The group spent the next week traveling through Oregon and into Idaho, grateful that they didn't have to pass through Washington and go through Seattle again. None of them were even sure they'd be able to make it through Seattle a second time if it came down to it.

"Hey. Looking through this map we may have to pass through Wyoming." Abby tells Ellie, who closed her eyes and breathed deeply.

"It's okay. I know all the patrol routes. I know how to avoid Jackson." She explains, walking up ahead of them again.

That was the end of that conversation and they were all silent for the next couple weeks until they got into Wyoming.

"I bet it's strange for you to be back." Abby commented as they walked down the road.

"Yeah. I never thought I'd be back here honestly."

"Well you take the lead. You know how to avoid Jackson."

"We just need to keep heading East. We'll be past Jackson and then we can find somewhere to sleep for the night."

"But you want to keep walking." Lev says, looking at Ellie curiously.

Ellie didn't say anything, knowing Lev was right. All she wanted was to be as far away from Jackson as possible. The further the better.

"Do you miss it?" Abby asks as they pass a sign telling them they were ten miles from Jackson.

"No. Not one bit." Ellie lied. She knew she missed it. She missed Dina and JJ even though she knew their relationship was over, if she had gone back she had hoped they'd still be best friends. She missed Tommy and Maria. Ellie knew if she went back she'd have to explain to Tommy that she let Abby live and she wasn't planning on doing that at all.

"What about you guys? Do you miss the WLF or the...Seraphites?" She asks as they start walking uphill.

"No." Abby and Lev answered honestly but abruptly.

Abby hated most members of the WLF more than she had hated Ellie and when all her friends were dead and Isaac had wanted to kill Lev, that had been the final straw. Lev on the other hand had never been a fan of how the Seraphites did things. They refused to call him by his new name and kept calling him Lily and tried to kill him and Yara when the two left. He would never go back, especially now that his mother and sister were both dead. The three came up the crest of the hill towards the end of the path where they could see the small town of Jackson.

"You know, you can go back if_"

"No." Ellie says, cutting her off as she went to walk into the woods, "let's go." She adds as she walks down the path to show them how to avoid the patrols. She led them around for what seemed like ages, eventually coming to a cabin in a clearing.

"We can rest here for the night." Abby says, opening the door of the cabin and making sure it was clear before ushering Lev and Ellie inside. Abby was glad that they hadn't run into any patrols, knowing they would kill her to get their revenge for Joel without a second thought.

"Alright let's get some rest. I want to try and make it into Nebraska in the next few days." She says as Ellie inspected the fireplace before going to leave to find some firewood while Abby went to look for matches. Abby looked through several drawers in the kitchen before she found a coin in the drawer by the stove with some matches.

"Hey, North Dakota." She says to herself, smiling at the memories she had with her dad when they would exchange coins if the other didn't have them yet.

"You collect them?" Ellie asks from the entryway having finally come back with some wood.

"Yeah. It was me and my dad's thing and if one of us didn't have the coin already, we'd give it to the other to keep."

"I collect comics and trading cards. I like the Savage Starlight comics and whenever Joel was away, he'd find one and give it to me." She says as Abby offered her the matches and she turned to start the fire.

"Did you know? That Joel took you out of the hospital?" Abby asks, sitting beside Ellie.

"No I didn't. He told me that my immunity meant nothing and that they had dozens of immune people. I finally found out when I went back a few years later just wanting answers. I was so angry at him for how selfish he had been when he did it because he loved me. I guess he didn't want to lose another daughter and looking back I would probably do the same," She explains, staring into the fire, "I didn't talk to him for another year after that unless I had to and when I was finally ready to try and forgive him, he died." She adds, her voice cracking.

"I'm sorry. I thought getting revenge would help me, but it didn't," Abby says, looking down and finally noticing the chemical burn concealed by the tattoo, "how'd you get bit?"

"I was in the mall with a friend and we were running from infected and one jumped me. We both got bitten and she told me we had two options. Kill ourselves or wait it out and lose our minds together. My friend died but nothing happened to me, so I went to Marlene_" She explains, Abby cutting her off.

"You knew Marlene too?"

Ellie nodded, "Yeah she knew my mom and took care of me. She almost killed me but when I explained the story to her she found Joel and a woman named Tess to bring me outside the city."

Abby nodded as she listened to the other girl talk, finding that the two girls weren't all that different after all. They both had gotten hurt and lost people that were important to them.

"What happened to Marlene? When Joel brought me out of the hospital?"

Abby sighed, "we found her dead in the garage."

Ellie let out a shaky breath, sad that what she had feared to be true.

"I'm sorry. You probably could have gone without knowing that."

"I figured he killed her too. Part of me was just hoping I was wrong."

Abby nodded as Ellie took a deep breath, groaning at the pain in her ribs"I never did thank you for saving me and leading that shambler away."

Ellie didn't say anything as she laid on her good side and went to sleep. She just wanted the conversation to be over.
