"Did you know that Bluebell is trying to put together it's own fire house?" Kelly asked looking up from his phone as AnnaBeth walked in from work.
"Who's messaging you?" She asked rolling her eyes as she hung up her coat by the door "Tom Long?"
"The guy seems stressed" He said with a shrug "I told him any questions just to reach out"
"You know you're going to regret that" She told him shaking her head sitting down beside him on the couch "They try every year and every year they fail, I heard Lavon and George are causing problems this year"
"See you're just as invested" He said leaning over to kiss her hello "How was work?"
"Well seeing as you work 24 hour shifts and run into burning buildings, I feel like I can't complain" She sighed leaning her head against his shoulder and her put an arm around her.
"But you're exhausted?" He asked with a smirk.
"So so exhausted" She nodded "Sorry I know I haven't been much fun this week"
Kelly felt bad for her. She had seemed really tired all week. AnnaBeth was always bubbly and full of energy. He knew between studying and work she was taking on a lot. He had tried telling her that she didn't need to work so many hours, but she wouldn't listen to him anyway.
AnnaBeth looked up as his phone buzzed again. He looked down at the new message, Tom Long's name flashing up. AnnaBeth gave him an 'I told you so' look.
"So how about tonight we order in" He suggested changing the subject.
"I do have a huge craving for biscuits" She admitted.
AnnaBeth jumped in the shower while Kelly went out to pick up their dinner. She had just finished putting on one of Kelly's t-shirts when her phone started going off. She routed around in her purse to find it.
"Hello?" She said not looking down at the caller I.D.
"You are just going to die"
AnnaBeth furrowed her brow looking down at her phone.
"Lemon?" She asked cautiously "Please be Lemon, if this is a scream thing, I don't have a favourite scary movie"
"Well of course it's me" Lemon huffed "You really have to stop watching those crime documentaries"
AnnaBeth just nodded to herself. She did worry about serial killers a lot for a sane minded person.
"I thought you were still on your cruise" She said changing the subject.
"That's a whole other story" Lemon sighed "Now will you let me get to the news I have to tell you, you will just…"
"Die" She finished for her "Got it, what's going on?"
"Zoe Hart is pregnant with Wade Kinsella's baby" Lemon told her.
"Oh, that is so amazing" She said placing her hand to her heart as Kelly walked in.
"Well she's not even sure about telling him" Lemon continued "She says she's going to do it alone, and you're not here and I'm having to be nice to her, it's been really hard on me"
"Hard on you?" She asked rolling her eyes "Lemon Breeland you need to make her tell Wade, she doesn't have to do all of that alone"
"I will" Lemon told her.
"And thanks for being nice to her" She added.
"Well someone had to be" Lemon mumbled "It's not a big deal"
"She must have been so shocked" She said shaking her head.
"I thought it might have been me" Lemon admitted "I'd been so run down, but thankfully I just had a bug, and Zoe is the pregnant one"
"So, run down?" AnnaBeth asked.
"I know right" Lemon replied "I will never be so careless again"
AnnaBeth bit her lip looking at the calendar on the kitchen wall.
"I have to go" She said "I'll call you later"
Kelly looked at her expectantly as she put her phone down on the kitchen counter. He had pulled out two plates and a beer.
"Zoe's pregnant with Wades baby" She explained "She hasn't told him yet"
"Poor guy" Kelly said shaking his head as he went to pull out the bottle of wine from the refrigerator.
"No thanks" She said, "Why poor guy?"
"Well they're not together" He replied putting the bottle back "And news like that is gonna hit him like a ton of bricks, it's life changing"
"But it's kind of happy news too" She reasoned "It's exciting"
"I hope it works out that way" He shrugged "But it's not like they planned it, they're both still young and everything is going to change"
"For the better" She said, "Don't you want kids?"
Kelly nearly choked on his beer.
"I guess I never thought about it much" He replied "Some day but not now, I like things how they are"
AnnaBeth just nodded. She grabbed a bottle of water and carried her plate through to the living room as Kelly put on a movie to watch. But she couldn't take any of it in. All she could do was think about being so run down and the date on the wall. She was a week late. She knew she needed to take a test before she said anything. There was no point dropping a bomb when she wasn't sure about anything. But now she was worried about the reaction she was going to get. Children were important to AnnaBeth. There had been a time when she had been waiting for test results and had worried that it might not be an option for her. It was another point to add to the list of big topics that should have been discussed before marriage.
