Chapter 12- Emily and Green-Eyed Skye
"Who are you?" Carly asked Skye, after she said that Michael looked just like her.
Skye grinned. "I am Skye. And I am a Quartermaine. Your precious son's aunt."
Carly rolled her eyes. "I can't stay. I have a date."
AJ scrunched his face as he sat down with Michael in his lap. "Didn't you just break up with Sonny?"
"Yeah, when I just got off the phone with you before dinner, you said you broke up with him ten minutes prior," Monica said.
"Sonny is history," Carly said.
Edward scoffed. "History? You let that criminal weasel his way into Michael's life and now you say he's history?"
"And he still has rights to my son," AJ added.
Carly rolled her eyes. "I will fight him out in court."
AJ rolled his eyes. "Good luck with that."
"Listen, Mama is working, and I don't have a sitter," Carly said. "I need Michael to stay over tonight."
"You expect us to help you after everything you did to this family?" Edward scoffed.
Monica raised a hand. "Hush, Edward. Carly, Michael is welcome here anytime. You don't even have to ask."
After Carly left and everyone finished their dinner, Skye excused herself. Claiming to needing the bathroom, she wanted to give herself a tour of her new home. She passed the nursery where Lila was reading a story to Michael, then she heard voices coming from down the hallway.
"It's okay, they're eating, they won't hear us," a teenaged girl said, who Skye assumed must be Emily.
"Your family hates my guts," it was Zander, JR's dealer.
"Even if you were part of a wealthy family, supported ELQ, were kind to Grandfather, they still would want you gone. They're just overprotective of me. Probably because I'm the only girl… well, until now. But Mom thinks she's a con."
Skye rolled her eyes. She peeked through the slightly opened door and noticed a picture of Alan and Emily together making Skye feel empty inside.
"Do you think she is?" Zander asked.
"I don't know. I haven't met her yet."
Skye made her way back downstairs where everyone had made their way into the kitchen.
"Well, I think she'll be an excellent asset to ELQ," Edward said, and he turned to Ned and AJ. "Not like these overgrown adolescents who gave up on this family a long time ago. Who can't even hold onto their own children or their shares… AJ… And Ned, all you care about is that noise you make!"
"It's called music, Grandfather," Ned said.
"But Skye has a job in Llanview," Rae said. "And she's very good at it."
"Oh, you're all here." Skye walked in. "I could've sworn I heard a male's voice coming from Emily's room."
One by one, AJ, Ned, Edward, Alan, and Monica marched upstairs. Skye turned to follow them, but Rae grabbed her arm.
"Oh, hey hey, no," Rae said. "I think it's time we had a little talk."
"Are you happy?" Skye moped. "You had another family gathering that you cut me out of."
Rae gawked at her. "Gathering? You ratted out on a teenaged girl and her boyfriend and the family's up there making their lives miserable. You call that a gathering?"
"How was I supposed to know that they'd go running off like some hysterical posse?"
Myrtle leaned back on the couch and watched them.
"Oh, I think you had a sneaking suspicion," Rae said.
"Yeah, well it sure worked for Alan, didn't it? He didn't hesitate a minute. He just went marching up those stairs to take good care of the little girl that he loves."
Rae squinted her eyes. "So, you told on Emily, because that's really the father that you want? Right, Skye?"
Skye frowned. "You're enjoying this, aren't you? I'm not your daughter to you, I'm just one of your patients that you want to analyze all day long, especially in front of my new family!"
"Skye…"
Skye set her hands on her hips. "Well, I've got news for you, Mommytherapist, I don't need a shrink. In fact, I don't need you at all. So, you and GrandmaCarnie over here can go back to Llanview or Pine Valley… or heck, join a new traveling circus… alone, because I'm not leaving my new family and I don't need you in my life at all! So, you can turn around and leave my new home, because now that I am home, I'm not leaving ever again!"
Rae's mouth dropped slightly.
Myrtle rose to her feet. "Skye, apologize to your mother, right now."
"No, I'm not apologizing to her. She doesn't care about me. She just sees me as a project that she can fix."
"That's not true," Rae said.
"Then once you realize you can't fix me, you'll just throw me away again! Well, I'll save you the trouble in that, Mother. You can just leave and don't come back!"
Rae burst into tears.
"Skye…" Myrtle reached out to her, but Skye stormed out of the room.
Myrtle rubbed Rae's back. "It's okay, maybe we should just give her some space. Once she realizes what she said, she'll come around."
"I shouldn't have…" Rae said. "I just wanted to help her and be there for her. Like I couldn't when she was growing up."
"She is just angry. In fact, it's good that she got that off her chest. Let's go home. We need to let her cool off. Then in a couple of days try to call her."
"I don't want to leave her."
"She'll be fine," Myrtle re-assured. "She's not going anywhere. Alan will take care of her. Things will get better."
Skye stood outside of Emily's busy room and listened.
"I forbid you to see Zander," Alan said.
"He is a low life mobster who is only going to hurt you in the end," Edward said.
"I love Zander," Emily said. "He would never hurt me."
"Let's think about this for a minute," Monica cut in. "Just look how we lost Jason. He wants nothing to do with us after we expressed how we felt about him joining the mob. I don't want to lose Emily too."
"What are you saying, Monica?" Alan asked.
"I'm saying we should allow them to date. BUT on certain terms."
"What kind of terms?" Emily asked.
"He's not allowed in your bedroom for starters," Monica said.
"And I say, he has to pick you up here every time," Alan said. "And he must have a conversation with me all those times. And you, my dear, you must keep an open communication with us regarding your… relationship… with Zander."
"I can agree to that," Emily said.
Skye pushed away the tears forming in her eyes and she pulled out Lorenzo's number from her pocket. She didn't want to lose what she had with Jax before it really started. But the way her father, grandfather, and everyone got protective of Emily over her dating a mobster, would they be the same way with her?

"Hello, Alan," Rae said into the phone the next day. "Would I be able to talk to Skye? She isn't answering her cellphone."
"I'm sorry, Rae, but you just missed her," Alan said. "She said she's going on a date."
Rae smiled slightly. "That's good. She really needs an outlet. I really like Jax, I think he'll be good for her."
"He hasn't been my favourite person since AJ gave him his ELQ shares, but from what I know he's been good to his past girlfriends. She could do a lot worse."
"I just hate how we ended things last night. I really do want her to live with me, but more than that I want what's best for her. If she's going to be happy with you then I want to support that. She's very angry with me, but I want her to know that I'm not going anywhere."
"I feel the same way."
"She doesn't even have any of her things. Her clothes…"
"I wouldn't worry about that," Alan said. "She went shopping this morning and got a couple of new outfits. She'll be fine for a couple of days."
"Please let her know that I called and that I'm sorry."
"I will," Alan said.
Just as Alan hung up the phone, Monica came storming into the living room and hurled a newspaper at Alan. "Care to explain this?"
Alan gawked at her and unfolded the Banner paper. "What?"
Long Lost Loves: The Tragic Story of College Sweethearts. Torn Apart and Reunited.
Underneath the headline was a picture of Alan and Rae at the Palace holding hands.
Alan shook his head. "It says it was written by Anonymous… Could Skye have published this?"
Monica laughed. "Oh sure, blame your illegitimate daughter."
"Monica, this article was taken completely out of context. How did you get a hold of a Llanview newspaper, anyway?"
"It was sent and addressed to me…" Monica's shoulders shrunk. "It was Skye… it had to be."
"I reached for Rae's hands the same way I would for my own mother. She is only a friend. There is nothing going on between us. Skye must have taken the photo when she went to the bathroom."

Knock. Knock.
Rae went to answer the door and found John standing there with a newspaper.
He kissed her. "Good afternoon, Beautiful."
"Good afternoon," Rae mumbled.
"Still haven't heard back from Skye?"
"No. Mama said to wait a couple of days, but I can't just leave things like that."
"It's a tough situation," John agreed.
"Maybe I'm a fool to think she'd feel anything towards me other than hate."
"She doesn't hate you," John said. "In fact, I think she's scared."
"Scared?"
"She's probably realizing that she does care about you and that scares her. She's looking for any excuse to push you away."
"Well, she's doing a good job of it."
"Rae, have you seen the morning paper?"
"No. Why?"
John sighed and handed her the paper. "It says Anonymous, but I think we both know who wrote it."
Rae skimmed the article, then squeezed her eyes shut. "John, I am so sorry. This was completely out of context."
"It's all right. I knew it was. But remember what I said, this is just Skye's strange way of showing that she cares about you. You'll get past it, I know you will."

"So, your brother…" Lorenzo said as they sat at the Port Charles Hotel eating lunch. "He wasn't too traumatized?"
"I haven't really spoken to him since… but even I did, my brother is off limits."
He nodded. "Remember, it was my brother that wanted him to join us, not me."
"And somehow you think that makes you a saint."
"Makes me better than Luis."
Skye rolled her eyes.
Skye noticed AJ walk in and pause when he noticed them. He came over to their table.
"What are you doing having lunch with him?" AJ asked. "Do you realize who he is?"
She smiled. "I can have lunch with anyone I want to."
"He's just as bad as Sonny and Zander." AJ gritted his teeth. "Dad thinks you're out on a date with Jasper Jacks."
Lorenzo scrunched his face. "Jasper Jacks? I think she can do better than him."
"Why would he think I'm out with Jax?" Skye asked. "I didn't mention any names when I said I was going out."
"Your mother called," AJ said. "She told him it must be Jax."
"She did?"
"Yep. Couldn't get a hold of you on your cell phone." He turned to Lorenzo. "If you do anything… and I mean anything to hurt Skye, you're going to have to answer to me and all of the Quartermaines."
Skye blushed a little.
"Oh, get over yourself," Lorenzo said. "Skye is in safe hands."
"Your hands better not get anywhere near her," AJ said before stomping off to sit with a blonde woman.
Lorenzo scratched his chin. "Why is AJ Quartermaine so protective of you? What's the connection?"
"Oh, I'm just his long-lost sister. No biggie."
Ring. Ring.
"Excuse me." Lorenzo pressed his phone to his year. "Yep. Okay. All right. I'll be right there." He slipped his phone away.
Skye frowned.
"Business calls," Lorenzo said. "We'll have to take a rain check." He placed a few bills on the table and kissed her cheek. "Goodbye, Skye."
Just as she left, Carly hurried over from the bar and threw her wine at her face.
"Ugh…" Skye held her hands up. "What the hell do you think you're doing? What was that for?"
"That is for going on a date with my new boyfriend. Stay away from Lorenzo!"
"What?" Skye patted her face with a napkin. "I didn't know he was seeing anyone."
"Well, you do now. And this serves as a warning to you. Stay the hell away from him!"
"I will date anyone I want to, thank you," Skye said. "He's obviously not that into you, since he's dating me."
"Just go back to your little fantasy life with the Quartermaines. Lorenzo is off limits."
"Why don't you go back to your fantasy life with that other mobster everyone keeps talking about?"
"Sonny and I are over. I'm with Lorenzo now."
"And I heard that it took a matter of minutes for you to move on to the next guy."
"You better watch your back," Carly said. "If I see you so much as speak to Lorenzo again, you'll regret the day you were born."
Carly flipped her hair and turned around and walked away.
