Chapter IX- Snowball Fight

"All right, I think that's all for today." Raijū decided and put down his Escrima Sticks.

"Finally!" Jack leaned on his knees, sweat dripping from his face and turning to ice just before it hits the ground. "I was one second away from loss of consciousness."

"You were the one who wanted to get more intensive and varied training. And, you might need the combat techniques of Arnis* if you get caught between a rock and a hard pla-"

A tummy rumble from the boy cut him off. It was a sound Raijū was all to familiar with. The sound of a very hungry person.

"Starving?" The werewolf asked, going up to a wicker basket.

Jack nodded, "I could eat a scabby horse."

"Take my word for it, horsemeat don't taste too nice." Raijū said as took two wooden bento box out of the basket. "I personally recommend the sichuan pork or creole chicken."

"Did you ever eat horsemeat before?" Jack asked before choose the box with a sichuan pork and sit on a log.

"I'm not gonna answer that question."

After half an hour, Jack had eaten and had removed his hand from his second bento box of sichuan pork with noodles. Meanwhile, Raijū was picking his teeth with sharpened bone.

"You're a great cook." The winter spirit said, sipping a yunomi* cup of iced tea.

"I like cooking." The werewolf said before eaten the bone which he had been picking his teeth while ago, "Also I find a good meal extremely pleasing, especially after a difficult day."

"You know what else is pleasing?" The teenage boy put down the yunomi cup and grabbed his staff. It immediately frosted over and began to glow blue with his power. "A snowball fight."

"You really like snowball fight, don't you?"

"It's a game without rules." Jack replied, spun his staff, causing the snowball materialized in his hand, "Also I can beat everyone in snowball fight, even you."

"Dream on, kiddo." Raijū started cleaning up the bento box, a flicker of a smile chased across the werewolf's lips.

That was until a snowball hit him in the back of his head. As a result, he had a dumbfound look on his face.

"Direct hit!"

Raijū smirked, taking on a playful expression that would rival the young spirit's own. "Of course, you know... this means war."

"Come on, wolfie, take your best shot." Jack said, a hint of a tease back in his tone.

"I will do as you wish." The werewolf grab as much snow as he could and roll it up into a huge ball.

"Oh-oh." With his quick thinking Jack grabbed his staff and tapped the ground quickly to summon a wall of ice before him to deflect the snowball.

Jack smirked as created a two snowballs before leaning out from behind the wall of ice to pelted Raijū with a snowball.

The werewolf took shelter behind tree with soaked up all of Jack's snowballs with ease as he smiled and threw his own icey projectiles.

And then suddenly Raijū jumped out of his safe wood shield and ran towards Jack. The winter spirit laughed out as he started throwing new snowballs at the moving and jumping werewolf. By the last snowball, which missed quite a bit, and he had almost successfully hit the target five times.

"Too slow, Jack." Raijū dodge another snowball before grabbed a handful of snow and formed a ball.

But then Jack touched his staff to the ground, sending a streak of frost across the trees and a path of ice magically appears right in front of Raijū's feet.

He didn't have time to stop, and slides down the sheet of ice. After a few meters, digs into the ice with his claws and stopped his body. At that moment Raijū felt something icy and cold hit his back. He turned to see Jack with a victorious look on his face.

"You'll pay for this, kid."

"Well, you got to catch me first." Jack said with a sly smile and then he shot off into the air.

The scenery passed him quickly as he fly. He fly so far and so fast that eventually, he gained a few yards distance between them. The winter spirit quickly used wind and fresh snow to mask his smell from the older spirit.

Then he perched on the tree with his staff and watched Raijū slowly walking between the trees.

The werewolf let out a playful growl. "I feel you're somewhere near to me, Jack." The boy couldn't help but chuckle at the banter.

"I'm closer than you think." Jack muttered.

Mistake #1. For Raijū's super hearing had caught the boy voice and werewolf set his sight's on him. He lifted a great heap of snow and hurled it at the winter spirit.

A large snowball hit him at the next second, straight into chest, sending boy to the ground where he made a hole of his body in the snow.

"Give up?" Raijū said, crossing his arms and giving his protégé a challenging look.

"Never!" Jack threw a glowing snowball saturated with his winter magic. However, it fly over the man's head.

"You missed." The werewolf gloated momentarily.

"I wasn't aiming for you." Emphasis was evident in Jack's voice.

The magic snowball heading toward the snow-covered branch of a tree, a werewolf was soon buried up to his neck from snow falling on top of him.

"Alright, let's call it a draw..." Raijū's said as he tried to free himself from the snow dune.

*Arnis, also known as Kali or Eskrima/Escrima, is the national martial art of the Philippines. The three are roughly interchangeable umbrella terms for the traditional martial arts of the Philippines ("Filipino Martial Arts", or FMA), which emphasize weapon-based fighting with sticks knives, bladed weapons, and various improvised weapons, as well as "open hand" techniques without weapons.

* Yunomi (Japanese: 湯のみ) is a form of teacup, typically made from a ceramic material, being taller than wide, with a trimmed or turned foot. Unlike the more formal chawan tea bowl which is used during the Japanese tea ceremony, the yunomi is made for daily (or informal) tea drinking.
