Lydia watched Fynn circle around her room while Brenda was asleep. Fynn was touching everything from her picture frames to Brenda's fake eyelashes. Luckily, everything in the house was child proofed, so Fynn couldn't break anything. The entire time, Fynn was squealing the words "What is this?" each time he found something new. Luckily, Brenda was a deep sleeper. When they had arrived home, Fynn had started talking to the fish as soon as he laid eyes on them. Lydia rose and went to check on the twins, who were sleeping peacefully. Her eyes filled with sadness, knowing she'll never get back to them before they were asleep. She wasn't able to see them in the mornings either as she left at 6 AM. A tear swept down her cheek, leaving a trail for more tears to follow.
Lydia didn't hear Fynn as the kwami swept up into the room. He floated up to the twins, silent. He went up to them and touched Olivia's forehead. Fynn brought his snout close to her forehead and kissed it then proceeded to do the same to Evan. Before Lydia could protest, the twins' foreheads had a blue glow on them, originating from the imprint of the kiss. The glow slowly grew until it took over most of their foreheads. Lydia rushed over to the twins, kneeling beside their bed. She snapped her head towards Fynn, her face full of anger, shock, and fear.
"What did you do to them?" she hissed.
Fynn shushed her as he lifted the twins' blanket up to their chins. Then, he flew out of the room, giggling. Lydia, still terrified, rushed up behind him.
"What did you do to them?" she asked, her voice ringing with panic.
Fynn did a spin, "I kissed them."
"I know that, but why are they glowing?" Lydia whisper-screeched at the creature before her.
"Don't worry, Linda," Fynn started.
"Lydia," Lydia corrected, for the sixth time.
"I ensured them the sweetest, fish-filled dreams. They were having nightmares before." Fynn flipped in the air, whooping in pleasure, completely ignoring Lydia's correction.
"You-you can see people's dreams?"
"Of course, silly," Fynn flew up to the ceiling, toying with the fire alarm, "your girlfriend back there was dreaming about you."
Lydia ignored the blush rising to her cheeks, "alright, so on top of giving me powers, you can use powers as well?"
Fynn nodded, "that's right."
"So," Lydia looked at the poster of the twins' favorite movie, Ladybug & Cat Noir, "you said I could transform into a special suit. Is it like Ladybug and Cat Noir's?"
"Why would you want to turn into a ladybug and black cat? Hideous creatures. Did you know ladybugs can't swim and that cats are afraid of water? I mean, who's scared of water? It's obviously the better element."
"Ladybug and Cat Noir are the heroes of Paris," Lydia pulled out her phone, quickly finding a news report, "here, look at this. This news report is from Ladybug and Chat Noir took down the supervillain Oblivio."
Fynn watched the news report, fascinated. He looked at Lydia, and back down to the phone.
"How do these vile creatures get their powers?" Fynn asked.
Lydia pulled up the Ladyblog, "according to this, through jewels called the miraculous."
For the first time, Fynn seemed to be at a loss of words, "so there are more miraculous? I always assumed I was the only one. Are there more kwamis as well?"
Lydia shrugged, "I wouldn't know. That information isn't here. Although, I do remember a woman on television talking about these invisible creatures that only she could see."
"We need to find this woman. Also, what's a television?"
Lydia ignored him and pulled up the latest episode of "Alternative Truth". She watched the episode closely.
"She's a science teacher at my sister's school."
"We can go there in the morning, then!"
Lydia shook her head, "I have work."
"Alright. We shall go now then!"
Lydia glanced at the wall clock. 1 AM. She sighed, "no person with a steady sleep schedule will be awake at this time."
"Humans are impossible," Fynn grumbled, then lit up and squealed, "you should transform!"
"Why would I do that?"
"Because everyone's nightmares have come to life!"
Lydia's eyes widened and she ran to the window and looked outside. As suspected, there was a dinosaur along with killer rabbits roaming the streets.
"Sandboy's back," Lydia reduced.
"Don't care what that is, but you should transform."
"What do I say again?" Lydia asked.
"Let's swim."
"Fynn, let's swim!" Lydia felt the magic course around her body. Her normal clothes turned into a tight suit that made her feel free. The entire suit was a sky blue with pink decals. Her ankles had pink, fin-like pieces sticking out. The same applied to her elbows. Her blue-covered fingers also had pink webbing in between them. Lydia's har switched into french-braided pigtails as a pink fin protruded from her back. Lydia's mask was the same sky blue as her suit with pink fins extending at the edges. Her ankle still had the miraculous surrounding it beneath her fin.
When the process had finished, she saw a trident strapped to her back. Its handle was pink and the rest was sky blue like her suit. The tips had white crystals.
"Fynn?" she called. The kwami was nowhere to be seen.
Lydia grabbed the trident and opened her window, finding it extremely easy to move. She braced herself against the window as she smelt the ocean. That wasn't right. There was no ocean near Paris and the weather didn't forecast for rain either. Screams could be heard from everywhere as Lydia carefully made her way to the roof. Looking over the horizon, she saw waves crashing into buildings. Lydia cursed under her breath. Someone was having nightmares about a tsunami. Lydia took in a deep breathe and looked at the ground. She was about 30 feet in the air. Lydia closed her eyes and jumped, trusting Fynn's knowledge. To her surprise, Lydia didn't immediately die at impact. She felt perfectly fine. She chuckled in relief but stopped as the ocean scent got stronger. Lydia started running, somehow extremely agile and fast. As she ran up to the tsunami, she saw two figures jump above her across the rooftops. It was Ladybug and Cat Noir.
"Alright, Lydia," she mumbled, "it'll be alright." Saying so, Lydia jumped and landed directly onto the rooftop. She watched as Ladybug and Cat Noir did their best trying to save as many civilians as possible. They were too slow. More civilians were getting consumed by the water by the second. Lydia looked at her trident and leaped to the tsunami. She stood in front of it. She could hear Ladybug and Cat Noir's voices as they shouted for everyone to rush into an alleyway.
Lydia took a deep breath. She grabbed the trident and held it to the huge wave. She swung her arm back and shot a blast out of her trident towards the tsunami. She held it there, struggling to breathe as she concentrated. The waves slowly turned to ice. She could hear Ladybug's screams as she pounded against the ice, desperately trying to save the people trapped inside. Lydia's knees grew weak. She crumbled to the floor but still concentrated, pointing her trident to the block of ice. Some of the ice melted as the people trapped in the ice emerged out, a bubble filled with air encircling them, leaving a tunnel through the ice. As soon as they were out, they were lowered onto the ground safely as Lydia grunted and the bubbles broke. She could hear cheers, coughs, and Ladybug's sobs of happiness.
Lydia felt arms wrap around her body and lift her up. She stood up, using Cat Noir to stabilize herself.
"Thank you." She managed.
"You shouldn't have used your powers like that, especially your first time." Ladybug ran up to them, her bluebell eyes filled with tears and concern.
"I had to," Lydia croaked, "you guys should go get Sandboy's akuma. I'll be fine."
Ladybug's face showed uncertainty, "I'll be fine," Lydia pressed, "I've faced worse like child birth. If it makes you better, I'll find shelter in that roof up there."
"Alright," Ladybug looked at her partner, "Cat Noir can you take her up to the roof?"
"I'll be after you in a few minutes, M'lady."
Ladybug wrapped her yo-yo around a lamppost and swung away. Cat Noir wrapped his arm around Lydia and extended his staff and let it lean so that they landed onto the rooftop. He set her down, "We'll be right back," he assured and leapt away.
After a few minutes, the miraculous ladybugs swept away the iceberg and all the damage the nightmare had done. Soon, Cat Noir and Ladybug were in front of her. By then, Lydia's strength had returned, although she was still tired and sleep deprived.
"Thank you," Ladybug said, "without you, I—I don't know how we would've saved them."
Lydia shrugged, "it was no big deal."
"But it was," Cat Noir interjected, "that was incredible power, especially for your first time."
"Well, like I said, I've been through worse."
"Where'd you get the miraculous? I've never heard of a dolphin miraculous before." Ladybug pondered.
"I—I can't tell you that. But I will tell you that I was entrusted with it by a guardian."
"I could see why they trusted you. What's your name? Well, your superhero name, of course." Cat Noir asked.
Lydia chuckled, "superhero, huh? You can call me Dolphin. Seems fitting."
"It sure does. If you don't mind me asking, what are the extent of your powers?" Ladybug questioned.
"For one thing, my suit has more abilities than your normal suits. While I don't think I can power up like you can, I can swim faster, breathe underwater, and fight better underwater. My trident can turn water into ice and ice into water. It can freeze water in the air, suspending it. It can also create bubbles, as you guys have witnessed. It will also always return to me if I lose it. The only downside is that it takes up a lot of my power."
"So it's different from ours," Ladybug reasoned, "while your powers are limitless, unlike ours, it'll still drain you."
"Yes," Lydia confirmed, "while your miraculouses will be drained after using your lucky charm or cataclysm, mine will drain me. The only way people can force my de-transformation is if they strip me of my miraculous."
"Do you think with more experience they won't drain you more?"
"Definitely," Lydia said, twirling the trident in between her fingers, "anyways, I've got to go. I'm exhausted."
Cat Noir stifled a yawn, "welcome to being a superhero. Good night, Dolphin," Cat Noir bowed, "good night, M'lady," he bowed to Ladybug as well and leaped off.
"Bug out," Ladybug said, saluting Lydia and swinging off. Lydia leaped away and swung into her open window.
Fynn started babbling right away but Lydia could barely hear him as she crashed into her bed beside Brenda. Her eyes closed as sleep over took her. It had been the most energy-draining day Lydia had ever experienced.
