Series 3, Episode 5, pt 2 ~ House of Revelations
At the gatehouse, the trio of teens had worked their way up the stairs and found themselves in a strange little hallway.
"Gross..." Eddie mumbled as Camilla moved to a large steampunk wheel and examined it.
"What is that?" KT whispered.
"I think this works the elevator..." Camilla told the pair as she stepped back from the large wheel.
"What's this?" Eddie moved past her to a small cabinet, the two girls watching as he opened it up and pulled out a green coloured jar with something long and slimy in it that Camilla instantly recognised.
"Pickled worms?" Camilla sounded surprised while KT tried not to look grossed out, Eddie shotting Camilla a strange look. How did she know that straight away and didn't seem bothered that someone had pickled worms.
KT shuddered as she watched Camilla take the jar from Eddie and hold it to the light before nodding her head as if confirming that it was what she told them it was. Eddie snatched the jar off the girl and put it back in the case where frozen frogs and skeletons of snakes in jars could also be seen.
"Who is Miss Denby?" Eddie couldn't help but murmur in horror at the sight of the jars.
"Maybe she's on some wacky diet." KT offered.
"These things are potion ingredients..." Camilla looked at them greedily wondering if she could somehow steal some to use in her own experiments.
"Frogs... snakes... crabs..." Eddie spoke as his eyes darted from jar to jar.
KT shuddered and looked away from the pair who were looking into the cabinet, "you're right... she's super weird!"
Eddie's head turned as he noticed KT's beeline towards the door, "no, we can't leave yet!"
His shout caused KT to turn to look at him, as he scrambled to his feet. Camilla closing the cabinet door on the ingredients knowing they were on a mission first and foremost. She could try to steal what she needed later.
"Guys, I'm getting really creeped out..." KT told the pair as they straightened to look at her.
"Not yet," Eddie begged softly.
"one more room," Camilla told the girl, who whimpered but didn't move away from the determined pair.
With that, the three turned to the large wooden double doors that were closed. The only doors in the small hallway they were in. Eddie pushed on them and with a loud horror movie like creak they opened to reveal a large study. On the back wall, a large organ was positioned along the wall, in the middle, a huge desk. A fireplace was on the left and a large red velvet couch that ran the length of the left wall. The whole place looked like it had been dropped out of a Hitchcock horror movie and as much as it was a compliment, it caused the hair on the back of Camilla's neck to stand on end.
"This place is huge..." Eddie whispered.
Camilla made a disagreeing noise-causing both KT and Eddie to look at her, "my family own a manor house... the ballroom could fit this room in it at least twice." Camilla looked at the desk before turning to face her friends, "and don't even get me started on Amber family home or the Lewis family Castle."
Eddie rolled his eyes amused at Camilla's 'rich girl' comment, and he leaned down to whisper loudly to KT, "Rich people issues am I right?" causing the new girl to let out a small laugh relaxing all three teens slightly. Even in the creepy room, they could make jokes... that was something positive.
Alfie waited until Mara had rushed from the room, clutching Alfie's homework to her chest – she did say anything to make it up to the boy for shouting at him. He highly doubted that 'Dump Jerome so he can get with Camilla' counted under anything in her mind, so he went with the second-best opinion which was to make the girl do his homework for him.
The moment she was clear, the boy bounded to his feet and rushed up to the little window between the kitchen and the dining room to talk to Jerome.
"Hey."
"Hey!" Jerome smiled at his best friend, before glancing at the now empty living room in slight confusion as he handed his friend the sandwich he had asked for, "I thought you were here to study..."
"Mara's got that covered," Alfie waved off the boy's question as he took a bite from the sand which.
"Where is..."
Alfie took a gulping swallow before answering his friend, "she needed some alone time." Alfie looked at his friend, "and I felt we both needed some man to man chatting, I need advice, and you need to explain to me this 'complication' you keep referring too whenever I bring up Jamilla."
Jerome groaned slightly but looked to his friend, "my advice to you is to take some time and really think, quietly, reflectively and by yourself."
Alfie gave the boy a look, he really thought it should be Jerome taking that advice not him but whatever he'd deal with that after he'd dealt with his own issues, "I accidentally picked up a message... for Amber, from that fashion school she went to in New York. And they offered her a place."
Jerome looked at the boy in surprise. That was amazing news, he knew Amber well enough to know how much she had worked for the place in fashion school. "okay... and this is an issue because..."
"I haven't told her," Alfie told him quickly with a nervous chuckle.
"oh, wow!" Jerome covered his mouth in shock. Alfie had pulled a Jerome level asshole move on this front. He hadn't told his girlfriend she had gotten into her dream school. This wasn't going to end well, not when Camilla found out anyway. "Alfie that is a truly terrible thing to do."
"is it really that terrible?" Alfie asked softly looking a little like a lost puppy.
Jerome let out a chuckle, "yeah... Milly is so going to murder you when she finds out, and I cant even imagine Amber's reaction."
"I was hoping for sneaky, maybe even a little rogue-ish... not your best friend will murder you," Alfie argued with the boy.
Jerome shook his head as he pulled a face, "nope. Sorry..."
"so what do I do?" Alfie pleaded, "if I tell her then she might leave, which might cause a whole set of issues, and if I don't then..." Alfie's voice softened as he realised what would happen if he didn't tell his girlfriend, "if I don't, then she misses out on a chance of a lifetime."
"say nothing," Jerome offered looking to his friend thoughtfully, "just stop her from checking her phone."
Alfie looked at the boy and smiled as he pulled her phone charger from her pocket.
"I'll admit that one... it's good." Jerome nodded his head proudly at his friends.
"well, this only works till she hunts down Cam..." Alfie mumbled quietly, "the girl probs has some charging spell or something,"
"Just keep your mouth shut, and everything will be fine. And don't tell Milly anything, you don't want to end up dead before you graduate," Jerome told him in what he hoped was a reassuring voice. That tactic wasn't exactly working for him, but he was in a very different situation than Alfie had found himself in.
Alfie looked at him, thoughtfully, "thanks, buddy. You have really helped me make my mind up."
"that's what best friends are for," Jerome happily told him.
"exactly, so I'm going to tell Camilla and ask her for her advice."
"What?"
"that's the great thing about having you and her as a friend," Alfie told Jerome, "whatever you suggest I normally do the opposite and when it comes to Amber... Cam has you beat."
Jerome looked shell shocked for a moment as Alfie leaned over and took his friends sandwich and put it on his plate, "when you are ready to talk about the drama happening in your life... I'll be in our room. You don't have long before Amber comes hunting though dude," with that Alfie left the room knowing he had to wait now for Jerome to approach him. Knowing the guy, it would be sooner rather than later... or he hoped it would be. Camilla deserved her happy ending.
Camilla had made herself comfy on the desk chair as she searched through papers. The girl had given up looking for keyholes that fit KT's key and had decided to look through Denby's papers to see if there was anything interesting to be found. Honestly, the only thing popping out to her was the year below her had some awful grades, or that Denby was a very harsh marker.
"I don't think we're going to find what we're looking for," KT sighed as she shut the cupboard door she was looking in, turning around to see Camilla with her feet up on Denby's desk looking through papers. Trying not to laugh at the sight of the girl who had clearly given up on the search.
Eddie backed away from the fireplace and glanced to KT, "why have a key unless you've got a lock." He groaned at the girls leaning on the desk by Camilla's feet as he ran a hand through his hair in frustration.
"Maybe..." KT walked forward to the pair raising a finger, "Maybe, it's in the shed of Anubis?! Or the pool house of Anubis? Or the porta-potty of Anubis?" she knew she was panicking a little and, in all honesty, she wanted out of the creepy building. From the synchronised head tilts and scrunched eyebrows from The Osirian and The Protector, she knew they knew the same. "I don't care anymore, guys... I want to get out of here."
"KT it's okay," Camilla whispered to the girl in a reassuring voice, pulling her feet down from the desk before standing to approach the girl slowly. "I promise I won't let anything happen to you or Eddie... it's my job to protect remember, comes with the title." KT looked to Camilla and saw the truth the girl spoke in her eyes, really wishing she had the same confidence as the girl in heels.
"let's just finish checking this room first," Eddie looked around the room with disgust on his face before looking to KT who was biting on her fingernail as she glanced between the two, taking a step closer to the magic-user. "you saw her leave; she's probably gone for the night. Enjoying herself...pickling things."
This comment caused a shudder from KT and a small laugh from Camilla which caused a grin to form on Eddie's face. "five more minutes okay?" Eddie looked between the girls who nodded their heads. They could do five more minutes of creepy.
"fine..." KT whispered, only smiling as Camilla held a hand out to the girl. If Eddie wanted to explore, as apparently, he did as the boy wandered over to the organ, that didn't mean the girls had to split up. KT gratefully took Camilla's hand and sent her a smile. They just had to cope with five more minutes.
Amber all but marched Joy and Patricia down the stairs on a hunt for her mobile. She had searched her, Mara and Camilla's room from top to bottom and hadn't found her charger nor Camilla's phone charger. The girl was trying not to panic, but she needed to get onto her phone ASAP.
"go search!" the girl ordered her friends as she noticed Jerome sat on the seat by the phone in the hallway, the boy tapping on the arm of the chair absentmindedly his face full of thought.
"but-" Joy started, but when Amber turned to give her a serious look, the girl rushed past the blonde and into the living room. There were some debates one didn't even walk into with Amber Millington, and this was clearly one.
Amber then turned to Jerome with a critical eye. She had promised Alfie she wouldn't meddle with the Jerome half of Jamilla until they had more information about Jara and Mara was out of the picture but when an opportunity to talk to the boy gifted itself to her, she wasn't going to not take it.
"Penny?" she said after a few seconds peace between the two.
Jerome startled a little, looking around until his eyes landed on Amber who was looking at him from the first step of the stairs, "Eh?"
"for your Camilla filled thoughts," Amber elaborated as she took a graceful step down, turning to look at him with her arms crossed a knowing smile on her face as her eyes settled on him.
Jerome let out a soft chuckle as he looked away from the blonde a small smile creeping onto his face, "that obvious, huh?"
"only to those of us in the know." Amber simply replied.
Jerome sighed, "everything has gotten so complicated, and I don't know how I am going to fix it." He told the blonde quietly, "I didn't want to hurt anyone and no matter what I do moving forward someone is going to get hurt."
Amber bit her lip before glancing to the living room where she saw Patricia and Joy looking at a magazine instead of helping look for her charger before she glanced back at the boy. "I'm sure you know where I stand in the situation," she started getting a nod of Jerome's head. Anyone who knew Amber knew she was on team Camilla. "but that also means I want your happiness too as well as her's... no one can do anything to deal with this situation but you, Jerome." The girl uncrossed her arms and sent the boy a small smile, "just remember though that people who wait for the right moment to do anything, end up waiting forever for that moment to come."
The boy looked away at her answer, but the pair both knew at that moment what was needed to be said had been said. Amber straightened up and wandered into the living room, making sure to shut the doors behind her to give Jerome the peace he needed to think over his thoughts.
The moment the doors where shut, however, Amber spoke up, causing Joy and Patricia to look up at her, as did Alfie who was sat at the dining table with a plate full of food. "This is very strange. First, I lose my phone," Amber started to pick up couch pillows to look under them, "now my phone charger. Why are you not searching?" she asked the best friend pair who rolled their eyes but got to their feet to start looking once again.
"um Amber, I need to talk to you," Alfie spoke up from the table as he watched the girls search the living room.
"Alfie not now love, I'm trying to find my charger..." Amber dismissed him with a wave of her hand; her eyes focused on the couch she was searching.
Alfie sighed before lifting the charger out of his pocket and raising it in the air for her to see.
"Oh, clever you!" Amber smiled at him, rushing forward to take the charger from her boyfriend. "Where was it? Please don't tell me Jerome had it, because the two of us just had a very meaningful heart to heart and I don't want to lower my opinion of him so soon."
Alfie hung his head a little, "hidden in my pocket..."
"Hidden." Amber repeated the word with a frown on her face, "Alfie, even by your regular standards that does not make sense. What are you talking about?"
"Amber –" Alfie went to tell her the truth about everything but was interrupted as a speeding Fabian came rushing into the room with his laptop open. The boy sitting down at the top of the dining room table and throwing open his laptop with a scream of.
"Major breakthrough!"
This caused the Sibuna's in the room to come scrambling to where the boy was sat.
"Did you break the code?" Amber asked excitedly.
Fabian nodded his head, "and I couldn't have done it without Joy."
Amber looked around as Joy and Patricia joined them, "Where is Camilla, she is missing out on huge Sibuna news."
"she went out after dinner..." Alfie shrugged also wondering where the girl was, and he needed to talk to her ASAP about this Amber Fashion school crisis he was in.
"Amazing!" Patricia let out a gasp causing the Amfie couple to look back at the screen, "it's some lines and dots..."
"What? No..." Fabian glanced up at Patricia with an unamused look, "it's a star map. The Dog constellation aka Camilla's favourite..."
"Canis Major," Amber breathed slightly looking at the constellation she knew her friend loved. She had never really been able to see it in the sky no matter how many times Camilla pointed it out. The lines Fabian had drawn on it had made things so much easier. "Is this one because Anubis had a dogs head, or because it is Camilla's favourite constellation? Do we need to warn her she's unwillingly involved in something creepy?" Amber spilt questions out to Fabian who bit his lip unsure of how to answer them.
"I think it's more to do with the significance of the Sirius Star," Fabian told them all getting blank looks as he looked at his friends, "it was important to the Egyptians because the star rose just before the sun each year immediately before the annual flooding of the Nile River."
"of course, Camilla would have an Egyptian themed favourite constellation." Patricia scoffed with a roll of her eyes.
"What did you expect? She is a Rutter. It's in their blood." Joy teased looking to Fabian who took the jab with a good-natured shake of his head before looking to the laptop once again.
"Now if I place the constellation over our clue..." Fabian mumbled as he did as he said, they could all see that certain squares had stars in them and others had been left untouched.
"It takes away some hieroglyphics I don't understand," Alfie frowned looking at the picture, "and leaves some other hieroglyphics I don't understand."
"So what does this mean exactly?" Amber asked Fabian, not really understanding the breakthrough he claimed he had.
Fabian opened his mouth but promptly shut it again, "I'll need another hour or so..."
"don't we just normally ask a ghost or something?" Patricia asked her friends glancing to them all, causing laughs from them all as Fabian looked at the screen.
"let me get back to my research." Fabian got to his feet and rushed to the door, Amber on his heel.
"we'll go back to Victor watch," Joy laughed as she pushed Patricia towards the living room.
"Amber could we –" Alfie started.
"Alfie, not now." Amber shook her head before following Fabian. Alfie sighing before rushing after the two of them.
Alfie was watching as Amber lay on Fabian's bed watching her phone charge up with a sigh. "this thing takes so long to charge..." she moaned at the two boys in the room.
"do you want a butterfly-shaped sandwich?" Alfie offered, holding out the bread he had bitten around to form a butterfly.
Amber turned her head to look at him in confusion, "sometimes I wish you had less weird hobbies, love."
"There's got to be something I can do in a hospital bed..." Alfie mumbled before his eyes landed on the photo of Camilla and Fabian and Gary the Goat, the male twin had framed by his bed. "or my grave..."
"What?" Amber questioned him.
"That's where I'll be once you and Cam are done with me."
"Alfie, do you have something you need to tell me?" Amber asked, looking to her boyfriend.
"I've got it!" Fabian sounded almost surprised by himself as he pushed away from the desk looking around at the two in his room excitedly. "Well, part of it anyway."
"Amber seriously we need to talk..." Alfie started once again but was hushed as Amber focused her attention on Fabian.
"Okay," Fabian lifted his notepad and read, "when the dark son is born in the English sky. The children of children sleep the day by. Give the loop of fire to the sleeping man. And the dark son of Egypt will rise again." Fabian's voice trailed off as he glanced at Amber, who mirrored the worry that flashed onto his face. It sounded magical and dangerous, which meant that there was a high chance Camilla would get dragged into it.
"Just checking that didn't make sense to anyone else?" Amber glanced to the boys in the room.
"Don't look at me; I just find the secret hieroglyphic notes. I don't interpret them." Alfie shrugged.
"It sounds magical though... maybe Cam might have an interpretation?" Fabian questioned softly looking at his notepad biting on his bottom lip.
"So, what now?" Amber asked them.
"We inform Cam of what we have found and... I don't know from there." Fabian shrugged. Nina was the leader, and with her gone, they didn't have someone guiding them.
There was a ping from Amber's phone, causing the girl's face to light up as she grabbed her phone, "Ohh, my missed calls!"
"Amber," Alfie got to his knees by the girl and spoke quickly, "it's the fashion school." Amber's head turned to look at him in a speed that caused even Fabian to be a little afraid for his friend. "they're offering you a place..." Alfie told her softly.
"um, no..." Amber shook her head at Alfie in disbelief. "if I had got a place, they'd have phoned me about it."
"they did phone you." Alfie told her looking apologetic, "I just didn't tell you..."
"WHAT?!"
"Amber, you could go to New York and do what you love," Alfie told her softly, looking at her with an adoring look. Knowing in his heart, Camilla would tell him that Fashion School was a choice Amber had to make herself. He would just have to let the woman he loved go for a while, and if Amfie were the end goal for the pair she'd find her way back into his life. "or you could stay here with the people you love. It's your choice. I'm sorry, I thought I could take it from you."
At the gatehouse, Eddie glanced at the two girls who were going through the books on Denby's desk before turning to the organ. Pressing down two keys causing the notes to be played loudly in the air around them causing KT and Camilla to jump before glaring at Eddie who bit his lip to stop himself from laughing at the pair.
"Asshole!" Camilla picked up a book and threw it at the boy who easily caught it.
"I'm sorry... I'm sorry!" Eddie laughed loudly before leaning against the wall next to the organ, causing the wall to open behind him and Eddie to topple into a secret room.
"Eddie!" the two girls shouted racing over to where he had disappeared into.
Eddie was sprawled on the ground and glanced up at the pair, "I think I found something..." he said weakly groaning as he got to his feet.
"it's a cupboard, behind an organ, with a door inside it?" KT started looking at what they found.
"yeah you get used to that kinda thing around here," Eddie shrugged Camilla humming in agreement to the boy's statement. Weird tunnels, secret doors, nothing surprised her much at Amun Academy anymore.
Eddie moved into the room and examined the door, pausing by the lock to see it had a symbol engraved into it. "That symbol..." he stood back to let the girls see.
Behind them, a door was heard slamming shut, causing them all to look around in fear. "Denby is back!" Camilla hissed, grabbing KT's hand and pulling her into the secret room behind the organ, before shutting the door with a soft thump.
"Hello?!" they heard the woman calling, causing Camilla to look at the other two apologetically. She probably didn't close the door as softly as she could have in her rush.
KT focused on the symbol, pushing open the lock cover and putting her key into it. Holding her breath as she turned the key and finally heard the soft click, she had been searching for. She'd finally found the door the key fit into. The girl pushed open the door, and she and Eddie rushed in. Camilla glancing at the door behind the organ once more before following behind them. Perhaps the secret room had somewhere they could hide, at least until they could sneak out of the gatehouse.
"Is somebody there?" they heard Miss Denby shout.
The stairs spiralled until they reached the top where they reached a small hallway with nothing but a door, KT and Eddie diving for the door, Camilla on their heels.
The room on the other side was dark, so dark they couldn't see anything, but there was a weird sound. It reminded Camilla of someone using Scooba gear.
"What is that?" KT nervously said as she hid behind a wall.
"It must be the pipes..." Eddie murmured.
Camilla stepped into the room, and her eyes widened as she finally took in what was making the noise. Behind her KT and Eddie nervously followed her footsteps. Unlike the girl, they couldn't help the screams that left their mouths at the horrific sight they saw.
