Chapter 10
When I arrived back at my dorm, I started packing all of my stuff. Right in the middle of packing, my phone rang. It was Teddy.
"Hey Ted." I greet.
"So, what happened with the Dean?" Teddy asks me. I just let out a chuckle.
"How did I know that was going to be the reason for your call."
She just laughed a little bit. "Sorry, I just got eager. I couldn't wait for your call anymore. I just need to know."
"Ok, well if you really want to know, she told me that I can take a leave of absence and return in the fall to retake my classes." I tell her.
"Are you going to? Return in the fall? I mean."
"No, I'm not returning. I'm quitting school, Teddy."
"Arizona, No. You can't. You worked your ass off for this."
"Ya I know." I sniffed, "That's exactly what Dean Frost said to me too."
"Then why quit now?"
"How am I suppose to cope with school and a baby, Teddy? How? Explain that to me." I yell.
"Arizona, you don't need to yell at me."
"I know, I'm sorry. My emotions and the hormones have me all over the place."
"I understand. It's ok. So should I let Tim know you will be home then?"
"Yeah, you can tell him. So I was wondering...Since I have money saved up from when I was working at the radio station. Which they weren't happy when I literally went off on a caller who was complaining about how bad her boyfriend was, then stormed out."
"You walked out on your job?"
"Actually no, they fired me. Not only for walking out, but they also fired me because I went off on a caller. Any, as i was saying, since I'm leaving school, I need to get my car home, so I was wondering if it would possible for you to fly out here, and just drive back to Seattle with me? It will be a 34 hour trip. Plus It would give us a chance to talk more."
"Yeah, of course. When are you leaving?"
"Thursday, around 1."
"Ok, that's two days from now, so I can book a redeye flight for tonight, and I could be there in the morning. How's that sound?"
"That sounds perfect. Thank you Teddy."
"Anytime hun. So tell me, how are you feeling? Anymore morning sickness?"
"oh god. It's been terrible. I'm 4 and a half months along, and it still hasn't gone away. I was told it would go away after the first trimester, but it hasn't." I tell her.
"It will pass. Are you showing yet?"
I look down at myself to see.
"No. Still not showing yet."
"Well you are tiny, so you may not start showing for another two or three months months.
"Yeah, maybe. But hey, I need to get off here and finish up my packing. I will see you tomorrow morning right?" I ask.
"I will be there tomorrow morning. I'm just now finishing getting my flight booked." I hear clicking of her computer, so I know she was doing something. "There, all done. Flight is booked. Now I have to get an outfit packed. So I will see you tomorrow morning, Love."
"Thanks Teds."
"Anytime. Talk to you later, Zo. Bye."
"Bye!" After hanging up with Teddy, I placed my phone on the desk, and went back to getting my stuff packed. As I was finishing up, my phone rang again. I didn't look at the caller I.D when I answered it.
"Teddy, I said I will see you tomorrow morning."
"Arizona?" Comes the familiar voice.
"Yes?"
"It's Callie. You know, from Joe's."
Just fucking great. I thought. "What do you want, Callie?"
"I was just calling to see if you were coming home this summer? I talked to your brother and he said..."
"Why were you talking to my brother?" I ask, cutting her off.
"Because, you weren't answering my calls and I just wanted to check up on you. I ran into him yesterday and he said that you didn't come home for Spring break."
"Yeah, well I have been a little busy, Callie." I snapped.
"Did I do something wrong?"
"No, Callie, you're just peachy." I snapped again.
"Then why are you getting snippy with me?"
Because you took my virginity, then knocked me up that's why.
"I'm just not feeling well, I have a headache and my stomach is doing summersaults." I tell her. I know it's just the baby fluttering, but she doesn't need to know that. "So when I'm not feeling well, I get bitchy. Anything else?"
"Ok, well when do you get back into town? I wanted to see if you wanted to hang out or something?"
"No, I don't want to hang out. I can't hang out with anyone. I gotta go. Bye." I say, then hung up. I threw my phone back on the dresser and let out a long sigh. I sat down and ran my hands through my hair. God, will these emotions ever end?
The next morning, I woke up to Teddy standing over me.
"Morning Sunshine." She greets with a smile.
"Jesus, Teddy! You scared the shit out of me. How did you even get in here?"
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Anyway, I got in because I found the extra key you had hidden under your mat."
"Oh. Well what time is it?"
"11 a.m."
11 a.m, what the fuck?
"Are you serious?"I ask her in disbelief.
"Yeah, why? Do you need to be somewhere?"
"Yeah, I need to go to the Dean's office and return my keys."
"Oh well, ok, I'm going to start getting the car loaded up while you go return the keys. I should be done by the time you get back."
"I can help load the car really quick." I say reaching for one of my heavy boxes.
"No...No..I got this. You shouldn't be lifting heavy things. Besides, you're still in your pajamas. No one wants to see that."
"Oh, thanks alot." I say giving her an evil glare. I rummaged through one of my boxes to change into different clothes. After I was done changing, I decided grab a smaller box to take to the car. Even though she said she would load the car for me while I was turning in the key, I decided to help out anyway. Once we got the car was loaded up, I went back to double to make sure I didn't miss anything. Then Teddy and I made our way to the Dean Frost's office. I gave a slight knock. Before I got an answered, I opened the door.
"Oh, Ms. Robbins. Come on in. What can I do for you today?"
"Hi Dean Frost, just wanted to turn in my keys to my dorm."
"You're really leaving?" She asks with a sad look on her face.
"Yeah, I am. I just have too much going on right now, so I think it's for the best."
"Well I understand Ms. Robbins, it's been a pleasure working with you, and hopefully you can get whatever you have going on, squared away. Take care of yourself." She says, giving me a sympathetic smile.
I give her a slight nod, and leave her office.
"You hungry?" Teddy asks as we made our way back to my car.
"I'm starving." I tell her. "This baby makes me want to eat all the time."
"Well that's normal. Let's go grab some lunch before we hit the road, huh? What do you say?"
"Sounds good to me." I tell her.
After lunch, we finally hit the highway. Car was silent for the longest time.
"So..." Teddy states, breaking the awkward silence we had going.
"What?"
"Are you sure you want to do this? Come home?"
"Kind of late now to ask me that, isn't it?"
"Yeah, you're right. You doing ok?"
I shook my head. "Not really. My emotions are all over the place." I tell her. "I just don't understand how I went from being this happy, go gitty, perky, smiling girl, to a crabby, person who hates everything and everyone." I say lowering my head.
"Look, Arizona, it's the hormones and mixed feelings you have. You were a virgin and that one drunk night of irresponsibility, took it away from you."
"Look, I know I was irresponsible that night. You don't need to fucking remind me." I snap. "Wake me up when we get to our first stop, if you would please." I tell her. I pulled my blanket up and laid my head against my window. It only took a few minutes before I was out.
