Chapter 8:

The humidity of New Orleans combined with the restlessness of the people walking up and down the Quarter, the music thrumming through the air made the two witches and the only werewolf smile as they walked down the street.

Elena was in a dress with thick straps and fell to her knees, showing off her miracle baby bump while Hayley was in maternity jeans and a flowing capped sleeve maternity top.

Davina was in a black dress that was knee length with thin straps and her hair pulled into a messy bun.

"Oh look over there!" Hayley shouted, as her companions couldn't hear her. "Look at the musicians!"

"Musicians are pretty cute," Elena told her as she and Davina were watching the fiddler. "But I prefer my piano player." She blushed as she remembered one evening when Elijah was teaching her to play the piano on their second date.

"Tim is really cute," Davina managed to say with flushed cheeks before she ducked her head and tried not to look at her friends. "He's really cute."

"You have a crush," Hayley said smiling. "We all had crushes once in our lives!"

"Who did you have a crush on?" Davina asked in a challenging way.

"Indiana Jones," Elena giggled. "Honestly though, who can blame her? I wanted to go on all those trips and see those places…but I did enjoy going through Europe."

"Next time we're available to go all of us can see Big Ben," Hayley promised. "We'll make it into an adventure with the kids."

"Can I come?" Davina asked nervously. "I've never been out of the states, much less New Orleans." She looked shyly at her hands as she mentioned how paranoid her mother was about her leaving.

Elena gave her a side hug.

"Who says we were going without you?" She asked her. "You're going to be coming with us and you will enjoy the sights and sounds of cheery ol' England." Elena did have a very good British accent.

"Damn this stupid festival," Kol grumbled as he tried to drive down the street to see where the three females were. "I just want them all to get out of my way!"

Jenna was watching the people in surprise and the thrumming of their pulses nearly sent her into overdrive but the bag of chips in her hands happened to be helping her cravings.

She eyed Moira who seemed to be on edge as she looked around, worriedly.

"I don't know if he's been around this many people," she fretted as she wrung her hands nervously. "It's been ten years since he turned but still…this many people? I remember when I played vampire and I got jittery just around the pulses." She nibbled on her lower lip.

"He'll be fine," Klaus told her. "If he has impeccable control like Elijah here-" he motioned towards his big brother, "then he's going to be fine."

"Then why is he on edge?" Jenna asked before shoving a few chips in her mouth and wishing she had nachos.

"His pregnant witch girlfriend," Katherine drawled easily as she ran a hand through Kol's hair in an effort to calm him down which worked. "She's feisty and basically in New Orleans-probably in this mess-and he's worried."

"If you were pregnant I can assure you that Kol would be in the same boat as Elijah and I," Klaus snarled as his eyes flashed amber. "Do you want me to take a chunk out of you again?" The threat lingered in the air around them and she shrunk in on herself as she absentmindedly rubbed the arm that he bit her. "Now shut up. You're annoying me."

"Can we at least have a peaceful car ride?" Marcel groaned as he heard all the arguments between them for so long that he was annoyed.

"You should know by now that there's no peace with the family," Elijah told him as his body was tense and he seemed to be watching the street with uncertainty. "Let me out right here that way, I can get to her quicker."

Kol would have argued but the look in his brother's eyes made him place the car in park and unlock the doors for him.

Hayley knew that a warlock who wasn't stealthy and made a motion to Elena about it. The witch began to smirk in a reminiscent way that Katherine Pierce would do. Grabbing Hayley's hand as well as Davina's she led them into a nearby alleyway and mouthed to Davina for her to hide.

Hiding behind the garbage cans the young witch watched as five warlocks entered the alleyway and glowered at the two pregnant women.

"Your kind shouldn't be here," one of them spat at Hayley who raised an eyebrow. "You know? Wolves." The way 'wolves' was said sounded like an insult and Hayley placed a hand over her heart.

"Oh I'm hurt," she drawled in a Klaus like fashion. "Then again…next full moon I could hurt ya." Her eyes flashed amber in her anger and Elena placed a calming hand on her arm.

"Oh of course you could kill them," the witch doppelganger said sweetly. "Not if I get to them first as no one hurts my family." Elena turned to look at them. "You warlocks are disgusting and deplorable." Her eyes were flames and her body began to shake. "Killing a young witch for some stupid ritual? Honestly? Deplorable." One of the warlocks ran at her and she sidestepped him, grabbing one of his arms and with as much strength as she had she pulled the arm out of the socket. "Don't test me or else I'll boil your blood in your veins."

Another warlock grabbed Elena by the neck only for him to have his neck snapped thanks to Hayley who broke the other arm of the downed warlock and Davina came out of hiding, ready to fight.

She made some motions with her hands and the other warlocks who were after her were suddenly in the air before they screamed but no one listened as the music drowned out the noise.

"Nice technique," Elena praised and Davina looked horrified before dropping them still alive but broken. "Davina?" The young girl looked at her with tears in her eyes. "I know that sometimes doing something wrong isn't right but think about what they could have done?" She looked down. "We could have been hurt or killed."

"Won't this stain my soul?" She asked in worry.

"Are they dead?" Hayley asked. Davina looked and shook her head. "The only one who is dead is the one I killed. Lena won't kill and if I know you the way I think I do then I doubt that these ones are dead."

"They're not," the three looked to see Elijah there. "Though they should be." His eyes darkened but as Elena went over to him, her arm on his chest he looked into her eyes. "Lovely they could have hurt you and the precious treasure you're carrying."

"They could have yes," Elena agreed. "But we fought back and the one that Hayley dealt with is the only one dead. The others are broken badly. Give them sedatives and place them in a hospital away from New Orleans."

"Anything for you precious," Elijah agreed before pulling out a phone and texting someone. "Kol will be here to get these men to some hospital and have them completely checked out but out of New Orleans." He grinned and ran a hand through her hair. "He and Katerina are thinking about going back to England but they might stay."

"What about Rebekah?" Hayley asked as she tossed the dead one into the garbage.

"She made a deal with Klaus," he murmured. "Until whatever needs to be settled here is settled then she won't leave for places unknown. Marcel will follow her."

"Did you find out how the potion was taken?" Elena asked and he nodded.

"Tyler," he said as though that should answer it but it didn't. "He wanted to have the Lockwood bloodline continue on but when we were in the Grille his plan backfired without him knowing and the Petrova/Mikaelson bloodlines are continuing."

"Was he dropped on his head when he was a baby?" Hayley asked with a slight groan in her voice. "Honestly? He's just…I don't know what to say anymore."

Kol watched from the shadows like a creeper his brother's doppelhim hug the mortal doppelganger and both seemed happy.

Blissful even when Kat walked over to him.

"Where do you want to go?" She asked him and he grinned at her.

"How about San Francisco?" He asked and she nodded, her fingers entwined with his.

"Bonnie made me that same potion she was working on," the five hundred year old doppelganger whispered. "I never got to hold my daughter so I was wondering…"

"About me and kids?" He asked and at her nod he smiled sadly. "I was almost married to a woman who was expecting my baby but she and the baby both died of illness." His eyes were far away. "I wondered what that child would be like and then a few weeks afterwards is when Henrik died and we were turned."

Katherine squeezed his hand.

"I spent fifty years wondering about my daughter before I shut it off," she whispered honestly. "I couldn't stand seeing mothers and daughters, knowing that my chance was ripped from me viciously."

He pulled her into his arms.

"It won't happen again," he whispered fervently. "We will have a family and live happily. Anywhere you want or even here in New Orleans."

She didn't know why but she felt drawn to Kol and five centuries earlier she felt it then.

"I want forever," she told him. "New Orleans, England. Anywhere. Everywhere as long as we're together."

Elena smiled as she curled into Elijah's arms, his chin on her head.

"I think we're having a boy," she whispered softly and he smiled. "It's something that my mom and grandmother taught me." She grinned as she looked into his eyes. "They said that if women are having boys then the bumps are lower and if the women are having girls then the bumps are higher." He placed a hand on her bump.

"Is there another way to find out?" He asked and she nodded.

"A piece of string tied around a piece of sodalite and see which way the rock spins," she told him. "We can do it tomorrow and it could be something for Moira to learn as all young Petrova girls should know it." She kissed him before placing her head on his bicep.

"Then we do it tomorrow and plan out a nursery," he mused. "Though I have been reading some books on babies," he motioned towards the piles of books for parenting. "Parenting nowadays is different then it was a thousand years ago." He grinned. "So the baby can't sleep in a crib for awhile?"

"Yes," she told him. "My parents have been teaching me about parenthood since you and your siblings left," she reminded him as he looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "So basically the first twelve months the baby sleeps in a bassinet next to the parents bed-or on it like my mother mentioned-and they love skin to skin contact."

"What about half vampire babies?" He asked as he nuzzled her head.

"I'm waiting for that book to come out and I believe that the best writer could be you," she mused as she kissed his bare chest. "I'm pretty good but you seem to be better than me at that game."

"I'll only make copies for the family," he whispered. "But I've read your romance novel." She blushed and he smirked into her hair. "Quite steamy in some places in it."

"Elijah," she murmured. "You weren't supposed to read the entire thing! Just a few snippets."

"After those snippets I began to…crave," he breathed the word and grinned at her shiver, "the rest of the story."

Hayley smiled as she was sitting on the bed, her fingers running through the Original Hybrid's hair.

"You letting Rebekah and Kol live a life away from you and Elijah is a good thing," she whispered. "They need to have lives and maybe one day families but they will come back."

"I've been a monster," he admitted as he stopped her hand. "I've never…I've never felt like I belonged with anyone but Elijah had been by my side even when I neutralized him." He looked her in the eye. "He and Finn were the ones who taught me how to fight and defend myself and after we turned and Finn ran off Elijah never left me. He stood by my side and even when he was poised to kill me he didn't. Even after tricking him he never tried to hurt me, wanting to find my redemption and what humanity I have left." He rubbed her hand. "I think that after a thousand years of loneliness we both found what we were looking for-acceptance, redemption and love."

"You don't want to be abandoned," she murmured. "You won't. Even if Kol and Rebekah never visit you will have me, you will have Elijah, Elena, Moira and the rest of us." She smiled and kissed his lips lightly. "You will have our baby-which I believe is a girl."

"You swear you won't betray me or my heart?" It was in this moment both the werewolf and the Hybrid King showed just how vulnerable they were.

"I'm not Caroline," she breathed softly. "I won't betray your trust and your love. I've been abandoned and betrayed by my first set of adopted parents. It took me a while to even open up to Lena's family and I'm still trying to open up. To be vulnerable."

"We can do this together then," he whispered. "I'll never hurt you in any way."

AN: This chapter wasn't the easiest but it wasn't the hardest to write though I've been working on one of my own stories (and editing parts of it) as well as waiting for edits from a friend for part one
