Chapter 12
Miranda frowned, "You know I'm seeing someone, Kenneth Bailey."
Kenny shrugged with his eyebrows. "Right."
"Oh," Ben said sliding over a little.
Miranda swallowed. She wasn't really sure that she even had a boyfriend anymore. Three nights ago, she and her boyfriend of six months, Tucker, got into a huge argument that left her fuming with tears and had him storming out of her apartment. And he hadn't sought her out and she hadn't contacted him. Her leg shook just thinking about it. "Yeah, k-kinda..."
"Who's paying since I'm the guest?" Kenny asked breaking the awkwardness. Miranda shook her head and reached for her purse.
Ben touched her hand, stopping her. "I got it." He pulled out his wallet and handed Kenny his card. Her brother left to pay.
"I'm sorry. I... didn't know," Ben said putting his hands on the table.
"Didn't know what?" She asked reaching for her fork, playing with the food on it.
"That you were in a relationship."
She nodded. "Ah, so you assumed I wasn't in a relationship."
"No, I—"
"That wasn't a question," she chuckled.
"Okay, so I did. And what?"
Miranda gritted her teeth, staring at him. "It's rude."
Ben turned to her and she did the same, tilting her head. "I'm sorry. But can you blame me?" She fixed her posture at his tone. "Hoping that a beautiful woman was available."
She blushed, touching his hand momentarily. "It's okay," she sighed. "I'm not even sure what we're doing now."
"Who?"
"Me and my... boyfriend... Tucker."
"Tucker? Tucker... Jones?"
Miranda jerked her head back. "You know him?"
Ben laughed. "Maybe. Is he a dentist?" He asked.
Miranda nodded. "Yeah, that's him. Wow." He was quiet and she felt she needed to fill the gap between them. "Small world."
"Um..."
"What?" Her eyes grew wide. What did he know? "Ben?"
Hearing his name, he looked her in the eyes. "I think I should tell you something."
"Well... spit it out!"
