Chapter 9: Maturity
He children grew. They were geniuses. At one week old, they were the size of five-year-olds. They were gods, so it made since they grew fast. At a month, two of them mastered the changing of age portion of being a god while Apollo didn't. Apollo was a slow learner. When Percy talked to Artemis about this, she whispered, "He takes after his namesake."
It was another week until Apollo mastered the changing of age. He chose to be a steady 15 while the other two chose a steady 13. The three of them also declined staying in their dad's or mom's palace. They switched between their cabins at Camp Half-Blood while three more cabins were being built. Their minds matured fast. They were geniuses, except for Apollo. Apollo was just average for the average 15-year-old human, but he was a god. His parents worried about him. When the children's first birthday came, Apollo announced, "Dad, Mom, Zoë, Sal, I want to head off on my own. I am only as smart and average as a mortal is and while Zoë and Sal have discovered some of their powers, I have not discovered any other than the changing of age. I'll be back when I'm ready."
Percy put his hand on his son's shoulder and said, "I give you my blessing."
Apollo flashed out as Zoë asked, "Can I make an announcement?"
Artemis asked, "Is it draining?"
"No," Zoë started, "I want to live in my own cabin to raise my future child."
Those who remained spewed their drinks, "What?"
"I went out exploring the town in my 25-year-old form," Zoë began, "I met this one guy. He seemed nice. He is a park ranger on a wildlife reserve that was on vacation. He was really passionate about animals. I met him and I felt my 25-year-old side popping out, so we dated for the rest of his vacation and a week after he had to go, "I discovered I was pregnant. That was two weeks ago."
Artemis just sat there with her jaw dropped while Percy replied, "You can live in your cabin anytime you want. I guess that gods have had children at a younger age, so I raise a glass to your child, non-alcoholic of course."
Dionysus, who was coming to the party, asked, "Wait, no alcohol?"
Artemis replied, still a little shocked, "I guess my daughter is pregnant."
Dionysus asked, "So I can still drink?"
Percy replied, "Just don't become too boisterous."
Dionysus said, "On it," as he started taking a swig from a wine bottle.
Sal asked, "So why is Dionysus here again?"
Percy replied, "You remember how I told you about my first child, Perseus Jr.?"
Sal replied, "Yeah."
"Dionysus came to visit me," Percy said, "He is the one who got me out of my five-year depression."
Sal got a look of understanding as Apollo walked up, "Am I late? What did I miss?"
Percy asked Artemis, "You want me to tell him or you?"
Artemis replied, "You, I am getting a migraine."
Percy replied to Apollo, "Well, Apollo wants to live among the mortals and is already starting while Zoë is pregnant, seems like Sal is the only one with no drama."
Apollo asked Zoë, "You're pregnant?"
Zoë replied, "Yep."
Apollo said, "Congratulations!" HE then pulled Zoe in for a hug.
Sal asked, "You know how you said I was the only one with no apparent drama?"
Artemis asked, "Yes, why?"
"I impregnated a nature spirit. We have been dating for two months under my 20-year-old form."
The people there spewed as Dionysus asked, "All who have impregnated nature spirits, raise your hand." Dionysus and Apollo raised their hands. Dionysus continued, "Then I need to leave because I'm starting to get wasted, see you guys later."
Dionysus has been growing warmer for the past few decades and managing his alcohol better, so Percy waved, "See you later!"
After the party had ended, they all, including the children left and went their separate ways. Artemis left to go be with her hunters, which had grown in numbers quite a bit, while Sal went to spend time with Pine, his girlfriend, and Zoë went to her cabin at Camp Half-Blood. Percy walked up to the Big House and remembered the first times he saw it. The rainy night he first arrived, playing pinochle, which he now played quite well, and going up to the attic to visit the Oracle. Of course the old Oracle wasn't there since Rachel had taken over the job and a splendid job she did indeed. Percy thought about how life had taken many changes and churns as he went inside and knocked on Chiron's door. The same old music was playing and Chiron answered, "Lord Percy, what a nice surprise."
Percy replied, "I've told you time and time again, please call me Percy."
Chiron got a twinkle in his eye, "As you wish my lord. So Percy, what brings you by?"
Percy looked at the photos on the wall, some over a hundred years old, some very recent. Percy asked, "Remember when I was a demi-god? Back in the days when I was young and confused?"
Chiron got a warm look in his eyes, "Ah yes. The days of old. One of my favorite times to reminisce about. Why?"
Percy replied, "I have grown up. I have changed. Years ago I thought that no matter what happened, I'd live out my life and one day maybe go to Elysium to hang out with my friends who have passed before me."
Chiron nodded, "You have indeed come a long way."
"That's what made me realize it. I have matured far beyond I ever had. I have a perfect life with some drama sprinkled in, but just the right amount. And I was wondering something, did we ever get a new Great Prophecy?"
"Not yet, but I have a feeling that it will be soon."
Percy said, "Whenever it is, whatever happens, I will be there to help because I am Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon first and foremost. I may be a god, but I still have my half-blood spirit inside."
Author's note: I apologize for some of the crudeness and how some of it was rushed, especially the last part. I will likely do a sequel story, but it may be a little while. I thank you all for reading all the way through and again, any feedback whatsoever is accepted by via either directly messaging me or by leaving a review on any of the chapters. This is my first completed Fan Fiction, so once again, thank you for reading. Signed, George Hurt.
