Hi!
So, about this chapter. I know that this story is specifically about Ant and Madeline but I guess I just couldn't resist throwing in an awkward Finntaine moment. Hope you forgive me XD.
I hope you enjoy!
When Finn surfaced in the moon pool room, he saw Fontaine struggling with a huge something.
He couldn't tell what it was but just as Finn exited the water, she almost dropped it and Finn lunged out just in time to help her catch it and stop the item from crushing her and in unison the pair lowered the object.
Finn turned his head to see Fontaine staring at him.
"Erm, hi," he said warily.
" What are you doing here? " she demanded.
Wow. So no small talk then. Straight to business.
"Helping you to rescue my sister," Finn replied, perfectly casual.
"No! What are you doing here on our sub?" She demanded again.
"I thought you might need help, and I want you to get my sister out, she slightly wants to murder your brother , plus she, well she's, she -" Finn began.
"She's what?" Fontaine asked, almost looking concerned.
"She doesn't like the dark, or small places, " Finn admitted.
"She's claustrophobic," Fontaine said, more of an answer than a question.
Finn didn't even bother answering, Fontaine was smart, she already had her answer and she knew it was the right one.
"Can I help you?" He asked when Fontaine seemed to have come to terms with this new information.
Inside Fontaine's head, she seemed to be spiralling off the earth.
Mad Madeline was claustrophobic.
How could Mad Madeline be claustrophobic?
She never seemed afraid: her sub was tiny and cramped and certainly dark. But the look in Finn's eyes told her that this was the truth and he loved his sister. He would never consider being even remotely pirate-like if her safety was at risk.
For a moment, Fontaine looked like she would protest before she finally said:
"Help me with the laser cutter," she said, moving to one end of the huge something she had almost dropped before.
Finn nodded and helped her to pick it up.
"Where are we moving it to?" Finn asked.
"The rover," Fontaine replied, indicating said vehicle which was behind her with her head.
Carefully, the two of them moved over to the rover where the laser cutter was stuck to the side of one claw by way of an alarmingly powerful magnet. Then, Fontaine used her sub's claw to carefully lift and lower the vehicle into the moon pool, not fully letting go of it.
"Come on then!" Fontaine called, practically leaping into the rover.
For a moment, Finn stood there, looking slightly gormless and in shock.
Fontaine was actually allowing him to help her.
Was she trusting him?
She trusted him?
She was trusting him...
...had she suffered a recent head iniury?
"Are you coming or not? I thought you wanted to rescue your sister," Fontaine called again from her seat in the rover, she had left the canopy open for Finn to enter.
Finn nodded and jumped on board the rover, sitting beside Fontaine.
Things seemed to be going surprisingly well for them so far: she hadn't given him one of her exasperated Fontaine faces, her parents had barely even had time to be mad at him since they had spent so much time arguing with Hammerhead and they weren't stuck at the bottom of the ocean.
...that was until they got stuck at the bottom of the ocean.
The minute Fontaine started up the rover and the claw released them, things just seemed to spiral out of control. The whole rover tilted to one side, causing the pair of them to fall and clash into one another before suddenly plummeting to the ocean floor, landing upside down, still tilted to one side.
Upon the impact, there was a long silence while the two pulled themselves together.
"Finn?" Fontaine asked as it was fairly dark so deep in the ocean with half of the rover's window buried in the sand.
" Yeah, I'm here, are you okay? " Finn asked as he dragged himself upright.
"Yeah," Fontaine replied.
"What happened?" He asked.
" I forgot to adjust the air ballast, the weight of the laser unbalanced us, " Fontaine answered, beginning flick through a few screens on the rover's monitor.
"Okay, I can get us up but it will take a while, we'll need someone to help lift us, " Fontaine said after a moment.
"Can't one of us just go outside and push?" Finn asked.
" You can try but we're stuck upside down, I don't know how you'd be able to get outside, " Fontaine replied, speaking seriously but her voice was tainted with her slight amusement.
"Oh," Finn said, " Yeah that could be a prob - wait, what's that? "
He gestured to something not too far off in the distance.
The pair squinted at it in confusion until Fontaine finally registered it.
"Ah," she said when her mind came to a realisation , "that would be both our fathers,"
I'm sorry that this chapter isn't great but hopefully the next one will be better.
Also, I know that the rover would have most likely sunk as soon as the laser was attached but oh well, the claw was half supporting them anyway. XD
Thank you so much for reading,
Please review, I would love to know what you think,
See you next chapter!
