Big Sister Eva

As a baby, Eva Dickson was always a hyper and happy child. Sometimes her mother and father could be overwhelmed and exhausted from the energy that she had. They were thankful however that she was not a bratty child.

"I don't know where the hell she gets it from." Cree would quip.

"Hopefully it'll wear off some day." Chad usually quipped back.

When she was a few months shy of 3, she met her cousin James Gilligan.

"Cute baby!" She ran over to her aunt, mother and uncle in an attempt to smother the baby with love. But she was stopped by her father.

"Shhh, sweetheart the baby has tiny ears so you can't yell." Chad whispers.

"Sorry, daddy. I just wanna see the cute baby." Eva pleads.

"Okay, baby." Chad says.

"Eva, this is your cousin, James." Abby says.

"He so cute." Eva says, touching his cheek.

"Yes he is. You're a big cousin now, honey." Hoagie says.

"Can I hold baby?" Eva asks Cree.

"Well that's up to your Aunt Abby." Cree says. Eva turns to her aunt.

"Here, let me sit up and you can sit on my lap." Abby sits up in the bed and puts Eva on her lap. As she helps Eva hold James, Eva feeds her infant cousin a bottle.

"He's so tiny. Mommy and daddy, can you have a baby?" Eva asks, much to her parents' surprise.

"Wow, a young kid who is excited to have a new baby." Hoagie quips.

"Hahaha. Not quite ready for a second kid, Hoagie. Oh and here you go, a toy for James." Chad hands Hoagie a small teddy bear.

"Thanks, Chad. It's perfect." Hoagie says.

Suddenly James starts crying.

"What's wrong, baby? Did… did I make him cry?" Eva asks as she starts crying. This causes James to cry harder. Hoagie takes James and Cree takes Eva out of the room.

Cree takes Eva into the bathroom to calm her down.

"Sweetheart, what's the matter?" Cree asks.

"I made baby cry!" Eva cries.

"No, no, no. Babies sometimes just do that. It's not your fault, but let's just give the baby some space for now to be with his mommy and daddy, okay?" Cree manages to calm her daughter down.

"Can I play with the baby again?" Eva asks.

"Another time, honey. He's too little to play like you." Cree explains.

"Okay, I can play later." Eva yawns as she walks away. Cree picks her tired daughter up. "Come on, Eva. Let's get daddy and go home."

Over two and half years later, Cree came home to Chad in high spirits.

"Did the test come back?" Chad asks. When Cree nods yes, Chad hugs her belly.

"When do we tell Eva?" He asks.

"Oh we can't tell her now, it'll be all she'd talk about. Let's delay that until the right moment." Cree cautions.

Several months later, once her pregnancy was more noticeable, Cree thought that now is the right time to tell Eva.

Walking into Eva's room, they see her dolls facing the board that Eva is standing in front.

"What are you doing, Eva?" Chad asks.

"I'm playing school, daddy. I'm gonna be a teacher just like mommy." Eva asserts.

"Aww that's cute, but listen to this. I'm gonna have a baby , and you're gonna be a big sister." Cree says.

"Baby? Where's the baby? Is it here?" An excited Eva asks.

"Well the baby's not here yet, in a few months. Right now it's growing in mommy's tummy." Cree shows off her pregnancy bump.

"Mommy! You ate the baby! Bad mommy!" Eva snaps.

"No, no, no, no, no. She didn't eat the baby, it's just where the baby comes from." Chad explains.

"Oh. Do I have to be careful with the baby like cousin James?" Eva asks.

"Exactly like when James was a baby. Very good, Eva." Chad says.

"Can I name the baby?" Eva asks.

"What do you wanna name it?" Cree asks.

"Elsa." Eva says.

"And, what if it's a boy?" Chad chuckles.

"Olaf." Eva answers.

"Those are cute names, Eva. We'll keep them in mind." Cree says, as she and Chad leave. "This is gonna be a LONG four months." Cree groans as Chad nods in agreement.

Over the next four months, Eva would consistently ask about when the baby is coming and each time Chad and Cree would respond, "Not yet." In Kindergarten, she would usually draw pictures of her and a baby. Maurice's daughter, Julia, ended up being Eva's best friend and she even made her a T-shirt that said, "Big Sister Eva." Chad had told Eva to wear that specific on the day that she meets the baby.

The day eventually came to when the baby was being born. Chad had taken Cree to the hospital, and Hoagie had driven Eva to kindergarten that day, wearing the Big Sister shirt.

"Eva, is the baby coming?" Julie asked.

"My Uncle Hoagie said that by tonight the baby would be here." Eva answered.

"Ladies, come on and focus on your work." Their teacher said.

"Sorry, Miss Sims." They sighed as they went back to coloring in the squares.

At the end of the day, Hoagie picked up Eva and drove to the hospital.

"Good news, Eva. You're now officially a big sister. The baby's here." Hoagie announces. When he parks the car, Eva bounces up and down with excitement.

"Yay! I wanna see the baby!" Eva shouts.

"Well remember, you have to be quiet for the baby." Hoagie says.

"I remember." Eva says.

"Good and also, the baby is a boy. So you have a little baby brother." Hoagie says.

"So not a girl?" Eva asks.

"No, sorry honey." Hoagie says.

"It's okay, I'm still gonna love it." Eva says.

"That's the spirit." Hoagie says as he leads her up to Cree's room.

"Daddy!" She sees Chad out in the hall and runs into his arms.

"Hey, sweetie, how was school? Were you good for Uncle Hoagie?" Chad asks as he picks her up.

"School was good. I wanna see my baby brother." Eva says.

"Well let's go inside and meet him." Chad says.

They walk in to see Cree giving the baby a bottle.

"Hello, Eva. Thanks for picking her up Hoagie." Cree says.

"You're welcome. Say I actually gotta go, Fan's waiting for me at the station." Hoagie says.

"Do what you gotta do, thanks for your help today." Chad says as Hoagie leaves. He then puts Eva on the floor and she walks up to Cree's bed.

"Eva, say hello to your brother, Jack." Cree shows Eva her baby brother and Eva starts to tear up.

"Eva what's wrong?" Cree asks.

"He's so cute. Can he stay like this forever?"

"No, I'm sorry sweetie. He won't be a baby forever. But he'll always be your little brother. And you have to help take care of your little brother." Cree explains.

"Can I hold him?" Eva asks.

Chad lifts Eva onto the bed and Cree puts Jack in her arms.

"Hi Jack, I'm your sister, Eva. I love you very much and I'm gonna take care of you." Eva says to the newborn.

As time went by, Eva and Jack developed a strong sibling bond with each other. One night, Cree walked in to give Jack a bottle when she found Eva in the crib with him.

"Eva? What are you doing?" Cree asks, while trying not to laugh.

"He was crying and I calmed him down." Eva explains as she held Jack close to her.

"Well let me just give him a bottle, and YOU have to sleep in your bed. You're too big for the crib, you don't wanna squish your brother." Cree says.

"Fine." Eva allowed Cree to take Jack as she climbed out of the bed.

Whenever her friends came over to play, Eva always presented Jack to them. Some said they wanted to play with Jack, but he wasn't fun to just watch. The only one who loved Jack was Julie. Her and Eva would spend hours trying to give Jack toys or a bottle, or trying to make him.

"Jack is so cute, Eva." Julie says as she pinches his little cheeks.

Watching the kids play, Maurice joked with Chad and Cree, "I don't need to get her anything for Christmas. I just need to get baby toys that she can give to Jack."

"Well, hopefully things can work out with you and Ruby." Chad says.

"Nah, I doubt it, man. But it's the life she chose to live. She doesn't wanna be a mother, that's on her." Maurice says.

"Hey, Julie may not have her mother around, but she has an amazing father." Cree says.

Julie then walks up to Maurice and asks, "Can I have a baby brother like Eva does, daddy?"

"Well it's not as easy that, kiddo." Maurice replies.

"Well can we take Jack home with us?" This causes the adults in the room to laugh.

"No honey, Jack is gonna stay with us. But you can come and you and Eva can play with him as much as you want." Chad says.

"Okay then." Julie walks off as she and Eva begin to play dressed.

"That boy is gonna grow up with an army protecting him." Maurice comments.

"Oh definitely. Eva is going to let NOBODY fuck with him." Cree says.

End of the chapter. Sorry for the long hiatus on this story. But life has been insane for me. I also have other stories that I am writing and workshopping. Not sure when I'm gonna update this or what it's gonna be about, but hopefully I can come up with it soon. Until then, happy reading!
