Chapter 10 - Omegas' Day Out
Kate's POV
Humphrey had taken me out to the Moonlight Howl last night, and it was the best night I've ever had. We both fell in love with each other that night and, I guess, that made us boyfriend/girlfriend. Since he arrived I've always been spending time with him, not because I didn't have any other friends, but because I always had a strange feeling whenever I was around him. Last night, I found out I had that strange feeling because I had fallen in love with him.
I woke up inside of my family's den, just as the sun was rising above the mountains and peeking into the valley. The light started shining into the den and I groaned as stood up, I let out a whine as I leaned back and stretched my back from being curled up all night. A presence stood in the entrance of the den, blocking out the sunlight, "ah, good morning, sweetie", Mom said, then I heard paw-steps enter the den.
I laid back down on the den floor and opened my eyes, "good morning, Mom", I said.
"How was your night, sweetie?", Mom asked.
I smiled, "it was the best night of my life", I answered, "Humphrey and I howled with each other, then we admitted our feelings to each other and howled some more, then we came home".
"Did the two of you kiss?", Mom asked.
"Mom!", I exclaimed.
"What?", Mom asked, "I can't be curious?".
I chuckled, "yes, we did kiss", I said, "I kissed him twice at the Moonlight Howl, and then he kissed me good night".
"Okay, I didn't need to know that many details", Mom said, "I just wanted to know if you're happy with him".
"I love him, Mom", I said, "was that what you wanted to hear?".
"As long as you're happy, I'm happy", Mom replied, "okay?".
I smiled, "thank you, Mom", I said, "you mind if I go sleep in his den tonight?".
"Not at all", Mom answered, "but if I find out the two of you did anything, I'll-".
"You wouldn't kill him, would you?", I asked.
Mom sighed, "no, I would never kill my friend's son", she answered, "but both of you will definitely be in serious trouble".
"You don't have to worry about that, Mom", I said, "we'll wait before we do that".
"That's good to hear", Mom said, "you can run along now, I think Humphrey is-".
"Standing right behind you", Humphrey said, Mom turned around to see Humphrey standing behind her at the den's entrance.
"Good morning, Ma'am", he said to Mom, bowing his head a little, then he turned towards me, "and how's the love of my life this morning?".
I smiled, "I'm fine, Humphrey", I answered, "but, what are you doing here? I thought you would be out having fun with your friends".
"Well, yeah", Humphrey said, "but you're also my friend, Kate, and it wouldn't be the same without you there with us".
"You mean with you?", I asked.
He blushed, which made me smile, "I'll come, Humphrey", I said, "I was just about to find you anyway".
"Well, then let's go", Humphrey replied, then looked at Mom, "you have a good day, Eve".
"I will, Humphrey", Mom replied, "you two have fun, but not too much fun, you hear me?".
"Loud and clear, Ma'am", Humphrey said, then left the den with me following behind him.
I caught up to him and started walking beside him, "so, what's the plan for today?", I asked, as I gently bumped into his side.
"Well, we're going to go meet up with the guys, because they want to have another log-sledding race", he answered, "I know we'll win because they don't have a chance at beating us".
"Naturally", I replied, "we make the best team".
"After that, Salty had the idea to play a game of Truth or Dare", Humphrey said.
I groaned, "those are not fun", I said, "although, I'll admit it's pretty funny when you make others make a fool of themselves".
Humphrey chuckled, "yeah, that was his idea, and we'll gather up everyone who wants to play", he replied, "right now, that would be us, Salty, Shakey, Mooch, and Janice".
"Janice wants to play?", I asked, surprised.
"Yeah, her and her sister, Reba", Humphrey answered.
We arrived at the base of the hill that we usually log-sled down and sat down beside each other, waiting for the others to arrive. After a few minutes, I was starting to get bored, then I got an idea, "what should we do while we wait?", I asked, putting my plan in motion.
"Just sitting beside you and talking is enough for me", Humphrey said, "but, is there something you want to do while we wait?".
'This is almost too easy', I thought to myself, "well…", I said, then I pushed him onto his back and kissed him while I stood over him. I pulled away from the kiss and smiled at him, "you really love me, don't you?", Humphrey asked.
"Yep", I answered, then I leaned in about to kiss him again, but we were interrupted.
"Ahem", Salty cleared his throat, we quickly looked up to see Salty, Shakey, and Mooch, standing there watching us.
"I take it the date went well?", Shakey asked, even though he already knew the answer.
"Sorry, guys", Humphrey said, then I got off of him and felt my face flush from embarrassment.
"How about we just forget what we saw and start our race?", Mooch suggested.
"Humphrey and I are going to destroy you", I said, "shall we get started?".
Humphrey and I started to go up the hill, but Salty stopped us, "Hold up", he said, "this time, it's going to be Humphrey and I against you, Shakey, and Mooch".
"Why?", I asked.
"Even the odds", Salty explained, "you and Humphrey always win, this time we're going to switch things up a bit, so that one of you will have to lose".
I grinned, "we'll see about that", I said, then went over to Shakey and Mooch, while Salty went up the hill with Humphrey.
"Sorry about Salty", Shakey whispered in my ear, "he's not very happy with what I did yesterday".
"What did you do?", I asked.
"We were supposed to be log-sledding yesterday, but I had to get ready for my date with Janice", he explained, "so, I suggested we do individuals, see who's the best sort of thing".
"Okay", I said, "but why was he not happy with that?".
"Because while we were going down the hill, I went in my own direction and didn't return", Shakey answered, "simply put, I abandoned them".
"But, what does that have to do with Salty splitting Humphrey and I up?", I asked.
"I think he just wants to make sure it doesn't happen again with you and Humphrey", Shakey said, "just go along with it, all he wants is a good race".
We reached the top of the hill, where there were already two logs ready to go. "Hey, Kate!", Humphrey called out to me, as he ran over to me, "there's something I want you to do".
"What's that?", I asked.
He whispered into my ear what he wanted me to do, "you're sure about this?", I asked, "I don't want you to get hurt".
"I'll be fine, Kate", he said, "think you could do that?".
I grinned mischievously, "of course", I said, "I'd only be glad to".
"Hey, Humphrey!", Salty shouted, "come on!".
Humphrey ran back over to Salty and got into their log, ready to go. Shakey, Mooch, and I, got into our log, "ready?!", I shouted.
"Get set!", Humphrey shouted.
"Go!", we all shouted in unison.
Humphrey and Salty immediately took the lead and were now speeding down the hill ahead of us. The three of us crouched down and we sped up, catching up to Humphrey and Salty. I looked over to Humphrey, who was on my right, and he nodded, "when I say, shift your weight to the right", I told them.
"Got it!", they replied back.
I waited until we were a full log-length ahead of Humphrey and Salty, "now!", I shouted, and we immediately made a sharp turn to the right, forcing Humphrey and Salty to slow down to avoid hitting us. As we crossed in front of them, we kicked up a ton of snow towards them, then turned back to the left to go down the hill. They were buried under all the snow and they poked their heads up just in time to see they were about to crash into the lake. Humphrey immediately turned the log to get back onto the course and came up beside us. All the snow in their log weighed them down and it sped them up, making them pull ahead of us. I noticed we were almost at the bottom of the hill and we were about to hit a ramp-like rock, "Mooch!", I shouted, "lower the boom!".
Mooch did as he was told just as we hit the ramp and we went flying into the air, soaring over Humphrey and Salty's heads. I smiled down at them as we passed over and landed right in front of them, unfortunately the back end of our log hit the front end of theirs and they were launched ahead. Humphrey and Salty flew over our heads and landed in a snowbank at the base of the hill. We slid to a stop just before the snowbank they landed in and I quickly hopped out to see if they were okay. I started digging Humphrey out, while Shakey and Mooch dug out Salty, after a few minutes I found fur and realised it was Humphrey's tail. I grabbed his tail in my jaws and gently pulled him out of the snow, thankfully it was all light and powder, so it was fairly easy to pull him out. Shakey and Mooch found Salty and pulled him out as well, both Humphrey and Salty were shivering from the cold. I wrapped myself around Humphrey's body in an attempt to warm him up and shortly after he stopped shivering. "Thank you, Kate", he said, "that wasn't very smart, now was it?".
I chuckled, "well, we didn't plan on hitting the two of you, it just happened", I said, "but, at least you're both okay".
Salty jumped up and glared at me, "it was your fault!", he shouted at me, "if you weren't so determined on winning, this wouldn't of happened!".
"Salty, calm down!", Humphrey shouted, "it was not her fault!".
Salty looked at him with a shocked expression, "I told her to do that to us", Humphrey said.
"Why?", Salty asked.
"I wanted to see how well she would do on her own when log-sledding", Humphrey explained, "and to teach you a lesson about friendship, lately you haven't been acting as yourself, the Salty I know is kind and friendly, and you haven't been either of those for the whole day so far".
Salty opened his mouth, as if he was about to say something, but he sighed, "alright, I guess I have been acting differently", he said, "I'm sorry for everything, especially you Shakey".
"It's okay, Salty", Shakey replied, "if I were in your position, I might've done the same thing".
"Humphrey!", Mom called out to him.
We turned to see her walking up to us, "Mom?", I asked, "what are you doing here?".
"I need to speak with Humphrey, dear", she said, "won't be too long".
"Okay, Eve", Humphrey said, "I'll meet the rest of you in my den for Truth or Dare".
"We'll go find Reba and Janice", Salty said, then him, Shakey, and Mooch left.
"I'll wait for you in your den, Humphrey", I said, then ran off, leaving him and Mom alone.
Humphrey's POV
Kate just left to go wait for me in my den, leaving Eve and I alone, "what did you need to talk about?", I asked.
"Shortly before you arrived, Winston and I were working on a new rank, basically promoting one wolf to lead the Omegas", Eve explained, "the Omegas' Leader will have the same authority as another Alpha and will be attending the monthly pack meetings".
"So, why are you telling me this?", I asked, then Eve gave me a look that told me everything, "you're kidding me, right?".
Eve shook her head, "I'm serious, Humphrey", she said, "before Winston left to to teach Alpha School, he told me to promote you as the Omegas' Leader when you've shown you were ready".
"We'll make it official tomorrow", Eve finished, "you have a good rest of your day".
"Uhh, yeah you too", I replied, nervously.
Eve chuckled, "don't worry, Humphrey", she said, "you'll do fine as the Omegas' Leader".
Eve started to leave to continue her duties for the day, but she stopped and turned around, "oh, and Humphrey...", she said.
"Yeah?", I asked.
"Keep this just between the two of us, okay?", she asked.
"I'll do my best", I said, "we're playing Truth or Dare later today".
"Well, if they ask, just tell them it's classified until tomorrow morning", Eve replied, then she left.
"The Omegas' Leader?", I asked myself, "me?".
I shrugged off the thought and headed towards my den, when I got there, I found Kate, Salty, Shakey, Mooch, Janice and another female, whom I guessed was Reba, all waiting in my den. "There you are, Humphrey!", Kate exclaimed, "what did my mom need to talk to you about?".
"That's a little difficult to explain", I answered, "but you'll find out tomorrow morning".
"Alright, well I think everyone is here now, so shall we get started?", Salty asked.
We all sat around in a circle with a stick in the middle, the stick had a leaf on the end to show where it's pointing, "who wants to go first?", Shakey asked.
"I will", Kate said, then spun the stick, it kept spinning until it stopped and pointed towards Reba.
"Reba, Truth or Dare?", Kate asked.
"Truth", Reba answered.
"Who do you like most?", Kate asked.
"Like as a friend or crush?", Reba asked.
"Either or", Kate said.
"I like Janice as a friend", Reba said, then she spun the stick again and it pointed towards me.
"Humphrey, Truth or Dare?", Reba asked me.
"Truth", I answered.
"Explain to us what Eve talked to you about", Reba said, smiling mischievously.
"That is classified", I explained, "at least, until tomorrow morning".
"If you don't tell us, Humphrey, we'll-", Kate started, but I cut her off.
"Whatever it is, it can't be worse than what your mother would do, if she found out I broke Pack Law", I said, "I just got into this pack three months ago, I'm not going to do anything that'll get me banished or even killed".
The six of them all looked at me with surprised expressions, "wow", Salty said, after a few moments of silence, "spoken like a true Alpha".
"Is that a bad thing?", I asked.
"No, it was just unexpected", Kate answered, "if you don't want to tell us, that's fine, then spin the stick".
I spun the stick and it pointed towards Mooch, "Mooch", I said, "Truth or Dare?".
"Truth", he answered.
"What is with everyone picking Truth?", Salty asked.
"Go on, Humphrey", Janice said.
"Who do you have a crush on?", I asked.
"What makes you say I have a crush on someone?", Mooch asked.
"The fact you just said that", I answered, making Mooch blush, "come on, what's her name?".
"Candy", he answered.
"Really?!", Janice exclaimed, "well, she's going to be really happy".
Mooch looked at her confused, "what do you mean?", he asked.
"Reba and I found out she has a crush on you as well", Janice explained, "if you want I can put in a good word to her".
"No, no, that's not necessary", Mooch said, "if what you say is true, then I want to talk to her myself".
"Suit yourself", Janice replied, "but the question is, will you be able to talk to her?".
Mooch blushed heavily, "okay, enough of that", I said, "it's your turn, Mooch".
Mooch spun the stick and it pointed towards Kate, "Kate, Truth or Dare?", Mooch asked.
"Dare", Kate answered.
"Kiss Humphrey", Mooch said.
"With pleasure", Kate replied, then pounced on me and kissed me passionately.
"Hey, he dared to kiss him, not make out with him", Salty said.
Kate pulled away and let me up, "I know", she replied, "but I just wanted to do that".
"Yeah, well, do it in a more private setting", Salty said, "now come on, spin the stick".
Kate spun the stick and it pointed at Salty, "Salty, Truth or Dare?", Kate asked.
"Dare", Salty answered.
"I dare you to go jump into the lake", Kate said, and we all looked at her like she was insane.
"You crazy?!", Salty exclaimed, "it's freezing cold!".
"If you don't do it, I get to kick you where it hurts", Kate replied.
"Fine!", Salty shouted, then he quickly ran out of the den. A few minutes later, we heard a splash and a loud yelp a few seconds later, Salty quickly ran back into the den, damp and shivering. Reba quickly wrapped herself around him and shortly after he stopped shivering. We all looked at her with curious expressions, "what?", she asked, "I'm keeping him warm".
Salty spun the stick and it pointed at Shakey, "Shakey, Truth or Dare?", Salty asked.
"Truth", Shakey answered.
"What happened yesterday that you ditched us during our log-sledding run?", Salty asked.
"I had to go to the Moonlight Howl with my date", Shakey answered.
We all looked at him with shocked expressions, everyone except Kate, Janice, and I, "you...who did you go with?", Salty asked.
"He went with me", Janice answered, then she snuggled up against Shakey.
"How long has this been going on?", Reba asked Janice, "you never told me you had a boyfriend".
"That's because there are somethings you don't need to know, sis", Janice said, "and to answer your question, we've been dating for about two months".
Shakey spun the stick and it pointed towards Reba, "Reba, Truth or Dare?", Shakey asked.
"Truth", Reba answered.
"Do you have a crush on Salty?", Shakey asked.
Reba blushed, "yes", she whispered under her breath, we didn't hear her, but since Salty was right beside her, wrapped up in her legs, he was able to hear her.
"Seriously?", he asked.
Reba hesitantly nodded and Salty smiled, "I've had a crush on you as well, Reba", he said.
They started to lean in, as I looked outside and noticed it was getting dark out, "well, it's starting to get late", I said, "so, I think that's enough for today".
Salty, Shakey, Mooch, Reba, and Janice, all left the den, Salty and Reba were giggling to themselves, while Shakey and Janice were doing the same. Mooch went off to his own den for the night, Kate stayed behind, "don't you have to get home?", I asked her, "I don't want your mother to think I'm forcing you to stay".
"Actually, I asked her this morning if I could sleep here tonight", Kate said, "you don't mind, do you?".
"I don't mind", I answered, "I actually prefer the company, it does kind of get lonely some nights".
Kate smiled, "so, what do you want to do now?", she asked.
"Honestly, I'm too tired to think right now", I said, as I laid down in the back of the den, "so, I'm going to go to sleep for the night".
Kate yawned, "yeah, I'm pretty tired too", she said, then she laid down beside me, which surprised me, "that log-sledding took a lot out of us, didn't it?".
"Yeah, it did", I replied, "well, good night, Kate".
"Good night, Humphrey", she replied, then we closed our eyes and fell asleep.
A/N: Well, that's it for now. How was it? This last chapter turned out to be a lot longer than I expected, but it wasn't too bad.
