Chapter Ten: Fire

Nessie's POV

We reappear in the dark. I can't see anything, but know that my arm is definitely broken. It feels like fire is running through my arm. I get dropped, hard, on something flat, most likely a table. I can hear Molly moving around and muttering to herself. Then she laughs.

"I think I figured out the best way to kill you, Nessie," she says, walking over to hover above me.

I stare into her glowing red eyes, despite my arm. "What?" I say. "Go on, I'm not-oww!-afraid of you," I say. I had accidentally moved on top of my arm, and almost shattered it again.

"I'm going to turn you into a vampire, and then rip you apart, and burn the pieces," she says, her face lighting up. My stomach twists.

"You're a monster," I say. But I know there is pretty much nothing I can do. My arm is broken, and I've lost most of my half-vampire strength over the years. I'm dead. I just wish I could have gotten to tell my family I remembered them. I wanted to see them one more time.

"Where are we?" I ask.

"Florida," she says, and my heart sinks. They'll never find me here.

"How did we get here?" I ask, trying to stall. She smiles. It's obvious I've hit a spot of pride.

"It's my ability. I can spacial jump, meaning I can disappear and reappear at will."

"Why are you doing this?" I ask. She pauses.

"I already told you, I want to be praised by my siblings and their group. If I kill you, they'll praise me. It's that simple. Now stop asking questions. It's time to die."

I can see another needle in her hand, and try to keep her talking more. If I stall long enough, then maybe my family would find me. They found me before. "You know what, you don't need their approval. They're bad people, and you don't want to be a bad person, do you?" I say. "You don't want to kill people, do you?" I ask. She spins on me.

"Shut up!" she shouts, and then plunges a needle right into my arm where it's broken. This one doesn't make me sleepy, but it starts a fire. It's like she started a fire directly in my arm. I can fell my arm straightening out, healing, but then the fire gets hotter, and hotter, and hotter. It's not really just a normal burning anymore, but my entire arm is being charred to ash. I scream, and I can hear Molly laughing. The burning just keeps spreading, and I scream even harder, though it doesn't really do anything. The last thing I see before I succumb to the burning is Molly's face, glowing with delight and not a hint of remorse.

When I wake up, I can't really tell where I am at first. All I can hear is someone breathing next to me. I begin to count the breaths as the last remnants of the burning sensation leave my body. I don't move, because if I do, I might start screaming again. It feels like my entire body has been burnt. There can't possibly be anything left. Slowly, the burning fades. I'm left just lying there with my heart beating at a slightly faster rate than it used to. I open one eye and see a white ceiling. I open the other, and see everything. My vision that I used to have so long ago is back, along with my fast heartbeat. Then I remember what was promised to me when I awoke. I sit up, wanting to tell Molly to get it over with. But I'm in a bed in a familiar bedroom. My mother's bedroom. I don't even get to turn to see her when I'm being tackled with an ice cold hug.

"Mom?" I say, slowly hugging her back. I think about Molly, and wonder how I got here from there.

She lets go. "Renesmee, I saw what you were thinking," she says, incredulous.

That must mean the venom gave me back everything that made me half-vampire that I had lost. I smile at her.

"Mom, I remember you, I remember everything," I say, hugging her again. She's crying, I can tell this is what she's been waiting for for a long time. The door opens and Dad comes in. I reach out one arm.

"C'mere, Dad," I say, and he puts his arms around both of us. For that one moment, everything is absolutely perfect.
