F3: Hello everyone and welcome back. This chapter will feature the doubles round of the Vytal Tournament. Let's find out what happens next. RWBY is the property of Rooster Teeth and Monty Oum. Also Team SPIR (Sapphire), Melanie Tora, and Ophelia Sorrel are owned by me while Senka Linwood is owned by MountainKing312 along with Akane Shidou and Diana Mirai are owned by Decode9. With that said Let's Get Started.
Volume 3-20: Double or Nothing (Part 1)
Morning came as everyone was awake to start the second day of the tournament as everyone was excited to get started. Everyone expect for Rina who wasn't exactly pleased with today.
"Alright team this is it. The doubles round. Pepper, Rina you two ready to go." Star asked.
"I'm ready. How about you Rina?" Pepper asked her partner who only just scoffed at this remark.
"Yeah. Let's just get today over with okay." Rina replied harshly which made Pepper flinch a little.
"Geez girl what's gotten into you today?" Iona asked.
"Look I just want to get todays round done and over with so that way someone else can finish off tomorrow in the singles match." Rina replied crossing her arms.
"Alright. Guess me and Star will met you two their." Iona replied.
"What you two ain't coming to watch us?" Pepper asked.
"Me and Iona have something we need to get from Vale so it shouldn't take too long. After that then we'll meet you at the arena before your match." Star replied.
Iona looked at Star with a conflicted look "Wait what is it we're getting in Vale?" She questioned.
"You know... that thing for the you know what." Star added which only confused Iona more but then she remembered what she meant.
"Oh right. That thing." Iona said which only confused Pepper and Rina.
"Well whatever it is just don't take too long okay. Let's get moving Pepper." Rina said as the pale girl began to walk ahead.
"You two sure know what you're doing?" Pepper questioned.
"Don't worry. With Ruby's help I'm sure that she's going to love it. Besides the girl needs a little cheering up." Star replied.
"Alright just don't overboard on it." Pepper said as she went to catch up to her partner.
"Okay let's get going and find Ruby. Then we head to Vale and grab the cake before their match and then we'll make this a big surprise for her tonight." Star replied.
"But why tonight? Isn't her birthday tomorrow?" Iona questioned.
"Yes but by then the third round would start and we wouldn't get the chance to celebrate it. Which is why were doing it tonigh. Oh Rina is going to flip when she see's it." Star replied already picturing a surprised Rina in her mind.
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Find Ruby then get the cake. You'll have to call the place your ordered it from saying your picking it up a day early than usual." Iona informed.
"Right I'll get on that." Star replied as she got out her scroll and dialed the number. After about five minutes Star said her goodbyes and hung up the scroll.
"Alright they know that we're coming to pick it up. Let's get moving." Star said as the two first went to search for Ruby and for whoever else was left from her team.

It didn't take them long to find Ruby and it turns out that Blake decided to help out as well as the four of them began walking the streets of Vale toward the destination of the bakery. However Iona seemed noticed something tied on Blakes hair that looks like a red ribbon tied into a bow near the end of the hair.
"When did you get the bow Blake?" Iona asked which caught the faunus off guard a little.
"Um... actually... Ruby sort of gave it to me... as a gift." Blake said her face slightly blushed.
That confused them a moment but Star smirked a little well knowing what she meant.
"Well... I say about time. You two do make a good pair." Star replied which got both Ruby and Blake blushing a little.
"I'll say." Cinder's voice suddenly spoke out as the four of them jumped.
"Cinder! Don't do that! Scared us half to death you know!" Star shouted as Neo chuckled silently next to Cinder.
"I'm sorry I couldn't resist." Cinder said chuckling herself.
"Yeah I forgot how you like to scare us when we're not looking. Said it was to keep in mind of our surroundings." Star said.
"And it seems you still need the practice." Cinder replied.
"Oh no that doesn't count!" Star aruged back. However Neo tapped a message on Star's scroll.
"Yes it does." The message read.
"No it does not!" Star retorted crossing her arms as her tail wagged annoyingly and her ears pressed against her head. Cinder then proceed to pat the young fox on the head to calm her down.
"Alright I'm sorry that I scared you." Cinder said motherly which seemed to calm Star down a bit.
"So what are you four doing in Vale. Isn't your team participating?" Cinder questioned.
"Yeah. Pepper and Rina already headed up to the arena but we're here for something else." Star said.
"Oh and what is that?" Cinder questioned.
"It's a birthday cake for Rina. She's been acting moody lately so we thought we'd cheer her up with a birthday party." Ruby said with a smile. Neo however didn't look so happy more like worried and scared at what Ruby had just mentioned which Blake seemed to notice.
"Hey you okay?" The cat faunus asked but Neo didn't give an answer right away but just stood their with a nervous look as she bit the edge of her thumb like contemplating on what to do.
"Say you two want to join us. Perhaps after we get the cake we can go back to the dorms and decorate the lounge room to use for the party. Oh Rina is going to love it." Ruby beamed but Neo only facepalmed and shook her head.
"Well... Emerald and Mercury are in the doubles round so I don't see why not." Cinder replied. And with that the four now six headed off toward the bakery without delay.
=RWBY=
Meanwhile back at the team rooms Winter was currently pacing about a particular room that was Team RWBY's room. It wasn't hard to figure out which room Weiss was in since most team names take the first letter of you first name and make into a team name. And since Weiss started with a 'W' she knew where she was now the only problem was Winter summoning the courage to open the door and talk to her sister. It sounded simple but to her it was like trying to plug a tiny hole with a pebble.
A flap of wings came to her ears before being replaced with the sound of footsteps coming closer.
"I thought you would've left for Mistral." Raven said behind her.
"Not now Raven." Winter said as the cheers in the background could be heard.
"I thought Schnee's aren't suppose to show any signs of weakness. Wasn't that what he pounded into your head." Raven replied.
"Yes... but now looking back... I resent him even more." Winter said with a growl.
"Why don't you just open the door and say hi? Would be easier that way." Raven said.
"To you maybe but... Weiss hasn't seen me in a long time and I'm worried that... she might get angry with me and might not want to see me again." Winter said sadly.
Raven looked at the saddened Schnee with a thoughtful look before coming up with something.
"So then let her." Raven replied which shocked Winter.
"What do you mean?" Winter questioned.
"Let her get mad. Let her yell, shout, scream. Hell even let her throw a punch at you." Raven suggested which made Winter's eyes go wide.
"Are you out of your mind?!" Winter shouted.
"Nope." Raven said popping the 'p'.
"Trust me when I say it works. I'm not a perfect mom even me, Yang, and even to a point Ruby have our fights." Raven said as she flipped back her long black hair showing her the back of her neck showing a small burn scar.
"This was when Yang got really mad at me and threw a lit torch at me. Sure it was an accident but it still left a scar." Raven began before turning toward Winter again as she rolled up her left sleeve showing a smaller scar on her forearm
"This was when Ruby tried playing a prank but it ended up backfiring." Raven explained as she rolled it back down.
"All I'm saying is that no matter how angry she maybe at you she still loves you as a sister." Raven replied.
Winter took in Raven's words as they rang through her head and then with a calming breath she then nodded.
"Alright... I'll give it shot." Winter replied as Raven smiled.
"Okay then let's go in." Raven said as she knocked on the door.
"It's open!" Yang's voice called out as Raven opened it. The two noticed that Yang and Weiss were working on a battle plan for the doubles round.
"Oh hey mom. Decided to hang out huh." Yang replied as Raven nodded.
"Yeah. I want to be able to see my daughter in action." Raven replied.
Though however the moment Weiss laid her eyes on Winter she narrowed them into a glare as Winter only stood their in complete silence. The mother and daughter could tell that their was tension in the air between the two.
Winter however was the first to break the ice trying to put on a bright smile.
"Good morning sister." Winter simply greeted.
"It was till you came along." Weiss said sharply her words cutting through her sister like paper.
Winter sighed at this "Weiss I understand that you're angry with me but..." Winter started but Weiss stopped her.
"Angry. Oh I'm more than angry. Do you have any idea what kind of hell I've been through? Do you!?" Weiss shouted at Winter.
"Where were you when I need the most!? Absolutely nowhere!" Weiss shouted.
"He put me through literal hell. I have the scars to proof it as well." Weiss growled gesturing to her back which seemed to shock Winter.
"S-Scars." Winter stuttered.
Instead of telling her Weiss decided to show Winter. She removed her jacket and showed Winter her back showing her the many scars on her back. Winters heart skipped a beat as she noticed the scars on her little sisters back as she covered her mouth with a hand.
Even Raven was taken aback from the amount of scars on Weiss's back.
"I-I had no idea that he did this to you." Winter said.
Weiss turned back to face her sister "No you didn't because you were never their to support me!" Weiss shouted her tail thrashing behind her.
Winter noticed the tail as well which surprised her as well.
"How'd that happen?" Winter questioned.
"None of your business!" Weiss shouted making Winter glare at her.
"As your sister I would like to know about-" Before Winter could say anything more she felt her sisters fist connect with her left cheek as she fell to the ground surprised at the amount of strength in the punch.
Winter rubbed her cheek where Weiss punched her as Weiss looked down on her with tears in her eyes.
"You... don't deserve... to call yourself my sister. You abandoned me. You left me alone." Weiss replied trying to not to cry in front of Winter.
Winter however carefully got up from her spot rubbing the spot where Weiss punched her as she looked at her sister with a saddened look.
Weiss stood their a moment as a tear escaped falling to the ground. She suddenly felt a warming embrace as Winter wrapped her arms around her.
"I know that an apology doesn't change anything between us. I wish I knew about what was happening back in Atlas." Winter began.
"And you're right I don't deserve to call myself your sister. It is the job of the older sibling to look after their young sibling and I failed in that." She said as she let go of Weiss.
Weiss collected herself a moment as she wiped away a tear.
"What happened to you?" Weiss questioned.
Before Winter could answer the intercom came up.
"May the representatives of Team RWBY please make their way to the arena at this time." Port said.
"I'll tell you after your match. I'll be watching." Winter replied.
"Well hate to talk and run but we got to go. Wish us luck." Yang said as her and Weiss headed out. Weiss looked back a moment at Winter but this time with a smile giving her a nod as they walked to the arena.
=RWBY=
The arena was packed as the crowd waited for the next match to start.
"Welcome everybody to the doubles round of the Vytal Tournament. In this round only two members of each team can participate in the matches ahead." Port announced.
"However the rules are still the same. You must win by either diminishing your opponents aura or by knockout or by ringout. Let us begin in the second round." Oobleck said as Team RWBY and Team FNKI appear on the board.
"And it seems we have our first battle. Two members of these teams please step forward to the battle arena." Oobleck said.
Yang and Weiss walked from right side of the arena while their opponents on the left side. Weiss immediately noticed the two that were in front of them.
"Watch yourself. These two are going to be tricky." Weiss said.
"You know them?" Yang questioned as she extended her bracelets.
"Yeah. Atlas Academy students Flynt and Neon. One prefers distances while the other up close. Take a guess which prefers which." Weiss suggested as Yang looked over at their opponents.
Flynt was holding some kind of silver trumpet which seems heavily modified which a large open cylinder on the front. Then she looked toward Neons who had a pair of colored glowsticks in her hands that she seemed to be twirling around her tail swaying ready for action.
"Okay I think I got it now." Yang replied.
"Just keep an eye out for any surprises they do." Weiss warned as she unsheathed her gunblade.
"Sure. And Weiss." Yang started as her lilac eyes turned to Weiss.
"Let's have some fun okay." Yang said with big smile on her face.
Weiss smiled back giving her a gentle nod as the two readied themselves.
"Alright let's find out what field these two teams will be apart of." Oobleck said as the dials began to spin. A moment later they all stopped as the left side had a symbol of a flame while the right side had a snowflake symbol.
"It seems that this battle will be a battle between fire and ice. Which side will prevail." Port announced as the battle field changed. For the left it looked like a small mountain in the background but it was spitting out lava from the looks of it. Even the ground looked like they were standing in a lava field with pitch black ground along with multiple cracks as lava tried to escape.
For Weiss and Yang it was a literal ice field with spikes of ice were coming out of the ground along with icey slopes that look like make shift ramps and even the spikes look big enough to act as a defensive shield. The only problem was that the ice make thing slippery as Yang was already having trouble standing while Weiss seemed to not be bothered by it.
"This wasn't what I was expecting for this to be." Yang said trying to gain her footing.
"Calm down. This is made to trip us up so we'll need to be careful how we attack." Weiss said wisely.
"What do you mean how we attack?" Yang asked.
"The backfire from your weapon is more likely to blast you backwards if you fire it you'll trip yourself up and on this ice you won't recover as quick if you were on solid ground." The lynx faunus added.
"So what's the plan here?" Yang questioned but the only thing Weiss did was smirk.
"Let's use this part of the arena to our advantage." She added.
Yang returned the smirk knowing what Weiss was talking about.
"Alright now that's more like it." Yang said as she was prepared for the fight.
The buzzer rang throughout the battlefield signaling the start of the fight.
Immediately Flynt started to blow into his trumpet firing multiple soundwave attacks at the girls which seemd to be laced with a red hue around them. Meanwhile Neon using her roller blades to skate along the battlefield as she began skating at them at high speed leaving behind a cyan trail behind her.
For Yang instead of firing directly in front of her she threw a punch to her right which gave her a chance to dodge the soundwave attack coming at her while Weiss with a wave of her hand summoned glyphs making a trail as she used them to glide on going in to attack Neon.
Flynt increased the speed of his tune blasting more soundwaves at Yang but he couldn't seemed to hit her due to the spikes that were getting in his way while Yang was using the momentum of her attacks to move along the ice.
Meanwhile up in the stands Winter and Raven were watching them battle and Raven certainly seemed impressed.
"Wow. You would think having an ice field would put them at a disadvantage but that doesn't seem the case here." Raven said.
Winter nodded in agreement "They're already adapting to its surrounds and using it to their advantage. From what I can tell Yang is a more physical fighter so she's using the spikes on the arena as a shield to protect herself from the soundwaves. Impressive." Winter complemented.
"Was that a complement I heard from you? Wow guess you don't have an ice heart." Raven jabbed back.
Winter looked down well knowing what she meant "So what really happened? Why weren't you their for your sister?" Raven questioned.
"I... was tricked. When I was nine me and father were going to Mistral something about he need to check on border security. That was a lie. The moment we got their a car was waiting for us... for me." Winter began to explain sucking in a breath
"He said that I were to get in the car and that he'd signed me into a private school without even talking to me first. I had no say in the matter as I was being loaded into the car with all my things. Just before we left I saw Jacque pass the driver one thousand lien to keep quiet. That's when it came to me that he didn't care about me all he cared about was having an heir or heiress to takeover the company." Winter replied.
"So what made you become an attorny?" Raven asked.
"I didn't become one at first. First I joined the military but I didn't see combat or anything. More like a stayed in the office and dealt with legal matters." Winter started.
"A military lawyer. Impressive." Raven said.
"That's when I met Goodwin. He taught me everything he knew. Stayed their for about two years before someone with a bomb vest blew up the offices. Took some shrapnel to the leg and was given a medical discharge for it. However Goodwin had plans on opening up his own office in Mistral and wanted me to join him. After that the rest is history." Winter replied.
"I guessing your going to tell Weiss all of this after the fight right." Raven replied.
"Yes every last detail." Winter answered as the two went back to watching the fight unfold. Unknowing to Winter that someone was trying to reach her on her scroll with the ID saying C. Blood.
Back to fight as Yang had managed to leave the ice field and was now on the lava field as she charged at Flynt but Flynt used his weapon to blast more soundwave attacks as he blew into his trumpet this time being laced with ice dust which unleashed small ice shards at Yang. Not having time to dodge Yang raised her arms up in defense as she blocked them but her aura still took damage from the attack.
He then started playing different tune that seemed more fast paced as now lighting bolts started coming out of the trumpet zapping Yang in every direction taking more of her aura. However what Flynt didn't know was that he was only adding fuel to Yangs power little by little.
Weiss was having a much more trickier time with Neon as she fired at the cat faunus but Neon reflexes were too fast for Weiss to keep up as the girl simply flipped out of the way of Weiss shots.
"C'mon. You gotta aim." Neon taunted a little as she stuck her tongue out.
Weiss decided to try something different as she summoned solid blue glyphs around herself and with a wave her hand ice shards came out blasting the cat faunus but Neon cleverly dodged them without trouble.
However this time Neon decided to go on the offensive as she skated toward Weiss swinging her nunchakus at her. Weiss tried to block the attacks but the girls fast reflexs made it difficult to block the attacks as Neon managed to hit Weiss aura.
"Am I a little too fast for you? Sorry but I intend to win this." Neon replied.
"Well so am I." Weiss grunted as she pushed forward using the ice to extend her attack something that Neon didn't see coming as Weiss managed to hit her shoulder forcing Neon to back away from her.
At this moment Weiss took the opportunity to use her semblance but this time she used it to create ice skates on her feet.
"How about we try this again." Weiss said as she used her newly acquired skates to skate along the ice. Neon smiled at this as she used her roller blades to follow after Weiss as she bend her nunchakus like glowsticks as they started to glow a blue color.
The cat faunus jumped in the air as twirled her nunchakus before throwing them as the cord connecting them suddenly extended. The moment it touched the service of the area as ice suddenly shot out of the area it touched almost hitting Weiss as the lynx quickly avoided it.
"Yang a little help here!" Weiss shouted at her teammate.
"Be right their!" Yang shouted back as she launched herself toward Flynt going in pummel him.
But Flynt smirked as he easily dodged the punch at and activated his semblance. He split into four clones of himself as they surrounded Yang on all sides.
"Should've been more careful." The clones said as they all started blowing into their trumpet blasting Yang with a soundwave coming from all sides hitting Yang directly.
Yang tried covering her ears from the constent attacks as her aura was trying not to break.
Finally having enough of it Yang's eyes turned crimson as her hair flared to life. In a brief moment Yang removed her hands from her ears before slamming her fists on the ground causing a small explosion around her knocking Flynt back and his clones as they dematerialized.
Yang turned around and looked at her opponent a smile on her face.
Flynt tried to attack Yang again but this time she didn't let that happen as she blast forward with her weapons and knocking his trumpet out of his hands leaving him weaponless as she then went in for the kill delivering quick yet powerful punches at Flynt before punching hard enough to send him flying toward the other part of the arena.
"Weiss! Hail Storm!" Yang shouted as Weiss got what she meant.
Neon went to attack Weiss again but she didn't see Flynt come flying in at her as he collided with her knocking them both to the ground.
Weiss took the opportunity to use her glyphs to create of sphere of glyphs around them.
"Time to bring this fight to an end." Weiss said as the glyphs began firing ice shards all around them.
However Neon got up quickly and combined her nunchakus into a long staff just and began twirling her staff around blocking each ice shard the came from the glyphs.
Weiss watched this and decided to trying something else as she readied her best technique.
Weiss took in a breath as she held her gunblade upward.
"Yang get close." Weiss ordered as Yang got up to her side Weiss's glyphs were starting to shrink meaning they were losing power.
Weiss then turned her blade toward the ground and stabbed it into the ground as a gold glyph came underneath Yang and Weiss as the sounds of a clock turning backwards was heard.
In the stand Winter saw this in awe "She's mastered time dialation. To actually slow down time to a point. Not even I've mastered that technique. Impressive Weiss." Winter thought as she watched her sister.
To Weiss and Yang time seemed to slow down as they watched Neon blocked the last ice shard before the glyphs disappeared with Flynt getting up slowly.
"I can only do thirty seconds on this so we better finish this fast." Weiss replied.
"No problem we'll hit them hard before they even knew it." Yang said as they both charged at the two Weiss leaving her sword in the ground.
Even if they could react their movements have been slown Yang delivered quick punches to Flynt while Weiss using what training Pepper taught her used her palm to hit a palm strike under the chin and quickly attacking other parts of Neons body.
Once time was up everything returned to normal speed as Neon and Flynt suddenly felt multiple hits on them as their aura suddenly dropped rapidly until their auras completely broke.
"I'm not sure what just happened but it seems that Weiss and Yang are the victors as Team RWBY will be moving on to the next round." Oobleck replied.
Neon and Flynt got up from their spot wondering what happened to them only find out that they've been eliminated from the tournament but Neon had a big smile on her face.
"Okay that was fun! I totally didn't see that move coming. Guess that means if we meet again we'll have a rematch." Neon replied holding a fist out.
"Yeah I think we can do that." Weiss said returning the gesture with one of her own showing the sportsmanship as the crowd cheered at this.
"Well done sis. Well done." Winter said as she clapped along with the crowd as the battlefield reset.
=RWBY=
Elsewheres in the arena Coco and Fox were making sure that everything was in place as she dialed a number.
"Euryale. Do you have everything?" Coco questioned.
"Yessss. The general doesssn't even know a thing. Plusss we'll kill two birdsss with one ssstone." Euryale hissed.
"You really hate this Rina girl don't you." Coco said.
"Oh with what I have planned I'll make sure her life is in shambles when this is over." She replied with a slight chuckle at the end.
"And what of Carmen? Has she arrived." Coco added.
"Yesss but I have my doubtsss about her. Something that I don't like." Euryale hissed.
"Then we'll just keep an eye on her. If she tries anything well... you know what to do." Coco replied.
"For the will of our queen." Euryale hissed.
"For the will of our queen." Coco repeated as she hung up.
"Something up?" Fox questioned.
"We'll need to keep an eye on Miss Blood. Don't want any loose ends to be left behind." Coco replied.
"And what about Velvet? She's been getting suspicious lately. Should we take her out?" Fox asked.
"No. Let her get suspicious. After this is over she'll have a bit of food poisoning that will silence her completely." Coco said chuckling at the thought of her little rabbit squirming in pain before going motionless and lifeless.
"The time is nearly here." Coco added as she looked out in the distance knowing that grimm both from the air and ground were on the march toward Vale all thanks to their queen.
She also knew that Adam and his men were on the move to Vale as well which'll only attract more grimm to the city. Soon they'll claim the relic that is within Beacon academy but for now they must remain paticent.
