Hey, y'all! I'm doing better today (besides the fact that my choir concert is tomorrow and I'm missing it because of Covid and I'm flipping out because that's half of our grade). Anyway, I have been really excited for this chapter for a long time, so enjoy :-)
Tony and Pepper hadn't had a moment to themselves in a long time. And now that Rhodey was taking Morgan out and Peter was sleeping, the couple finally had a moment to drink and enjoy each other's company.
Tony sighed and wrapped his arm around his loving wife, who was finishing her glass of wine. Pepper smiled. "You're feeling romantic tonight. What's up?"
"What, do I need a reason to give my wife the attention she deserves?"
"With you, yes."
Tony gasped playfully. "How dare you."
"So what's really going on?"
Tony snuggled closer to his wife. "Things are just finally okay. Life hasn't been okay since 2012, Pep. I had a constant fear that Loki or the Chitauri was going to jump out behind me and wreak havoc on the city again. It was always hard to know who I could trust, and after Siberia-"
"You felt like you were alone." Pepper finished his sentence. There wasn't a moment that went by that Pepper didn't regret 'taking a break' from Tony back in 2016. That time was hard on him, and she wasn't there.
"Exactly," Tony continued. "And then I thought that things would get better. I met Peter, I got engaged to you, and life was good. Until Thanos.
"I felt like I had lost everything when Peter died right in front of me. And when I had the idea that I might have lost you too, I didn't want to go back. I didn't want to see what world I would have to live in without the people I love most in it."
"But you got everyone back," Pepper reminded him.
"Yes, I did. We got everything back and more. But I thought that I wouldn't get to see that beautiful world again. I wasn't supposed to. Strange said that I wouldn't."
"He told you that you were going to die?"
"Well, no, but he severely implied it. And when I snapped my fingers but still woke up a week later, I realized that my life would really get better.
"Well, that realization was a bunch of crap, of course. When Peter disappeared again, I felt the same thing that I did back on Titan. Emptiness. That hole in my heart that had begun to stitch itself back together was ripped apart again."
Pepper sat and pondered his words for a moment. "Is it healing again now?" She asked.
Tony smiled. "It's already stitched up."
The two leaned in and shared a kiss, which was interrupted by FRIDAY. "Excuse me, boss?"
"C'mon FRI, can't we just have one night?" Tony asked, pulling away from Pepper.
"I'm sorry boss, but I believe that you asked me to alert you if anything was wrong with Mr. Parker."
Both adults stood up. "What is it? What's wrong with Peter?" Pepper almost yelled at the A.I.
"He is experiencing another seizure and requires immediate attention. Do you want me to alert the rest of the team?"
Tony and Pepper didn't hear that last request, because they were already gone.
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
This one was bad, that's for sure. When you envision someone having a seizure in a movie, this is what it looks like.
Peter was shaking like there were a million ants crawling up and down his body. His hand hit the headboard and the wood broke as Tony, Pepper, and Bruce ran in. Although they had attended Bruce's seminar, Tony had no idea what to do and looked to the scientist pleadingly for answers.
"Put him on the floor so he won't hurt his hand," Bruce ordered. Pepper and Tony immediately grabbed the shaking boy and lowered him down to the carpet.
"Now hold his head so he won't hit it."
Tony followed Bruce's instructions and set Peter's head in his lap while running his fingers through the kid's shaggy hair. Peter was starting to calm down by now, but he was still shaking quite a bit and he drooled on the carpet. "It's okay, bud," Tony soothed. "Don't fight it."
That's when Natasha came running in with some fresh towels. She handed them to Pepper and sat down on the bed. "How is he?"
"This is definitely the worst one he's had. It should be over soon, I'm just glad we caught it when we did." Bruce answered.
Soon enough, Peter loosened up and started breathing normally again. Tony also took a deep breath as he put the boy back in bed.
"I'll stay with him tonight," Bruce offered. "Just in case."
Tony nodded and sat down next to the scientist. "And we already know I'm staying."
Natasha chuckled and looked over at Pepper. "Girls night?"
Pepper nodded. "Girls Night." She gave Tony a goodbye kiss and left with Black Widow.
