Chapter 10: The Nightengale
I watched in horror as the spell was ignited. The blood that was created was from Sofia. I felt my stomach drop as I saw the face. I took a few steps back. I looked at anything but the Royal Sorcerer and his family. I definitely looked away from the rest of the occupants from the room.
"Who is this girl?" someone asked.
"Sofia, my older sister. I am going to murder that man," I stated. Everyone looked at me strangely.
"That is the first time that I have ever heard you ever talking about murdering someone. Princess Evelyn, are you alright?" Darragon asked. I turned to look at him. I gave him a small smile.
"No, I came here for help, because that man had taken my family, do you honestly think that I would be here if I was happy?" I asked as I looked at them all. "Do you honestly think that I wanted to sit on that throne and be the one being pumped out for magic for the rest of the worlds to use?" I glared at them. "There was a reason why my grandfather didn't want anyone to sit on that throne until the magic had been spread out throughout the lands. He didn't want me to be a puppet for every sorcerer or sorceress, fairy, witch, demon, warlocks... He wanted me to rule this land without fearing that my father would try his dirty tricks."
"Princess Evelyn, you cannot go around stating that you are going to murder someone!" Queen stated. I gave her the look of are you kidding me.
"We are at war? If there was no casualty on either side, then how is it possible?" I asked as I looked at her. "You do see my sister's face there, don't you? I will do anything to keep her safe. If murdering that man to do so, then I will gladly do so. With or without you help."
"But you came here for help..."
"Do you think that you are the only one who can lead an army? Those soldiers out there, what have you been telling them each time they bring back people who are wounded, killed even? What do you tell the families who lost their loved ones? 'I am sorry for your lost, but in this war, there is lost, and we all grieve for those poor souls.' I am not going to send out children, the children chose to fight, but that doesn't mean that I would be the one who will allow those children to fight."
"But they signed up, and there are no others who are standing up against your father, Princess Evelyn. We will get your family back--"
"When? When I lose them? You know very well that there isn't a magic in their blood. Not like mine. You think that I will sit around--"
"Princess Evelyn, please, wait. You are going to need to calm down. We will find a way to keep everyone safe and defeat your father," Darragon stated. I looked at him.
"When? When I must bury the royal family of Enchancia? When I must give out that pathetic speech to the people of Enchanchia? Or what about Prince Hugo's family or Princess Clio? They are with them. I am not going to stand around and wait for the death to make an outcome for the kingdoms," I said as I looked at them. Cedric looked like he wanted to chime in but remained silent throughout the yelling match. Goodwyn and Winfred looked like they were lost in thought. And Cordelia and Castila were sitting at the table, trying to figure out what to do. "I lost my mother and sister because of that man; I don't want to lose them again. I am tired, and I am tired of you telling me that I shouldn't fight for my family."
"Then allow my sword be your guide, Princess Evelyn," Darragon said, as he pulled out his sword and placed it on the table. "Your grandfather was my king, and you are my princess. I will help you--"
"Darragon, if you do this, then you will be considered as a traitor--" Queen said.
"A traitor? He is the one who is helping his ruling family. If anything, I am the head of this whole world, but you all act as if I don't hold the future in this world. Darragon, take me to the hidden library," I said. "You might want to follow me. To the hidden library, there are spells that might help us, but it is probably not best to stay here with them." With that Darragon left, with the rest of us following.
We had arrived at the hidden library. I had watched the group wandered around the library. Cedric had kept his eyes on me as I could feel his gaze. I walked over to the staircase that allowed me up to the second level of the library. I looked for a black book, that was when I felt a chill. Something that I had never thought that I would feel again. I looked over and watched in horror as the man who I once called father, standing in the room with the royal family. And the family of sorcerers. Nowhere in sight was Darragon.
"What did you do?" I asked, threatening.
"I honest don't know what you mean, my child," the man said. The Royal family was unconscious. Sofia was bleeding. My blood ran cold. I didn't know what else to do. I screamed, as I threw spells left to right at the man, but he deflected them all. "Oh are you talking about Darragon?" he asked as he took the form of Darragon. "It was a shame really, you believed that he was a good man, but really he was me, just like your grandfather, speaking to you... It was all a trick... You fell for all of them. And I took the one thing that made you powerful. Clara, why must we go through with this each time."
There was the name again, the name from my dream. "Clara? Who was she?"
"She was you, my child, and now you will share her fate. Death will always separate you from Darrgon's real reincarnation." The words left his mouth as an icy beam went towards the Royal Sorcerer. Something inside of me screamed for everything to stop, but the icy beam went and hit Cedric square in the chest. He collapsed. "Now you will know the pain of losing everything." He said as he left Sofia, Mom, Dad, Clio, Hugo, Amber and James, as well as the Royal Sorcerer's family.
I felt everything inside of my scream out. I had created this mess, made it worse and now, everyone was paying the price for this. I collapsed to the ground. I couldn't breathe, I felt as though I threw everything in everyone's face. I wasn't ready for anything. Cordelia was the first to walk over to me. I backed away from her, but she continued to move closer to me. Now Cedric had paid the price of everything had happened, along with Sofia, Hugo, Clio, Mom, Dad, James and Amber.
"Princess, look, Prince James and King Roland is waking up," I heard a voice say after a few moments of silence. I looked over and saw that Goodwyn was right. I let a sigh of relieve escape, but I didn't move from my place in the library.
"Ugh," I heard James say. "Why does my head hurt?"
"Mirada? Sofia!"
"Where are we?"
"You are in the Kingdom of Mythica," Queen said. I looked over to her. "Princess Evelyn, you have every right to be angry with us. But we don't have any other choice, you must listen to us--"
"You knew that he wasn't really Darragon?" I blurted out.
"I had an inkling on that for a while now," The King stated.
"And you didn't bother to let her know that?" Winfred asked, pointing her wand at the woman.
"And risk her falling into the hands of evil?" The Queen asked.
"Do you really think so lowly of me?" I asked, "Do you really think that I was a monster, just like him?" My voice rose in anger. I didn't know what to do next, but I am pretty sure that everyone was getting nervous based on their feelings. "I--I--"
"That is enough, Evelyn, are you alright?" Dad asked.
"I more worried about everyone else that is on the ground," I stated. "I don't know what that man did to Cedric, or really to any of you." My hands were shaking again. I feared this. I was just scared.
"Come, I'll get you all a room, where you will be safe. A protection charm will be placed around all of you," The Queen said. I didn't know if I should trust them, but we did come here asking for help, and I might have damaged everything now, due to my ignorance.
"I am so sorry," I kept repeating every so often. Dad held me close to him, almost hugging me. I honest don't know how I broke. Maybe it was because I saw Sofia's face when the blood keys were created. Or maybe I just broke when my friend Darragon was that monster of a father.
"Evelyn, you are one of the most talent healers here," the Queen stated. "You are one of the strongest people that I know personally. If you don't break through this, that man will win, and your family and friends will be gone--" the queen lifted my face to look at her, "--if you don't break the cycle that Clara and Darragon had faced long ago, then what hope do we have now in making sure that this world be safe. There will be only darkness the world... Everything that we care for, will be gone."
"Nightengales will forever be sadden," the King stated.
"Nightengales?" James asked.
"They are special birds that would sing at night. When the Moon is full, they sing during the times of peace in this kingdom. They--" I started.
"They are also the only ones who can withstand the darkness in the land. Everything here will affect your realm," The King continued.
"The Magic here, is what fuels witches, wizards, sorceress, sorcerers, Fairies their magical talents," I said. "Dark Magic will be the only things left to fuel everything. That is what my Father will bring. That is how you will lose your kingdoms. It will not just be Enchancia that will no longer be controlled, but all the kingdoms will be in trouble. Chaos and roots will be brought forth. No nightengale would sing for generations after that."
"With darkness comes so much more from this world... It will be the end of everything," The queen said. "Here is the room. There should be a Healer coming to assist Princess Evelyn." I sighed. It was one of the infirmaries. I sighed as I looked at the room and then back at the unconscious people.
"I think I am going to need more than one Healer to help me... Considering I don't know what he had done to everyone," I stated.
That night was going to be even longer that I had wanted. Four Healers arrived and helped me figure out what that man had done to Sofia and the rest of the Royal members. Cedric was still unconscious, alive though. But I wasn't quite sure how to break the spell. The Healers had left once the Royal Family was in the clear, and everyone had woken up. Cedric's family had all fallen asleep beside Cedric as I looked out of the window into the night sky. People could see the fire burning in the center square as silence had filled the room.
