Fallout New Vegas: The Legion's Agent
The Ranger's Resignation
Six went back to the Fort where she made it just in time to stand up for Silus' defense in saying that the man revealed no information to his captors and he was better off alive than dead. Caesar was already pleased with McCarran's destruction so he let Silus go instead of crucifying him for his capture.
Six and Raul went outside the tent where Silus is waiting for them. The man bowed his head in respect to her as he said. "I thank you with all the gratitude in my heart and I owe you my life in for defending me in front of Caesar. If it were not for you, Caesar would have me executed. How can I repay you?"
Six thought for a moment then answered. "If you can gather a squadron, I'd like to use it to attack Camp Golf."
Silus beamed at Six. "If it means the blood of the Profligates to repay you, I will let you command it." Then he left.
Unknown to Six, Raul went inside during the conversation then out again. Raul reporter to her. "Boss, I should let you know that Caesar is ordering you to take out President Kimball at Hoover Dam."
Six looked over her shoulder and nodded. "I will have Lily and Ulysses take care of it. Let's head back to the Lucky 38."
Raul replied. "Right behind you Boss."
Six relayed Caesar's orders to Ulysses and Lily. The two went to an area near a deserted Ranger Station and meet up with Cato Hostillius as they rested for the night.
Ulysses disguised himself as a trooper while Lily became invisible. Ulysses used the computer terminal inside of the Dam's visitor center to mess with Bear Force One's (the president's Vertibird) flight computer. He also programmed the anti-arcraft gun to shoot down the Vertibird to increase the odds of success.
When Aaron Kimball finally arrived with his escort of two Rangers, Ulysses stealthily placed a Vertibird bomb underneath it. He stood among the crowd and when the President was about to start his speech. Lily appeared behind him and whacked him hard behind the head. The last thing he sees is the blunt part of Oh Baby! coming to his face.
Lily splattered the President's brains on the stage, horrifying many people. The President's guards attempted to shoot at her but Lily smacked them away, sending flying to their deaths off of the Dam. Several troopers and Rangers started shooting at her but she quickly used her Stealth Boy to hide from them.
She finally appeared and fired her CZ57 Avenger at the troopers, killing them all instantly. The rangers were smarter and took cover and fired back. Ulysses used his disguise to stealthily kill the rangers from their cover. The rangers were quick to realize that it was Ulysses and started to shoot at him. Lily continued to fire at them and Ulysses was agile enough to avoid their shots and used Old Glory in swiping them to Lily's line of sight, making them easy pickings for her minigun.
The rangers were ripped apart one by one until the last Ranger has his head blown off by minigun rounds.
Ulysses killed Jeremy Watson by shoving a C4 placed helmet on his head and then drop kicking him away, letting the poor private blow up. Lily killed Ranger Grant by using him as a human shield against the trooper guarding the entrance to the helipad and then throwing him to that trooper which she proceeded to splatter his brains off with Oh Baby!
Ulysses knocked Cassandra Moore's pistol away and the Colonel was forced to rely on a combat knife against him. Ulysses and Moore dueled it out but he used a Grand Slam on her and knocked her down, he slammed the tip of his staff at her stomach and then grabbed her by the hair before throwing her off the Dam.
With that done, Ulysses and Lily went back to the Lucky 38 where the former would send ED-E to tell his fellow Courier of the news.
Six and Raul met up with Silus and another Centurion whose armor looks similar to Lanius. That Centurion introduces himself. "Courier Six. I am Centurion Gaius Magnus, commanding officer of the Legion encampment at Dry Wells. I have been sent by Caesar to assist you in your endeavor. My squad is yours to command."
Six replied. "Gaius Magnus. I'm ordering you to equip your troops with gas masks and use these knock out gas canisters to subdue the rangers. Bind them but do not kill them, I'm going to have a conversation with the Chief."
When Gaius nodded, she went to Silus and ordered him. "Throw in some of these flashbangs at these troopers and kill them all."
Silus simply replied. "Consider it done."
The battle began at daylight at around 7 am. Gaius' troops knocked out the rangers and Hanlon with gas then tied them up inside of the Camp Golf resort. Silus' troops charged in at the tents. The troopers saw it coming but the Legionnaires threw flash bangs at them, temporarily blinding them. It was a brutal fight. The troopers stood no chance but surprisingly the Misfits held longer than most as they formed a strategic defense position and held out until the Legion's numbers overwhelmed them.
Overall, the troopers were easily killed. Sergeant McCredie managed to kill one Veteran and Recruit before dying. O'Hanrahan killed a Vexillarius before dying of being impaled by a machete. Poindexter shot a Recruit in the eyes before being shot himself in the head by a Veteran. Razz went into a psycho rush and killed three Redruits and one Veteran before being dying of overdose. Mags held out a minute longer and shot three Veterans in the head before being mortally wounded by Silus' Marksman Carbine to the torso.
Six walked to the camp and saw the corpses of the Misfits and a dying Mags, the bodies are piled together as well as the corpses of the Legionnaires. Six was impressed by that.
But then again, she was the one who trained them.
Six went to Mags and kneeled to her level. Mags asked, despite the faction opposition. "Hey..did we go good?"
Six smiled and replied. "You guys did great. If we weren't on the opposing sides, you'd get a promotion and the rest of your teammates would get an official commendation."
Mags beamed despite her injuries. "Thanks. We worked together because we had a great teacher and its you. Thanks for the training...it helped us a lot..."
Mags died and Six honored her by gently closing her eyes.
Silus snorted his eyes. "Why give that Profligate respect?"
Six simply answered. "Because the Misfits did well unlike the rest of the troopers you killed. They used my training well."
Silus' eyes narrowed at her. "You trained these Profligates? Caesar would have you crucified for that."
Six countered. "That was back before I received the mark of Caesar. I did plenty of things for the NCR, not in fighting against the Legion mind you, but I did some jobs here and there. I help people, it's what I do and there are many of people that need help. There are good people within the Republic that truly want to see the NCR rule Vegas."
Silus noted. "It sounds as if you respect them."
Six just shook her head as they continued to walk inside the resort. "I don't expect you to understand, Silus."
When inside, Gaius reported. "We have the rangers bound. What are your orders?"
Six said. "I want the rangers bindings removed and under heavy guard. Feed them a decent meal but if any one of them tries to escape to report to the NCR, have them crucified."
Gaius inquired. "And the Chief?"
Six replied. "Unbind him and I'll have a word with him in my office."
Five minutes later, Hanlon was freed and sat on the same chair in his office, the Courier in front of him. Raul behind her. Hanlon felt his age coming to him again when he heard of reports of Camp McCarran's destruction and President Kimball's assassination.
Hanlon started the conversation. "May I ask what do we need to discuss about?"
Six answered. "I suppose you already heard about Camp McCarran and President Kimball?" When Hanlon nodded, she continued. "I have a proposal that will benefit both of us depending on your point of view."
"I'm listening."
"You told me before when I confronted you about the false reports that the cost of holding Hoover Dam will be the price of many troopers and rangers. You even said that you were hoping to make the troopers think that holding it is a bad idea that the war with the Legion will be the death of all you. Like I said, I have a proposal: I want you to denounce the NCR and leave the Mojave."
"And how would we benefit from this benefit?"
"I will let you keep your weapons, ammo, armor and more importantly your lives. Not a single person under your command will be harmed while escorting you to the Mojave Outpost."
"And how would I tell the people back home about this?"
"You tell them that the Mojave is a suicide mission and I have given you a rather generous offer. If it were up to Caesar, he'd have your decapitated or crucified. To sweeten the deal, I'll give you something you can use while you're out West."
Hanlon liked the idea and replied. "I admit, this offer is considerably generous considering the fact that you're a part of the Legion. Your brother would've been proud of you."
Six was surprised. "You knew my brother?"
Hanlon nodded and smiled. "He used to chat me up in the radio inside his clinic back in Vault City. The guy often keeps me entertained in our conversations and asks about you often. Here I'll let you use my radio to talk to him."
Hanlon switched the knobs of the ham radio and Evan's voice came out. "Hey Roy! How's life out there in the Mojave? Bore yourself to sleep staring at the lake?"
Six stifled a laugh while Hanlon replied. "Evan, your sister's want to speak to you."
Six said through the microphone. "Hello brother."
Evan loudly said. "Miri! How's my sis doing? Delivered that package of yours yet? I may have to ask for a package of mine there to be delivered by the Express."
"I am well brother and I'm part of the Legion."
"Yes, every patient I treated has been talking about you. The President's assassination has been the forefront of every gossip and news around here. Good riddance to that guy, never liked his imperialist tendencies and his general buddy." Evan didn't sound surprised and he wasn't angry or disappointed. After all, he encouraged his sister to choose her own path.
"You should know that the chief and I had a chat and he agreed to my proposal to leave the Mojave with all of their material things."
"That's wonderful! I get to meet the man who won Hoover Dam and I get to treat Rangers. I won't ask you why you choose to side with the Legion but I'm glad that you made a non-violent solution. I'm proud of you sis, and so are our father and mother, I know they are."
"It's good to talk to you again after so long brother, but I have to go now."
"Goodbye sis. Keep up with doing wisdom over violence." Evan said his farewell and the the sound of a microphone being placed on the ground and then silence.
Hanlon smirked at Six. "I told you he'd be proud of you."
Six said. "I have something that he gave me that I know you'll make good use. Come now, let's tell the others." They stood up and left the office, Raul following them.
Raul commented. "As this rate, you could talk a Fire Gecko too if you could Boss."
Hanlon announced to the rangers. "Guys I'm not really good at doing these speeches so I'll make it short. The Courier offered us a generous proposal and I'm taking it because we get to go back home with our tail between our legs. As Chief of the Desert Rangers, I denounce the NCR and these imperialist folks Oliver and the late Kimball."
Six smiled. "You made the right choice Hanlon." She ordered Gaius and Silus. "Begin escorting them to the area near the Mojave Outpost. No harm is to come to them nor will their weapons be stolen from them but if they try to warn the NCR, they are to be executed."
Magnus didn't question it while Silus was skeptical but followed.
So began the exodus of the rangers from the Mojave Wasteland. The Legionnaires kept a close eye on the rangers walking from Camp Golf to the Outpost. The rangers were surprised but grateful that not only did Six let them keep their weapons and armor but she allowed them to leave without so much as a payment of be forced into the Legion.
Hanlon stayed behind to talk to six while the rangers went to the Outpost and glared at any NCR trooper there to not question them anything. Ranger Ghost was surprised to see them but after her fellow ranger explained what happened at Camp Golf, she decided to follow them, cursing Kimball.
Hanlon said to Six. "You've been good to your word and I thank you for it. You are nothing like Caesar."
Six smiled, Hanlon extended his hand and they both shook hands. Six pulled Hanlon a little closer, gave the man a holotap and whispered something to him. Hanlon's eyes went wide then nodded in approval.
After watching Hanlon leave, Six turned to Gaius and Silus and Raul and said to them. "Let us go back to the Fort and tell Caesar the good news."
Silus asked. "What was it you gave to that Profligate Ranger and what did you whisper to him about?"
Six answered. "Something that will work in our favor back West. Only Caesar can understand that."
They all went back to the Fort where Six thanked both of Centurions and allowed them to leave, even telling Silus that they're even now.
Six and Raul went to the tent where Caesar beamed at them. The man commented. "I heard from my spies that the mutant and Ulysses killed the President in full view of everyone. The fact that they killed all witnesses pleases me more and humiliates the NCR. You have chosen your companions well."
He added to the recent topic of the rangers leaving the Mojave which interested him. "I also heard from my spy that you let Chief Hanlon and the Rangers leave the Mojave with all their things? Is it true?"
Six replied unhesitatingly. "It is."
Caesar scowled at knowing that the man responsible for delivering a devastating blow at the Legion is still alive. "Why do that? Do you even know what he did at Hoover Dam? Why so such mercy to the Profligates? Why didn't you just crucify him?"
Six dodged Caesar's question. "I'll let you in a secret: Hanlon has been sending fake reports to the rangers in an attempt to cause instability without doing harm. He grew disillusioned with the NCR and when I made the proposal for him and his people to leave the Mojave, he accepted it."
Caesar decided to ask. "My spy tells me that you gave something to Hanlon and whispered something to his ear. What is it?"
Six answered. "It's a holotape that records Kimball's past military war crimes he committed here in the Mojave. Hanlon can use that incriminating evidence to broadcast it all over NCR territory while running for Senator. After that, the whole of the Republic will be thrown into chaos for a while as the people condemn him for the monster he is."
Caesar hummed at the beauty of it and didn't ask where she found the holotape from. "That's quite an impressive move you did there Courier, I'm quite pleased. However you've little time to rest as the battle for Hoover Dam draws nigh. Report to Legatus Lanius and take control of Hoover Dam from the Profligates. Either come back victorious or don't come back."
Six bowed and left with Raul in tow.
Raul says to Six. "This is gonna be the big finale Boss. Don't worry, I'm with you all the way." Six nodded as they are to prepare for the Second Battle for Hoover Dam.
