CHAPTER NINE

Deadpool found himself back in the big white emptiness. He yelled in fury, snatched the Temporal Dial from off his wrist and then threw it across the big white void.

"I'm finished with this, voice guy!" Deadpool shouted up at the white nothingness. "I'll just stay right here for eternity. It's a fitting end for a guy like me. I have no empathy. I kill people and have zero remorse about it. Hell, I just killed my own father."

He then sat on the ground of the white nothingness and folded his arms. It was then that he noticed that the Temporal Dial was still attached to his wrist.

"Seriously!" Deadpool exclaimed. "I'm done with the time travelling shit! Is that the moral of the story? Stay in your own time line or else you'll suffer the consequences. Is that what this is!?"

The ethereal voice spoke out, "Their is no moral to the story, Wade Wilson. You fail to understand the importance of the mission you're undertaking."

"There is nothing important about this mission!" Deadpool shouted. "It's just a geek's over imagination running amok while he wiles away his hours during a global pandemic. Mystery solved."

He then heard someone approach from behind him and he shot up and saw that it was Charles Xavier in his wheel chair.

"Really?!" Deadpool shouted up into the big white emptiness. "You're going to trap Xavier in this big white nothing too. Or is he a hostage you've placed here to motivate me to finish the mission. Because that's just stupid. I'm highly unmotivatable! Besides, he's a good man. He doesn't belong here."

"Neither do you." Xavier said. "You say you kill people and have zero remorse about it but I can see the toll that having killed your father is having on you. I've been watching you for a long time Wade Wilson and I can see the changes that have started to shape you into a good man. You'll never be a great man but through accidental means or purposeful means, you actually manage to do more good than harm. Most of the time."

Deadpool looked at him curiously. "What do you mean that you've been watching me for a long time? You literally just met me."

"I'm the Chronicler of Time, Wade Wilson." Xavier spoke, but this time he spoke with the ethereal voice that had been speaking with Deadpool this far. "I've been with you since you left the year of 1992 so that I might guide you on your journey."

"What the hell did you do with the 1992 Charles Xavier?" Deadpool asked.

"When you and Nathan Dayspring left 1992 I intervened and left Charles Xavier there in his current timeline outside of his school for gifted youngsters. When we emerged in 1949 it was actually me impersonating Xavier from there on out."

Deadpool shook his head. "You were so convincing as Xavier. Everything that came out of your mouth was so Charles Xaviery. You were even mournful about your lost hair."

The Chronicler of Time in Xavier's form smiled as a head full hair emerged on top of his head. "You forget that I've chronicled all of Time and that I know all the subjects from all time. Perhaps better than they know themselves."

"So what happened with the inconsistencies of the timeline then?" Deadpool asked. "Did you become lazy and let some of the continuity issues slip by you or something?"

The Chronicler of Time shook his head. "No, I did not. That is the work of another entity that despises the flow of Time. He has gradually and in small ways disrupted the over arching continuity of Time for many years. That is why you are so vital to this mission, Wade Wilson. For reasons beyond even my understanding you have a certain awareness of the inconsistencies within both timelines."

"What is this other entity you speak of?" Deadpool asked.

"The other entity I speak of is called the Disruptor of Time and he is nearly as old as I am. As far back as I can remember I have always had to keep his machinations of the timeline at bay. Unfortunately the universe and it's many timelines are far too much for me to conceivably notice every single detail.

"Which is why their are small loopholes in the timelines. Such as Charles Xavier being able to walk in certain scenarios of the timeline when he was actually paralyzed during said time. Another loophole being that Jubilation Lee or sometimes called Jubilee was a young student during the 2000's and also a young student during the 1980's. Or why Warren Worthington III also known as Angel was a young man in the 2000's and then popped up as a young man in the 1980's.

"All are very small details that slipped past me over time but if enough of those small details continues to pile on then eventually the timelines will unravel and the universe will implode upon itself. If that happens then the universe will have to be rebooted anew all over again."

Deadpool chuckled. "I think that's already in the works, Time Guy. It's called the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

"Be that as it may, we must correct the inconsistencies that have already taken place." The Chronicler of Time announced. "You've already accomplished that in a very big way when you prevented the death of Raven Darkholme also known as Mystique in the year of 1992. That event was perhaps the Disruptor of Time's boldest move to date and had that event not been corrected then the timeline may have very well imploded in upon itself."

Deadpool shook his head. "So, what you're saying is that it's up to me to save the universe. Crazy old Wade Wilson who isn't sane enough or compassionate enough to even be on the X-Men team. Is that what I'm getting from this?"

The Chronicler of Time nodded. "Essentially yes...with my help of course. I have the power to fix the continuity issues that weren't even apparent to me until you started pointing them out."

Deadpool pointed his finger at the Chronicler of Time, "Hold that thought." He then addressed the fanfiction readers. "Okay, I think I'm starting to see where this story is going. Gotta say I'm kinda digging the whole being the savior of the universe shtick. Bravo fanfiction writer guy because that means you had a helping hand in saving the timeline as well seeings how you cooked up this whole debacle in that over active head of yours. But I know that none of this is how you planned the story to go from the beginning. You're flying by the seat of your pants fella and making all this shit up chapter by chapter."

Deadpool turned his attention back to the Chronicler of Time. "So, what I'm gathering from our little excursions in the timeline is that everything we're doing is fixing continuity issues."

"That is correct." The Chronicler of Time confirmed.

"So, does that mean that the Wade Wilson from 1979 was initially a huge continuity issue within the timeline that you had corrected by turning him into my father?"

The Chronicler of Time studied him silently for a moment before speaking. "Do you really want to know the answer to that question?"

Deadpool thought a moment and then shook his head. "Probably not."

In the far distance of the endless expanse of white nothingness, a dark black emptiness started to formulate. The black emptiness was gradually growing larger as it started heading near Deadpool and the Chronicler of Time.

"What the hell is that?" Deadpool asked. "Did you forget to pay the light bill."

"No, that is the Disruptor of Time. He has become aware of our efforts in restoring the continuity of the timeline and he is none too pleased about it. I suggest we get back to the mission at hand."

Deadpool nodded. "Alright. Let's get this show back on the road. Let's go save the universe!"

The Temporal Dial started going off again and just as the black nothingness was upon them, both Deadpool and the Chronicler of Time in the form of Xavier, disappeared.

Barely a minute had passed when both Deadpool and Xavier had left Cable there in the debris left behind by the cooling tower. The police cruisers were getting closer and Cable had just uttered, "Well, shit."

Then Deadpool and Xavier emerged back on the spot where they had just previously disappeared.

Cable grabbed a hold of Deadpool. "You son of bit..."

Deadpool explained as the Temporal Dial started going off again. "Don't get mad at me, Cable. We were in the part of the story where the gallant hero has a crisis of faith and had to be guided back in the right direction to further the plot. So here I am with my faith restored. Now onto our next destination!"

The three of them then disappeared from the scene just as the police cruisers pulled up to the scene.
