Hey guys! First of all, I want to say Happy Thanksgiving to everybody and I hope everyone had a safe and awesome time!
Now for the story, this chapter will have a lemon in it that you might enjoy. Pretty simple, slow, and romantic. How it should go. This one ended pretty big with the word count, which is fine. I need to make my chapters bigger anyway.
Also, I really need to know how the characters are. If they relate to the original or if some aspects need improvement. Anyways, here's the long awaited chapter!
That afternoon was definitely one of the best of Subaru's time. They sampled more of Rem's so called honey mayonnaise as she claims it to be. Subaru and Emilia agreed with the name since it sounded just about right from the taste.
In the end, Rem was very happy that she was able to satisfy Subaru this much. Seeing Emilia this happy was just a plus for her since she was very important to Subaru.
She didn't really care much about what Emilia thinks sometimes. She thought Emilia was too immature when it comes down to her and her problems with her race as a half elf, but it was fine. Thanks to Subaru, she had a reason to get to know Emilia better.
Subaru and Rem went back to work and Emilia went outside in the gazebo to communicate with the minor spirits with Puck by her side.
Rem was busy starting with today's dinner since it was evening. Subaru was busy wiping the windows and from time to time, he would lose track and gazed at Emilia outside. He never gets tired of looking at her when the little spirits danced around her. It always livens her beauty from her shiny silver hair and if she had her eyes open, it would definitely sparkle. It was so tantalizing for him, but he had some priorities now so he had a goal to reach.
He decides it was enough so he heads downstairs to assist Rem with cooking. She was very happy that she got to spend time with Subaru again. Rem was busy chopping some meat for tonight's curry while Subaru peeled some potatoes. He was getting better with the peeling since he first came here. He just needs to be super focused. He cuts his finger with the knife.
Subaru : Ah! Dammit!...
He drops the potato and puts the knife on the counter. Rem turned around and saw him holding his finger in pain. It looks pretty deep this time. She gasps when she sees the deep cut from his finger to his palm. Blood leaked from the sides.
Rem: Subaru-kun! Please allow Rem to heal you!
She rushes over to him and bends over to grab his hand. A blue light appeared around her hands for a moment and then it was gone. He turned his hand around and it was like new. No marks or anything.
Subaru: That's my mistake. This potato still had a root on its side. I should've thrown it out.
Rem: It is a needless habit to develop, Subaru-kun. Every potato counts so there is no need to be so wasteful. In fact, this potato is still good to eat.
She was right. He picks up the potato and inspects it. It did have a small root on its side, but it still was good to eat. This was an example of someone with knowledge of cooking versus someone who doesn't.
He learned this quote from Ram when they first made mayonnaise. It still bothered him how knowledgeable of cooking she was when she can't cook anything else other than her steamed potatoes.
Subaru: Ah, you're right. Thanks, Rem. I can always count on you.
Rem: There is no need to thank Me, Subaru-kun. Rem is simply performing the duties of what a wife should do if her husband is in pain.
Subaru: Well, wives don't tend to have healing magic, but you are an exception…
She smiles with upturned eyes. It still felt a little weird to call each other by that title, but in a way, it was fun. He places his other hand around hers while she still holds on to his.
Subaru: ...I still can't believe I'm marrying you...also Emilia-tan too if she's okay with it.
Rem: Rem feels the same way. We only had met not too long ago, but now we have each other. It is very much like a living dream...
For both of them, things were happening way too fast for their minds to accommodate. She used to hate him and he was scared of her once, but now it was all behind them since the morning after the mabeast incident in the village. When he unfroze her frozen heart that day was one of the best days in her life.
Rem looks up to him while he looks down still in thought. There was something he said that still bugged her.
Rem: Subaru-kun?
He looked up to her and noticed she was concerned about something.
Subaru: Yes? What is it, Rem?
Rem: I hate to be of concern, but what if Emilia-sama doesn't wish to marry both of us? That thought has certainly crossed your mind has it not?
He furrows his brows in thought. It has crossed his mind before, but he really didn't want to overthink it. He hated to think about that day if she does come to that conclusion.
Subaru: It had come to mind before. If that does happen, then it's fine, but I want to still be there to support her. I'm still unsure why she wants to be king, but I want to be her loyal companion! I'll do whatever it takes!
It was a sad thought to him. For Emilia to say she doesn't love him was a nightmare worse than any other. He really wanted to ask her, but at this point, he knew it would only mean trouble. He'll just have to do what's best for her for now.
Rem: ...and Rem will gladly support you in return, Subaru-kun.
He looks up to her wide eyed. It still amazes him how much this girl is willing to do anything for him. Even if it meant marrying another girl. She'll still support him no matter what.
Subaru: Thank you, Rem...I really should do something special for you. How about I cook and you sit and relax?-
Rem: -Please don't. Rem can manage.
She didn't want him to cook. That memory of the stove in flames and Ram kicking him out hasn't left her mind. She was fine with teaching him, but she didn't want to be in that position to where she kicked him out of the kitchen too if he messed up big time.
They stood this way for a while. Staring blankly in each other's eyes until they realized it was time to go back to work. He grabbed the knife and started to peel the potato slowly with precision.
Rem was still chopping some of the meats until a thought came to mind. Her face flushed in thought of asking him.
Rem: U-um, S-Subaru-kun!
He immediately turned around when she called him. The way she called him sounded forced and shy. It worried him a bit since it came out of nowhere.
Subaru: Yes?! What is it, Rem?!
She hesitated and stood there with her back facing him. She didn't want to turn around and reveal her tomato face to him. Steadily, she gains the courage to ask.
Rem: About your debt…
Subaru: "My...debt? What debt?", he asks questionably.
Rem: "You...have spoken about a...special appreciation...for Rem…", she asks nervously.
Subaru: Yes? What is it that you want?
It was very hard for her to tell him. It's not like he would ever say no to her. She knew this, but it was too embarrassing to ask.
Rem: I-If it's fine with Subaru-kun, can Subaru-kun perhaps…
Subaru:...perhaps what?...
He was completely confused. Something was wrong with her and it was really difficult to put in words. He gets up out of his seat and walks next to her. He tried to look at her face, but she kept looking away from him to hide her blush.
Subaru understood that it was troubling her this much so he wraps his arms around her from behind and rests his cheek on her head.
Subaru: You know you can ask me anything. It's not like I would ever say no in an instant. There is no need to be shy about whatever it is.
She realized she was worrying him so she turned around to face him. He let go of her and held both of her hands to calm her a bit. With one gulp, she gains the courage.
Rem: If Subaru-kun could perhaps...love...Rem sometime? I-If it troubles you not to then it is completely understandable! My apologies for such a selfish request. Rem's misconduct as a maid and a wife will be!-
Subaru: -Rem! You need to calm down. I already do love you, Rem. Didn't you already know that?
Subaru could never understand the mood sometimes. She looks down to their joined hands and thumbs over his. She needed a different approach.
Rem: Do you...remember that night...when we...made...love?
His cheeks completely turned red from that thought. Even if it has been almost four days since that night, it still lingers here and there whenever he sees her. His guilty conscience was all gone now that they have complete feelings for each other, but he still can't believe he went that far.
Subaru: Y-Yes, it does come to mind sometimes...
Rem: Do you...still regret it?
Subaru: Not at all. It...felt great didn't it? Not that I'm saying I was only interested in your body or anything! No, wait! I didn't mean I hate your body it's just I was lost in the moment!
His face turns completely red from that thought of doing it again with her. He was really embarrassed to accept what they did, but he tried his best to shut it out. It was one of the greatest feelings in the world to him, but he didn't want to sound like a pig about it.
Rem: Don't be ashamed, Subaru-kun. I was wrong myself, but if you do not wish to then it is completely understandable.
Subaru: it's not like I don't want to. It's just...I want Nee-sama to accept us first. Nobody would accept what we did that night. If they find out now, it will only mean trouble for the both of us.
He learned that the hard way from Beatrice. She is the only one in the mansion that knew of that night and he still felt ashamed of it sometimes when he thought about it, but as long as he kept his promise and strengthened his bonds with all of the Mansion's residents, then he will live peacefully alongside them.
Rem: Ne-sama will accept us. She has told me of last night's events this morning.
Subaru's face completely brightens. To hear that Ram had a positive view towards him was definitely a motivation for him. He grasps her hands tighter.
Subaru: "Did she really? What did she say?", he asks eagerly.
Rem: Yes! Ne-sama has grown to recognize you…
Subaru: Wow, didn't know phase one would be that huge of a success…
The night before, Ram thanked Subaru because she got Roswaal's appraisal for something he did. He calls it a success, but in reality, she will only notice him more often. He still needed to try harder.
Rem: ...but she still dislikes you…
Subaru: ...and there goes my motivation…
He sulks down in disappointment. He almost forgot that these two sisters tell each other everything. Just by hearing this from Rem he can understand Ram's soft side. He could definitely use Rem to get an inside look of Ram's personality more.
Rem: Not to worry. When Ne-sama arrives tomorrow morning, Rem can assist Subaru-kun as well!
She smiles with determination. She really wanted Subaru and Ram to get along before, but now it is top priority for him so she will gladly help. Subaru smiles upon seeing her determined look. It was pretty cute to him.
Subaru: I'm glad I can count on you, Rem. Now, we probably should get back to cooking. It's getting late.
The two resume their work with the cooking. Subaru was peeling his potatoes very slowly with complete precision and stuck his tongue out to its side. He really didn't want to cut himself again.
Rem on the other hand smiled while she started to put the cut meat into the pan. The question she asked to him pretty much went off topic, but she got her answer.
They eventually finished cooking and Rem served it. Since it was just the four of them, including Puck, Subaru decided that Rem should eat with them. She didn't want to at first since she was a maid, but eventually Subaru got her to eat with them. She sat right next to him and Emilia on the other side.
It was fun. Especially without Ram or Roswaal since those two would scold them for being too obnoxious. Subaru told some stories that intrigued both girls and Puck that he got from his world and joked around a bit. Emilia really enjoyed his stories and she retold some of her favorites to Rem since Subaru didn't really tell her any.
Eventually, they all ate and Rem took the dirty dishes from the table and took them to wash. Subaru ended up eating two big servings because Rem made more than she made because she forgot to count out Roswaal and Ram's serving size. He didn't mind. It was really good. He slouched in his chair to stick his belly out. He rubs it with both hands in exhaustion of how much he ate. Emilia giggled at the sight.
Emilia: You really should know how to limit yourself, Subaru. It's not like we can't have leftovers for tomorrow. There is still plenty.
Subaru: Ugh, I think I found my limit...and I couldn't help myself. Rem's cooking is just way too good! I'm glad she decided to eat with us.
Emilia: mhm, I've never really got a chance to chat with Rem, but now I can see how different she is from her sister.
Subaru: She's great, isn't she?
He crosses his arms and looks up towards the ceiling in thought. There were significant differences between these two sisters, but he can definitely see a bit of resemblance besides their appearance. Both Rem and Ram are loyal to the people they admire. If he could get that same trust from Ram, then it would only get easier with the rest of them.
With another thought in mind, he turns his head to Emilia, then to the table. He was looking for something.
Subaru: Anyways, where's Puck? He was just here a second ago…
Puck: I'm right here, Subaru.
He turned his head around to look behind him to the direction of the voice, but nobody was there.
Subaru: Where? I don't see a little floating fur ball anywhere.
Puck crawls out from under the neckline of Subaru's jacket and nips at his earlobe. It instantly made Subaru jump in his seat and yelped in pain. He fell backwards towards the floor and held onto his ear.
Subaru: Ah?! What was that for?!
Puck floats above him as he supports himself up straight while sitting on the floor. Puck smirks at him.
Puck: That's what happens when you refer to a great spirit such as myself of that title.
Subaru: You didn't have to bite me! Ouch! I think you might've punctured my skin...Yep, I'm bleeding…
He removes his fingers from his injured spot and finds a dot of blood running down his finger. Emilia gets out of her seat and runs over to kneel down at his level.
Emilia: Puck! That was very rude of you! You should apologize to Subaru.
Puck: Ah, Sorry, Subaru. My tastebuds are still stimulating from that honey Mayo that that girl made. The thought of it was so mouthwatering, I couldn't resist.
He licks his lips and rubs his belly in thought of the taste. Out of all the residents that love Subaru's mayonnaise idea besides Subaru, Puck was the one who liked it the most. He likes it on top of his fish so when Emilia introduced it to him, he couldn't get enough.
Emilia was done healing his ear so they both stand up. He dusts himself off and she looks at him worried.
Emilia: You really should be more careful of yourself. You always get in these high jinks and it makes me worried.
Subaru: Ok seriously what is even a high jinks?! Novelists would not know what that means!
Emilia: Subaru, you're speaking a bunch of gobbledygook.
Subaru: Ok! I feel like that one was on purpose!
Emilia and Puck didn't know what the heck he was talking about, but they still laughed. He rubs his sore back from the fall and yawns. He ate a lot of food so it eventually got him tired.
Subaru: Maybe I should sleep early for tonight. I need to get up early before sunrise so I can impress Ram more.
Emilia wanted to ask why, but she could kinda guess. Even though Emilia was considered a master to Ram, she still never fully respected their standings as a master to servant relationship. Emilia knew Ram's negative attitude so when Subaru said he wanted to get along with Ram, she understood what he meant. It was a nice thought to her.
Emilia: So how will you do that? It does sound tough to get Ram to like anyone. Except for Roswaal of course…
She puts a finger to her lip in thought. Emilia doesn't really know Ram that well. The only times they would talk was always about her studies when she brought tea in her room, but that's just about it. Emilia has noticed Ram's obedient nature only towards Roswaal. That girl was a mystery.
Subaru: Well I do have Rem as an inside person to give me info so maybe I could use that. Rem doesn't seem to mind.
Emilia: Subaru, that doesn't sound fair. If you want to get someone to like you, you need to be honest.
Subaru: I'm...not sure if that will be an option…
He scratches the back of his head nervously. Being honest to Ram was definitely out of the question. If he told her anything regarding his love for Rem, she'll murder him without a single thought so considering the events of the night of the snow festival, would mean chaos.
Puck: Sorry, but I'll have to agree with Subaru on this one, Lia…
Emilia: Puck? What do you mean?
Puck floats next to Subaru. Emilia was confused by his counter. He has told her that honesty was the best way to go, but now he sides with someone that wants to lie and keep secrets. It worries her.
Puck: I have noticed how overprotective that girl is to her sister. If Subaru were to tell the truth now, it wouldn't end so well. Is that right, Subaru?
Subaru: Yes! I'm glad you can see my dilemma!
Subaru sticks out his hand to offer a handshake. Puck gladly floats closer to Subaru and shakes his hand with his little paw. The two were in agreement of that fact, but Emilia stares at them questionably.
Emilia: ...but keeping secrets is wrong. Especially if it's between family. You know I don't like liars…
Puck: I know, I know, but this is a scenario in which we must keep to ourselves. Just for a little bit. I trust Subaru will fulfill his promise. Is that right?
Subaru: Yes! You can count on me!...After all of this is done, we can all count on each other!...and of course no more secrets. That's a promise!
It still didn't sound right to be keeping secrets like this from Ram, but it checks out. She puts a finger on her lower lip, unsure if this is the right choice, but if it meant to have more closer relations between the mansion residents, then it sounds fine.
Emilia: Hmm…It still doesn't seem right, but if it's for Subaru's sake, then I guess it's ok. I mean, if it's for my trusted helper, then I can help too!
She clenched her hands into fists up to her chest in determination. If it's to help a friend in need, she will gladly help. Subaru gives her a thumbs up and smiles. Now he had both Rem and Emilia with Puck by her side to help him.
Subaru: Alright! Now that it's settled, I should probably let Rem know I'm going to bed early. She should be almost done cleaning up by now.
He was about to walk off, but something tugs on the sleeve of his jacket. He turns back around to see the source of what was pulling him to find it was Emilia holding onto his sleeve.
Emilia: Sorry to be a bother, but before you do, it's best if you clean yourself up and dress nice for tomorrow.
Subaru: Yes? I'm aware of that. I will be in my butlers' uniform when she arrives. I think if I show more loyalty to Ros-chi, maybe she will accept me. Not so bad of a plan if I say so myself.
Emilia: Yes, that's understandable, but I'm talking about something different. It's...kinda hard to explain.
Subaru raises an eyebrow and puts his hands on his sides. He was still confused by what she was asking of him. Emilia was sometimes nervous when she asked something of others, but this sudden change of mood was different. Puck floats around Subaru then stops in front of his face.
Puck: What my daughter is trying to tell you is to take better care of your hygiene, Subaru. Your odor definitely smells like that honey Mayo. You've eaten quite a lot of it too.
Subaru's eyes grew wide. He pulled on the fabric of his jacket from his chest closer to his nose and sniffed it. It reeks of that honey Mayo that Rem made. It could explain why Puck bit him earlier. Subaru was a messy eater when it came to mayonnaise.
Subaru: I don't think I smell that bad, but I better wash up first before I go to bed. It would definitely be the considerate thing to do.
Puck creeps up behind him and rests his belly on his shoulders. Subaru peered over his shoulders to look at the cat like spirit and noticed he was licking his lips in hunger.
Puck: ...and you better hurry. I can't control myself any longer by this delicious scent. If I wait any longer I might just eat you…mn mn mn...
He rests his head on Subaru's shoulder and starts to nibble on his jacket. It was adorable at first, but his nibbles started to pinch him more and more. Puck was serious.
Subaru: Ah! Ok! Ok! I'll get going! See you tomorrow, Emilia-tan! Ah!
He turns around and runs off out of the dining room and upstairs to get ready. Puck wipes his drool from his mouth with his little arm while looking at the direction where Subaru left from.
Emilia walks behind him and crosses her arms. She seems to be a little bit concerned about their talk just now.
Emilia: Puck, you really should stop teasing Subaru. It's not very nice.
Puck snickers while covering his mouth with both paws. He waved one of them at Emilia to let her know he was just kidding.
Puck: Ok, I'm sorry, but are you really sure you want to help him? I didn't mean to force you into this situation.
Emilia: it's fine, Subaru is a friend. Of course I want to help. He helps me a lot so I should probably do him a favor. Even if I do have to keep secrets just this once.
Puck crosses his arms and nods in agreement. They were both glad they had an understanding of this situation and it was decided they should help. It really wasn't that big of an issue.
They stood in the dining room chatting and joking around until they decided it was getting dark so they went to Emilia's room for a while.
Subaru went back to his room to get ready for his bath. He changed into a bathrobe and headed to a room with a bath. It was like the larger bath that can hold many residents, but it was smaller and private. Subaru prefers the smaller one better because he had a run in with a nude Roswaal on his first days at the mansion. That thought of him sharing a bath definitely creeps him out.
After filling the bathtub with sufficient warm water, he removed his last piece of clothing and made his way down the steps into the tub. The feeling of the warm water soothes him and he felt completely relaxed. After submerging his head underwater, he combs his hair and wipes his face. This feeling was pure bliss. He sat himself near the edge of the rectangular tub with his head facing up. Soaking in the warmth of paradise.
Subaru: Ah, not sure how I could ever live without this every now and then. I really should take better care of myself….
Opening his eyes, he tilts his head forward again to face the wall. He crawls to the other side to grab something, but stops at the middle of the tub when he notices it was not there. He looks around his shoulders and under his arms in search of this missing object.
Subaru: Dammit, where did I leave the soap. I left it right here just a moment ago…
He stops and thinks for a bit. Did he even brought one? No, he remembered it usually sat at the rim of the tub and this was the men's tub.
He suddenly shivers when he felt something touch him.
?: Don't be alarmed, Subaru-kun. I am only performing my duties to properly clean you…
Subaru: R, Rem? What are you doing here? This is the men's tub. Unless I accidentally went in the wrong room. No, wait. Why are you in here?
He was completely clueless. He still wasn't sure if he was in the right room or not, but it didn't matter because Rem was here with him...and washing his back.
Rem: It is customary for a husband and wife to share a bath together. Rem is simply performing the duties as a wife.
Subaru: I'm not,..against it. It's just...you startled me… you really...shouldn't be here…
She slowly rubs Subaru's back with her hands full of soap. It felt great to him, but he knew this was wrong. Her hands started to massage its way up to his shoulders that made him shudder.
Subaru: ...Where did you...learn this?
Rem: Ne-sama will sometimes stress over certain complications so Rem will happily ease her troubles with a light massage. Does this please you, Subaru-kun?
The feeling of her hands rotating over his skin felt amazing. It unwinded his tensed shoulders and completely relaxed him. What he felt before was nothing compared to this feeling.
Slowly, her hands made its way back down to his lower back and she applied more soap to her hands.
Subaru: …Why...are you...in here?
Rem: Have I not told you? Rem is-
Subaru: -No, I mean why are you here? We never share the bath and you suddenly show up unannounced. What are you planning?
He turns his body to the side , but he still faces away from her. As much as he wanted to see her full beauty, he couldn't. She lets go of his back and places both hands over her chest. Her cheeks turn red from embarrassment.
Rem: Well...I just wanted to...spend more alone time with my Subaru-kun...am I wrong in doing so?
Subaru: ...Yours? This is the first time you claim me...
Rem: ...Yes…
He sat there with his hands over his legs. He was still embarrassed that he was naked in a bathtub with another girl so it was common, but he didn't know if she was nude too.
Subaru: ...No, I guess it's fine, but if you want to spend more time with me, then you should ask. I want to spend more time with you too…
She smiles and starts to rub the side of his arm. He still looked away from her, but his eyes grew wide when he felt her hand on his chest. This feeling...it felt comforting, but it was starting to escalate.
Subaru: ..What are you doing?...
Rem: Bathing you silly. You've overworked yourself quite a bit and so your body needs to be properly cleansed…
Subaru: ...Oh, that...makes sense...is it...really ok for you to be here?
She nods and continues to apply more soap to his body. It really did feel nice to have his body washed like this. He didn't mind for now since Ram was gone for the rest of the day so it's ok for the night.
Slowly, her hands went lower and lower from his chest to his lower belly. It was getting really down south so he stopped her by grabbing her hand.
Subaru: Rem! What are you doing? You're getting too close.
He looks into her eyes and she covers her bare chest with her other arm. She looks completely frightened by this look he gave her. She looks as if she might've gone too far. His once concerned face softened as he let go of her wrist.
She puts her free hand over her chest with her other hand.
Subaru: ...Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you…
Rem: No, I am to blame. I...might've overstepped...again.
Subaru: Don't blame yourself… it's like what I said earlier, I don't mind doing these things with you. It's just… I don't want to upset Beatrice...and I want Nee-sama to accept us first.
Rem: Ne-sama isn't here for the night. She usually slumbers during this time and Lady Beatrice-sama has temporarily disabled her magic upon this room so no one will no-
Subaru: -What did you say?
He stops her mid sentence upon hearing this piece of news. How did she know about this fact about Beatrice's door crossing? Rem rarely ever saw Beatrice except when she decides to eat with the others during meal times and they rarely spoke.
His reaction frightened her. Rem scoots back an inch after she sees his concern in his eyes.
Rem: "...umm, R-Roswaal-sama had ordered Lady Beatrice-sama to temporarily disable her magic in an enclosed area so he could properly experiment an ancient ability.-", she explains nervously.
Subaru: -No he didn't. Roswaal told me himself that it wasn't him. Who told you this?
Subaru was completely serious. He really needed to know who set out this lie. He remembered the anger in Beatrice's eyes. Even though he was playing around with her, she seemed really ticked off that she couldn't use her door crossing to its fullest and after she was about to leave, he remembered the sadness of her tone. He couldn't understand what she said, but it probably relates.
Rem lowers herself deeper into the water to try and hide herself. Subaru thought about it more. Roswaal was definitely not the one and Ram wouldn't disobey him. Emilia hates liars so she's off the list and Puck wouldn't want Emilia to see him as a liar too so it only leads to...
Subaru: Rem, was it...you?
She nods slightly. He saw her startled look and sighs. He understood now what she was trying to do. She wanted to spend time with him and decided to do all of this trouble just to be with him. It wasn't really that bad when he thought of it.
He wanted to ask how she knew of this piece of news, but seeing her so frightened really gave him a guilty conscience.
He completely faces his body to her and puts his hands on her shoulders. She looks into his eyes.
Subaru: It's fine. Just promise me you won't lie ever again. Ok?
Her once plain face smiles and nods at him. They stare deep into each other's eyes enjoying each other. He noticed her breasts pressed up against her arms and darted his eyes back and forth from her eyes to her almost exposed breasts nervously. She noticed this sudden reaction from him and looks down to her chest and realizes what was troubling him. She looks up towards him.
Rem: Do you...wish to see them?
His face completely turns red and he scratches his cheek. He didn't know how to answer this. To her, this meant yes since he didn't say no.
Slowly, she removed her arms from her breasts until he saw those two little mounds hang off from her voluptuous breasts. A line of blood flowed down his lip from this alluring view.
