Hi, thank your for the last reviews. I hope you like this update.

...

"So...", Matt looked into Gabby's eyes as his hands cradled her face gently. They were a few feet from the check-in counter at the O'hare international airport.

"So... you are sure you didn't forget anything?" Gabby asked as her hands were resting against his sides.

"I don't think so...", he frowned, "... I have everything I need here... in my arms...".

"Smooth, very smooth, Mr. Casey...", she looked up at him as Matt smiled at her, then kissed her temple, nuzzling her skin in the process. "Although, I am talking about the mosquito repellent lotion... you sure you have enough with you?" tightening her arms around him.

"You made me buy 4 bottles of it, I believe is enough, my dear...", he said tilting his head.

"Okay, then, don't complain later to me...", rising on her tiptoes she kissed his chin quickly.

"My only complaint is that we didn't have more time together before I travel...", his roamed her face.

"Me too...", Gabby replied softly. "... hopefully, we will have it when you get back if that is something you-.", Matt cut her off.

"Yes, yes... I want to pick up right where we left off here...", his tone serious. "Maybe, it's rush for some people,...", Matt trailed off.

Gabby nodded, "... yeah, but I don't want to waste time overthinking it... or walking in circles about something that feels right for me...".

Matt shook his head positively, "We have a lot to discuss and we'll do it, yet we need to be on the same page about what's happening between us...".

"You're right..." Gabby stated.

"When I get back I wanna be back in your arms, that's where I crave to be since you walking into my apartment a few hours ago...". His words were so sincere, Gabby's felt in her heart.

Their eyes met and stroking her cheek, Matt leaning in to kiss her sweetly.

"Let's start over...", Gabby voiced as Matt wrapped his arms around her as he had a smile on his lips.

"It's all I want...", kissing her head a few times. Gabby sighed thinking that if they will get back together they will possibly hurt one person down the line, Brett.

Pushing away from Matt, Gabby stared at him. "There is no way of doing it without hurting Brett...".

"I've had time to think about what happened between us and I got the point that I think we've projected our feelings onto each other when you left...".

Gabby dropped her head as crossed her arms over her chest.

"We had this codependent friendship, you know, that turned into something more later...", he added upset as he eyed her reaction.

"It's something you felt you didn't have with me, right...", Gabby lifted her head to gaze at him., "...that's what I've got from our conversation that day I decided to go to Porto Rico",

Matt pressed his lips together, shifting on his feet feeling uncomfortable with her declaration, though she was right. It didn't fit right with him the way she didn't include him in her decisions before and after they got married.

Putting his hands on her shoulders, he pulled her closer to him. "I don't aim to have with you what I had with Brett, Gabby, it's not I'm looking for... I love the independent woman that you are, that hasn't changed, but I need you to understand that we can rely on each other, even if we have different opinions, we can meet each other in the middle without compromising who we are...".

Gabby heard every word, what he had said was reasonable, she thought. Therefore, right there she decided to open her heart and give Matt what he was asking for without words: trust in him, giving herself entirely.

"I-I'll try... that's all I can say, Matt...", tears in her eyes.

"It's a start, it's all I am asking you...", cradling her face between his hands.

Gabby gripped the hem of his jacket as Matt angled his mouth over hers and Gabby welcomed his wet kisses for a couple of seconds.

With their lips still touching, "...you are gonna miss your flight...", Gabby spoke as looking around shyly due to their display of affection with so many people around.

"Flight? I don't know anything about that", Matt grinned.

"I'm glad I'm here to remember you...", laughing she stepped back. "Come on, boy... get in the line...".

"Okay...", he took his leather duffle bag on the floor and put it on his shoulder.

"Text me when you land, okay?" If everything went right Gabby would hear from him in 5 hours.

"Of course...", Matt grabbed her hand and brought it to his lips. "Take care of yourself, alright?"

Gabby rolled her eyes playfully at his words, "yes, Sir...",

Matt pulled her into a hug, seconds passed when Gabby pushed him lightly.

"Go...", Gabby uttered and finally Matt her let go.

...

A few days later

"You are not funny...", Gabby chuckled as talking to Matt on the phone.

"People here would say otherwise...", Matt responded as laying on his bed tent. "They like my jokes very much...", he was alone in the tent.

Cracking a smile Gabby replied "they are trying to be nice to you, after all your help is welcoming there", the elevator door opened for her.

"Ouch...", he expressed sounding offended. "I'll stay here then, where people love my jokes...", he ran a hand through his hair.

"Don't even think about it, Matt Casey... Next day I'll be there to bring your ass back to Chicago...", walking down the aisle, Gabby stopped at Matt's apartment door.

"You miss me, hun?" talking to Gabby is refreshing for him.

Gabby smirked, "... sometimes...", she pulled the keys from her purse.

"I miss you all the time... just for you know..." smiling he declared.

Gabby bit her lower lip, "honestly... I miss all the time as well...", she closed her eyes for a few seconds.

Opening the door she looked up and saw Brett standing in the living room.

"I'm happy to hear it...", then he suggested"... can we make a facetime call now?" he sat up in his bed.

"Look, can I call you later?", her eyes locked with Brett's, Gabby stepped into the apartment, then closed the door behind her.

"Something is wrong?", he got worried sensing her tone of voice has changed.

"No, no, everything is fine, I'll call you in an hour, it's okay?"

Brett kept standing still, arms crossed over her chest.

"Okay, I'll have dinner, we talk later... bye, babe...".

"Bye...", Gabby ended the call.

...

"You two are together again?" Brett went straight to the point.

"I gave you and Matt space, I even called him that day you approached me at Boden's home. Do you remember? Giving thumbs up to your relationship..."

Brett scoffed, "... not a long time ago, I was living here with him, we made love in that bed...", she pointed to the hallway.

Gabby walked to the center table, putting her purse and two bags over there, holding her phone and Matt's keys in her hand.

"You have been in the front row of my life with Matt, you were one of the first people to know he asked to marry him for the first time...".

Brett bowed her head, looking at her feet.

"...I don't know what you think, but this is what I think, you wanted what I had with Matt, that's how I see things here... I left for Puerto Rico and you fell in love with him?! Girl, how it fits well with you that was okay to fuck my ex-husband? You were my best friend, my partner in ambo for years... How would you feel if you were in my place? You would take it lightly?"

There was a moment of silence and then...

"Matt became a friend... a nice friend... I wasn't planning to fall in love with him...", she looked up at Gabby.

"You could have stepped back, reflecting about it at least...", Gabby shrugged. "I'd say the same to Matt, like dating my best friend?! What on earth was going on in his head?"

"I've tried to dismiss my feeling until the day I couldn't and Matt confessed she had real feelings for me as well...", Brett affirmed proudly.

"Alright, he had feelings... What else? he was mad in love with you? he loved you? Tell me...", Gabby pressed her for more.

Nervous, she spoke "I-I don't know what you want, but you can't invalidate what happened between us...", avoiding to look at Gabby in the eyes.

"I know what happened and I know it has ended, Brett", Gabby moved a few inches in her direction.

"He is confused, right now, I understand that. I'll give him some time to realize you-" Gabby intervened.

"I, what?... Brett, I will hurt his feelings again, I'm a bitch? Come on, tell me...".

"You don't care about his feelings, you never had his best interests at heart... I truly care about him,... you don't deserve his heart...", she pointed out.

"You don't know anything about my relationship with Matt and I don't need to prove you anything... However, I'm gonna respond to your question when I walked in through that door... Yes, Brett... we are together again and we made love in that bed, he had me over the cabinet in the bathroom... while we took a shower before I take him to the airport...".

Brett wiped some of her tears looking away.

"I didn't want to say those things, but you asked for it... it will hurt for a while, but, I know you will be okay...".

"I- I should leave, I came to grab some of my things...", there was a box next to the door.

"I know what I've done, my mistakes... I never wished Matt would wait for me or wouldn't date again... he had every right to move on with his life... The thing is you were my friend, Sylvie...", Gabby had tears in her eyes. "We lived together, you dated my brother... maybe I'm being old fashioned, you know... girl code...".

Brett stared at Gabby, "...when it comes to love, those rules are thrown away...".

"Oh, I see...", Gabby raised her eyebrows, "... I hope it doesn't come back to bite you someday...".

"Bye, Gabby...".

"Bye, Sylvie...", Gabby didn't turn around to watch her leave.

...

"Hi, beautiful...".

"Hi...", Gabby smiled widely at him.

Gabby and Matt were in a facetime call.

"You are alone?" Gabby asked him.

"Yeah... My roommate went to take a shower...".

"I need you to say something...", Gabby looked at her hands for a second.

"What is it? You are so serious...", he implied.

"Brett had been here, actually we met by accident... she came to take her things from your apartment...".

Matt nodded, " okay... I should have resolved that after she left...".

"Yeah... we had an ugly conversation... I didn't want to be so hard on her or be so mad... I feel bad, you know...".

"I'm sorry... seriously I'm sorry... however I don't regret what happened between me and you... I want you, end of the story...".

"Me too...", her voice soft.

"If it comes to choose another firehouse, I will-", Gabby cut him off.

"No, Matt... you love Firehouse 51... that's your home, you're not leaving, promise me...".

Matt took a few seconds to agree. "I promise, but we talk more about it later...".

"Alright...", she spoke weakly.

"Let's change the subject... I need to tell you what I witnessed today... I love how people come together to help others here... It's incredible...", he said excitedly.

"It's the best feeling in the world. Please, tell me all about it...", a smile came back to Gabby's lips.

They talked for over one hour, Gabby's heart feeling less heavy seeing his man at ease and happy.
