It was cloudy that morning when Aaron and Erica got their old ship ready to go meet Queen Tritana. Aaron was excited to see his mother after 12 years, but wished it was under better circumstances. Once they were at the border, Queen Tritana rose from the ocean to speak with them.
"Oh Mom. I'm so worried," Aaron said. Melodious didn't know the ocean and its dangers like he did. He could be so scared and confused all by himself.
"Everything's going to be alright, Aaron," Queen Tritana assured her youngest son, "We have search parties scouring the ocean. I'm going to join them myself."
Aaron couldn't help but worry though, especially with Morgan out there.
"Aaron," Erica spoke up," maybe you should go with her."
"But Erica-"
"I need to stay here and lead the search on land. But you know these waters," she said, placing a hand on his cheek, "And you know our son."
"It may be dangerous," Tritana warned.
The more Aaron thought about it though, the more he knew he had to. And if he was the one who found Melodious, he would have an easier time telling him the truth.
"Erica's right, Mom," he said, "I should've known I couldn't keep Melodious from the sea. It's a part of him. And a part of me too."
He was his father's son after all. Melodious was so much like Aaron, he should have seen this coming.
Queen Tritana knew if anyone could find her grandson, it was Aaron. The trident glowed golden as she got ready to transform him once again. Before they did this, Aaron turned to Erica and hugged her. This would be the first time they would be apart for so long. They had never left each others side since they were married. But it wouldn't be forever. Just until they found Melodious.
"Bring him home," Erica said.
They parted and Aaron climbed up the side of the ship where he raised his arms. He was ready.
Queen Tritana fired a golden blast at him and raised him in the air, undoing the spell that turned him human.
Aaron could feel himself changing. His slicked back hair became wild again, his shirt and vest disappearing to reveal his purple shell necklace around his neck, and his two legs turning back into a sparking green tail fin.
Erica watched the whole thing and was mesmerized as she felt herself falling in love with him all over again.
When the transformation was over, Aaron dove into the ocean. He was a merman again!.
At that moment, Melodious was jumping in and out of the water. This was the best day of his entire life!
"What a totally cool feeling!" he said to himself.
He was swimming on his back when he accidently bumped into a seal mother with her babies.
"Oh. Excuse me. I'm so sorry, ma'am," he apologized. Now might be a good time to learn how to swim with his new tail. After a few tries, he got the hang of it.
It was incredible! For a moment, all of him was alive and at home in the sea! He's swirling and twirling, so graceful and grand. Not stubbing his toes or getting stuck in the sand. This was more than his thoughts ever thought it could be. Everything was newer and brighter and bluer and truer to life than before. His fingers were wrinkly, but he didn't care. It was worth it! All the dreams he'd been dreaming were real. He wished his father could understand that the sea was Melodious' true calling. But at that moment, for just a moment, he belonged.
When he was done having fun, Melodious swam back to Morgan's undersea lair and gave him a hug.
"Oh thank you! Thank you so much!" he thanked. Because of Morgan, his greatest dream and wish had finally come true. Suddenly, Melodious heard sniffling and saw Morgan and Undertow crying. "What's the matter?"
"Oh, I knew this would happen! One taste and you're hooked! Oh, Undertow, I'm such a failure!" he sobbed, blowing into a tissue, "Oh, my boy, there wasn't enough potion for this to be a forever spell."
At that instant, Melodious' heart sank like a stone. This meant he would be human again. He couldn't go back! He couldn't go back to that life! Everyone would make fun of him again and his parents would probably take extreme measures to make sure he never set a toe in the ocean again! Even if he explained this wonderful experience to them, he believed they still wouldn't understand!
"Please. I-I don't want to go back to being an ordinary boy," he pleaded, "Isn't there some way I can stay a merman?"
"Oh I'm afraid there's absolutely no way!...Well there is one way," Morgan mentioned, "No! What am I thinking? It's far too dangerous!"
"What? What's too dangerous?" Melodious asked. If he really could stay a merman, he didn't care what he had to do, which Morgan knew would happen.
"Well, I could make the spell last longer if I had my magic trident," he lied, "Oh but it was stolen years ago by a deranged maniac and there's no one to get it back for me!"
"Maybe I could get it back for you."
"You would do that for me?"
"If I do, would you make me a merman...forever?"
"Even longer if that's what your heart desires."
Morgan went to a shelf and pulled out a stone tablet carved into a map. It had their current location, a path that led to an X with "Atlantica" marked under it. This got Melodious' attention.
"Atlantica? You mean it's not just an old fish tale?" he asked excitedly.
"Why of course it exists," Morgan said, "Whoever told you otherwise?"
"My...father."
"Well, I'm sure he didn't mean to be cruel and deceitful."
This was probably another thing Dad was hiding from Melodious. He probably knew all along Atlantica did exist and kept it a secret. Whatever the reason, Melodious didn't care. He would go to Atlantica and get the trident back to Morgan!
As he swam away, Morgan gave an evil knowing smile. Tricking this boy was way too easy.
