After treking through the digusting sewer beneath the targeted villa, with none of us wearing shoes, Pori lifted up the manhole open and climbed up with a cautious hand on his blade.
I waited for him to give the signal that it was all clear. He waved his left hand once which meant 'clear'.
Twice meant 'wait', and three meant 'take cover'.
I climbed up after him and looked around to see we were inside of a maintenance room.
"We strike now or do we have to wait?"
Pori said nothing and was already starting to head down the hallway and I nearly tripped to catch up to him.
"Hey! Pori wait! What's the plan?"
He didn't show any signs of halting, and I was starting to grow impatient.
"Hey!"
He finally came to a stop right outside the door only to use his katana to break open the lock.
"Behind me always."
"Yeah and what else?"
His silence was defeaning but it answered all my questions. He didn't want me getting in the way. And it was kind of both insulting and infruiating.
I just nodded and followed after him as he held his sword tightly and pushed the door open.
I covered my eyes as the bright afternoon sunlight filled the room through the tall glass windows. Pori looked around and gave the clear signal.
We both headed down the hallway, me keeping my hand on my blade.
Once we rounded the corner he instantly gave me the 'take cover' signal. I hid behind a table instantly and Pori hid behind a cabinet as two armed men were heading our direction.
I peeked from my hiding place to see him with his sword at the ready waiting for the men to come closer to strike at the right moment.
When they stood about a few inches away he stabbed one through the throat and grabbed the man's pistol to shoot the other. His reaction speed was both impressive and scary.
Pori gave me the clear signal and we continued along like that.
When we got to the main hallway though there was lots of men armed to the teeth with machine guns.
I heard Pori mutter 'Kuso' under his breath. I waited for him to give a signal, but he looked like he was too busy weighing his options.
I carefully walked backwards and started heading back in the direction we came.
"Paty!"
He said in a sharp whisper when he saw me heading back. I told him to keep quiet and motioned for him to wait here.
I went back to the two men Pori killed earlier and confiscated their guns from them.
Two machine guns and one pistol. Better than nothing.
When I was sure I had everything I headed back to Pori with the guns and passed one to him. He approached me and took the other one from me.
"Hey-"
He put a hand on my mouth before I gave our hiding places away.
"Behind me always. Okay?"
I nodded yes to him out of frustration. When was I going to be able to assist him too?!
I held onto the pistol behind my back tightly. Luckily my dad taught me how to shoot one so I should keep it. Pori let go of my mouth and turned to get ready to fire at them.
To my surprise he kicked open the door and instantly started shooting at the men. I recoiled and hid behind a drawer for protection.
Three men were down instantly while the other three fired at us and Pori had to duck behind the doorframe to be safe from the gunfire.
I silently cursed at myself for being an idiot because where I was hiding had me in more danger of getting shot
I looked to Pori for help and he looked back at me hesitating for just a minute on how to save me without getting shot himself.
He turned back to them trying to shoot them down quickly before they shot me. I stayed down as much as I possibly could.
While I was looking for any way out of the situation carefully, I didn't realize one guard was sneaking up behind me. Before I could spot him he grabbed me hard and pulled me into a chokehold.
"Gahhhhhhhhhh!!!"
Pori turned around instantly to shoot the man choking me, when he failed to notice the last man he shot wasn't dead yet. Before I could warn him the guy fired and shot Pori in his left shoulder.
Pori grunted in pain but still managed to shoot the choker in the head. I shreiked as the sound of the bullet flew past me and made my ear ring for a few seconds.
Pori turned back to the guy who shot him with agitation and shot him in the head too. Once they were both dead Pori held his shoulder that was now bleeding and staining his grey sleeves red.
I ran over to him and held him steady to prevent him from falling. When I heard footsteps fast approaching in the main door not too far away from us.
Supporting him I walked on over to a room and forced the doors open. It was a sitting room, and luckily the only one there was a bartender.
He was about to pull out a shotgun and without hesitating I picked up Pori's right hand and shot the bartender in the chest.
I went to the closest armchair to hide behind it and set Pori down.
I had to stop the bleeding fast. I took off my bulletproof vest and put it on him.
"Paty...What are-"
"Shh! Don't talk! Here!"
I took off my navy blue t-shirt, folded it, and gently pressed it against his wounded shoulder.
His shoulders quaked a little and I heard him fight back a cry of pain.
He set the machine gun down, so he could use his right hand to hold my shirt and stop the bleeding.
"Paty...Run. Leave me."
"No I am not! We are partners!"
The men reached our room and started shooting at our hiding place. I stayed down and held my grip tightly on the pistol. I waited for the moment they had to reload to fire back.
Once it was time I poked my pistol out from underneath the chair and shot them in the legs.
"BEHIND ME ALWAYS PORI!"
When they fell down in pain after I had shot their legs their heads were easier targets.
In six shots I had killed all three of them. I cautiously stood up and surveryed the hallway making sure no one else was coming. When I saw there was no one I turned to see Pori trying to stand up using the chair as support.
"Pori what are you doing?! You can't walk!"
"We leave now!"
I shook my head as he stood up and tried to walk to the doors that lead outside when he gasped and kneeled down nearly crumbling in pain.
I supported him on his good arm as we walked to the entryway outside. When we stepped out, I looked in surprise to see a boat leaving with our target and several body guards out to the coast.
"Damn it! He got away!"
"Paty need to...Argh! Leave!"
"Okay hold on!"
I supported him down the steps of the courtyard back to where our boat was waiting next to the sewer grate. When we reached it Pori made movements to take the driver's wheel. I quickly stopped him.
"Oh no you don't! You're not driving us home with that shoulder! I'm taking the wheel you rest in the back!"
"I'm not going to- Argh!"
He looked like he was about to say no but when his shoulder flared up again he reluctantly sat down in the back while I turned on the keys and steered us down the shore fast.
"No not-"
"Oh be quiet I know what I'm doing! Be quiet in the back and just trust me!"
Pori said nothing as he held his shoulder looking like he was in too much pain to argue with me.
~
After a really long drive down the shore we came to a halt near an abandoned dock and I helped Pori up as we walked down the dock together.
We barely reached the end when he looked like he was close to passing out. I looked around in worry and was relived to see a shack beside the ocean grass and with no other options I led him there. He showed no signs of arguing and used me for support as we walked towards it.
I pushed open the door and saw that all that was in there was old life preservers. I set him down against the wall and he refused to let go of his shoulder. I know he needed first aid soon so I quickly breathed and stood up.
"I'll be right back okay! Wait here!"
Pori looked like he was gonna put out a hand to stop me, but halted as it looked like the movement just put him in more pain.
I ran out the shack and frantically headed up the boardwalk looking for any stores or for anything around with the things I needed.
I saw an old tackle shop as I was running and quickly stopped and jogged inside. As soon as I stepped inside an old woman looked up and warmly smiled at me from behind the counter.
"Hello young miss. Need anything?"
I always carrried emergency money with me in my shorts and hopefully it would be enough.
"Do you have any first aid kits I can buy?"
"Yes their over there dear. Did something happen dear? You look troubled."
What can I say as a good excuse?
"Oh me and my boyfriend are going to camp on the beach and we forgot to bring our first aid. Safety first am I right?"
"Ah to be young and in love. Well then go ahead and help yourself."
As I frantically hurried to pick one out I turned to see a sleeping bags and picked two out. And some chips in case we got hungry.
I thanked the lady after I paid and hurried out with the paper bag back to Pori.
"I'm back!"
Pori looked up at me his two masks off and hoodie on his back. I set the bag down and immediately pulled out the first aid kit.
"Take off your shirt."
Pori grunted a little as he took off the vest and pulled up his shirt off his shoulders. I was surprised to see his sleeves were not connected to his shirt.
I opened the kit and pulled out the tweezers.
"This is going to hurt."
I gulped as I looked down at his rippling muscles, but quickly focused on his wound to pull out the bullet already. As soon as it started getting pulled out he winced ever so slightly and I did my best to be gentle.
After gently tugging it, I finally managed to pry it out. I held my heavily stained shirt against the wound to stop some of the bleeding.
With my other hand I pulled out medicine and put it on his wound. He could not hide the grunt of pain this time.
"Ah!"
"It's okay!"
I said as I sucked a breath and continued. I stitched the wound up as best as I could, Pori looking like he just wanted the pain to stop.
When I finished stitching, I wrapped it up with cleaning and bandaging.
I looked at my handiwork to see a successful wrap around his neck, above his left shoulder and under his arm pit.
"How are you feeling?"
"Okay."
He was trying to hide it but I could tell it still hurt him a lot.
"Well we should get some rest so you can recover."
I took out the sleeping bags and started setting up Pori's for him when he spoke.
"Paty."
"Yes?"
I said as I looked at him in surprise.
"Thank you."
My cheeks flushed red as I realized Pori was actually thanking me. He looked like he wanted to say more but he said nothing else. But I didn't want to leave our conversation on a awkward note. No matter how much I was reluctant about any romance after the incident my ex-boyfriend I wanted to do something for Pori in return. So I did.
I crawled on over till I was right beside him and kissed him on his cheek.
"You're welcome."
I whispered at him before I shyly crawled away and set up our sleeping bags. Once I was done, I crawled into mine and told him goodnight.
My cheeks were still red and I did my best to fall asleep, but I was still too awake to hear Pori speak before going to bed himself.
"Goodnight... Paty."
