Persona 5: New Testament

Chapter 8

Wednesday, April 13

Shujin Academy

Morning

Shin was in his class. He was thinking back on the pictures of the men he had seen. The associates Kobayakawa's Shadow spoke of. The politicians, the people in the police, and even those of the criminal underworld, be it Yakuza or con men. Those associates of his propelled him into his position. Shin could never get that out of his head. Who were these men? Why did the Principal get involved with them? What sort of deal did he make with them? What did he do to get their support? Would they really cut Kobayakawa loose if he were to be exposed along with Kamoshida?

"Shin!" Ushimaru yelled, "Class is in session!"

The teacher threw a chalk stick at him. Shin caught the stick. Everyone looked at him with amazement.

"Dude… he caught it…"

"Does he have the hands of God?"

Little did anyone except for anyone who could see a Persona, he had Abel's right arm manifest over his right arm and caught it.

Police Department

Morning

Kunio Ito and Tomohiro Narasaki had arrived at the station that they transferred to. Waiting for them was Ryo. Ryo knew Ito and Narasaki well. He worked with them in the past, though these two were not exactly friendly nor trusting of Ryo for covering up the reverse cases in Ayanagi. For Ito, his mistrust for Ryo goes beyond that. Ito did not like Ryo personally because of how Ryo often used his subordinates. Most of his subordinates had contracted Apathy Syndrome thanks to Ryo's orders. Narasaki did not exactly trust Ryo because of how suspicious his behavior was during the reverse cases in Ayanagi.

Eventually, Ryo explained to them why he had covered them up and why he did what he did. The cases were being caused by Persona users using Personas to consume the Personas of others. This was all a shock to them, but when they found out the truth, they swore to secrecy. It was better that way. The public just were not ready to know about the existence of Personas.

But their opinion on Ryo has not changed. They prefer to know what was going on and that Ryo was not hiding anything.

"So, the Marebito have decided to rear their ugly heads in Tokyo, Huh?" Ito asked, "So when the hell is Sanada-san going to get here?"

"When I called him, he said he'd be here in a week." Ryo said, "I'd say he will be in Tokyo by the 18th of April."

"So, one week after your brothers start school." Narasaki said, "Guess we'll have to find ourselves some Persona users."

"Don't bother, I can handle that." Ryo said, "There is one person on my mind that we can recruit early. She's currently in Tokyo."

"She?" Ito asked, "Who is it?"

"Yumi Tasaka." Ryo said, "She's currently a third year at Shujin Academy, I'll come into contact with her when I get the chance."

"And what are we doing?" Ito asked.

Ryo handed Ito a file with documents in it.

"Read the documents." Ryo said before he walked out.

"Tch… ass." Ito said, "He hasn't changed."

"Yeah… he obviously hasn't changed." Narasaki said.

Shujin Academy

After School

"So, everything Kobayakawa said about his associates was true…" Shin said, "He really does have connections to politicians, the Yakuza, and even the police."

"There are also con-men involved." Jun said, "With these names, we could put Kobayakawa in jail."

"Yeah… I guess." Shin said.

"I found you at last!" A voice said.

"Huh?"

Shin looked to see a girl with glasses. She had a camera around her neck.

"Gah! Who are you?!" Shin asked.

"Oh, me? I'm from the newspaper's club!" The girl said, "You can call me Tene Zazuno, first year! And I am a bonafide journalist!"

"..."

"..."

"..."

"No, you're not." Shin said.

"Yes, I am!" She pouted, "You're Shin Kanzato, right?"

"That's me…" Shin said, "This is my brother, Jun."

"Hey." Jun said.

"So, what do you want with me?" Shin asked.

"Well I heard you're from Ayanagi, is that true?" Tene asked.

"Yeah, I am." Shin said, "Why do you ask?"

"Well I just transferred from Ayanagi." Tene said, "It's good to know that there those who come from home attending this school."

"Yeah… at least there's that." Shin said, "I thought me, and Jun were the only ones from Ayanagi who came here at first."

"I had that feeling too." Tene said, "It's a good thing I found you."

"Right…" Shin said.

"Oh, and there are rumors floating around you." Tene said, "First and foremost is that you might have a relationship with Shiho Suzui."

"HUH?!" Shin exclaimed.

"Yeah, turns out, you know our student council president and she has seen you with her in the courtyard." Tene said, "She's uh… kinda upset with you, seeing as how she told me you knew her when you two were childhood friends."

"Mako-chan told you?!" Shin exclaimed, 'DAMNIT!'

"Mako-chan?" Tene asked, "Oh my god… could you be in a—!"

"NO!" Shin said, "Look, Mako-chan and I are good friends! That's all there is to it!"

"Hm… I don't know about that one." Tene said, "There's also this rumor that your older brother is in the police department, is that true?"

"Oh yeah, he's in the police department alright." Shin said, "Is that all?"

"Oh no, there's also that transfer student with the criminal record." Tene said, "Is there a history between you two?"

"Oh, that one is easy!" Shin said, "He may seem scary, but he's a nice guy."

"Really?" Tene asked.

"Just ask him." Shin said.

"Hm…"

She wrote it all down in her notebook.

"Alright, I'm off!" Tene said, "Thanks for the interview!"

'I didn't even ask for one…' Shin thought.

She took off. Shin sighed.

"Paparazzi…" Shin said, "Well… I guess we did everything we could here."

"I'll head home and tell Ryo." Jun said.

"In the meantime, I'll go to the Art Club." Shin said.

The two split up.

Shin went to the art club room. Kirane was waiting for him.

"Heya Shin! Here to make another painting?" Kirane asked.

"Yeah," Shin said as he got his painting materials, "I got an idea for a masterpiece."

Shin began to paint on the canvas. He had been thinking about Ryo's Persona, Cain. Cain was an imposing Persona. Shin could never forget how imposing it was. When he saw its power for the first time, it was like he was looking at a mountain. His brother was certainly leagues ahead of him in terms of sheer power. He wanted to leave the feeling of power within those who would look upon it. He wanted to etch that feeling into the people who would see it.

'And done…'

He made a portrait of Cain. Kirane took a look at it.

"Wow… this… this screams power… motivation…" Kirane said, "This is… beautiful."

Shin scratched the back of his head, blushing.

"You don't have to make me blush…" Shin said.

"You make amazing art!" Kirane said, "I can't help but love it!"

"Geez, Kirane…" Shin said, "You know, at times, I guess I should be glad that I got my artistic talent from my mom and dad. They did make a painting that would also be put on a children's book about whale feathers or something like that."

Kirane looked shocked.

"You… Your mom and dad made that book?!" Kirane said, "I… I own a copy of it!"

"Wait… you do?" Shin asked.

"Yeah!" Kirane said, "I loved reading it when I was a kid! It brought me so many memories!"

"Oh god…" Shin said.

Kirane began to rant on about the book. Knowing she had a copy of that book was enough to make him feel embarrassed about it. He was glad that the book was a success but knowing that Kirane had that book made him feel more embarrassed. The girl was so full of energy.

"... and that is why I like that book a whole lot!" Kirane said, "Did you get all of that?"

"I think I lost myself in the embarrassment." Shin said, "I'll be going now…"

"Ok, later, Shin!" Kirane said.

Shin got out to the entrance. He saw Ryo talking to a girl. She seemed to be a third-year student at his school. Ryo noticed him. He motioned her off. She went through the alley.

"Ryo, who were you talking to?" Shin asked.

"It doesn't matter, get in the car." Ryo said.

"Right." Shin said.

Shin got in the car with Ryo. Ryo drove away from the school.

"So, Bro, what's up?" Shin asked.

"I have two coworkers from Ayanagi join me in Tokyo. I want you to meet them in person." Ryo said, "They're good detectives who worked with me when I was investigating the reverse cases in Ayanagi."

"Really? They worked with you?" Shin asked.

"Yes, and a Persona user I know will be coming on Monday." Ryo said, "His name is Akihiko Sanada."

"Another Persona user… Akihiko Sanada…" Shin said, "What's he like?"

"In combat, he's basically an entire squad of soldiers. He can't be beat in physical combat. He has experience in boxing. His Persona boasts great physical strength and proficiency in lightning-based magic." Ryo said, "He's quite intelligent. He is serious and determined. He's aggressive even when we're in combat."

"But what about his hobbies or whenever he's not in the field?" Shin asked.

Ryo was silent.

"He trains by himself very frequently. He makes his own protein shakes and drinks them. He usually buys steak and eats beef bowls." Ryo said, "He… He likes protein."

'A little too much protein…' Shin thought, "Wait, does that mean that Sanada guy is here?"

"No, he'll be here on Monday." Ryo said, "When he gets here, you and the other Persona users will train you Personas under him."

"Right." Shin said, Training our Personas…'

Kanzato Household

Shin got home with Ryo. When they got to the house, Shin saw two men by the door. One man was wearing a green suit. He had short black hair. His eyes were gray. There was another man wearing a black suit. He had short fuzzy black hair. He was slightly taller than the man in the green suit and Ryo.

"Ito-san, Narasaki-san, this is my brother, Shin." Ryo said.

"Huh… so that's the chief's little brother, Huh?" The man named Ito said, "Kunio Ito, nice to meet you."

"Tomohiro Narasaki, A pleasure to meet you." Narasaki said, "I was hoping we'd meet you."

"Did you read the file like I asked?" Ryo asked.

"Yes sir, we did." Ito said, "Now can you let us in?"

Ryo opened the key panel and input the codes. The lock was open, and they entered the house. It was Shin's turn to make dinner. He went to work with a recipe his mother taught him. It was a recipe that involved rice with chicken. His mother always served this for dinner. He took his time making the dish.

"So, all the victims are high school students…" Ito said, "Some of them are first year students, some are second year students, and some of them are third year students."

"They must have been on the Marebito's list of circulated special A latencies." Narasaki said, "Some of the bodies were found to have been partially devoured. The Marebito must be using something to clean up the messes they leave behind."

"Hm… any thoughts Ryo?" Ito asked.

Ryo was silent.

"Shin, when you found that body, what else did you find?" Ryo asked.

Shin was silent.

"He's still cooking, Ryo," Ito said, "You can't expect him to answer almost immediately after you—"

"A monster." Shin said, "I saw a monster eating the body."

Narasaki looked shocked.

"A monster?" Narasaki asked.

"You haven't watched a horror film before you came to Tokyo, right?" Ito asked.

"No… it was real." Shin said, "When it attacked me, I… my Persona awakened and—"

"You killed it." Narasaki finished.

"Yes." Shin said.

"Well what did it look like?" Ito asked, "Anything out of the ordinary?"

"Well… I made a sketch of it." Shin said, "I even have a model of it."

"Can we take a look?" Narasaki asked.

"Yeah, let me just finish cooking." Shin said.

He continued to cook until he finished cooking the meal. He puts the rice and the chicken on the plates and passes them around.

"Thanks for the meal." Ito and Narasaki said as they put their hands together.

Ito raised a brow at Ryo.

"Thanks for the meal." Ryo said with as much of a cold tone as possible.

"Geez Ryo, did you forget your table manners now?" Ito asked.

"I'm used to living on my own." Ryo said.

"Right…" Ito said.

Shin went upstairs to his room. He got his sketchbook and headed down. He brought the book to the officers. They flipped through the pages until they saw what appeared to be a two headed beast. It was the one that Abel had destroyed.

"That's the one." Shin said.

"Geez… that is one ugly bastard." Ito said.

"And you're sure it looked like this?" Narasaki asked.

"Yeah…" Shin said, "I could never forget what I saw."

How could he forget? There was no way to get rid of that image from his mind no matter how hard he tried. It was etched into his mind. He could never forget. Not in a million years.

"Hm… any ideas as to what it means?" Ito asked.

"It could mean that the Marebito are stepping their game up." Narasaki said, "They must be trying to keep themselves hidden, but why?"

"They must be biding their time." Ryo said, "That's what I'd do if I wanted to throw the whole nation's capital city into chaos."

"That's bad, ain't it?" Ito asked, "And just when these freak accidents begin to happen…"

"Wait, what about those freak accidents? Maybe the two are connected." Narasaki said.

"That depends on how they are connected." Ryo said, "Shin, focus on your schoolwork."

"Right." Shin said.

Shin was doing his schoolwork. He still could not stop thinking about Shiho.

'Shiho…' Shin thought, 'If Kamoshida is abusing you, just hang on… just hang on until I figure something out…'

He continued doing his schoolwork. He kept working until he was done. He got into his bed and slept.

The next day…

Thursday, April 14

Morning

Shin was on his way to school with Jun until he saw a black cat wandering around on its own. He saw it walking about in the street. He rushed over to the cat. The cat looked at him almost immediately.

"Wait… you…" The cat spoke.

Shin and Jun yelped.

"M-Morgana?! I-Is that—! Is that you?!" Shin asked, "Y-You turned into a—!"

"Say it, and I scratch your face." The cat said, "Still, you adapt pretty fast."

It was Morgana. There was very little room to doubt. But now that got him wondering why Morgana was here.

"Why are you here?" Shin asked.

"I'm looking for a certain frizzy haired dude with a blondie." Morgana said.

"Ren and Ryuji?" Jun asked.

"I'm assuming that's the two I just mentioned." Morgana said.

"Yeah, just let me put you somewhere where no one can see you." Shin said.

Shin grabs Morgana and stuffs him into his bag.

"There we go." Shin said, "No one will even notice."

"Ok, but did I have to get stuffed in here?!" Morgana asked.

"Hey, keep it down. We may be able to hear what you're saying, but if I'm right about this, anyone else who hasn't been to that world will only hear a cat meowing." Shin said.

"I am not a—!"

"Did I just hear a cat?"

"See?" Shin asked, "No shut it."

Shujin Academy

Morning

Shin got to school. He lets Morgana out of the bag.

"You'll find Ren and Ryuji inside." Shin said, "Now remember, be quiet or the teachers will throw you out."

"Ugh, fine…" Morgana said.

Shin and Jun rushed off to the school.

Classroom 2-A

Morning

"I wouldn't go near the PE faculty office. I've been hearing rumors of screams going on in there while nobody is in it."

'The PE faculty office? Interesting… I'll have to check that out…' Shin thought.

"Hey! Class is still in session!" Chouno said.

'Geez, she is loud…' Shin thought.

After School

Shin was going near the PE faculty lounge. It was on the end of this side of the second floor. He saw Shiho go in there earlier, but now he was worried that something was about to happen there. He summoned Abel and had him phase through the door. He saw Shiho alone with Kamoshida.

'Kamoshida and Shiho? Wait…'

He scanned Shiho's body and noticed—!

'Bruises?!' Shin thought, 'That monster!'

Now that he looked at Kamoshida, he was looking angry.

"You know, I may have to remove you from the starting lineup, Shiho." Kamoshida said, "Seems like Ann doesn't care about you at all."

'So that's how it works!' Shin thought, 'This must be how he targets the girls! He takes advantage of their emotions and turns them against each other!'

"N-No! Y-You can't—!"

"Oh, but I'm not done." Kamoshida said, "I've been hearing rumors that you've been hanging around the Principal's little Boy Scout. Hell, you two might just be in a relationship."

He could hear the anger and jealousy in Kamoshida. He did not like where any of this is headed.

"We aren't—!"

"Oh, don't give me that bullshit." Kamoshida said, "You may get me thinking that there isn't a relationship between him and you at all, but that still doesn't excuse what happened at practice the other day."

'Practice… as if.' Shin thought.

"Please—! No!"

"Oh no, you left me with no choice Shiho." Kamoshida said, "Someone has to put you in your place!"

'Shit!'

Shin had Abel turn around and turn the handle on the door as he heard Shiho struggling. The door lock sounded off. Shin had Abel come back before Shin forced the door open. He saw Kamoshida pinning Shiho to a table. Kamoshida looked at Shin with anger in his eyes. Shin stepped inside and closed the door, hearing it lock.

"So, guess that explains the rumors." Shin said.

"S-Shin!" Shiho said.

He looked at Shiho. She had tears coming out of her eyes as she was sobbing.

"So this is how you sexually harassed your girls." Shin said, "You target their emotions and pit them against one another, dividing them so it's easier for you to take advantage of them. It's pathetic. I actually expected you to be better than that."

Kamoshida tossed Shiho to the side. Shiho skirted off to the corner of the office.

"Shin… no… run…" Shiho sobbed.

"No can do, Suzui-san." Shin said, "I can't run. I can't let this go on any longer. I'm putting an end to it."

"Bold words coming from someone who doesn't realize the shit he's in." Kamoshida said.

Shin sighed.

"Geez Kamoshida, I really expected an Olympic athlete to be way better than this." Shin said, "Do you have a history of not meeting people's expectations?"

Kamoshida had a twitchy eyebrow.

'I see…' Shin thought, 'So that must be the true motivation behind his actions…'

"Now you listen here, you piece of shit—"

"No, you listen to me." Shin said, "I know everything behind your actions now. It's so clear to me that it's a miracle no one has figured it out."

"Do you now?" Kamoshida asked, cracking his knuckles, "What do you have on me?"

"That you are an inadequate man who is afraid of having to meet expectations." Shin said.

Kamoshida's face started to look more… confused.

"Being an Olympic athlete, it's only natural for people to put their expectations on you. These kinds of athletes are constantly under the pressure of either looking bad in front of their own countrymen or looking bad in front of the world. Sometimes, it's both." Shin said, "And in your case, it was certainly both."

Kamoshida started to look anxious.

"I… I don't know what you're talking about." Kamoshida said.

"I know what I'm talking about." Shin said, "Name every sport aside from volleyball in which you got a gold medal for!"

Kamoshida was sweating a lot. He began darting his eyes around the place.

"Uh… Um… I… t-there was um… uh… gymnastics! Yeah! Gymnastics!" Kamoshida said, "I even got a medal for um… the uh… Javelin Throw and the uh… um… uh…"

"Show me the medals." Shin said.

"W-What?" Kamoshida asked.

"Show. Me. The. Medals." Shin said, "I want proof you got medals for those."

"I… I… I left them at home!"

"No, you didn't." Shin said, "You didn't get any gold medals for any of those sports."

Kamoshida began to cower before Shin. Kamoshida was sweating bullets.

"The only sport for which you got a gold medal in was Volleyball, am I wrong?" Shin asked.

"S-Shut up! Y-You don't know me! You know nothing!"

"Then show me the medals." Shin said, "Out with it."

"I—! I left them at home!"

"Liar." Shin said, "You don't want to admit to how much of a failure you are. You can't even admit to how conspicuous the abuse and the sexual harassment is."

"I-I'm not a failure! I got Shujin into the nationals!" Kamoshida fired back, "What the hell are you—?!"

"Oh yeah, you did, by cheating." Shin said, "You knew the team was full of jellyfish. They wouldn't win against strong opponents, so you cheated by sabotaging the other teams."

"Y-You—!"

"I expected your methods to be far more inconspicuous, but all you've done is disappoint me at every turn." Shin said, "Ann said something about a rumor which would explain why she isn't popular with the guys. You couldn't have come up with a way better rumor than that one. You smacked that kid in the face with a volleyball earlier at the rally and you even tried to smack one on my face when I came here! There was nothing inconspicuous about it! The students and faculty were just forced to ignore it and act like there was nothing wrong!"

"Shut up! Shut up!" Kamoshida said, looking angry, "YOU KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!"

"I know everything." Shin said, "You're too scared to admit that you are just a failure who failed to meet expectations. You deluded yourself by suffocating in your own twisted desires, distorting your very mind to hide the fact that you are a failure! You called yourself king because you didn't want to look like a loser!"

"SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" Kamoshida yelled, "I'm the king of this castle… I'm the king of this castle… I've always been the king of this castle… me!"

He punched a box off the desk.

"I AM THE KING!" Kamoshida said before he lunged at him.

"No, you're wrong." Shin said.

Shin's eyes glowed. He summoned Abel, who promptly smacked Kamoshida across the face. Kamoshida slammed into the wall and fell down. Shiho looked at Shin's eyes and noticed that they were glowing. They were glowing emerald green. He turned to Kamoshida.

"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body." Shin said, "Corinthians 6:18."

Kamoshida got up sluggishly.

"The fuck was that? The fuck did you do to me?" Kamoshida asked, disoriented, "ANSWER ME, YOU LITTLE SHIT!"

"I don't need to tell you." Shin said, "Look into my eyes and you'll see that I'm not some peasant you can boss around."

Kamoshida looked into Shin's eyes and immediately looked afraid. Shin had Abel rip the keys from Kamoshida.

"What the hell… what the hell are you?!" Kamoshida asked.

"I'm the one thing you'll remember as the thing that ends your career." Shin said, "You can't expel me, you can't hurt me, and I can do whatever I want to you because no one, and not even the Principal can protect you now."

"How do we go about punishing this sinner?" Abel asked.

He looked Kamoshida in the eye.

"I think you've been humiliated enough." Shin said, "Let that be a lesson from now on."

He went over to Shiho and pulled her up. He wiped her tears.

"Come on, let's go." Shin said.

"You think I can't expel you?" Kamoshida asked, "I'll fucking do it! I'll report you at the next board meeting! Your life is mine to take, understand?! The Principal can't protect you forever!"

"Idle threats mean nothing to me." Shin said, "Come along, Shiho, he's washed up."

"I'll ruin you for life! You hear me?! I'll ruin you!" Kamoshida yelled.

Shin closed the door. He brought Abel back to him.

"It's alright now, you're safe." Shin said, "He won't—"

SLAP!

He looked surprised when Shiho just slapped him. He saw tears coming from her eyes.

"You should've just left me…" Shiho said, "I'm not your girlfriend and I'm not someone who needs any help from you… so why? Why did you do that?"

"Because I couldn't stand by and let it happen." Shin said, "He was taking advantage of your emotions. He was twisting them around just so he could use you as some… sex slave."

"I DIDN'T ASK FOR YOUR HELP!" Shiho screamed at him, "I WAS NEVER YOUR GIRLFRIEND, YET YOU HAD TO GO AND HELP ME! I HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON WITH YOU! I NEVER EVEN MET YOU ANYWHERE BEFORE IN MY LIFE! SO WHY?! WHY DID YOU GET YOURSELF INVOLVED IN SOMETHING YOU SHOULD HAVE JUST LEFT ALONE?!"

"Shiho…"

"DON'T YOU ACT LIKE YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL!" Shiho yelled, "I never wanted you to help me… I… I never wanted your help… I… I… I'm sorry… I… I…"

She ran off sobbing. Shin watched her run off. He reached out to her. He felt a headache coming onto him.

"I never wanted any of this…"

He recognized that voice…

'Is that… me?' Shin thought, 'Where did these… memories come from?'

"I'm the reason mom and dad died!"

'Me? No… I couldn't have been the one… I would never… I should know that I was not the one who… caused them to die…' Shin thought, 'It was an accident… I know it was an accident… so why? Why do I feel so guilty over it?'

"I never wanted to have such a stupid power!"

'Power? Persona? So then… I'm just like Kayano…' Shin thought, 'I awakened my Persona when I was just a boy and I lost my parents and little sister when it happened.'

He looked at his hand.

'Was it just like with Kayano? Was my Persona weak? No… it couldn't have been that…' Shin thought.

He shook his head off and felt his phone ring.

Ren: I met up with Ann.

Shin: What did you find out?

Ren: She was forced to date Kamoshida in order for her friend, Shiho Suzui, to stay on the volleyball team.

'Of course…' Shin thought.

Shin: Well tell her to call the deal off, Kamoshida almost raped Shiho.

Ren: He did what?!

Ren: Shin!?

Ren: Answer me, Dammit! Answer me!

He turned off his phone and decided to go home.

Kanzato Household

Evening

Shin heard his phone go off. It was Shiho. She was calling him. He answered it.

"Shiho, I—"

"No… let me apologize for what I said earlier." Shiho said, "I shouldn't have yelled at you. It's just that I… It's just that I felt so… useless. Like I didn't belong anywhere. Ann was the only one who became my friend."

"Shiho…" Shin said, "Look, let's meet on the school roof during the morning. I'll have a couple of my friends meet me there."

"Y-Yeah… that sounds good…" Shiho said, "L-Later, Shin."

"Later, Shiho." Shin said.

He decided to go to bed. He climbed up the ladder to his bed and got in the bed. He pulls the covers over himself.

Shiho was about to go to sleep, but then her head began to ring. Then, she saw a girl who looked just like her, wearing her school uniform.

The difference was that her eyes were golden.

"Haven't you had enough?" The doppelgänger asked, "Don't you just want it all to end? Is there any point to living in the prison that is living as some useless doll princess?"

"W-Who are you?" Shiho asked.

The girl did not speak to her. The girl just stood there, looking at Shiho with its golden eyes.

"I'm what you truly are." The doppelgänger said, "I'm what you always have been. A useless doll that serves no purpose in life."
