‼️DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ CHAPTER 23 ONWARD‼️

~ 19th of January ~

I really need to get my shit together and stop questioning myself like that. Both Christian and Grace are so happy, and here I am moaning about my life as if I had something to complain about. For goodness sake, I managed to get myself out of it the four years ago, I can beat this.

I read a book last month about the power of affirmation, and so I am going to give this a try.

Affirmation 1: I am happy.

Affirmation 2: All is well.

Affirmation 3: I am happy.

Anyway, today I had my first case to court, and I got the emancipation I asked! I'm so happy for this kid. Brenda and Leo promised to keep me up to date with how he's doing, and if he struggles, I'll help him out. After all, if Jamie could do it, anyone can.

But surprise, surprise, I get accosted by someone who works for the State Governor, Johnnie Marshall. I'm pretty sure Raymond has something to do with that, but I may be wrong. He tries to convince me to work for the governor since he shares my stance to help underprivileged kids, but I just let him know I'll think about it.

I know Christian isn't really fond of politicians and always did his best to keep his public image far from them, so I don't want to go in his back and create a frenzy with the press.

So when he gets home, I let him know about it as he eats what Sarah has cooked and sends a few last emails before bed.

"I won my case today,"

"Oh, congrats babe. Did you put some champagne in the fridge so we can celebrate?" I shake my head and so he kisses me with a proud smile.

"I also have been approach by Governor Marshall."

This takes him away from his phone. I smile, and explain, "He wants me to work with him."

"And what did you say?"

"I wanted to talk to you first."

Christian grimaces. "Isn't he rumoured to run for Senate, next election?"

"Yes?"

"Well, if you work with him, you're going to endorse him, and I'll implicitly do the same. I ... I'd rather you didn't."

"But he has the power to actually help children. And if he becomes Senator, he will have even more opportunities to do so."

"And if he becomes Senator, you'll have to go to Washington. We just moved here, and you want us to move again in barely a couple of years?"

"I don't have to follow him there."

He smiles condescendingly. "If he's poaching you, he's not going to let you slip if he goes to the shark tank. Babe ... what about US? Your FAMILY?"

I frown, seeing his point. I only thought of being able to help kids on a larger scale and didn't think of all the consequences. Just my own gratification, because I'm that selfish. I'll turn down the Governor and focus more on our family.

So I nod, smiling and he pecks my lips. We go to bed, and I go to sleep thinking of my affirmations.

Affirmation 1: I'm happy.

Affirmation 2: All is well.

Affirmation 3: I'm happy.
