Mando had waited several minutes after the crate had come to rest. It had become hot and stuffy inside the container. He unfastened the lid and slid it open a small amount. The cool air penetrated the darkness inside. He listened. No sound. He opened the lid fully and stepped out to take in his surroundings. The room he in was a dimly lit small storage room, other crates arranged in piles were stacked against the walls. On the right wall was a door which he walked towards. As he approached it it swished open, and a young Chiss male entered. Din drew his pistol and pointed it at the startled child.
"I don't want any trouble" Din said to him. "I was kidnapped and woke up here. Where am I ?" He tried to bluff.
The blue skinned young child hesitated but seemed to believe the story "Dont hurt me sir. You...you are on Rentor. I mean you no harm...shall I get the police to help you?"
"No. I don't know who is after me. I don't want to alert anyone. Just show me how to get out of here..."
The Chiss child looked confused.
This kid isn't buying this Din thought to himself.
"Kid. Just stand aside and don't tell anyone you saw me ok ?"
The young male didn't respond, but he did back out of the room and pointed Mando towards another door "thats the way out sir"
Mando walked past the boy and paused to hide his pistol before going through the door. He turned around. "Thanks kid" he said and he opened the door and left.
I've got about five minutes before that kid tells everyone he sees, he thought.
He emerged in a busy and bright thoroughfare which, while cleverly disguised, couldn't quite hide the fact that it had been cut out from the underground rock. Most of the people were native Chiss, but there were enough alien races that Mando knew he could blend in without too much trouble. He looked to his left and right, both directions offered various stores and commercial establishments. On a whim Mando headed left, blending in with the crowd.
From the thoroughfare other streets branched off, each had neon lit stores. Each one looked much the same as the last to Din. He walked down several of the streets, choosing them at random until he thought he had given himself enough distance from the child and the store room he had started in.
He walked past a bar and decided to go in.
The bar was very busy, a loud band played fast music to Dins left. The bar area was to his right. He looked around at the brightly lit room. All of the booths were taken so he walked over to the bar.
The busy barman finally came to Din to take his order.
"Have you got Ardees here ?" Din asked. The barman shrugged.
"Ok. Just give me the local ale...and some information. Where can I hire a land speeder here ?"
The barman produced a drink and gave Mando some directions to a speeder place.
Mando finished his drink and left the bar. The street outside was still busy. He now knew where to get transport but that was only half of what Din needed. He needed to know how to get back to the compound, and that information couldn't be obtained in a place like this. He needed to go to a different type of bar, and Din had been around long enough to know how to find them. It took Mando twenty minutes of walking before he found the establishment he wanted on the lower levels of the port.
This place was full of the scum of the galaxy, all eager to make a quick credit. Even here he had struggled to find anyone willing to speak about Ktar, her reach seemingly extending to this entire sector of the planet. He eventually found someone who was willing to give up the information he needed though, for the price of a few drinks and a few credits. The informant claimed to be one of Ktars hired guns who had escaped after refusing to slaughter the younglings of one the local politicians. Din wasn't certain he believed the story, but enough of the information the man told him matched with what little he already knew about the base so he figured it was as good as he was going to get.
Mando left the bar and checked the time. The sun would be setting soon enough, and he knew that being outside on an ice planet at night would spell certain death. He wasted no more time, he headed towards the speeder place he had been told about and set out from the port to travel back to Ktars base.
