Chapter 9

The Wolfblood had taken great delight in watching the drama. Through the phones of the teenagers, she'd heard everything. So, Jana was a wild Wolfblood. That explained it. That was why she was so difficult to see. She sat back and let out a breath, reaching for a bottle of water beside her. She'd set up rain catchers some time ago and as a result was never short on drinking water. Most of her operation was set up on the roof, save for the apartment block underneath her. There were a lot of younger couples there and so breaking into one of them on a night someone was out partying was never hard. Security there wasn't exactly tight, unlike the Segolia house. The Wolfblood had downloaded the plans from their database and that place was like a fortress.

Even without the gnomes, the traps that could await her numbered in the dozens including ultrasonic sirens, laser trip mines, gun racks that were stocked and maintained at all times and finally, the last resort. Two-hundred detonation charges lined the walls and floors of every downstairs room. The structure was built so that the detonation would obliterate the bottom floor and bring the top floor down on top of it. If the intruder somehow evaded the explosion, there was no way to not be crushed by the collapse of upstairs. The survival of everyone upstairs was fifty-fifty and depended entirely upon whether they could hold on to something sturdy, jump at the right moment or brace themselves properly. It almost certainly wouldn't be without injury and was definitely a final solution. Attacking the house was definitely too dangerous. But maybe she could cause havoc elsewhere.

The Wolfblood sighed and leaned back on the roof, adjusting the plate of cooked meat on her lap. She wasn't about to concede defeat. She would find a way to have her vengeance one way or another through hell or high water. That meant drawing Maddy out of the house. The only problem was how. There was no way that Maddy's parents would let her leave of their own free will. She would have to find another way to get to her. Just as she planned to explore how further, she sensed an incoming transmission to the safehouse.

"Sweeney to safehouse control, do you read?"

"This is Robyn on safehouse control. Go ahead."

"We've had another killing, but this one's different. This one's a human of about eight. Her name was Madeline Ingham."

"A human child? That's a big leap." Robyn's voice carried a note of uncertainty and the Wolfblood's heart sped up as an adrenaline rush hit her at the mention of her own actions. She was inspiring fear not just in Maddy and her family but in the trained agents who were supposed to protect her. This in itself was a victory.

"There's more." Sweeney continued. "Some of the bones had Wolfblood tooth marks on them. The post mortem of our last victim has come in too and turned up the same result." There was a pause as the news sunk in. The Wolfblood grinned at Robyn's disgusted tone as she spoke again, her voice threatening to give out over the level of depravity.

"We're not just looking for a rogue Wolfblood. We're looking something much, much worse."

Author's Note: Okay, this chapter is rather short and so this will be a double-update. Hope you guys enjoy!
