, nice." This time she looked directly at him as she smiled and Hawks felt his heart swell.

He couldn't contain himself anymore, he grabbed her chin gently with his hand and closed the distance between them as his lips met hers in a soft sweet kiss. Siren inhaled in surprise and his tongue entered her mouth as she kissed him back. What she didn't know was that his phone was still live streaming and that now over five million of his followers where watching as they shared their first kiss.
