"How could he possibly know that just by listening?!" Mira was incredulous.

"It's a dragon slayer thing," came Wendy's reply as she was currently listening to the baby's heart. "He's right. It's a girl."

"How can you tell?" Levy asked tilting her head.

"Girls' hearts beat faster than boys'," Wendy answered still cuddling to Lucy's stomach. She was loving the sound.

Natsu grinned and shouted from across the guild as he was currently engaged in a congratulatory brawl, "I told you so!"

"Hush!" came the women's answer.

"But it's so soon! Do they have heartbeats at this stage?" Erza wanted answers.

"Yeah, it's way too early!" came Bisca's concern. Her doctors told her they couldn't confirm her pregnancy with Asuka until she had been much further along. It had caused many problems and they'd nearly lost Asuka on a few occasions. She'd also continued to be ill afterwards. If Lucy's parents hadn't helped them, they would have.

Lucy was still in the early part of her second month.

Wendy lifted her head finally. "We can hear their hearts at five weeks, but regular doctors can't find it until about halfway through pregnancy. Porlyusica and I are trying to cut that in half. There are only so many dragon slayers in the world."

She was thrilled about what they were trying to do. It would help identify problems in a pregnancy long before they became a major issue. With Lucy being surrounded by so many dragon slayers and healers she wouldn't be having any problems. None of the guild's girls would if Wendy had any say in the matter. She knew how dire it could be without them. This would help the rest of the world if they could get it to work.

Lucy agreed to help with the project.

The dragon slayers had mentioned that it was almost like their hearing gave them a second set of eyes. There was a possibility she would be able to not only hear their baby's heartbeat but see her while she was still inside.

Natsu was thrilled about that and offered his help with the project as well.

Five months went by with several members of several guilds volunteering to help. They were finally able make a machine to hear the baby's heart through a speaker, but they couldn't prove that they could hear it any sooner than before. What they were able to do that they couldn't do before was see her.

Lucy had continued to blind Natsu for weeks afterwards, smiling adoringly at her swollen belly. He loved it even though he couldn't see when he was around her.

The guild asked him why he kept running into things. When he'd told them the reason, they'd almost died laughing.

True to their agreement, the Fairy Tail stepped up their protection of the beloved blonde, even more so after she'd announced her pregnancy. Natsu had apologized over and over, still swearing to make it up to them. When Lucy finally asked about it, he'd become flustered.

He started out strong only to end in a near whisper, "I did a thing."

"A thing?" She crossed her arms, eyebrows raised accusingly. He lost all confidence.

"Let's not talk about the thing."

She glared, "We'll talk about the thing later."

He was in trouble.

He heard Gray from across the room whisper, "I still say he was holding back."
