Shen Mi made her way down the hall as she held Anna in her arms. She looked annoyed as she carried the experiment towards Heath's workshop. The boy was supposed to have come by and taken her to Lifen for her checkup, but he never showed. If he thought she was going to pick up the slack he was dead wrong.
She hated being around those lower ranked losers, and she tried to do so as little as possible. So she wasn't about to let him off the hook. "Heath, where the heck are you, you buck toothed nerd!" she said as she made her way through the double doors of his workshop. She looked around and saw… a mess?
That was weird. The dork usually kept his workshop pretty clean. He whined every time she put even a single thing out of place… which she did so often to mess with him. How the heck did it end up like this. "Hey, where are you?" she asked as she floated towards the middle of the room.
Anna sniffed about before jumping from her arms. She made her way around the table, and Shen Mi followed after her. She then grew wide eyed when she saw Heath laying on the ground. "Oh crap…" she muttered. Was he… was he dead. She moved over and nudged him with her foot, and he stirred.
"Uh, five more minutes…"
She narrowed her eyes. Unbelievable. He was sleeping? "Hey, wake up!" she yelled.
Heath shot up, looking around panicked before he noticed Anna and Shen Mi in front of him. He scowled at the redhead. "Oh, it's you. What do you want? I'm busy."
"I want you to take Anna to her stupid appointment like you're supposed to! Not sleep on the floor like the lazy bum you are," she said, poking his nose. "
Heath cursed his breath. "Crud, that was today. Look, I can't. I'm working on a project… I'm working on a couple of projects actually."
She scoffed. That explained why his workshop was such a mess. But that wasn't her problem. "Yeah, well you got enough time to sleep apparently, so you're not getting off of the hook that easily. Whatever my stupid brother has you working on can wait for an hour or- Hey!"
She quickly floated forward and caught the boy, who had nodded off and been about to hit the floor face first. She was barely able to hold him up as he lightly snored, his head resting on her shoulder. She blushed and began shaking him. "H-hey! Get up! I'm not a pillow you moron!" she shouted.
He quickly woke backup and stood. "I'm fine! I'm awake!" he said looking panicked. "I… crud, seriously, I got to get back to work."
He had a million projects Drake had given him, and he was only halfway done. He knew it was going to be a challenge when Drake had dropped all of the tasks he wanted done on his desk, but he hadn't wanted to look lame and say he couldn't do it. He figured he could just grind it out and get them done.
He turned around to get back to the new weapon he'd been building, but Shen Mi grabbed his shoulder. "Hold on there buck tooth," she said, stopping him. "When's the last time you slept?" she asked.
"I don't know…" he muttered with a scowl. "Who cares anyway."
Shen Mi glanced around the room and noticed quite a few empty cans of energy drinks around the place. She also noticed he had some pretty dark bags under his eyes, and he barely looked like he could stand.
"Go to sleep…"
"What?"
"I said go to sleep. Like now."
He rolled his eyes. "I can't sleep after I finish-"
"Or you can do what I saw and sleep now!" she said threateningly. "Go back to your room, and go to sleep! And remember that you owe me one for taking Anna over to that loser house when it was your turn!"
"But I-!"
She grabbed the front of his shirt and yanked him forward. "Shut up, and go to bed already!" she said as she pulled him towards the door. "You might already be a lame lackey, but I can't have you being completely useless like this! Then what would even be the point of keeping you around?!"
Heath was clearly confused. What the heck did she care if he was tired? He was about to tell her he was fine, but then the doors opened in front of them. He flinched when he saw both Drake and Delta making their way in. The two looked down at the young witch and cyborg with their usual stoic expressions.
Drake raised an eyebrow towards his sister. "Shen Mi? What are you doing here? I do hope you weren't bothering Heath again. He's very busy at the moment."
"You two and fool around later," Delta said, crossing her arms. "We came to check on how you were progressing with the list of projects you were assigned."
Heath scratched the side of his head. "Yeah, I'm still working on-"
"He's going to sleep," Shen Mi said, cutting him off. "He'll work on the rest of your stupid projects tomorrow. Now get out of the way."
Heath flinched, and both Drake and Delta looked down at the girl with narrowed eyes. "I'm sorry, but I didn't know that you were the one now handing out assignments. I asked Heath how he was progressing, not you," Delta said.
Shen Mi floated up to meet her gaze. "And I gave you an answer. He's my lackey, so I'm speaking for him," she said. "He's gonna be completely useless if you keep running him ragged like this, so he's going to bed until he's a little less useless."
"I'm not your lackey!" Heath argued.
Delta and Shen Mi kept glaring at one another, and Drake sighed. This was just what he needed. The two most annoying women in his life biting at each other's throats.
"Listen Shen Mi, Heath is perfectly capable of-"
Shen Mi growled, her eyes glowing and green flames appearing around her body. Drake held his hands up, and Delta looked at her slightly surprised. Even Heath flinched. "No you listen! You may get to boss around the rest of these losers, but this one is my lackey! I'm the only one who gets to run him into the ground! So if I say he's going to sleep, then he's going to sleep!" she barked.
There was a long moment of silence, and then Delta looked down at Heath. The boy looked like he was seconds away from just dropping. "When was the last time that you went to sleep?" she asked.
Heath grew wide eyed. "What? I-I don't know. I'm fine."
Drake hummed. "Perhaps my sister has the right idea. You're clearly exhausted, and you're not going to be proficient or productive in this state," he said. "Go and rest for today. We can go over your progress tomorrow."
"But I-"
"It's fine. You did say you were ahead of schedule in your email," Delta said waving him off. "And be sure this doesn't happen again. Work ethic is fine, but proper rest is essential to productivity."
Heath looked back and forth between the two, and Shen Mi kicked him in the back. "Well, get going loser," she said, crossing her arms.
He scowled towards her. "Whatever…" he muttered. If Drake and Delta were cool with it, then he wasn't going to argue with them.
As he made his way off, Drake turned towards his sister. "I have to say Shen Mi, it's quite odd to see you taking such an interest in other members' well being."
Shen Mi huffed. "Don't read into it. It's as simple as me not like you breaking my stuff. That's all," she said simply.
Delta smirked. "So he's yours now, is he?"
"You know what I meant!" Shen Mi barked. "Uh! I'm leaving! Tell that weirdo nerd Lifen to be ready when I show up with Anna. I don't want to have to hang around there for long and get their low rank stench on me."
She floated off, heading in the same direction at Heath. Before she left, she had to make sure he actually went to bed. Knowing that, he might try to go play games or something like that.
That idiot really should have been grateful. Most bosses didn't look after their lackeys like this. He was going to have to take Anna to see Lifen for the next three times to make up for this. "Lucky little beaver boy…" she muttered.
Delta hummed as she watched the redhead leave. "I suppose you'll be wanting to keep a closer eye on Heath," she said, looking amused.
"And why would I do that?" Drake asked.
She raised an eyebrow at him. "You know what, never mind…"
"Wait, you don't think… no, she sees him as a mere lapdog."
"If you insist."
"I… damn it, I may have to keep a closer eye on him…"
