Chapter 27-29

So, there was a lot of cut material for the chapters related to Bakugou's confrontation with Mirio.

I was really amazed at how smoothly everything afterward through Bakugou's and Aizawa's conversation came together. No cut scenes whatsoever!

This scene would take place immediately before Bakugou got startled. I didn't like how it portrayed Mirio. There was something that seemed just a little off although I couldn't put my thumb on it.

Mirio was curious, he couldn't help it. After hearing about these 'troublemakers' of class 1-A, he wanted to see them for himself.

Moments ago, he'd seen Bakugou: the boy who'd highest score on this year's entrance exam, first place in the tournament who was chained and muzzled for the ceremony and one of the big 'trouble makers' of 1-A. The boy had stepped out of his class's dorm with multiple bags of trash in hand.

There was one straight path from the first-year dorms to the dumpsters and it ran past a couple of sheltered buildings to get there. So, here he was tucking his clothes in the corner of a room, so that he could get back into them quickly after he met one of them.

Mirio activated his quirk everywhere except the soles of his feet. The world went dark as the familiar numbness of the 'void' he always found himself in pressed against his skin as his lungs felt like the air had been squeezed out of them, which probably wasn't too far from the truth, considering there was no air left to be in them at the moment.

The only sensation that remained was the pressure on his feet. All that grounded him…in every sense of the world.

Having studied the thickness of the walls of the building beforehand, he knew just how far to lean. It was time to meet one of the troublemakers who'd gotten into a fight the night they'd gotten their licenses. Mirio was really excited for this.

Since I hadn't thought of involving other members of Class 1-A at first, I had a very different conclusion to the 'chase' scene.

As Katsuki approached the main entrance, he spotted Snipe and someone that looked like a blonde werewolf wearing a muzzle. Of course, it was at this moment that it crossed his mind how much trouble he was about to be in since he didn't have his license and he wasn't in training. This was technically illegal.

Fuck!

Deal with it later. First things first. Doll Eyes was still back there and there was no telling what the fuck he was up to.

He directed himself over to them. As he landed, a piece of paper fell out of his hair as something slid off his back and splattered to the ground. He ignored the pieces of trash that must've stuck with him for the whole flight over as he yelled over the alarms, "Some fucker snuck up on me while I was taking out the trash! Poked his head out of a fucking wall!"

The two teachers looked at each other, Snipe's face hidden but the other guy had an annoyed knowing look, so blatant that it was distinguishable despite his doglike facial features. Snipe asked, "Was he blonde with completely blue eyes, no whites or pupils?"

"That's the fucker," Katsuki confirmed.

Snipe gave an exasperated sigh and the dog man growled in what Bakugou could easily recognize from personal experience as frustration.

Snipe looked at his coworker and stated, "I'll stay with Bakugou. Hound Dog, could you go confirm it's Mirio, so that we can turn this alarm off?"

As Hound Dog ran toward the still closed entrance, Bakugou asked, "Who's Mirio?"

"He's a student in his final year. The boy's promising but he likes his jokes and he doesn't always think things through before he acts."

"Are you telling me he was just pranking me?"

"Probably."

Bakugou tsked in response, pissed at the thought that he might have reacted so violently to a joke.

Hound Dog was doing something next to the gate, obviously trying to get it open when the guy, Mirio, poked his head the wall. His face neutral as the Dog Man growled something at him, as if there was nothing unusual about a guy shoving his head through a wall. Maybe there wasn't for him.

Then the teacher pushed a button and the door opened to reveal the older teen standing there shirtless. The teacher marched up to him. Bakugou couldn't hear anything over the alarm, but he recognized Mirio's sinking shoulders, much as Deku would do when Katsuki used the nickname in elementary.

'Good, he should feel like crap,' Katsuki thought, feeling no sympathy for the third-year student who'd startled him. Because that was all that had happened—he'd just been startled. No big deal.

Katsuki wished that they'd just turn off that fucking alarm. He could hardly hear himself think!

Hound Dog punched in a code to shut off the alarm. He looked over at the other boy, who was glaring at him angrily.

When he looked over at Bakugou, the explosive teen crossed his arms and glared. Most wouldn't be able to make out the shame in his stance, but he'd been reading Deku for years and this guy showed it in a similar way.

Alright, so there was an entire side arc to this set of Chapters that was going to involve Shinsou because I wanted to fill it out a little and felt this would be an opportunity to introduce him, since I have plans later in the story (now the series).

Then, I made the change at the end of the chapter would have involved Izuku's classmates and this just didn't seem to fit anymore. Thus, it got cut out. But I did raid it for chapter 32, before Izuku's conversation with Nezu. I just couldn't bring myself to cut all of it. Everything from here are the scenes I was working on for them before cutting everything out, which was in various stages of completion.

Izuku and Shinsou during the alarm: Izuku perspective version

Izuku had just reached the school when the alarm sounded. He was rushed into the main building by Snipe, where he found himself face-to-face with Shinsou, who looked like he'd just hit the showers. Had he been at the pool?

Either way, the glass-walled front entrance was not a safe place to be when the alarm was going off…"I don't suppose gen ed has gone over the protocol for if there's an attack.

"No," Shinsou replied. "I'd think your class would have that down by now, though."

Izuku opened the door to the inside of the school and gestured for Shinsou to go before him. "Not really; we've been attacked so much, I didn't even realize that we hadn't gone over any drills for if a villain attack happened while we're in class."

"Surely there's something your teacher told you before coming to the U.S.J.?"

Izuku opened a door to a room.

Then I started on Hitoshi's perspective. It starts with him reflecting on his training with Aizawa while showering after the training session and he reflects on training up to this point. The start of this scene was taken remodified chapter 32.

….Now, where there had been blisters, the calluses had finally started forming. And where he would be exhausted at the end of his sessions, he found himself a little less tired and sore.

He still found himself tangled in the capture cloth Aizawa had provided for him more often than not, though.

As Hitoshi shut off the faucet and began to towel off, he recalled how he'd received his offer for a chance at the heroics course. In the weeks leading up to the UA tournament, their homeroom teacher, the pro hero Snipe—who, for some reason, refused to give his actual name the way that most of the staff did—had encouraged them to apply to internships at various institutions related to the positions they were most interested in relation to the careers they were pursuing.

As painful as it had been to fill out the forms, he had done so dutifully, knowing his shots were long for getting into the hero course.

Despite the flak the members of general education got, their grades on the general written portion of the entrance exam were actually held to the highest standard of any UA class. In other words, by most standards, they were the brightest of the bright. So, it wasn't hard to get an internship in most places, as they were still highly desired.

But when Snipe had dropped the list of interested parties on Shinsou's desk, he'd found there was an offer he hadn't filled out a form for. A letter stating that if he was interested in the Hero Course, to meet at ground Alpha when school let out, signed by Aizawa Shota.

If it hadn't been for the announcer in the booth during the UA tournament, he wouldn't have had a clue who the man was. But he did. It was the teacher of class 1-A.

He'd shown up at the training ground, seemingly deserted until the moment he found himself hanging upside down, suspended by wraps of cloth.

He looked down—or was it up, since his feet were facing skyward?—to find himself looking at a man who might have been more tired than he was, which was quite a feat.

Mr. Aizawa had informed him that he had a quirk that would be invaluable to heroics but, as shown in his confrontation against Midoriya, it was all he currently had in his favor. In heroics, it would not be enough.

After lowering Shinsou to the ground with an ease that would infuriate the boy to recall over the next few months, Mr. Aizawa had explained that what he was offering wasn't a guarantee to get into the hero course but merely the possibility. Shinsou would have to earn his position and if at any point the man felt he did not have what it took to become a hero, he would immediately end their lessons and that would be the end of it. After stating this, he asked if Shinsou was still interested in the hero course.

When Shinsou had made it clear that he wasn't backing down, Mr. Aizawa had nodded and stated that rather than an internship, he would be meeting with the man during school hours to begin his training. Mainly, it had been Aizawa testing his limits, quirk, mind, and body, in ways that left him completely spent at the end of each day.

They had also set up a training regimen for Shinsou to adhere to when he couldn't spend all day training with Aizawa, as had to happen when the members of class 1-A returned and he was restricted to afterschool sessions.

I probably would have shifted the intro to Aizawa around but this was the first thing that popped into my head, which, while fun to write and good as a placeholder scene, might not be the most fitting or In Character approach. This is how I do a lot of my writing, starting out with scenes that can connect and then go over and ask myself if I think it fits well as is and if not how can I make it better.

I also have a feeling that at some point in the future of the series we will get to see the actual scene where Aizawa and Shinsou meet for the first time, so I don't want to make a scene that I am fairly confident will clash with the main series at some point down the line. I want my story to be able to mostly fit with canon even as new factors are introduced down the line (thus far, I feel I've done a good job).

Shinsou felt himself tense as the other boy approached. Despite the encouragement his classmates had given him during the tournament, they had become more wary of him now that they knew about his quirk. That, combined with the fact that several other students were less than thrilled about having his quirk used on them had basically tanked his reputation with a large portion of the students here.

It was fine. Hitoshi was used to it. As long as he had his offer for the hero course, he was fine.

Actually, as Midoriya approached, Hitoshi noted that he had some scrapes and bruises. Was he one of the kids Hound Dog was barking about at the assembly? Funny, Midoriya hardly seemed like someone who started fights.

Hitoshi also realized, as he tried to read the other boy's body language, a habit that he had learned long ago but Aizawa had helped him hone, that he couldn't actually read him. It didn't even seem like it was purposeful; more like Midoriya instinctively schooled himself not to show anything.

It had been one thing during the tournament, when Midoriya had actively stopped himself from responding to Hitoshi again after escaping his quirk, exuding nothing but bone chilling levels of determination, where there were actual stakes.

It was another to see him wandering the halls, giving off friendly vibes but still looking like there was far more locked up under the surface that he wasn't showing.

"Hey, Shinsou."

"Midoriya."

"How have you been?

"I thought that you looked like you might be doing some physical training last time I saw you. I take it that's why you look like you came out of the shower?"

"Is it that obvious?"

Izuku rubbed the back of his neck and said, "To be honest, It was only just last year that I really took my own physical training seriously."

A section of this scene has been cut for spoiler prevention purposes. I had Midoriya admitting that he was a 'late bloomer' to Hitoshi in an attempt to try to overcome the barrier between them. I probably would have ultimately cut this scene anyway because of the way I want to go about Izuku getting to the point where he's ready to talk to others about it.

It finishes with Izuku bringing up that his quirk allowed him to slip free from Hitoshi's Brainwash.

"Does it have something to do with why you were able to free yourself?" Hitoshi asked before he could stop himself.

"Oh…! yeah, it does. Sorry, I never thought about saying anything but I imagine it must be really stressful for you, huh? Has anyone else done it before? If you were worried about anyone being able to do it, you don't need to, I promise…"

Hitoshi frowned and asked, "Are you sure?"

Izuku nodded.

Hitoshi hadn't even realized how much it had bothered him until he felt some relief, even as he asked, "And you're absolutely sure?"

"Yeah, I don't really feel comfortable talking about what happened but it was definitely my quirk, not yours. Anyway, if you ever want to train with someone else, I'd be happy to help. I have to keep training my body so it doesn't slip below Superpower's threshold. Maybe we could help each other out sometime. It'd be nice to deal with someone who knows what it's like to have to…you know, put up with other people looking down on you for quirk status. I haven't really told my classmates yet because… you know how people react."

Hitoshi sighed. "Yeah, I do." He wanted to tell Midoriya that he wasn't interested in making friends. Aizawa had been teaching him to look up information. Maybe he'd look around and verify what Midoriya said but there was something in the way he said it… In the way he made himself look small and acted timidly. "I'll think about it," he finally said.

Izuku nodded and smiled before saying, "I'd talk more but Principal Nezu is waiting on me."

Shinsou fought the urge to wince. Even with secondhand information from Mr. Aizawa, he already knew to be wary of the furball genius that ran the school.

This scene would be in tandem with when Bakugou set off the alarm.

Midoriya was about to reply when suddenly, an alarm started blaring throughout the building, the loud, high pitched noise echoing down the hall even between the actual bursts of sound.

Moments after the alarm starts, a couple copies of Ectoplasm come around the corner. One tells the boys to proceed with the emergency protocols.

When Midoriya asks if he can do anything, since he has his preliminary license, Ectoplasm states that he can accompany Shinsou, since he is a civilian.

Shinsou is about to get angry when Ectoplasm orders him to not let Midoriya go investigate what's happening and certainly not convince him to help.

"Wait!" Shinsou held up both hands in a 'halt' gesture. "Are you having Midoriya watch me, or me watch him?"

Rather than answer, Ectoplasm stated, "I'll come back to let you know when it's safe to come out," and darted down the hall.

"I'm not that bad at getting into trouble!" Izuku called out, to which Ectoplasm actually glanced over his shoulder before slipping out the door.

"What did you do?"

"I can't talk about it."

"Really? The school forbade you—"

"No, it's a legal thing."

"You did something that would be breaking the law just to discuss?" Shinsou asked in disbelief over the siren.

But Izuku decided there were more important concerns at the moment. "We should probably get out of the hallway…" Izuku said, and as he and the other boy entered the nearest room and closed the door behind them, he asked, "I don't suppose you know what we're supposed to do? You know, if there's any specialized protocols here at UA beyond other schools?"

"How can't you know that? Your class has been involved in two villain attacks now!"

"Wow! Was it really only two?" Izuku asked and as he thought about it, counting the incidents he'd dealt with and figuring out how many had involved the whole class. "It really is, isn't it?"

"Did you just have to use both hands to count the number of incidents you've been involved in?"

"I'm not allowed to—"

"Yeah, okay, fine. I get it."

By now, they were working together to push a table in front of the door.

Izuku silently opened the window, in case they had to make a quick getaway, before joining Shinsou in the corner, where the other boy had opened his bag to pull out… was that capture cloth?

Once the alarm activates while they're talking, Izuku and Shinsou duck into a room together. The first part of this scene was once again cut for chapter 32. This and the final scene depict slightly different endings for Izuku and Shinsou's interaction during the crisis.

Instead Izuku just gave a nod, sure that Shinsou could use his quirk on an unsuspecting Villain or he could knock down a wall to escape if need be. They ducked inside and waited for the alarm to stop.

When it finally did Izuku sighed. "Last time the alarm went off was during that lunch period in the first week. It's the only other time I never did anything." Izuku pushed the door open and peaked out to see that everything looked normal.

"I'm willing to bet someone from your class was involved in this."

"I hope not, because usually it's either me or Kacchan who are there."

"Kacchan?" Shinsou asked as he stepped out behind Izuku. "Who…" Of course, then a group was approaching the door: Snipe, Hound Dog, an older student and Katsuki Bakugou... He realized that must be 'Kacchan.'

As Snipe entered the building, he looked at the two students and the open doorway. "We haven't actually had any drills this year, have we?"

"Is everything alright?" Izuku asked.

"Yes, fine. You boys should go back to your dorms."

"Deku has an appointment at the principal's office," Kacchan said as the other boy gave Izuku and Shinsou a curious look.

Snipe sighed and said, "You might as well come along, then." He glanced at Shinsou and asked, "How about you?"

"I just finished up and was about to head out when the alarm went off." He looked at Kacchan and snorted. "Looks like you were right about who was under attack, Midoriya. It was him you were referring to, right?"

This is the concluding section for Izuku and Shinsou's time together while the waiting for the alarm to shut off.

And suddenly, Izuku understood. Why he'd seen Shinsou and Mr. Aizawa together. Why their teacher was busy after school.

Izuku sat next to Shinsou and smiled at him.

When the alarm shut off and the Ectoplasm clone told them it was safe to come out, Izuku finally said, "Congratulations! I hope we end up in the same class next year."

Shinsou blinked, startled before quietly saying, "Thanks."

"And the training offer is still open. For your quirk, too, if you want." He looked at his watch and said, "I wonder if they'll cancel my meeting because of this."

"I'm calling it now; it'll involve at least one of your classmates."

Izuku looked at the other boy and could see he was just teasing. "Just because my class gets in a lot of trouble doesn't mean we're responsible for everything, you know. We didn't have anything to do with the media break in, except that it was probably where the League got the information to plan the USJ attack." Izuku added the last on as an afterthought.

Shinsou smirked at Izuku and said, "Told you so."

Izuku could feel his face turn bright red with embarrassment.

The staff shooed the purple boy, "Shinsou" off but when they tried to get Izuku to go too, he explained his own appointment with Aizawa and Nezu, and ended up accompanying their party to the office.

I was originally going to have Bakugou and Mirio's scolding take place in a different room than used here and Izuku and Nezu would meet up in his office. But then I realized that not only did that not make sense, having the scene take place in Nezu's room also opened up the opportunity for furthering the plot quicker by having Nezu take Izuku to the room that he would soon be workingin.

During Izuku's time at Aldera Middle School, he rarely saw the inside of the principal's office. The few times he did were usually because he'd 'disrupted class,' or 'had gotten into a fight,' usually one that had involved damaged school property.

So, the idea of going to the office now made him nervous, even if he wasn't in trouble. He'd prefer to have been carrying trash to the dumpsters, even if it meant getting scared by a third year. As far as student shenanigans, that was tame compared to what he'd put up with in elementary and middle school. He was more used to that type of thing than Kacchan, too.

Instead, he was carrying his beloved notebooks, to hand them over to the being beyond the door.

He stopped in front of the office to catch his breath before knocking, but was robbed of the opportunity as the door opened and Izuku found himself looking down at principal Nezu, who was smiling as he said, "Good afternoon Midoriya, please come in."

"Y-y-yes sir," Izuku replied and slipped into the room. He stepped to the middle of the room and waited, staring straight forward as he heard the door close behind him and Nezu beside his desk.

"Please, take a seat. Make yourself comfortable."

Izuku did as instructed, sitting in the chair across the table from Nezu's still vacant seat. He gently placed his bag down on the carpet next to his seat before staring down at his hands.

Instead, the head of the school had momentarily slipped into an adjacent room before coming back with a tray, upon which there was a tea set. "Would you like some?"

Izuku stared in confusion, not used to being offered anything, let alone tea. Suddenly realizing he must seem rude just sitting and staring, he said, "S-s-sure." Nezu set the tray down on his conveniently empty desk. Izuku realized how odd it was, no papers or anything on it.

Nezu filled up a cup and pushed it toward him before pouring a second for himself. "Feel free to take some sugar or cream if you want," he stated before taking a sip of his tea.

"Thanks," Izuku replied quietly but mirrored Nezu's motion and drinking some of the hot liquid before setting the cup down, figuring that was the politest thing to do. He wasn't sure. He'd never been in a situation like this before.

And that is the original set of scenes I was working with for Bakugou's confrontation with Mirio. I have already posted all the scenes I had for Bakugou and Aizawa's conversation. So, the next set of deleted scenes will probably be related to the meeting with Nezu (unless I end up keeping them all for future conversations, which is also a possibility).
