"No. Nuh-uh. No way." Zephyr shook her head furiously, "We can't climb all the way up there!"
"We have to if we want to get home." Darryah said, "Besides, maybe it isn't as far away as it looks!"
Zephyr looked up the mountain, then turned to her sister and raised an eyebrow.
"Ooookayy, maybe it is a bit high, but we can make it!" Darryah smiled awkwardly.
"Well if we want to make it up there before dark we better get going!" Astrid said.
Hours passed, and the little group was only about halfway up the mountain. Nuffink had been whining for the past ten minutes so everyone decided to take a break. Hiccup pulled some food from the saddlebag and passed it around. Everyone accepted it and ate.
Astrid then turned to face the three kids. She could definitely see Hiccup and her in them. She smiled, then she thought...
"What are we like?" Astrid asked.
Zephyr turned her head, "What are you like? Well..."
"No don't!" Darryah slapped a hand over Zephyr's mouth, "They already know to much."
Zephyr's eyes widened the she nodded. It was better to play it safe. And she knew her dad wouldn't want to hear that his father died. Not the best thing to learn from the future. She also knew that he wouldn't want to know that the dragons are no longer around anymore. He would definitely try to do something to change time. Zephyr knew she would if she were him.
After eating, they all continued their trek up to the highest peak. The dragons strength grew over time and soon, they were all riding on their backs, just on the ground, not flying. The trail narrowed as they ascended higher and higher. A wall of clouds made it harder to see, so Toothless had to light a near by stick and Hiccup went ahead, using it as a torch.
It had begun to get very cold. Too cold. The blankets weren't enough to keep them warm.
"Hiccup, a-we have to stop. We need to find a near by cave or something..." Astrid said, shivering.
"But we're so close!" Zephyr called from behind, "Just a little big further then we'll be there! We can't stop now!"
"Zeph..." Hiccup started then stopped. Where did that come from?
"Z-Zephyr it's t-too c-c-cold." Darryah's teeth chartered, "We need to stop."
"No!" Zephyr crossed her arms, "I can see it from here! We're almost there!"
Wow, Astrid thought, she's just as stubborn as Hiccup!
Zephyr was content on going forward, but Hiccup saw that she was cold too. As much as she tried to hise it, she was shivering as well.
"We c-can make it." Nuffink said. He buried himself in his blanket, "L-let's keep going."
"Nuffink we have to stop." Darryah said, "Zephyr, come on, you know we're not going to make it up there in this condition..."
Zephyr shook her head. She had enough. She wanted to go home. She missed her parents, her own bed, and all of her friends. This silly little freezing temperature isn't going to stop her from getting home.
Darryah started to get annoyed, "Zephyr, we can't keep going. This isn't all about you! We're all freezing! Nuffink looks like he has a cold, we have to find shelter!"
"You don't have to tell me what to do!" She shot back, "You ten, I'm twelve! I'm older, what I say should go!"
"But your willing to risk everyone's health here just for a dumb flower?" Darryah screamed.
"Guys stop!" Astrid yelled, everyone turned to face her, "We're all tired ok?! Let's just go duck into that cave over there, and take a break! Are we clear?"
Everyone nodded.
"Good." She steered Stormfly toward the cave. Everyone followed pursuit.
Darryah managed to collect a few sticks before snuggling up with Nuffink, using each other's body heat to keep warm. And as Darryah predicted, Nuffink had a cold.
"I'm fine." He said, then sneezed.
"No, your not fine. We may have to end up staying here a bit longer..." Hiccup said.
"But we have to get to the-" Zephyr started.
"Zephyr we know, we all want to go home. But Nuffink's sick. We can't risk it." Astrid said softly.
Zephyr bruied her face into her arma, shivering from the cold. Evergem curled up around her, trying to help her warm up. Zephyr pulled herself into the dragon and sighed. She turned to face Nuffink.
"I'm really sorry Nuff." She said, "I just...really miss home."
"I do too." He said sadly.
"Same here." Darryah said, then her eyes widened and she jumped up "I got an idea!"
"What is it?" Hiccup asked.
"Well, since we're already near the top off the mountain, why don't two of us go fly up and grab the flower, then bring it down here?"
"But we need water." Zephyr reminded her, "We have to throw it into water once we make our wish."
Everyone heard the faint sound of rushing water in the cave. Zephyr peered down into the darkness.
"Oh come on..." Hiccup and Zephyr said in unison. They looked at each other and laughed.
"Father like daughter!" Astrid smiled.
Hiccup volunteered to fly up to the top. Astrid decided to stay with Nuffink and Darryah. Nuffink's cold would get worse outside, so Zephyr tagged along.
As they flew higher and higher, Zephyr grew warmer and warmer. Guess they were leaving the cold area. They finally landed at the top and Zephyr gasped.
The mountain top...looked exactly like the field where she first found that flower. She blinked twice to see if she was dreaming.
Nope. Totally awake.
"Are you ok?" Hiccup asked, seeing how pale the girl had gotten omce they made contacted with tbe groumd.
"Th-this place..." she whispered, "This is where I found the plant in the first place. It was in a field, exactly like this one."
Hiccup set a hand on her shoulder, "Look. I promise. We'll get you, Darryah, and Nuffink home safely."
"Thanks." Zephyr smiled softly.
"So...what does this Yearn Flower look like anyway?" Hiccup looked around at all the plants in the area. The dragons had already taken a liking to the plants and began to bat and swat at them with their claws.
"Well, Darryah said that it changes it's appearance except for the faint, misty blue glow that radiates off of it. Last time I saw it, it was a dandelion. White with blue tips."
Hiccup nodded, then began to look through the tall grass of plants for a flower fitting the description Zephyr had gave. They searched for hours and found nothing. They even looked in the very spot where Zephyr had found it. It was gone.
"Let's try the other flowers." Hiccup suggested. Zephyr nodded.
Soon the sun began to set. Zephyr and Hiccup were leaning against their dragons an let out sighs of disappointment.
"We're never getting home.." Zephyr said sadly.
Hiccup opened his mouth to say something, but a faint hint of blue caught his eye. He turned and saw the most beautiful Dahlia he had ever seen. It was a light shade of sky-blue. The petals went from blue, to almost white, a soft, sparkling blue glow filled his vision.
"Zeph...I found it!" Hiccup said happily. Zephyr looked up and saw her dad holding up a newly formed Yearn Flower. She smiled.
"This is great! We can finally go home! Thank you!" Zephyr didn't realize she was hugging her father until he returned it.
"Let's go back and tell the others!" Zephyr clapped. She leapt onto Evergem and was headed down the mountain as fast as she could. Once she spotted the cave entrance, she held out the plant proudly.
"No way, you found it?!" Darryah smiles.
"Yay!" Nuffink yawned. He must of woken up from a nap. He looked better already. He still had a runny nose and he may have to see a hesler when they get back, but at least he was feeling better.
"Yep! We're going home tomorrow!" Zephyr announced. Nuffink clapped his hands, Darryah cheered, Astrid and Hiccup smiled.
Zephyr sat down and laid against Evergem. She smiled to herself. They were going home.
They were going home.
WOOHOO! They're going home again!
