So, this is really hard to write as the series is a tv show and relies on tropes and tools that don't work well for written stories like flashback snippets intertwined with visual cues... it is hard. Am I doing well?
Elena, Liam and Stefan are driving through the woods in Elena's car. Liam knew the place, it was where he found Damon's ring with his clever little spell. "This is your family's old house, right? I found Damon's ring here."
Stefan scowled. "Yes, it is... stop here, please."
Elena, pulling to a stop, asked. "What are we doing here?"
They all got out of the car with Liam standing between Stefan and his sister, his hand on a spelled bag of vervain he made earlier just in case he needed to put Stefan down. He knew what he'd do, it was easy. He would knock Stefan down with his spell then steal his daylight ring, or stake him... whichever was easier. He saw it in his mind, proud of his planning.
Stefan lead them towards the ruins of his old home. "I wanted to show you something. As Liam said, this used to be my home."
Elena looked baffled. "It looks so..."
"Old? It's because they are."
"Wait. How long have you...'
'I've been 17 years old since 1864."
"Oh, my god."
Liam snorted. "Which is why I want him to stay away from you, he's kind of a pedophile. Well, Hebephile technically but my point stands."
Stefan scowled even deeper. "You said you wanted to know. I'm not gonna hold anything back. Half a century before the boarding house was even built, this was my family's home. Damon and I...We were both born here. The Salvatore brothers, best friends."
"""
Stefan sighed, his mind drifting as he told the story of his brother and Katherine, the memories flooding back before he could stop them.
Stefan and Damon running out of the house, playing football.
Stefan asked his brother. " Wait. Where did you learn this game?"
Damon replied. "Camp outside Atlanta. One of the officers picked it up at Harvard. Catch."
Damon threw the ball and Stefan catches it.
"Wait a minute. Wait a minute. What are the rules? What are the rules?" Stefan and Damon playfully struggle for the ball when Katherine exits the house, looking stunning in her dress.
"Who needs rules? Mind if I join you?" She says, her tone soft and sultry.
Stefan gulped. "Uh, well, you could, uh...you could get hurt. My brother likes to play rough."
Katherine smirked. " Somehow, I think that you play rougher." She snatched the ball from Stefan and runs off. Stefan stared a longing stare at Katherine as she ran off.
Damon turned to him. "Why are you just standing there? That is a girl who clearly wants to be chased." His brother paused. " If you don't do it, I will."
They both chased after her.
Elena was looking at him with nothing but shock, Liam not so much. He knew Damon must have told him to story, in his own twisted way. "You knew Katherine in 1864? Damon made it seem like..." Elena said, her tone showing the shock as much as her face.
"Damon was trying to make you think that...I was still heartbroken. He saw that I was happy with you, and he wanted to ruin it."
"All because you loved the same women 145 years ago?"
Liam sighed. "Your telling us nothing I don't already know. Katherine was a whore, playing you both against each other by feeding on both of you and messing with your minds... well yours, she never had to mess with Damon's from what I gathered. She was a vampire, the one that turned you both."
Stefan frowned. " Don't let Damon hear you calling her a whore, he would kill you on principle."
"Probably but the point remains true. Though to be honest, if you all just worked together you could have had a polyamarous relationship and been pretty happy. I imagine immortals have a different view of monogamy anyway. I'm only a witch and my views are already pretty skewed from the norm. Seems to me you were all dumb in this and that just left you vulnerable to splitting apart when you got her killed by trusting your incredibly abusive father." Liam walked over to the spot where the Ring had been hidden. " I found the ring here, my spell easily picking it out with Damon's blood. You really should have hidden it better."
"I'll remember that... why are you helping him? I mean what do you get out of it?"
Liam looked straight in Stefan's eyes, and Stefan swore he saw his own death. "You gone, away from my family. I don't want you dating my sister, or brother or aunt. Your not good for us. As is it we are in a big enough risk from having magic, we don't need you around making it worse." Then, before Stefan could react, Liam tossed something on the ground, saying the word "Incendia!"
A waft of smoke smacked into Stefan, knocking him down and making every cell scream in agony. "Vervain." he gasped, collapsing onto his knees. Everything spun, his throat and head screamed as the world blurred and turned red all at once. "Why, so strong?" he managed to bark out, wondering how the hell the vervain was hitting him so hard, it burned more, sank into his skin more, reeked more.
"Lovely spell, no?" Liam kneeled down to him, reaching into his hoodie pocket. "It was made for people like me, who have to supplement every spell with herbs and blood to manage even simple feats. Pity really, but it is cool if you prepare. You really earned this, you know?" Then sharp agony spiked through the the vervain fog, making Stefan gasp as the familiar sear of a wooden stake entered his chest but not his heart. Elena's shriek of terror only added to his pain. "If you ever come near my sister, this will go in your heart. I will kill you like he killed Zach, am I clear?"
Stefan could only nod, unable to mask his genuine fear of the very human boy before him.
"Wonderful. " The boy stood, leaving the stake in his chest. "Let's go Elena, I'll fill you in on the rest. Damon's a much better story teller. The story is actually kind of pathetic."
And the two left, with Elena looking back with genuine worry at him as her brother literally pulled her away.
Stefan knew he wasn't dying, but everything went dark, leaving him to heal in the woods alone.
''''
"Why'd you do that?" Elena barked out, making Liam smirk a little. " That wasn't needed, it was cruel."
"It sent a message, one I approve of. I feel satisifed knowing he'll leave you alone or die trying."
She frowned. "Who I date isn't your business."
"It is when that date endangers all of us. Dating a vamp is a serious risk for our entire family, not just you." He tone was colder then he wanted it to be, but he turned to his sister with the same rage he felt towards Stefan. "I know you like him for some god awful reason but it is not up to you anymore. He is bad for our entire family, not just you so he has to go. I will not allow our family to be at risk so you can feel good. No one person is worth the entire unit."
Elena did not scowling until they reached their home...
''''
A few hours later, while at their home, Elena and Liam both heard the doorbell ring. Elena opened it, seeing Damon and tried to push the door shut but Damon stopped her.
Elena turned over. " Jeremy, go upstairs."
Damo smirked. " You're afraid of me. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess. Stefan finally 'fessed up. Or was it Liam, I know he knows everything."
"Stay away from me.
"Hey, there's no need to be rude. I'm just looking for Liam. May I come in? Oh, wait. Of course I can. I've been invited. We can cut to the chase if you want. I'm not gonna kill you right now. That wouldn't serve my greater agenda. So, where's Liam?"
"Not anywhere you need to be."
"Don't look at me with those judgey little eyes. Your brother is actually smart enough to help me get what I want, makes getting rid of me all the easier."
Liam took that time to walk towards the door. "I'm here, and Elena before you judge like he said, I help him and he leaves. That helps everyone in this town. Simple really. I can't kill him, he is far stronger then Stefan and more ruthless. This is the smart way out."
And with that, both men walked up the stairs... just as Stefan appeared at the door, a hole in his shirt, looking in agony."
Elena gaped. " You're still bleeding. I thought you healed fast?"
Stefan sighed. "No, it's ok. It's ok. I'm ok but I feed on Animals, so I heal a lot slower..."
"I gave you today just like you asked. And I understand that you would never do anything to hurt me, and I promise I will keep your secret, but...I can't be with you, Stefan. I'm sorry. I...I just can't..."
Elena walked into the house, falls to the floor and cried.
Then her phone rang, and she picked it up, after sniffling a few times. "Yeah?"
"Elena.." It was Matt and he was sobbing into the phone. "It's Vicki... she's... she's dead."
'''
'You killed Vicki?" Liam gaped at Damon, who just shrugged. "Why am I not upset... maybe because she was ruining my brother's life... pity. I remember a time when she wasn't that bad. Were you careful, did you mask your trail?"
"I'm not stupid." Damon sneered for a moment. "Of course I did. I burned the bodies so bad they had to use dental records I imagine.'
Liam sighed. "Good... now, tell me, what do you need my help with, I know about Katherine, I know about you and Stefan and your feud, What I don't still know is why you need a witch and this talisman. What could you possibly need, what spell is locked with this necklace?"
Damon smirked and leaned in. "I'll tell you after school tomorrow. I'll pick you up and drive you to where you need to go. Then, in secret, we will figure everything out. Sound fair?"
"Why not... but remember, if it is a trick, I will kill you."
Damon made a cross over his heart. " Scouts honor."
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
This is a lot of fun but so hard.
Love, your Ninja Overlord,
Mika.
